A field-tested classic that never disappoints, the Suspension is the benchmark tool of convenience and durability. The easily accessed butterfly design features spring-loaded pliers and a lightweight frame for long days and tired hands. With 12 other tools, you're always ready.
Inspired by the bridges of Gerber’s hometown in Portland, Oregon, the Suspension is an open frame multitool with spring-loaded pliers, our SAF.T.PLUS™ locking system, a fine-edge knife, serrated knife, rough cut saw and more. Housed in a ballistic nylon sheath, it’s a lightweight down-and-dirty workhorse.
Gave one Gerber as a Christmas present to my brother-in-law so I thought I'd buy myself one and test it out I've tried out the saw and the scissors and knife blade I had to sharpen up the Phillips screwdriver looks a little weird to really actually work. but so far I like the knife
Bought this multi tool as a replacement I had owned for 25 years. It has performed as I expected, I did replace the sheath with a genuine leather belt holder but the tool itself has been very reliable. Well pleased with my purchase
Simply put, it's a tool i keep with me all the time for those 'just in case' situations. While i am pleased with the sharpness and durability of the cutting blades as well as the pliers themselves, there are two drawbacks that i have encountered.
the first is that the Phillips head driver is too brittle. i used it to assemble a BBQ and while trying to tighten a screw to an acceptable point, the driver sheared. The Velcro on the pouch is also of poor quality.
Okay, the Gerber Suspension is one of the best selling multi-tool for good reason. Simply put, it's rugged, reliable and affordable. Oh, and the tool set is pretty much spot on! Gerber, please keep this tool in the line-up.
Made in China. Says it all, really.
On the plus side, it's cheap, reasonably solid and the locking mechanism works fairly well.
On the other hand, cutting edges are very dull and ground at uneven angles. On the can opener they do not even meet in the middle, making it completely useless for actually opening cans!
The screwdriver blades are of decent length, but seem somewhat flimsy. As with the cutting edges, they are very sloppily machined. The less said about the cross driver, the better. It is a wholly cast bit that fits no Philips-type screw ever produced on planet Earth.
Unless you find one in a bargain bin for a tenner or so and have the equipment to grind proper edges to the knife, screwdrivers and can opener you really are better off springing for a proper U.S. or European made multitool. This really, literally, does not cut it.
The multi-too, itself is amazing although the sheath is of very poor quality. I myself went and bought a Craftsmen multi-tool specifically to use its sheath for the Gerber as it was of much better quality. I would recommend doing this for anyone wanting this knife for long-term use.
I really like this tool yes there can be some upgrades but I believe that comes with all tools so with that said I've had for about a year now and still works at a high quality and I'm not not just using it for the bottle opener I put it through some heavy duty task still holding up good job !
I have had this multitool for several years. It has been a great tool. I have been carrying this tool since I got it. I had to recently stop carrying it due to changes in my work's security policy because of a shooting at our of our buildings. When to use my scissors recently and found the wire spring had snapped. Still love the multitool. Would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a versatile multitool.
I’ve had this tool for a few years now, but it didn’t get a true test until last Summer. I joined a Student Conservation Association Backcountry crew and chose this as my primary knife to maintain my gear and perform camp tasks. Considering the positives, I was able to get the straight blade razor sharp before leaving, and it returned just as sharp a month later. Similarly, the serrated edge, screwdrivers, scissors, and spring-loaded pliers performed perfectly. I also really like the locking mechanism. If you slide down the lock on both sides, it is very easy and secure. A few issues became evident as well. As others have mentioned, the velcro wears out fast and fails to hold the tool. I was able to fix this by sewing a strap to the sheath and a button to the flap, so that the button tucks under the strap and holds the flap down. The rest of the sheath performed well and I liked the different mounting options. Other problems came up when I tried to disassemble the tool for cleaning. I managed to strip all of the screws, using the proper bit. I was still able to cycle enough oil through to clean it, and linseed oil and a rag worked in the field. It is important to keep this tool oiled, as I found its prone to rusting if neglected. The last issue is the saw, which proved too small to actually be useful. Overall, the tool fulfilled all of my needs, and will continue being my outdoor go-to.
You get what u pay for i guess. Got as stocking stuffer, pliers broke w in a week. Apparently all thoes kid toy boxes & double A batteries compartments 2 much 2 handle. Never again. Like the design, tools/knife on outside, spring on pliers & sharpness of blades. Dislikes- bulkyness & cheaply made. Never again.
Opened the package and the head of the bolt holding the plier-head fell out. Brand new, and it was broken before it even could do anything. Real quality there
I've had this tool for about 5 years. Absolutely love it. It has been one of the most used tools that I own. I've gone threw a couple cases that they warrantied and got one that has lasted a couple years. I've used my multi tool on fire and EMS scenes and it has never let me down. I never leave home without it. Proud to own one!
I keep the Sensation in my Mustang for light jobs. I have a Leatherman Wave that I use when heavier tool is needed. The Sensation is Ok for routine small work. Not the Quality of the Leatherman but only a small percentage of the cost. Works in a pinch.
My needle nose pliers broke and not just any normal breakage, half the plier broke off and I consider myself average not a Hercules kinda guy lol. The worst part is I spent over $100 and home depot won't replace them!! Can u believe that?
Very good for what I bought it for, but the quality of the tools on it feel cheap. Like not even stainless steel or any metal-like, but The pliers look a bit higher quality. The sheath is poorly made too. Broke it the day I got it.
I’ve had this multi-tool for about three years now. Love it! But the sheath has seen better days. The Velcro stopped working, I stitched on another soft side it’s holding up. The rest of the sheath is now starting to fall apart due to wear and rubbing against things. Want to buy another but looking at a different style for the next go around. Would be nice to have this same one but with a bit set, and in Black!
My experience with this tools is that the tool is amazing. The case that comes with it obviously didn't use Velco brand velcro, the soft side became a non working part in only a few months use and now I cannot carry it around everyday like I want to.
As with everyone else, I love the tool. My sheath began falling apart after a couple of weeks and now the velcro wont hold. it barely held before when I would wear the sheath upright. I won't even call it velcro now. come on Gerber, you are better than this
Had the suspension for 5 years. One day I went I grab it out of the sheath, while on duty, and it was gone. The velcro, pretty much non existent. I liked the tool a lot and for the price, it’s great. Bought another one at Lowe’s while visiting Grand Forks back in July (gray handle), and last week found they were on sale at Home Depot. Noticed the handles are now black, and am I crazy but is the velcro slightly more reinforced? Guess I’ll find out. If I lose these ones - it’s off to the competition.
I really like the tool itself. It gets plenty of use daily. My one problome with it is the sheath. Like most of the reviewers I agree it is useless. Lost a couple of these due to the velcro becoming useless to keep it closed. I honestly can't find any real options for after market. I'm very happy with the tool itself. Just wish they would take more pride in the sheath they include or for the very least offer a better one as an option or aftermarket. The only thing preventing a 5 star is the sheath. Come on Gerber.
The Suspension was given to me as a gift and so far I like it! I use it mostly for fishing and it works well except the sheath is worthless! If you have it on your belt and catch on anything the least bit it tears! It would be nice if you could find a replacement sheath!
No problems with the tool itself, but as stated previously, repeatedly, the sheath fell apart within a few months. threw it in the trash and carry it in my pocket which is a hassle in itself. have not yet found an adequate replacement.
Went to Walmart to buy a economical replacement for my leatherman. I found the Suspension and it felt really good in my hand. I have carpal tunnel and I use my pliers many times everyday. I really liked this tool for about a week then the poor quality issues started to show themselves. The first problem was the sheath. The strap was too low and the tool felt weird on my belt. Then the velcro failed and the tool would fall out regularly. The phillips screw driver broke first time I used it. Then the plier retention spring bent. I really liked this tool and was hoping it would perform well. It didn't. I guess its back to the leatherman.
It’s a good tool, but the sheath is pathetic. I carried this product on duty for about 2 weeks and the nylon belt loop began to tear. Quality leather sheaths for this model are hard to find, and there is a MUCH better selection for Leatherman products. Gerber went cheap on the sheath and probably lost me as a future customer, and all the firefighters I know. Step up your game Gerber.
The knife is ok.
Don't like the slides used to close the tool.
The Nylon Sheath Velcro is worthless!
Lost my knife because the sheath will not stay closed due to the lousy Velcro being used !
Very disappointed that Gerber would use that bad of a product
Tool works well for it's intended purpose. I like the tool. Cross driver is not good for turning screws if they require any torque, as the cross will bend. Sheath that comes with the multi-tool started tearing within a month on the belt loops and the Velcro became unusable after about 2 months of use.
I love it ive had for bout 4 years now and still as good as the first day only draw back is i have big hands and getting to some of the inner tools i need i have to open up everything on the side to get the one i want but i use everything on it daily i lost the sheath and carry it in my pocket but am looking at getting a another one for my son
The Gerber Suspension Is a very good multi-tool. It has a very large grip but is still comfortable in my hand.
The sheath is coming apart at the seams though. Any aftermarket sheaths of any quality cost more than the tool so I will not be carrying it much longer.
I asked for this for christmas and was happy to find it under the christmas tree. I’ve used it a ton at work ( Air Force) ; everything from helping zero my rifle to general maintnace. I loved it so much I went out and bought another so one would be for my duty gear the other to rock after work! All in all great tool; That being said Gerber please come up with a better sheath maybe a clip button! I have not had any problems with mine but understand others have. There is always room for improvment !
Got this tool for Christmas and after just a couple months of using it, the soft side of the Velcro on the sheath was almost completely useless. I had to trim it with scissors to even make it partially functional. Ditch the crappy sheath as soon as you can.
The Phillips Screwdriver also has a strong tendency to strip screws.
This is an absolutely brilliant tool only let down by the Velcro on the sheath which unfortunately meant whilst participating in Op Dawes in Tathra NSW Australia with Team Rubicon it was lost. A press stud would be more secure. That said I will be buying a replacement.
I enjoy the tool, but the sheath is horrible. Getting in and out vehicle the sheath is falling apart should be leather.
I just received this item as a birthday gift. I am super impressed with the ease of operation of the tool. I have printed out the write-up on it. I shall carry it daily. What a marvelous tool.
Great tool, I am using it more than 3 months every day in multiple heavy duty tasks and still like new. Suspension great help.I totally recommend.
Worse design for getting tools out. Chipped nails but if you have no nails you cant get them out. Returning it I will spend more but worth it for ease of use. Switching to leatherman.
I bought this tool for myself to use at the fire dept, and my part time job. The tool is great ,but like multiple people have stated the velcro on the sheath is horrible. Come on Gerber your a well known product but got a lot to fix.
This multi tool sucks. Used the pliers only one time and the spring loaded system doesn't work anymore.
I've had a Gerber Suspension for the last 5+ years and have to say that it is a great multi-tool. I haven't damaged any of the tools/blades or even felt the need to replace it with something different. It is a great tool for the price. The only downside is that it doesn't have a file and I often need a file...
Good general purpose multi tool. For the money you get a lot and ergonomically it feels really good in the hand. I love the spring load. For those who want something for heavier duty use, Gerber makes better quality multi tools but they will cost you twice as much. I've had mine for 10 yrs and it's held up.
I love this multitool. It's small and lightweight enough to carry with me all the time, and it has just the right tools to be useful when I need it. I have bigger multitools, but I find that I don't use them as much. The suspension is the right mix of durability, utility, tool selection and size for everyday use. And what good is a multitool you don't have with you?
Just bought one for a product review project, the locks feel weird to use, chipped nails in a painful way, would be better if it had actual sliders or a more tactile switch. Material feels great, it felt odd to get the tools out at first but feels natural now.
I just got this tool and it's perfect without costing so dang much. HUGE value.
Spring loaded. Killer locking mechanism. Tight construction.
The can opener could be sharper but it's still awesome.
I really shouldn't be this excited about a multi-tool but I am. My wife wanted to take it from me. I said no.
While on a wildland fire I had to cut through some barbed wire fence. Went to cut and the support for the wing fractured. Tool was totally worthless, had to ask another firefighter for his wire cutters a Leatherman none the less.
I like the general design of this tool ,but the metal used on the tools is trash. The teeth in the pliers have been almost completely flattened out. And I bent my large Flathead into a slight cork screw on a small screw. I got a Leatherman surge a while back and it makes the suspension look comical. I know the surge costs substantially more than the Gerber, however if you are looking for something that can actually withstand harsh use on a regular basis then it is worth the higher cost
It is my favorite Multi tool ever I have about 12 multi tools and this is my 13th multi tool it is my favorite multi tool because it has so many attachments and it's so easy to use it's so light compared all the other ones because it's sort of skeletonized and then it also has a really cool name so the guys at Gerber really know what they're doing because I got the small title and immediately I fell in love with this one. need to get one of these ASAP if you're looking for a multi tool.
Great tool, great price.
Heres a few tips for some of you geniuses:
Dont put the tool in the sheath backwards. there's a fat end and a skinny end...figure it out.
Dont use a multi-tool when a tool designed for one purpose is required for the job.
My goodness, if youre working on something more substantial get a tool box and use real tools! A multi-tool is just a handy thing for a man to carry for quick easy jobs when out and about. If you have to put so much force on it that it breaks, you're an idiot and should have used a wrench or a screwdriver.
Having said that the sheath does suck.
Carried this tool for quite a while on the factory floor, and it has proven useful. I like that the sheath is no fuss in and out - it holds it's shape while the tool is removed so you're not fighting a collapsed nylon pouch to get it back in.
Tools have been effective, though the tiny plain-edge blade is tough to sharpen... you'll have this issue on most multi-tools.
What I really like, and need in a multi-tool, is the small flat blade screwdriver. I find this the perfect size for getting into terminal strip screw heads. Bites nicely. The philips has been equally handy - I find it a good size for many fasteners I encounter.
Pliers are okay, you definitely can't put much lateral stress (for instance using as an impromptu spanner wrench) without them flexing, but they've held up, so I can't complain. The grooved portion of the pliers works well on socket-cap screws.
Overall a very nice set - only wish it were less chunky and could shed some weight, but it's a compromise that's worth it.
Not a bother on this multi tool. Had it for two years and never left my belt. Went through all kinds of weather and abuse and never failed to work. Sheath let me down though. Like I said I had it for two years but somewhere along a hike the tool fell out of the sheath because of the Velcro. Will definitely buy again along with a third party steel button leather sheath
Bought one for my daughter and one for myself. Loved it at first - then on several uses of the phillips head, it was obvious that it was undersized for general purpose use. I hate it, but I have to pull out my old 'non-locking' weatherman, which has a much better fitting phillips head screwdriver tool. In addition, the canvas case which secures to your belt is completely ineffective. I wish I could buy a leather case, but one is not available. I end up just carrying it around, frustrated that I can't have it on my belt.
This tool hasn't failed me yet. The sheath has. I had to stop carrying it with me for a while until I replaced the sheath, that was a bummer. Every tool I need is on here, and, a friend thought the thing must've cost over a hundred bucks! Wow, it's like de'ja vu with something else Gerber made that I bought and thought it was perfect until the belt clip ruined the whole knife. Oh, well.
Bought one to use on worksites, but my 12 year old daughter grabbed it to pull a nail out of the wall and one of the pliers snapped at the teeth. BEFORE I could even use it on site. I didn't even bother with any guarantee. Threw it away, ain't bought Gerber since.
Nice tool but the sheath sucks, the sheath is breaking down and falling apart after 4 months. Would be a 5 star review other then the sheath.
Great tool, but sheath not so good. Click the link to see how I made my own DIY sheath. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10154371652736406&set=p.10154371652736406&type=3&theater
Im a fireman and this tool really helps in work to cut and fix actually anything even to open crashed cars windows, but that litlle bag where it comes inside really sucks... It doesnt close anymore maybe mug water fire blod, and all that stuff screwed it, but as the tool the bag should be atrong enough... Are there bags for sale????
The tool has held up so far (4months goingstrong)the blade is some kind of a scandy grind extremely sharp! The scissors are also sharp. Sharp enough to cut hair. Saw is awesome! Academy has it for 24$ (us) at this price best budget multitool Out there
this is make 2nd tool, i use it a lot being in the military but the sheath stinks. i lost my first tool in the field do to the velcro not holding, as of now i am looking for a better sheath to carry it in
I find this is a great tool at a more than fair price! I got mine for $19.99 at home depot!
I just wanted to write this review to try and help NL, the author of the last post at the time I wrote this who is having trouble getting the tool in and out of the, (I'll agree, poorly made), sheath that the suspension comes with. I suggest you try flipping the tool around when putting it in! (Narrow end in first) I've had no problems at all getting it in or out of its sheath, and have done it multiple times without needing to look at it! Hope this helps! Best of luck...
I carry this daily at work and have had no complaints what so ever. I try not to use it for tasks that I know I should not though. I do agree original sheath was poorly made. Gerber support has been more than helpful though, and replaced sheath with new model that is way better built. I have Leatherman brand multi-tools as well, but choose to carry the Gerber Suspension daily at work due too price point makes it more "expendable".
Gerber will not respond to warranty claims. The sheaths are total garbage. Within a week or two, the velcro on the sheath will stop sticking to keep the tool safely in place. You go to the warranty page, where they supposedly guarantee their sheaths, fill out all the necessary information and....... crickets! Nothing! Stick with Leatherman. Their products are superior and they stand behind them.
Overall I think the Gerber tools are fabulous, I had an MP400 for years at sea ... the best. However this model very short time the butterfly system is not so robust, using the pliers will break its support ... today the butterfly has an unusable wing
In general this is a very practical product and holds up well. I did break the large flat head opening my chainsaw's oil cap. This is something I would normally do with my bare hands but it broke the tool. Warranty will cover but I have to pay to get it there. Also, the contour of this tool makes it really difficult to get in and out of the sheath.
Love this tool have had it for years now, every thing still works and I use it everyday!
Only down side is the pouch it comes with first the Velcro crapped out then the pouch ripped. Had to get a pouch made buy a shoe maker.
I love this tool and would tell anyone I know to buy one!
I have had a leatherman for the last 20 years. It finally gave up in December so I replaced it with this knife. I liked the features it came with and especially the sheath that can be put sideways on your belt. I have been using it for about 3 weeks and already the velcro on the sheath has stopped sticking. I emailed about this 4 days ago and never got a response. I would not recommend this knife to anyone simply for the fact that it is too easy to lose.
Was using it to cut wire and a part broke off as i squeezed. Not a bad multi tool jist wont buy again as ot doesnt pass the average joes squeeze.
Great tool but, puts a lot of pressure on my hands when i try to open the knifes and to release the lock.
The tool was great but the sheath is horrible. Velcro closure did not hold up and I lost my tool after a month.
Great tool overall, does what it's built for and then some. There are a few downsides though, the tool lock spring is way to stiff and the scissor doesn't seat properly sometimes. But it's still excellent.
Overall in using the tool as an EMT it is great and works for everything I need. My only complaint that garners 4 stars instead of 5 is that the case is very cheap. I would rather have a pocket clip over the case it came with.
Well, tool is great new. Scissors will last you a week then they will not spring back correctly. Screw driver head will bend and a dozen times so grind to back into shape is the ONLY option as returning products is on the consumer. The saw, knife blades, and the wire cutters are boss. Cheap product.
Was happy when this line became issued equipment in our gear for deployment to Afghanistan in 2009. It went missing a few months ago and finally replaced it and enjoy each part I use at work.
This tool feels well built. I have been rough as hell with it. The pliers are fantastic. Blades were not sharp out of box. Scissors are garbage. And my blades do not lock anymore. Lucky I figured it out the easy way, and not by chopping my fingers up. I'm going leatherman.
Great tool - love the locking blades - would love it more if it had a magnifying glass (hint hint) - Highly recommended
Great little tool, use it all the time. Spring pliers are very nice, tool feels very nice in my hands. Very slick, very functional. Only problem is the sheathe's velcro, tool fell out twice within two months, fortunately recovered it both times. Bought a length of velcro strip at local hardware store and had my girlfriend sew it to replace the one it comes with. No problems since.
I've owned my Suspension for a long time now. So long in fact that I notice that NOW it Doesn't come with the 10 piece bit driver set. Anyhow, I love my Gerbers!
Pretty decent tool. Now to clarify I don't use this heavily as others do, so keep that in mind. I'm satisfied with this multi-tool. I didn't really use the screwdrivers that much so I can't really comment on their quality, as others seem to have issue with them. I keep this tool in my room and use it often when I need something done quickly without having to root around the tool box. The straight blade knife is a bit dull. The scissors have an issue if you aren't careful with them. Whenever you go to straighten them before putting them away be sure you are rotating them right way. I had a few instances in which I turned the arm the wrong way and the arm rotated past the spring pin that gives the knife its pressure to cut. It is a pain the ass to get it back to the proper position because in the opposite direction is where the other are in fastened to the handle. So you need to get something small and tough to pull the arm up and over the spring pin to rotate it back. The switches for the locks can be a bit irritating to your fingers as you need to push with your fingernail mostly and if you have short nails they may bite in causing some discomfort. Other than that and the blades not being super sharp and having retention it is a good tool. Again, I don't use it in harsh condition or use it abusively so I can't comment on hard use, but for a handy tool and something to carry on hikes just in case, I think it works well. I'm also happy that it didn't have Bear Grylls name plastered all over it, otherwise I wouldn't have bough it. I think everyone who knows your product knows what a big act/phony he is.
I agree with Schwab. Knife is fine, Sheath Velcro is bad. I went to a hardware store and bought a snap kit for $5.00 and installed it with good results.
Love this tool, second one i buy in 7 years. First one lasted about 3 years til i broke 1 of pliers tooth, second has lasted as long unfortunately just broke the philips head tip.
I designed a leather holster since the original is cheap and doesnt last. Otherwise id give 5 stars.
Awesome tool, but agree that provided sheath/pouch is terrible, O know Gerber Quality control can do better than that.
Love this tool, always comes in handy, so far sheath is still in perfect condition. Hasn't come apart yet. Recommend this multi tool to anyone and everyone
LOVE this tool, however as others have mentioned the velcro is pretty weak after a few months. I use it nearly daily, and just today I went to grab it after having it this morning, and it was gone! >:| Not sure if I will replace it, as it's actually my second - the spring wore out on my first after years of use.
Great tool. I use it for everything. I'm looking for a new sheath because the Velcro on it is worst ever. I've only had it for a month now
Crappy case I would live to give this a better review but I've only owned mine since January it's April and I lost my tool in a feild in Kane county. The Velcro started to fail within 1 week of owing the tool. Huge pos Case if you don't buy this because of the case then gerber should know why.
Great tool. Comes in handy when you need it. Sheath is terrible. I use my gerber lst magnum sheath. I just put some foam in the bottom of the sheath for the tool to sit on. Love gerber knives. It's all I carry.
Like another mentioned......the multi tool is a great value, but the holster really sucks. The Velcro closure is cheap, cheap, cheap. I wear it everyday and after a couple of months the Velcro doesn't stay stuck at all. I'm surprised I haven't lost the darn thing. Come on Getber.....you can do better than that
The design is better than all those abstract multitools that suck, I am never without this and I use it for everything, Gerber did it again!
I've had this knife for over 10 years and I have never had a problem with it. I mostly have it for fishing use, but it makes a great every day multitool.
I bought this tool primarily for how easily accessed the blades are with insulated gloves on. I've had this tool for 7 years, very easy to sharpen and easy to clean. The Philips head screwdriver isn't the best but being in a multi-tool I don't necessarily expect it to meet every situation. All-in-all I'd say I would buy this exact tool again.
My plier tooth broke , screwdriver bits not the best, would prefer the diesel for ease of use.
coworkers seem happier with its performance
While using my knife, the thread on my pouch started to come apart,so i had to use the pliers to pull the needle through that is the most ironic thing i have done. :)
Not so good, plier tooth broke off the 3rd day of use cutting strap with the cutter edge. Very disappointed seeing as how I used Gerber tools in Iraq with the army and they never quit.
Just got this as a gift, looks and feels great when using, Hopefully it will not have the problems some have commented on. This makes my 2nd. Gerber product, had a Gerber Gator knife, but someone else needed it more than me, it was stolen from toolbox at workplace.
I love Gerber blades, and this tool is very useful and durable. Unfortunately, the holster is cheap and fell off my belt the first week... thus the 4 star rating...
Awesome! If something broke on your gerber, then you are not using it right. Don't write crap like branden. It makes people very shifty about buying it
I have had this tool for a while now. I have used it on numerous occasions and I can tell you that this is a solidly built tool and strong as they come... if you match the tool to the job. Allow me to explain.
The Gerber Suspension has many tools on it, like a knife. I would have preferred a drop point tip, but that's just personal preference. That being said, I also understand that if I want to peel an apple, I will probably use this knife for that and other small tasks that require a small precision blade. If I want to skin a deer, I probably won't go for this one. Match the tool for the job. I carry 4 different knives, one medium folder, one karambit in a shoulder holster sheath, a leg strapped tactical 11 3/4 fixed blade for large tasks, and this multi-tool. The point being, if I need to remove a carburetor, this isn't going to be in my arsenal. I have ratchets for that. I can tell you one thing, I am glad that if a survival situation were to occur, I rest easy because I know that this tool is part of my every day carry... everywhere (yes, I wear all of my knives all the time without fail).
I would recommend this product to anyone who knows what to use it for. It is solid and the skeleton handles lighten it while not sacrificing strength. All in all, one of the most well thought out tools I have ever had the privilege to own. Not only that, but I have dealt with customer service before and they do repair or replace everything they make if you find a problem. Keep in mind that on assembly lines, sometimes defects slip past even the most diligent Quality Assurance worker. I can attest to the fact that Gerber has never failed to stand behind their products.
I got this tool about a year ago. I sent it out for repair got it back the first time I used it they broke. The needle nose pliers are useless now. I was waiting for them to improve them but I guess that just wishful thinking.
Carry this everyday. The Velcro on the case was worn out within a few days so I replaced it. Tools all function fine and for the money ($30) I'm happy with it. Still would rather have my old leatherman but this was a quick cheap replacement. I don't really like its shape when closed. Doesn't feel good in your hand except When using plyers
this is a good POS (piece of sh**) both screw drivers tips broke on frist use , the locking system will lock the blades when out but stopped locking them back in i really like this tool but with those failures i say its a good pos
Use this for daily for routine stuff repairs at work. Never had a problem except locks do jam if knife used to hard. Easy to clear jam though. Replaced holster with a generic cause I needed a snap closure. Love it.
Every tool on it works great, and it has come in handy, but the locking system seems to catch some times and has lost some strength over time. After opening the lanyard hole it seemed to not want to work properly. Overall a solid tool
I have had this for 10 years i don't leave home without it i use it for everything from building multi million dollar concerts to pulling hooks and gutting my fish the case was crap broke it in like a week i think bought a $9 flip phone case from a farm supply store fits great will definitely buy another when i finally kill this one
As always, Gerber continues to impress. I've probably owned/own over half a dozen Gerber pocket knives but this was my first multi tool and so far so good. It seems sturdy and yeah its a little heavy but its got a lot of features in one spot and is solid metal and I like that much better than any lightweight plastic crap. The sheath could be better and I might have to make a stop by the local shoe shop and see if they can do a custom leather sheath.
I got your Gerber Suspension Multi pliers after I landed in Afghanistan on my first tour, after 3 tours of opening every thing from cans of soup & vegetables to electrical panels, cut every type of rope, cord and cloth. I've used the Scissors to cut out stuff and they get you by in a pinch.
I'm placing an order with my company to get 50 now for my men under men :o)
Thank you Gerber for the best Multi tool around :o)
Great too for the price range.
Couple of problems: The phillips driver is worthless. The prongs don't stick out far enough to get a grip in the screw head.
Belt loops on the pouch tore off after 2 weeks.
I was using this multi-tool for a couple years prior to getting a higher quality tool from another manufacturer. I still wear this occasionally for work. It's adequate for a tool in this price range, in both quality and functionality. However, the sheath wore out very quickly and the velcro is almost non-existent anymore.
The pliers themselves don't hold up well under any twisting force, they're far too loose and there is too much play on the pivot. The scissors are not very great and can't cut much of anything.
The tools on one side are loose and I've tightened up the screw on a couple of occasions with no real results.
The weight of the tool is great, it's light and easy to use. The selection of tools is pretty decent for a lighter, lower cost tool.
Not a fan of the flat phillips screw driver, doesn't compare at all to a nice rounded one found on most multi-tools.
The lanyard hole is a nice touch, but kind of a waste of a tool slot.
I have the Suspension Multi-Tool. I really like this tool! It seems to be of high quality. I have heard very good ratings about it. So far it works very well and i am very happy with it. The only thing that seems a little bothersome is that it is now manufactured in china instead of in the U.S.A. I suppose that is how the prices can be $26 at Wal-Mart. (I'd rather pay the $44 and get the one manufactured in the U.S.A.)
Very good tool for it's price, the sheath is cheap. I have been able to cut solid 10 gauge wire with the wire cutters! Sometimes the locking switches get jammed, but some oil fixes the problem. Very good tool. Im impressed.
I got my Suspension last week and I love it. I own four Gerber multi-tools and this one was love at first sight. I love how the nylon sheath has vertical and horizontal mounting on the belt. Gerber has never let me down on customer service either. Thanks Gerber for being the best!
suspension is incredible and hasn't let me down in eight years. I use this daily in theatrical jobs all over the world and I have never broken or 'misaligned' the pliers, or any part of it. don't listen to the whiny piece of garbage 'pissed off customer'.
Great tool!! The best thing about it is every time the sheath breaks (which is about every 4 months) I bring it back and get a brand new tool.
I've had mine for years. I use it very often in the field and it has always worked great. Had to get a new sheath, got a leather one. By the way, I use the pliers a great deal and have never had a problem.
Had an issue with my suspension tool holster wearing out on my duty belt. Gerber sent a replacement right away. This is why I buy Gerber.
Got this knife three years ago for a Christmas gift. An awesome, yet practical tool ideal for the every day adventurer. And it won't break the bank like other tool companies. The only thing I would get rid of is the saw in that it doesn't work that well due to it's size. the only bad thing on this tool was the sheath, very cheap material, broke within a month. Great tool. Go Gerber!!!!!!!!!
Had this piece of shit for a week and the pliers went miss aligned after cutting simple thin wire. Other tools are fine but pliers are a bust.. thank you.
great tool, sheath was an issue till I emailed Carl Peterson at gerber and had the newly designed one in 2 days. Gerber man for life.
Bought this set back in 2007 at Walmart. at the time it also came with the 10 piece tool set . can say that the only part of this awesome set that has not lasted was the nylon sheath(it only took 8 years for the fabric to finally give out!!!). i have used this set up for 8 years know and it is easily the first piece of gear i grab before gong out the door in the morning. whether I am off to work or out to the lake or at the deer camp I have never found a set better designed to handle anything.
Great tool, I use it 100% time on my job. Had a little incident where my tool got cracked on both sides of the handle, is there any way I can get parts to restore my tool?. I need the two sides of the handle (4) pieces. If you have info, pls. send it to: email@example.com
For this for father's day. I use it a few times a week. I'm happy with the tool. The first thing I did was lube all the tools. I get it out daily and open and close all the tools. Being a sales associate in sporting goods at my local Walmart I knew the sheath was junk. I had an old nite ize wide phone case I used for my two way radio. I just folded the sheath closure flap around the back of it and stuck it in the phone case and secured the sheath to the case with some old laces I had in the drawer. The case mod work great and it didn't cost me a dime. Great tool for light work. Nice to have a go to tool when you're in a pinch. Will be ordering the 10 piece tool kit in the near future. Swear by Gerber knives. I own 10 myself. Never had any of them fail. Great job gerber.
Great tol/ I am in the military and use this multi tool daily. Case is worthless and called Gerber and they sent me out a military grade case free of charge. Im a lifetime customer now
I agree 100% with people on the case ABSOLUTELY junk i love the tool but with out the case i have no way to carry it around with me there for i cant use it for my jobs. I really wish there where better easier ways to get a new case.
Went to place this into my turnouts and dropped it from about waist level onto concrete. The pins that hold the tools into the housing shattered and the tools scattered everywhere. Never used it once. I'm currently in the process of finding out if Gerber will credit me.
Im a heavy haul driver and i love my gerber tool but the case is absolute junk. the velcro is way too weak to hold the tool in securely and the belt loop tore off within the first two weeks. this needs to be improved maybe with a hard plastic case the "locks" the tool in with out a top cover.
I originally bought one of these at the local wally world over 10 years ago. Since then, it has survived every form of abuse from being dropped in the ocean to being dropped in a camp fire. I never once questioned the reliability of this great little tool. My only complaints are that the sheath will fall apart long before the tool does, and the weight of the tool. But the extra weight is worth it to have every tool you need at your fingertips.
I agree with the men above me, I have had the tool for less than and a month and love the thing but the nylon case's stitching is already falling apart and I can tell will be ruined long before the tool.
I love this multitool. It's a total workhorse, rugged and durable, and I love the one-handed plier operation. The case is terrible, though. The nylon frays quickly and can't be repaired, and since the tool doesn't have a clip of any sort, you'd better hope you have deep pockets. Come on, guys - a hardworking tool deserves an equally hardworking case!
Pouch lasted two days. I loved the tool as a gift even though it is a bit on the heavy side but I now need to find a good pouch. More than I want to carry in my pocket.
love the tool & use it multiple times every day, but the pouch is horrible! weak Velcro and belt loop has failed making it hard to carry the tool around with me
The tool is a great-all-round companion for daily activities. The belt pouch is a joke, but not a funny joke. Stitching is coming out and the hook-and-loop closer does not work at all.
The tool is great, but the loop on the sheath is separating from the case. I am afraid to wear the tool, because I might lose it.
Our Agency traded in leathermans for this tool because the blades were short enough for our building security.
We should have kept the leatherman cases.
Nice tool for the price. I've only had it for a couple days now. But the knife is very sharp. Most knives are dull out of the package. I'm not sure what to make of the phillips head though. It's kind of flat and doesn't seem like it will be very useful. Find it hard to close the knives and sissors becasue the lock release is real hard to move. Case seems kind of cheep, but I guess that is why they provided a lanyard whole on the tool.
Another reason I buy Gerber. Customer Service. called today for a replacement pouch got a complimentary one sent in the mail. 5.11+ and Gerber outstanding customer service. i recieved this tool with all sharp edges sharp :) Spring assisted pliers are a small touch but a big help.
Good edc multi tool. The pouch no longer retains the multi tool. Its Velcro is poor quality. For a price point like this you should consider a better case.
The tool seems ok but the pouch id just a piece of garbage that is designed to facilitate loosing the tool. I have owned tool 2 months and pouch is useless now very disappointing .
As other reviewers have said: the tool itself is terrific: perfect weight, solid-feeling, all the right tools.
The sheath is came with started losing stitching within months, the belt loop is warping so much it slides loosely away from my belt, and the velcro holding the tool in has given up the ghost completely in less than a year.
I'm a loyal Gerber fan, best knives and tools for the price. I echo the previous two reviews. Great tool, but if you're going to provide a pouch, make it worthy of th3e Gerber brand. Stitching came apart on the flap, and I've lost confidence that it can hold it. Otherwise, the tool is great.
I had purchased a Leatherman that lasted me 15 years. The grip on it was terrible so when I saw the Gerber which had a far superior design for the grip I happily purchased it. The Case on the other hand... After only a month the case had frayed and the Velcro will not keep the flap secure. I work in an elementary school and I used to wear the case horizontally, until the tool slipped out and embarrassingly slid across the floor near a few students. I love the tool but the case is of poor quality.
How can we get a replacement case?
The tool is great. The pouch is lousy. I bought a new tool because I did not want to wait on the warranty replacement pouch for the one I had. The day I got the replacement pouch, the new one broke, back to two tools, one pouch. The pouch I got under warranty seems significantly better.
I have had this knife for years, I got an older model as an eagle scout gift when I was 16 and I have used it ever since. It had held up in my work in the Amazon, the southwest of the US, and my time in Alaska. Whether it was working on a boat, in the back country or at a bbq, this knife came in handy. Only two complaints. The can opener broke from normal use, and the pouch it came in fell apart after just a few years. But overall, great knife and travel companion.
I love the tool overall but have a couple issues... 1) like others have stated the case is not that durable and 2) the phillips screwdriver is almost useless being flat.
Great tool, love it came in handy many times.
What sticks about this tool is its very and I mean very cheep case or pouch, I do not know what you call it but that nylon piece of garbage was broke in less then 2 weeks. both strap holder broke I almost lost it because of it. It needs a case or pouch that can withstand getting in to and out of a truck longer then 2 weeks.
I have been a long time user of Gerber multipliers, but as stated in other reviews their pouches are not as good quality as the tools. So do yourself a favor and throw the original away and purchase a leather pouch that will accommodate the tool. 5 stars for the tool - 1 star for the pouch. 3 stars overall because Gerber should have a mind on overall quality of the products they offer.
This one is junk, first time i used it, the flat screwdriver broke, sent it back, they gave me a new one, and again, first time i used the pliers, the clips the hold everything together broke, now the knife is useless. i will be sending it back again, just a pain that i should have to do this, thought Gerber was a good product.
I love the tool and use it a lot. However, I am very disappointed with the pouch which is fraying and the stitching is coming apart. I find it best to wear on my belt but have lost confidence that it will not fall off.
For such a good tool you let it down with the cheap pouch.
I received the tool this Christmas as a gift. The tool is fantastic. It became the tool of for many of the day to day ranch activities. The only problem I have is the weak nylon case has two major problem. #1 the Velcro is week and opens and the tool falls out. I have been lucky and so far have fond it. #2 the first problem has been solved I have now totaly torn the belt loop off rendering the case junk!
I use this on the boat while out fishing and love it just dont rinse it off with salt water it will rust.
Great tool but the sheath is terrible! I've been looking for a replacement sheath that will stand up to the performance of the tool. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Been carrying this as an EDC for the past 10 years almost 7 days per week. I really cannot find fault with it. I have even used it as a hammer at times. Still going.
This is a great Leather-man style tool; it just has a few drawbacks as I look at it. First, the spring for the scissors is just a flexible rod that frequently pops off the scissor blade and does not let you finish a cut. Second, the lock unlock switches are hard to move and create problems when trying to fold down one or more of the tools. Third, some of the tools are hard to access and require you to really dig your finger into the tool to pull it out. For access to one of the tools, I have to completely pull out all the tools on that side, leave the tool that I want to use locked in while I force the others back into the frame! Very time consuming-it takes up time that I don't have. As a result, i would either recommend that you either go with a different tool, or have Gerber (being the awesome people they are) redesign the tool to make it more consumer friendly.
This multiple tool is a disgrace to craftsmanship. I bought it from target on December 23, 2014 on sale for $22.49. When I removed it from the package to take to work on Friday, December 26, 2014, the lock on the knife got stuck open. The knife and most of the other tools on that side of the multiple tool will not retract, making it utterly useless. This is going back to Target on Tuesday.
Replacement sheaths sent by Gerber have similar shape/outline to this http://bit.ly/1sYd3hK , lay flat, & are 3.25" wide x "5 long. Flap of case is rounded & is 3.25" long, but has a different embroidered Gerber logo.
Stan, Army Vet: Had the same problem in similar time frame. Emailed a photo of blown sheath to Gerber & they sent 2 Gerber ballistic nylon sleeves - 3.25"W x 5"L w/round bottom when flat - & zero problems since. Have the extra 1 still unopened, which I'll never need or use.
Gerber should ship the 2nd sheath w/tool & drop the original.
GREAT TOOL, which I use a few times a week.
The tool itself is of the utmost in quality, but as I have seen from others leaving their ratings of the item they have the same problem I have with it. The sheath has not held up like you would expect from the maker of such a quality tool.
The tool is awesome, and would rate five stars, but unfortunately the sheath is WAY under built for a tool of this weight.
These tools have a lifetime warranty, but the sheath is lucky to make it a year.
Please offer a leather sheath as an upgrade option, and build your regular sheaths up a bit.
Fantastic. I have it for 2 years already and it's a great helper. I've fixed numerous things with this tool's help. It's pretty cheap and it's best alternative for leatherman.
Great little tool, I carry and use it several times a day. I must agree about the sheath, though. I have to be very careful as the velcro is trashed and it falls out frequently. Any suggestions on a replacement?
Love the tool. Sheath does not hold up. Have been through two. You will lose this tool if you rely on the factory sheath.
I love this tool with the locking blades and accessories. The knife and the pliers get the most usage but I have used every tool in the device with satisfaction. However, I agree with Mr. Wilmot, the sheath doesn't measure up. I have even replaced the velcro once and I still drop the tool.
I've had mine for a couple years now. The thumb tab for the knife broke. It makes it pretty hard to get open, but it's possible. I've lost track of the receipt so warranty repair is out of the question. Still everything else works. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Keep it dry and lubed and it'll work fine.
This tool is awesome, use it every day. One day without it I feel incomplete. Great design ease acces to the tools.
I've owned the Suspension for almost 4 years now. I abuse it almost every day in the shop. I own a set of almost 20 pocket knives and multitools and this is my go-to tool for almost every job short of hunting.
Tools accesable without opening the pliers
Every major tool
Internal spring! (Most tools I've found under 50$ have an external spring and it falls out almost instatly)
Extremly durable, never rusts
Fantastic tool locking system
Locks can be hard to dissengange with one hand
Pouch is a peice of junk, I found a nice leather one from swiss army that works well. Would be nice to see Gerber offer a leather pouch
About a year ago the spring for the scissors broke, but they were not the most used part of the tool
Today the bolt that holds the handles to the pliers finally decided to shear. I am proud to say I will be buying another tool.
I agree with Stan. I like the tool a lot. The nylon sheath just can't stand up the the knife. I would gladly pay a bit extra for a durable leather or Kydex sheath. You just can't find an aftermarket sheath due to the tool's unusual shape.
This tool is fantastic! Backed by the Gerber name, which is total Quality, trust this multi tool to get the job done every time!
I use the tool all the time and I am very happy with it, however, I think the so called Ballistic Nylon Sheath lets the tool down.. The one I have is about 4 month old and is falling a part, in fact I lost the tool today and was lucky to find it in my truck.
Where can I get a replacement that will fit the tool and not fall a part?
This is a terrific tool. The outside access is great. That way everything has a handle, The pliers are another story. I broke mine trying to loosen a nut. Hopefully the replacement will be stronger. Having said that, the needle nose pliers do a good job in most applications. I pushed this one past its limit by twisting the grip. Love Gerber products.
Got this thing as a gift and I love it, Its a bit on the heavy side for a pocket carry and the case is a piece of crud, but the knife itself is a work of art. My pliers did eventually break after 6 months of constant use but Gerber fixed it for free.
Is a heavy and a builky multitool with short blades and other tools. So is too heavy and builky for your pocket but not a full size for carry it in a backpack or in the waist. Locking system in one side get stocked and now the tools have an small play when opened. The spring in the scissors just jump and now it does not work. The smallest flatblade screwdriver is not that flat so is basically useless. Although the saw is good and agressive the size make it very hard to use, so is useless too. Gerber could use the space for the saw and the small flatblade for a normal crosspoint screwdriver or other tool. I am gaving it 2 stars, so something good hace to be, right? Tools can be opened form the outside, so is very helpful, blades can be opened with one hand, also a good feature and finally the spring-loaded pliers are the best part of this multitool. To keep it mind: the steel is hard to sharp and don not came razor sharp just out of the box. And finally it get rust very very easily. It a cheap multitool for a backup, or for have it in your car, but definitely not for a main multitool.
I just bought this less than an hour ago the knife is so dull it cant even cut open the package it came in. I will be calling the 800-950-6161 number and asking for a replacement due to it being so dull. First Gerber product I have ever regretted.
Knives etc. are sharp and work great, but the pliers snapped in half. Not made of the stoutest stuff.
Once i get used to this knife, I think I'm going to love it.
Replacing a mid 90's vintage small Leatherman, and the only substandard issue when comparing to the Leatherman is no one else has as finely machined screwdriver tips. This knife has "weak" screwdriver tips.
It's really nice not to have to open the handles to access the tools, and the locking mechanism is superb. the plastic on the handles allows you to really clamp down on the pliers without digging into your hand.
The velcro on the sheath is weak.
looks pretty..broke the first day i used it cutting a piece of wire..didn't get to far with it after that..glad my life didn't depend on it.and still haven't heard from Gerber on repair or replacement with the lifetime warranty.
Getting tools out is very painful, locking mechanism is so miniaturized and its not working smoothly.Big problem is rust. After couple days in wet condition it becomes covered with rust. All after all for that price its not so bad but I am not fully satisfide.
The sheath is a POS, it only lasted 4 days in the field just wearing it on my belt...come on Gerber!
Tool itself is good. I really like the butterfly pliers. Locking mech. is cumbersome, essecially with gloves on.
very thick, not handy, to get the tools out is a pain. locking mechanizm is not working smoothly, short saw, short knife. Stay away from this product
Love the tool, as it is lightweight and versatile.
I think this tool has many good uses for typical household and garage type work, but the phillips screwdriver bit is weak and the flutes are not strong enough to use. I've rounded mine off.
Overall, nice compact package that does a lot of things well. Knives are easy to access too.
This tool has been extremely useful, however after only moderate use, one of the flat head screwdrivers broke off and I am unable to reattach it myself. I have submitted a warranty claim and will re-rate after Gerber addresses the issue.
I love the suspension, super durable but the case is complete garbage. they don't hold up for long at all.
I got this as a gift. Right off the bat. Heavy, unorthodox........getting the tools to come out, a bit awkward. The material in the and around the connectors, and springs... rusts straight way. Its titanium, grey but sure aint made out of it. This is not for a medium, sized man. The locks are difficult to use. Unless you got another tool with an edge on it? I used Gerber tools when I was doing electrician work, when I was opting out of being in the military, search and rescue / EMT field....which is what I used a few different Gerber tools for that trade. But as for this, not what I was expecting.
I like this Gerber!! Strong, durable, and last. the carrying case needs to be a little better, Velcro is ok but doesn't last too long, looses its grip to stay shut.
First off, this tool was great and a solid addition to my EDC. Although a bit heavy, all of the tools were sturdy and with little play. The locking mechanism worked well and I never had a problem with anything coming unlocked. The one MAJOR complaint I have isthe sheath. It has an awful velcro closure and it was the reason that I lost this tool on a hike yesterday. If you buy this tool just be sure to keep it tucked away in your pocket or in your pack.
tool is great but there can be improvements such as a better cross tip screwdriver this one is too thin...and the case is cheaply made for such a great tool.and should have a leather punch instead of two flat tip screwdrivers.....and feels too heavy to carry around all day....
Love this tool, traded it from an army guy and since then carrying it in a pouch on my belt. Always comes handy.
I had no problems with sheath but I would like to see a side clip on it, though.
Looking neat and tactical, durability, great spring for the pliers, locking system, rubber pad, much, much other...
Well, I would like to see a side clip on it cause I dont carry a sheath sometimes and it's pretty heavy to carry it in a pocket non attached to it.
Precise mark would be 4,8 but I will not be a stingy person so I give it 5 stars.
I love it. Its great for work, and handy as heck for fishing. Was a lot cheaper than Leather man stuff and looks cool. Scissors are kinda weird but work good.
Found this little beauty at a pawn shop. My brothers and dad, who have their own multi-tools, admire the quality of mine over theirs. Never regretted buying it. Except for one thing: not finding enough jobs to do with it on a regular basis.
Bought mine years ago. I took it out of storage last year for my security job. Work like new. Its the best mulitool I have used to date. I agree about the sheath. I use a leatherman sheath instead.
Love this multi tool. Always have it on me and bails me out daily. The only complaint I have it the sheath. Seems like everyone has the same issue. With they gave u a leather one.
The tool itself is great , I have yet to have a problem with it and use it almost daily. The sheath however has fallen apart after only 2-3 months of normal usage. Would rather if they had a Leather sheath or something more durable for purchase or replacement. Several reviews I have read state the same problem
I have carried this multi-tool for years. It is easily one of the greatest knives I have ever owned. The straight shape makes it ideal for precise wood carving cuts, an area in which it distinguishes itself over Gerber's magnificent lock blades. Durable, equipped with no useless tool, and nothing you would expect missing, I recommend this item wholeheartedly.
I buy the tool and is very handy but the screwdrivers strip out rather easily. screwdriver don't work.
Knife is great but managed to go through two sheaths in one year. knife not worth it if you can't carry it with you.
I've had mine for several years. I take it fishing and I keep it in the car for various needs. I love the spring action of the pliers. Gerber has always been good about warranty as well - I had a diesel that rusted shut and they replaced and sent a free hat!
At work, I feel naked without it. Now, I really am. The sheath broke and I don't know how to get a another one.
I had a Gerber before this one, a dream come true for getting in a bind. Thankful for this lil task helper. I would like to address an issue with my Suspension cause not sure if all were designed such as the one I had purchased; the scissor function was not the most practical. The spring would slip and could never cut more than twice before I would have to readjust. And may I suggest a more durable case to keep from fraying.
not a good tool. have not broken either of by previous knives. On this, the spring for the scissors broke, saw blade snapped, the knife has a poor blade and the phillips is useless. you should not call it a gerber.
Great for everyday use and camping. Ahree sheath is not the best. Straps and/or stiching can be stronger. Useful for any job or task. Solid multi tool to have.
Great tools and has everything I need in a multi-plier.
The Sheath is terrible. I have drop my tool several times. Before I start running around the shop or outside I have to verified that the Velcro on the sheath is still holding.
While the sheath is terrible, the multitool itself is the best I've ever used. destroys the Leatherman hands down.
GREAT knife for the price. A nice feature is that all the tools look into place when flipped out. A good choice of tools on it. The knife blade on it is nice and sharp when you get it. But the sheath is pretty bad and has been fraying and the belt loops are coming off. Overall a good knife.
If you can try it in the store. This is my second Gerber product and disappointed with both products.Im going to look at Leatherman and other brands also claimed to be "MADE IN AMERICA"
I have several of these tools and no more sheaths for them. I wish I could at least buy more sheaths from Gerber.
great construction on the tool itself but the sheath fell apart within 1 week of wearing on my belt. This caused the tool to be lost and require replacement. I guess its a great idea from Gerber's standpoint as they can now sell you another one.
The tool is great. I've used it probably every day for years, but the sheath is awful. It's become so "shredded" inside, I can't put the tool in or, if I force it in with two hands, can't pull it out. Plus, the belt strap has pulled apart at the attachment threads at the top, so it's now trash. That means I can't carry and use the tool anymore. I had a Gerber belt tool before this one, and the sheath lasted "forever." Maybe it's modern-day cost-cutting. NOTE TO GERBER: The tool is only as useful and long-lasting as its sheath! I'll have to look eslsewhere for a new belt tool.
I am very satisfied with this stout tool. I have worn it everyday since i bought it and end up using it everyday one way or another. I did rip the sheath tho in the first week of action and not sure if the warranty cover that.
Got this for my dad for one of our camping trips and it is fairly good but the fine edge blade needs to be bigger and the wood saw as well. Other than that it is a good and basic tool.
I have used the Multi-Tools, for many years now. I am partial to the Suspension. I have probably purchased 5 of them over the last 10 years, with the main reason for replacement being due to losing the tool all together. I find them to be extremely durable, and well built. The versatility of the unit is 2nd to none. I use it more than times in a day, and on more things than i can count. I actually feel naked when i reach down and find it is not on my belt! That being said, I STRONGLY AGREE with previous complaints about the sheath. Such a quality product, and master craftsmanship, all to fall so short of perfection, by combining it with a sheath that is nothing short of sub-standard quality, and is not worthy of the reputation Gerber has forged over many years. SERIOUSLY GERBER ENGINEERING DEPT.....RE-THINK YOUR DESIGN AND MATERIAL FOR THE SHEATH AND FINISH THIS TRUE MASTERPIECE.
Received this as an early Christmas present from my brother. So far, it has been super convenient, and even exceeds my expectations of a multi tool. I am a Sr. Design Engineer in R&D for my company, so I know mechanical design and also material strength properties etc, and get my hands dirty building prototypes by hand- this little baby has some thought put into it. The appearance is great, I love how it reminds me of the structure of a bridge. The tools are conveniently placed, and more rugged than you would expect from a mini tool. The steel used is strong, but slightly flexible, and appears corrosion resistant, but I havnt had it long enough to say for sure, and am not about to subject MY tool to a salt-spray test.
My favorite part of this is what I believe others are dissatisfied with: if you squeeze the pliers hard, you notice some flex. This is because of a couple little stress concentrating plates on the under side. Believe me, this is a great feature. I have had inferior multi-tools break right behind the jaws of the pliers, and this design greatly reduces the chances of that. In case of failure, it appears these plates are even replaceable! Well done Suspension engineering!
If I had one complaint, it is that one of the torx bolts was rather stripped during assembly, but I am being picky, and that is a tiny complaint on an extremely well-made and designed product. Worth every cent my brother spent in it, I'll probably get him one for his birthday! Sheath isn't flimsy, it is woven reinforced nylon. If you want a leather pouch, go buy one and stick this tool in it. I would highly recommend this product.
This was given to me as a gift and I love it. I have had it for a while now or at least an earlier version of this one. It has come in so handy so many different times and I have suggested it to many people and could not sing its praises enough.
I do facilities maintenance, and there hasn't been a job I haven't been able to use this tool for.
One of my locations is a skating rink, and if a hockey coach needs a driver to fix a helmet or skate, I hand them my Suspension and they always complement how awesome it is.
I BOUGHT THIS TOOL TO KEEP IN MY TOOLBOX IN THE GRARAGE I HAVE USED IT SEVERAL DIFFERANT TIMES AND USED IT WORKING ON MOWERS AND EVEN USED IT TO CUT WEEDEATER LINE TO THE CORRECT SIZE AND LENGTH IT HAS HELD UP TO DO EVERYTHING I NEED I EVEN USED IT TO PUT NEW SCREWS IN A SHED DOOR AT MY NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE, IT IS A BIT HEAVY TO CARRY BUT I LIKE IT . IT STAY IN THE TOOLBOX JUST INCASE I NEED TO GRAB IT AND USE IT IN THE GRARAGE.
From the many multitools on the market I'm impressed by this Gerber multitool. It was a little stiff at first putting some of the tools away from the locked position but that eased with time. I also have had the case wear out, the velcro no longer attaches and it is just worn out from daily use and I only bought it 2-3 months ago.
Great Multitool, needs a more durable case
Good Multi-Tool for its price. Gerber needs to supply a tougher sheath. Sheath did not last longer than a month. Had to buy another sheath from a Tractor Supplier store.
No issue with this one. Seems better made than a couple of the other multi-tools in the Gerber line. The sheath hasn't worn out, and I use it daily. Good job on this one. Of course I haven't used the screwdrivers yet.
I use this tool on the farm and at the office daily. For the money it is a great value. Spring loaded pliers and EVERY tool accessible from the outside make it a winner. The Suspension opens and closes much better than in other multi I have used. Gerber all the way.
Great multitool, featuring the tools I need the most. Very ruggedly built, resists scratches and rust, and the knife keeps a really good edge. I really like the locking feature for most of the tools. I would give a 5 star review, but the holster is absolute garbage. My holster didn't last 3 days, and there isn't a nicer one on the market. What good is a multitool if I can't carry it? I use a Nite-Ize holster that works, but not ideal. I'll probably commission a custom holster, so I can keep this great multitool on my belt - where I need it.
So some of these reviews seem to be pretty harsh on this great little tool. Honestly, I'd ignore them. If the tool breaks the very first time you use it, its probably a lemon.
I bought my Gerber suspension three years ago, and I've used it all around my home and on the job (I'm a 'cable man' installing phone / internet / tv for a local communications company).
I've never had a problem with any of the tools (though the scissors are sort of useless and could easily just be taken out of the tool entirely). The pliers have worked when I need them, the knives stay sharp as hell for a long time (though I have resharpened them both), the screwdrivers are good at driving screws.
I guess the reality is that my multi-tool is not a replacement for a 'real' pair of pliers or a screw driver. If I know a screw needs to be as tight as possible, I grab a screw driver. But if I know it just needs to be tightened then this tool works great. Rather this multi tool is a supplement to my ordinary needs. So if you expect this to hold up to the same work that say your standard pliers would, you're just an idiot and you probably shouldn't be using tools in the first place.
My dad purchased one of these and I can truly say that I completely agree with the description, "it’s a lightweight down-and-dirty workhorse."
PROS---I LIKE THE LOCKING FEATURE, THAT'S WHAT SOLD ME ON THESE
THE PLIERS HANDLE A GREAT DEAL OF STRESS
CONS---CHIPPED THE FLATHEAD SCREWDRIVER WITHOUT MUCH PRESSURE AT ALL
THE SHEATH BROKE ABOUT 3 WEEKS OF CARRY
OVERALL VERY GOOD FOR THE PRICE AND WOULD RECOMMEND ANY TIME
It. Is sharper than a obsidian scalpel.
It's locking mechanism is hard to unlock because my thumb is sore unlocking and locking it It is heavy duty and is great for heavy duty outdoor work bush craft And
Every day use. It is big bulky and needs a sheath I you liv in the USA. You get a life time
Warranty that's great. Because I. Put a lot of stress on my knifes. It is sturdy and clean comfy able design. Your getting your money's worth out of it it is great for big hands so it is aimed towards older scouts or just people with large hands I love this knife totally recommend it
The tool is very handy and fairly well-made. Blades are good, but the screwdrivers strip out rather easily and the plier jaw has too much lateral play. I agree with everyone else that the sheath just flat-out sucks, and I'd have gladly paid more for a good leather sheath. I'll still buy your knives, but you've probably lost my multi-tool business to Leatherman.
Always loved Gerber,but...Case wore out in about a week, 6months later, use the pliers for first time, and they break instantly, not even prying, holding a nut to tighten a bolt! Expected better quality for my money.
The best phillips screwdriver around, fits virtually any size screw head. Best multi-tool I've owned yet.
Had the thing two weeks and the pliers snapped!! Really!!! This is the first Gerber product I have ever owned that has broken
The tool itself is great. Very comfortable to squeeze. Easy access to the blades and tools. The only problem is the case. It fell apart early. Velcro won't even stick anymore, so the tool fell out.
Great multi-tool with easy access to the components from the outside. Use it around the farm all the time. Good looking as well!
The multi tool itself is great! It has reached my expectations, like cutting packages and stuff.
The locking mechanism is good too. When I tried to bend around open tools they barely moved at all. However the pliers did flex a bit which may have been a sign of weakness in the screws that held the tool together. But overall the multi tool is pretty good. The sheath however, is a different story. When I first got it, the stitching has already starting to unravel! But other than that, over all I'm impressed with my first experience with Gerber!
I just got this a month ago and so far I am pretty impressed with the tool itself. The blades and drivers are holding up to fairly constant use with only minor wear; but that's only a month in. The sheath however is garbage. I would throw it out immediately upon purchase; within one week the belt loops were tearing out so I had to start carrying it sideways, and now the velcro won't hold it closed at all and it's nearly been lost a few times. I hope the tool is more durable in the long run.
This is my favorite multi-plier yet! And yet...the sheath, as others here have pointed out, is terrible. I would have gladly paid another $5 for an all-leather case. I've gone through three of the nylon sheaths so far (yes, I've bought three Suspensions: one for home, one for travel, and one for backup), and all three sheaths have fallen apart within the first month of use...and it's simply hanging off my belt! I'm not a construction worker, or a rodeo clown, so this sort of rapid failure of materials is a striking contrast to the quality of the multi-plier, which is superb.
Gerber! FIX THIS!!!
Great tool here folks. I use it on the farm often and keep one in my emergency bag, as well as the glove boxes of all my trucks. The tools are easy to get to, lock into place, and the spring loaded pliers are very handy.
the suspension multi-plier is an amazing tool. i bring it every time i go fishing to cut line and the to take the hook out of the fish's mouth. the scissors could have been made a little better, sometimes when you cut something the "spring" slips and you have to put it back in place. other than that, it is an amazing tool.
I HAVE A GERBER SUSPENSION THAT MY DAD BOUGHT ME BACK IN 2011 IT NOW LIVES IN MY TOOLBOX JUST IN CASE I NEED IT TO USE FOR SMALL OR MEDIUM JOBS AROUND MY HOUSE OR NEIGHBORHOOD. I HAVE USED IT SEVERAL DIFFERANT TIMES AND IT IS A NICE MULTI TOOL BUT IT MAKES IT NICE TO JUST KEEP IN MY TOOL BOX JUST AS A GO TO TOOL.
This tool is great, i use it on a daily basis. MY major issue is the sheath fell apart after only 3 months of use. Would like to see higher quality sheaths.
Since I purchased this knife, I have been using it everyday in various ways such as cutting rope, cutting tight wire, small tree branches. Also using other parts such as the screwdriver, the scissors to cut fabric and a waterproof liner, and let's not forget opening a beer bottle. The only negative thing I can say about this knife is the pouch should be a more heavy duty material. Thanks Gerber!!
I had used this knife for about 6 months then one day it fell apart. I am sending it in. I think it may have ben defective.
This is rare - a multi-tool that actually has tools that you use. Most multi-tools are for mechanics and m4a1 fixing. This is one that the ordinary person can actually use.
I had it up on a camping trip after a couple of days the sheath was starting to fall apart and 2 days away from the end of the trip the tip of the knife broke so for 2 days i had a knife with no tip not very helpful but other than that great knife
I received the Gerber Suspension as a gift in October 2012. Since then I have carried it on my belt. I have been very happy with the tool although I have had problems with the case. Both belt loops became detached from the case and I cannot use it on my belt anymore.
Great Tool Very POOR SHEATH!!!!!!!!!!!
i have had and carried a Gerber Muilti Tool for more than 20 years and it is still going stroung in it original Sheathl I bough this one and with in the first month the sheath began to fall apart.
A great and complete multi tool, is confortable to use everywhere and everytime. Really good are the safes switch to lock the tools.
I received the suspension as a Christmas present. It worked great for the 1st year and I was really loving the convenience of having so many tools on my hip. However one day, while using the tool on the job, the large Flathead broke off leaving just a small piece of metal at the base. I excused it as a fluke and used the small screwdriver instead. then, a week later, the small screwdrivers tip broke. then, not long after that, i was using the saw to carve out a hole in a plastic wall mounted electrical box for an add'l cable connection, and the saw broke.. i am having to send it back for warranty.. the sheath has held together fine for me but the design did disappoint.. it would have been a perfect tool for me it it were a sturdier built item. hopefully the replacement will not suffer the same fate.
Good tool.....purchsed it in for my deployment to Afghanistan. Liked the ease to access the tools without having to open the main body. However, the sheath that came with it failed within the first two months of my deployment-that was troublesome, since I didn't have any alternate that could fit the tool. Eventually figured a way to recover the sheath, using ducttape and zipties....sheesh. Next time, I will consider an upgrade to the sheath, something that wont wear out after just two months!
I bought this tool about a month ago- I really love it. It has performed better than I thought it would considering how affordable it was. The major complaint is the SHEATH. It turned into a handful of thread. Searching the web for a better sheath. I agree, that heavy leather case would make this a 5 star item.
Love this tool, but like the others I need a leather sheath. I have had the nylon loop sewn on twice so far and it's broken again.
This tool goes with me everywhere and has helped me out on several occasions. I agree with the previous posts, my nylon sheath has since frayed and the loop has torn. My scissors are no longer spring-loaded....as that piece has broken off, but all in all I love this tool.
I bought this knife 6 years ago, I have it but dont really use it due to the short length and dullness of the knife. I also dislike using the saw because once wood gets into it its very hard to clean out. It feels very awkward in my pocket, and the sheath did me no good and I only use the sheath to store it in, but dont carry it. I mostly carry my Leatherman Blast with me. It feels good in my pocket, my dad and I were always arguing as to who was better Leatherman or Gerber, I eventually switched to Leatherman. Sorry Gerber (:
i just purchased the gerber suspension it has great first impressions love the locking system but the sheathis terrible with a better sheath this would be 10 times better.
I love gerber tools and I really love this one since it's spring loaded and very easy to use compared to some of my other gerber tools. My only major issue is the sheath. Mine just came a part the other day. The stitches holding the loop on the upper prtion just came apart. Other than that this tool is great.
A great multi-tool! This little gem has helped me and several friends out over the last few months that I've had it. A leather carry case would make this a 5 star item.
I've had the Gerber Suspension for about 6 months. The other reviews are correct, the bundled nylon sheath is terrible. Mine is frayed and I always half expect to reach for the tool and it the sheath has broken off and i've lost it. The tool itself is great and I don't know how I got around day-to-day without one for so many years. Upgrade the sheath and you're set.
Pros: They look pretty. Also the spring for the pliers is pretty neat.
It only took two weeks of being my every day carry to break them. With the rear-most wire cutters on the pliers, I attempted cutting a length of solid 14 gauge wire, and the right jaw of the pliers broke off, just above the hinge.
This multi-tool is ridiculously heavy Also it feels Clunky in your hands while using the tools in the handle
Would make a nice little "first multi-tool" for a kid, but definatly not going to save your life any time soon. Spend the few extra bucks for a better quality multi-tool
got this tool for christmas and was very impressed with the tools and the locking system. i do agree that the sheath should be made out of leather so that it lasts longer. overall a great tool
Great tool. Ill be honest. I love it. I never leave the house without it. It's great, I use it for everything. Unfortunately, the sheath isn't great and should be remodeled. Also I was mad about the shipping service. I ordered the 2 day UPS for $10 dollars, and it ended up coming 3 days instead of 2.
I do a lot of walking and deal with a great amount of things. This tool comes in very handy, but after only 3 shifts at work, the case has started to fall apart. The dual belt straps is a great add, the outer lining around the case starts to unravel. A leather case would be great maybe even a polymer type one too. But please don't change the tool, it is great and that is the main part.
had one before and came with set of different bits and holder.
new one just bought another and now no bits and the cross bit on this is useless.
and the holder very cheap.
I have this tool and it's a solid piece of gear. I am a tinker use it daily and it doesn't ever disappoint. I know how to use tools, and as a former Infantry Marine, I know how to abuse them. I would trust my life with multitool.
I love this tool. I used in Iraq but just like evryone else says, the sheath sucks and needs better material.
Great tool... but the but the case needs serious work - doesn't hold up very long. Need to design a leather case option for this multitool.
JAN 4 2013
I HAVE THE GERBER SUSPENSION THAT I BOUGHT IN SEPT OF 2011 I WORK FOR A FRIENDS MOWING SERVICE AND I CARRY THE MULTI TOOL EVERYDAY IT DONT GET USED ON A DAILY BASES JUST WHENEVER THE JOB CALLS FOR IT TO BE USED. WE USE THE WIRE CUTTERS TO CUT WEEDEATER LINE TO THE CORRECT SIZE TO PUT ON WEEDEATER. I FIND THAT THE MULTI TOOL IS A LITTE HARD TO GET OUT OF THE NYLON SHEATH OTHER THAN THAT IT IS A AWSOME TOOL I ALSO USE IT CAMPING ON WEEKENDS FROM APRIL 1 TILL NOV 1
Great knife couldn't ask for a better tool. Used it for two years on many of trips and haven' t had one problem.
Love the design and function of the Gerber SUSPENSION multi-tool. Have taken this tool on two day expeditions and really like it's practical design and ease of access to the outboard tools. This is a great general purpose tool suitable for outdoor use. The small blades and saw do limit it's use a little. But overall, I am very impressed with the tool and the small blades are easy to work with.
I have seen many nice multi-tools in my scouting career, but i've never seen any tool like this...
Pro: Good durability and some very heavy duty tools.
Con: Redesign sheath and the locking mechanism was very stiff when I took it out of the box, but I just had to work it in.
Overall: I love it and would never give it away. (:
the tool is great , the sheath should be changed , it only last about 6 weeks .. I use this tool on adventures to the Amazon and I love it .. found an old leather sheath that works well with it
I have used this tool for about four years. No problems with the tool, but I would agree about the case material needing a redesign.
Great tool, far superior than a leatherman but the pouch is not up to the job.why don,t you make a decent leather pouch for it?
I've had mine for about 7 years. I love the tool and use it everyday, but just like everybody else says, the sheath is cheap. The stitching came apart within a couple months. I have it shoddily sewn back together, but the quality of the sheath needs to be improved.
A good little tool and it always comes in handy for any type of job. Had it for 6 months now and nothing has failed me yet. Not even the sheath.
My go to tool in a world where the show must go on. I have had it for five years and it is pretty much everything I need minus a c wrench and flashlight. A hidden feature is the holes on the side can be used to open shackles.
Have to agree with engineer on this one. The tool is fantastic when I can use it. However, it's a little difficult to carry around without the pouch, which only lasted about a month for me.
Recently, I read a review where someone said 'who uses these things for the pliers - really'. As a well experienced and aged mechanic, I can honestly say that this tool has mostly eliminated my other needle-noose pliers, which were good Craftsman tools. The grips feel very good in a hand that is used to working with tools for a living, and the spring tension allows 'em to be used for long periods of time without any fatigue.
If the pliers are used strictly to grip and turn in a linear motion, then they are great – if any side to side tension is introduced, they WILL sheer off; the design is good, but the metal quality is quite poor in composition and strength. In terms of comfort and feel, these hands-down win over everything in my tool box. Though if I need to do anything where the clamping can suffer torsional force, then an awkward feeling but reliable craftsman or snap-on set of needle nose will need to be used.
Most of the tools are quite good for general use. The knife blade sharpens quite well, the flat-tip screw-driver bit is decent and the scissors are out-of-the-league-GOOD! I constantly use mine for cutting thin metal and plastic, when I don't feel the need to grab another purposed tool for that job.
Other than the metal for the pliers being very poor, the Philips bit is about as useful as a limp dick; why even bother with a '#2 bit' if you're only going to give us two full size spades and two undersized. The amount of force required to press this tool into a reasonably well torqued #2 machine screw or wood screw is unreasonable. A machine screw torqued to 10 ft/lbs will unscrew quite easily with a traditional screwdriver, yet 'this' tool will require you to press your body weight against it, just to assure you're centered well and you don't accidentally slip and round out the screw.
Other than these two flaws, the multi-tool is quite solid for general purpose use. If stronger pliers were added and a fullsize #2 Phillips bit were included, I'd be happy to pay twice price. :)
I have a gerber suspension multi tool that I use working for a friends mowing service we use it to cut weedeater string when ever the weedeater runs out of string this tool does everything that we need when out mowing
I've had mine for five years and counting. Each tool is easy to open/access and even close with one hand.
Like other reviews, the sheath was really disappointing. I've had to do some hand-stitch repairs to keep the belt-loop on. Another thing is sometimes the spring on the scissors pops to the side, but I don't use them often so it isn't a big deal for me but it may be for others.
great tool i like the spring loaded pliers. i also like the feel in hand of the tool and the easy fast access of the tools outside the handles also the locks on the blade tools work well. the sheath does need to be better.
I love the tool but the sheath is a POS. It did not last a week. I did not buy this because it was low price. I bought it for quality. I would have gladly paid more a good sheath. right now, it's useless because I cannot carry it.
Great small multi tool ,highly recommended.Would be 5 stars if the sheath didnt let it down ,tool sticks inside making it hard to get out and stiching is coming apart. The tool itself is great for what it does!!
I use this thing for everything, I'd definitely buy it again!
the ONLY negative is the sheath is below par... I'm currently looking for a replacement.
Have had my tool for at least 10 years. works GREAT!!! BUT the sheath SUCKS!!! lasted about two weeks!!! been through 2 before i just threw it away.
Superior tool , Inferior sheath. My sheath literally came apart at the seams I almost lost the tool. You need to beef up on the on the carrying component.
The two bad reviews below are just bad reviews by stupid people. If the locking mechanism were to fail, which I doubt, that's a product default (especially if it only happened in 3 days) and gerber has a lifetime warranty on all their tools. I work on harbor boats on the mississippi river and I've had my suspension for around six months. I've used it for everything from unscrewing doors off of industrial kitchen coolers (in the galley on board a line boat, did a stint there for about two weeks) to fixing and repairing hoses, pumps, etc. The only bad thing about it IS the belt case which broke after maybe three months, then I flipped it and used it the other way before it broke again. And maybe the scissors. I mean, the scissors are extraordinarily good for something on a pocket tool, but don't expect them to cut through tougher materials. All in all, I was impressed enough that I'm keeping the suspension as an every day tool and I'm looking for a gerber with tools that are more suitable for the work I do.
Handy tool. Lousy sheath. For the 3 weeks I was able to carry the tool to work on my belt, I got a lot of use out of it. Once the sheath ripped I tried carrying it in my pocket but it's a little too bulky for that.
The belt holster sticks, only have had it 2 weeks and it broke, make me think in 4 weeks the whole knife might fall apart
A great tool!!The two knives came razor sharp, the pliers feel strong and I have already cut snare wires with it,the saw is kind of small but i guess it was meant for small cutting task, though the saw is not as sharp as a saw on a swiss army knife but its still ok,The scissors are really nice, they feel like shears , the rubber pads are great they make the tool really comfortable.Still its great.
Things i don't like are the studs for the safety mechanism, they really hurt your fingers if you use this tool a lot , next is the sheath, Gerber should make the sheath a little bigger so that the tool can fit in more and can close it more securely, add more velcro on the sheath and make a more sturdier sheath as a lot of people have complained it being torned up easily.
overall a great tool if you don't want to spend to much money on a multitool. I don't live in the US so multitools like Leatherman are really pricey. They cost about 200 or more for Leathermans and about 100 or more for Gerber products in Asia.Just hope that Gerber 's warranty covers my product because i live in Asia.So if you want a good but not too pricey multitool go with the Gerber suspension or the evo.
I love the tool, but the locking system has proved difficult to use. It refuses to budge unless I use both hands and is stiff if I don't use it every couple of hours.
Had this knife for about 5 years and I wear and use it constantly. Excellent bit of kit, just starting to show signs of wear in the action and locking mechs on one side now. Must have an older model pouch as it is solid. 5 stars.
so i'm not alone. the sheath tore after just a few days of use and it seems that it isn't covered under the Gerber lifetime warranty, we have to buy a new one. hope its better than the first one.
the tool is great, love it!!
Awesome tool!! Use everyday.comparable to any leatherman tool but more affordable.love the spring action.
Great multi-tool, but disappointed in the sheath. It's ripped a couple times. The nylon needs to be sturdier if you're going to wear it on your belt consistently.
first time tool was used blade locking mecanisem failed missaberly highly disapointed locking system bent backward while cutting a slot in a peanut butter lid dont bother with this one
I have used this multi tool for only 3 days of occasionnal use and I have to admit that I was quite disapointed with the purchase and I will list why.
-The two knifes didn't came that sharp out from the box.
- The Saf.T.Plus locking system died almost instanly and all my blades are running loose when in use.
- Rust appeared on the pliers.
- The in-hand feel when using anything other than the pliers is uncomfortable.
- While using the pliers, the other tools are loose and start to open themselves in your palm which is quite dangerous.
- The sheath breaks down because of poor sewing points and overall poor fabric.
- The saw is ridiculous, the teeths came almost round and I had to pull out my good old Victorinox to finish the job properly.
- The unlocking slide buttons are also quite painful after multiple uses.
I love this multi-tool. It works great for whatever I've needed it for, and is very sturdy. Only drawback is the sheath like others have said, only because it seems a bit weak and I'd rather not loose this tool because of it. Other than that, I would highly recommend this tool.
Sheath was very poor quality. Fell apart in a matter of week, with ripped stitched and seams.
The tool design is excellent though- Access to everything but the pliers without opening the knife, one handed blade and lock operation, and access to everything but the saw (which is probably the least functional blade on the tool) even with gloves on.
My only complaint is that I snapped the tip off one side of the pliers, which makes life frustrating sometimes.
I got this two or three weeks ago and it hasn't failed me at all. Great set of tools, sharp knives. The only thing I didn't like was the shealth: Its not falling apart, but the velcrow is a little weak. Except for the shealth its an all around great multi tool. I'd recommend it to anyone!
This tool is exceptional in design and usefulness When my belt goes on so does my GERBER. It has performed many tasks that got me out of a jamb while hunting, fishing or other. The sheath is the problem although I must say it was used a lot. I don't want to lose the tool so I must rely on a good sheath. Can I get a better replacement?
I too am very disappointed in the sheath...in my line of word a sheath is very important not only for quickness and convieniance to keep machines going but for comfort too...im NOT going to walk around with it in my pocket lol. my sheath started falling apart a week after i got it which was about 3 weeks ago but other than that i LOVE this tool. PLEASE FIX THE SHEATH. a heavy duty tool deserves a heavy duty sheath!!
Love my Multi-pliers. Wear it daily. Just like my phone I wouldn't leave home without it. Performs well; outstanding.
My only disappoinment is the sheath. It started falling apart soon after I purchased the tool. To keep the tool practical and useful the sheath is essential.
Where can I get a new one?
Compared with similar price point products of other manufacturers, this tools is better enginered. I paid the same for a leather man wingman and the wingman had play between the pliers nose, and had no locking mechanism on most of the tools. Has a nice feel in the hand. Recommended unless you need more bells and whistles
Having trouble finding parts
I squeezed the pliers together and broke the locking mechanism art i think
i bought this tool at Kandahar airfield. and after 2 months the locking system broke.
i am still using it because it is very usefull. but a bit inconveniënt that the locking mechanism is broken.
as a mechanic i use it for my work daily
I've had mine for 5 years good tool a little cheaply made and the sheath sucks I had to sew it 3 times so far but the velcro is worn out c'mon gerber make a real sheath
I am a Combat Engineer, love this tool however cant use it at work as like so many other people, the sheath broke so now it sits in a drawer which is a shame as I used it for everything. Had a few problems with the locks but sent it back and got a new one and havent had a drama since, just need a new sheath so it can go back on my belt where it belongs
This thing is great. I never leave the house with out it. All the tools you need right in one place.
very durable i use it a lot camping and fishing i''ve dropped it in lakes it does not rust and. its built very good. its my go to knife for everything
I love this multitool, I use it for everything from stripping wire to working on pumps and motors!
I have never had it fail me but one must understand it's not an 18" pipe wrench!
I have one in each of my vehicles, home & work toolbags & my motorcycle.
I especially like the spring loaded pliers!
I am now officially a Gerber baby!
Have lost mine in the last few days, I loved it used it most every day sometimes several times a day. Funny how they are $10 cheaper at Amazon so will get two, then never without one
Its a great tool for going fishing and doing light jobs. It's handy but its heavy and I'm afraid to put to much strain on it. The peice of metal that keeps the tools from running into the rubber grip at the base of the handle already busted off on one side. I wish I was able to use it for heavier jobs without the fear of some piece busting off and flying back at me.
I have bought many of these, I dont know, more than five. I have bought many because I really like how they function tools on the outside pliers inside but with handles you can still grip, and if they break? Gerber lifetime warenty.
Tools on outside
Suspention makes for easiest one hand use even in tricky little holes you can't see into.
Both a straight knife that is easy to sharpen and a serated blade for other tasks.
Bent design of screw drivers is a constant battle in most jobs that are already tricky.
A two inch saw?! WTF?! What can you cut with a two inch saw? Give me a metal bastard file or something we can use... A two inch saw?! For real? Seriously?
The pouch that comes with the tool is a poor joke, rips first time it snags anything (not good on a 300' ladder. That could kill someone.
Rather cheap tool. The pliers will break with any side load.... Any... Trying to twist a zip tie in half busted one pair. The locks are O.K. At least at keeping The blades from closing, they will snap backwards if you are stabing something (like an oil bucket) to let it drain faster.
Bottom line: I love this tool in particular, it works in many jobs I have repaired 230V chain hoists with this tool alone, When you have nothing else having this tool will save the day. I have used leathermans supertool 300 and thier charge XTI. For the money ($29.95 at most stores vs. supertool at $80 and the charge at $140) this little guy is worth it and when I have a box of busted ones I might take them in, right now it is better to keep buying them with what gas costs. Each of these tools ussually lasts about two or three months of serious but not abusive service. I use this more than any other tool because it is always on my belt... The sheath has gotten far too cheap though... I usually buy gun magazine pouches instead the ones that come with the tool. The included sheaths are junk that wont last you climbing under a single gearbox, if they even make it up the 300' ladder.
Like the pliers, and they feel rather comfy on my hands. Tools are ok, saw and blades are kind of short, but still get something done. Only complait I have is that the tools on the plain edge knife side are a bit wobbly and when one of the tools is locked, the others can fall out of the handle and undo the lock quite easy, so everytime you operate the knife open or close you have to remember it, or you might end up with a small cut on your fingers. but when you hold the tool/operate, your fingers keep the other tools within the handle and prevent it from unlocking. But on the other side with the serrated blade they work/lock great without any problems. When all the tools are closed and you wave the tool from side to side, the plain edge sides tools jump out from the handle, but not enough open on themself, but still enough to notice it quite clearly. But as long as you do not open any of the tools they stay somewhat in place. Makes the tool completely un-useable? No. But it is something that you have to take into concideration everytime you operate the tools in that handle.
This is one of the best knives i have i am constantly using it and it never fails me but the scissors do get a bit sticky
Good all round tool, unfortunately one of the two white metal plates which form part of the return mechanism snapped with relatively light use. It still works but the tools on that arm now articulate back further than they should.
Also the screwdriver head could be made of harder metal as it wears a bit easily and the scissor spring is real badly designed, it always slips out of place. Otherwise a sturdy tool. Just disappointed its not as good as I first thought.
mine broke in the first week I had it. I was so upset over it that I spent another 70.00 and got a Leatherman. If I knew where to ship this one, I would send it back to you, and you could do whatever you want with it!
I have had this for nearly 5 years now of heavy every day use as a welder. The wire cutteres are the best I have used in a multitool for cutting .035 and .045 welding wire, he blade keeps it's edge well and the lock is rock solid. I wear the sheath horizontally and had no problem with it tearing but I do have problems with the velcro holding up, it has slipped out and I have "lost" it a couple times and had to go searching. I finally got a MW phone case that works much better as a a sheath.
I had this tool for a couple of years. It broke while is was trying yo fix my atv in the woods. I sent the tool back to Gerber for repair. It was less than 1 week, and Gerber sent me a new one. Hard to find a company these days that still know how to treat a customer. Keep up the great work Gerber.
I agree the sheeth was not great but I used a small size pepper spray holder and it works great.
I love this tool it is great and works very well
I just had the little trangle peice break off teh blade and the catch is hanging up but I have it off to gerber to be fixed.
While this tool is a ergonomic useful tool, I agree with the Reviews...the sheath is sub-standard to the tool! I've just experienced the belt loop tearing this past weekend just to a few threads left! The only solution I've been able to locate is to purchase the Gerber 22-49445 10-Piece Tool Kit as a replacement to the sheath! The Ideal solution would be for Gerber to Warranty the sheath and replace it with an upgraded version! Gerber???
The tool is great but it sits in a drawer as the belt loop on the sheath tore the threads and came apart. This happens because the tool gets stuck in the sheath (poor design) and getting it out puts undue stress on the weakest part of the sheath. I gave only one star because a great tool left in a drawer due to lack of attention to detail (the sheath) makes this junk!
Owned this just under a year. Bought on special, suspect I got factory seconds although nothing this shoddy should ever have left the shop if gerber wanted to keep their reputation. Poor locking, plenty of play. Washers need to be in specific positions for the locking mechanism to work however 80% of the time (on the serrated side) they skip their engagement, rotate, and cause the whole locking mechanism on that side to malfunction. The sheath lasted ~8 months, but even well before then the tool would often catch on removal/replacement and the thin nylon belt loop causes it to flop around a far bit even on belts only slightly narrower than it's max. Also the scissors spring skip over the side of the scissors before they are half engaged.
All in all it works, but I won't be buying gerber again. I have a leatherman on order to try out, and(being one of those people who never throws anything out) plan to chuck this thing into a bug out bag as a last resort.
I haven't found a new sheath as of yet, so I can't use the tool. The Velcro is a joke and a half, then the belt loop to keep the tool vertical is to torn. I am very disappointed. I received this as a gift. I always thought Gerber was a very good product, I'm not so sure anymore. I'll give the knife 3 stars but minus 10 stars for the sheath.
Crosspoint screwdriver was utterly useless until I spended 2h grinding it to shape (same proplem on other specimen I have encountered). Operation of pliers requiers BIG(ger) hands (I buy gloves size L ).
Over all a good tool but I prefer my MP800.
Love the tool but the sheath is a joke. First had to replace it because the tool wouldnt come out of the sheath. Now the belt loop is torn half off and Im afraid im gonna loose it. found the old sheath and it has the same issue. Gonna try to get a third sheath now.
I've had my Suspension for about four years now, and aside from sharpening the blade once and having to re-grease the joints, this is the best multi-tool I've ever had. The tool locks are great.
I've had it on me every day of those four years, and it has served me well on each one of them
Given to me by a friend and is very well made and has helped me to do a quick fix when I'm in the truck on the road or out in the bush to cut or open tin food in my 4WD in Australia.
love the tool but the sheath is a pain in the but to get the tool out of do you have a leather sheath that the tool will fit in and is easier to get it out of.
Not durable, First time I used the blade something broke and now half the tools over extends/don't lock open. Next time the wedge that gives grip to open the blade came off.
I like the idea that it doesn't require complete opening to use the fold out to
Bought the suspension at canadian tire, came to your website to contact you to tell you that you should include a guide or some sort of info in your product packaging, then i saw the price you charge as opposed to the price I paid, Canadian Tire was not t

great tool .. I have gone thru 3 tools in 2 years ..love the tool , hate the sheath .. I wear my tool on my belt every day of the week .. have had two sheaths break off my belt and lost ! I still love the tool
