Great lightweight carry knife, IE if you were in gym clothes or sweats, knife is very light weight and sharp, I do wish it had a thumb knob as it cannot be deployed quickly. Pretty simple setup, so light you'll forget you're even carrying it.

This is an excellent knife, now my main edc knife. It came shaving sharp, and the quality and fit and finish is great. It's very lightweight, yet feels very sturdy. The weight, size, blade shape, makes it a perfect edc knife. The polymer handle is good, the sharkbelly grip feels like it works too. I would honestly say this knife compares very favourably to the Insect Hole Brand's "delicate" model knife, except for half the price! For the price, a made in the USA Gerber knife with quality steel, you can't go wrong. I'm very happy with this knife! I've always been a Gerber fan and honest useful knives like this, I'll be glad to carry Gerber.

This is a middle-of-the-road, light-duty knife. The blade is extremely difficult to deploy one-handed (notice in the video that the guy uses both hands). Not a problem. I have other knives for that type of use. The handle is a good length (I hate knives that stop short). But the grip is extremely slippery.

The steel is, well, 420HC. Again, light duty. Easily sharpened, quickly dulled. Good for slicing or maybe light food prep. The blade has just enough curve for a sheepsfoot blade.

My knife has no side-to-side or front-to-back play. I appreciate that. The knife is unevenly sharpened but a couple passes with a stone will solve that (remember: esily sharpened, easily dulled).

I paid $20 for mine. Is it worth the $20? Yes, it is. But keep your expectations in check. If you want a hard-use Gerber, they have other options.

I've had the Sharkbelly for about 6 months now and its been my go-to on job sites and I use it almost daily. Its stayed sharp and functioning properly despite being used to cut all sorts of tough materials and even used as a hammer and pry-bar at times. I also really like how light weight it is. If you're looking for a good all around knife that will hold up to the test of time the Sharkbelly is for you.

  • |BY: , Great Knife for Carry in NYC

OK, so lets set aside all of the great things this knife has to offer that all the reviews have already mentioned.

One thing most people dont bother to mention is that this knife is excellent for concealed carried in very strict cities like New York City!
Here in NYC a folding knife has to be under 4" and cannot have any spring or open assistance of any kind! Thumbstuds are a grey area that may be considered assisted if you can flick it open. Even worse; any knife that "locks in place" after being flicked is considered illegal. This basically only leaves us to carry gentlemen knives liek swiss army knives. Sometimes to bypass that we have to tighten the pivot screw on our folders so that it doesn't open as smooth/effortlessly (its so sad). If When ever we have to get patted down by a cop we will let them know we do have a knife on our body.
Now a good cop will acknowledge this, see it and let it go, but some cops will take the extra step to hold you on that and claim its illegal to carry it because its a weapon. But even when we take preventative measures for the knife not to easily flick open, they will flick it open by holding the knife by the blade itself and not the handle ( which then naturally open because of the handles weight). Total D**k move!
However the sharkbelly circumvents all of this by 2 features!
1. has a thin thumbhole
2. has a mid lock that allows it to open only half way if flicked open, preventing it to fully open and then lock.

For a New Yorker, its an incredible comfort knowing I can carry a full sized folder with out the worry if the NYPD for whatever reason finds it on me.

Over all, this knife is just awesome, great price point, amazing lightness, and perfect for light EDC use.

  • |BY: , Great value light weight folder

Don't listen to the bad reviews. They kept me from buying the knife for quite awhile. But I really liked the look of the knife. I had to see for myself. This is a great light weight EDC folder. I try to buy American made products as much as possible. The knife came shaving sharp, it's so light I don't even feel it in my pocket. I love the wharncliff blade shape.
The only concern I have is it has no steel liners, but as long as you don't use it as a pry bar it should be fine. If it does break I know Gerber's lifetime warranty will take care of me.
If you were on the fence about this knife, try it out for yourself. I'm very picky about my knifes and it was enough to make me happy for the price I paid. Thank you Gerber for making a American made value of a knife.

I bought this knife fascinated by the product features. I can't be more disappointed! This knife is a total waste of money. The sharkskin grip has ZERO grip. The blade is sharpened horribly, the serrations are not high like in the video and it was sharpened unevenly. The handle has no liners and the blade has huge side to side play also thigtening the pivot screw to the limit. The thumb hole is useless. But above all the lockback has HUGE play and does not feel safe. I hope the seller will refund me, otherwise I think this will be the only knife that I will throw in the garbage.

I love my serrated edge Sharkbelly so much that I bought a second plain edged one. The serrated edge is my work knife and the plain edge is my every day and sometimes hiking knife. This no nonsense knife handles like it was designed by someone that actually uses knives. The steel is nothing sexy but is easy to maintain and takes and holds a decent working edge. I'm finding that I really like the sheepsfoot blade. On top of all that, made in the USA! These things are a bargain.

An ingenious knife, made on the opposite end of my country, Oregon, USA.

I need to tip my hat to Gerber for introducing this incredibly versatile knife.

High quality, extremely affordable, unbelievably light weight, and brandishing the innovative Wharncliffe blade. Personally, I could not be happier.

As an avid pocket knife enthusiast – the kind of person who can never have too many – I have settled on this knife as my every day carry (EDC) unit. To date, it is the simplest, most clever, and just plain enjoyable design I have come across in over 30 years.

While no pocket knife is the best for everything, but this one is best for most everything. It now replaces several other models that I have carried for years – all of which were great in one respect or another, but never as good as this one for just about everything. It is the knife you would choose to be stranded on an island with. I would have named it The Jack of all Trades.

It sounds great, it feels great, it works great. It is what I want on me at all times. It says I am proudly made by exceptionally skilled workers in the United States of America.

Great job, Gerber!

This knife does it all. Lightweight yet full size, very sharp and rugged. This blade is comfortable to carry, to the point that you forget you're wearing it, until you need it. (thanks to the deep carry clip) Only problems I have with this knife is it's stiif to open, especially one-handed. And the blade rusted relatively easily. Other than that though, I would definitely recommend.

I love it it's light it's sturdy and it's sharp only thing I would change is tip up carry and a bigger thumb hole but they are how they are for a reason
I cut through about six feet of good leather and it's not any duller then when I got it I've only used it as an edc but I believe it would be perfect for water based tasks like diving fishing I used to often dive in popular fishing spots and collect all the los lures but I never found a good knife for that what I wanted was folder with a tip that can do some minor prying but can still dig into wood Serrations flexible metal clip and a plastic handle with a stainless blade I always ended up with a throw away knife or one I don't want to get wet this one is perfect

This is a superb little blade. The edge is super long and the flat serrations are like nothing I've ever seen. I really, really dig this.

I bought this knife when I was looking for a new edc. It's an excellent knife. Sharp right out of the box. And I also like the lock back instead of the internal lock. My only issue with the knife is the "sharkskin grip". I expected it to be very solid in my hand and I was disappointed. It seems slippery. Otherwise, this would be a 5 star review

After years of not touching Gerber after bought by Fiskers and knowing the knives made before this had a stellar reputation I thought I would buy this one as it was made in the USA. I am a sucker for this blade shape, so I'll give it a shot. The knife in general is nice and I like it. Unfortunately a dull butter knife gave this a run for it's money. The only part of the blade that was sharp was the serrated section and the main portion of the blade needed to be sharpened out of the package. Even the Chinese made CRKT knives are sharper than this out of the box. Come on Gerber, get your things up to snuff.

My first knife as a child was a gerber 400 lockback. That knife was made in USA and was quality compared to most knives that time. Gerber was a name for quality. In recent years through competition and overseas manufacturing, Quality control has been lacking, fancy designs and shoddy materials have given Gerber a bad name. This knife and a couple others that are made stateside are getting that great reputation back. This knife is solid, easy to open, slim in the pocket . Not to mention very light weight at 2 ounces. This knife would be great for backpacking or throwing in a cycling jersey for a long ride. It arrived shaving sharp and ready to go. I think I will buy a couple of these and may give this to my son as his first lockback.

Love the price for a USA-made knife. Excellent ergonomics and grip. The flat top serrations are an awesome bonus for me. I also like the half stop and the utilitarian blade shape; super nice qualities for such an inexpensive knife.

I only have one complaint: I don't like the way the end of the pocket clip flares out as it loves to get hooked on seatbelts, bags, furniture edges, etc.. A quick bend with my multitool pliers solved this problem in just a few seconds. Aside from that this is an awesome knife.

This has become my go-to work knife. Keep this up Gerber! We want more high quality blades like this!

Lightweight, durable, & made in the USA. All the things I look for in an everyday carry knife. I particularly like the scratch-resistance wire clip that makes it easily accessible anywhere I go. For under $50 bucks, it's a solid buy.
