With an iconic design, the Gator series has become synonymous with craftsmanship and field-tested durability. The full tang construction partners with the patented Gator Grip handle to offer unsurpassed comfort and ease of use.
Maybe you're gonna take it hunting with you. Maybe you're just out living your life in a world where things need to be cut. Whatever you're up to, keep your Gator Fixed blade knife handy. Its famous for its patented Gator Grip handles, which has no peer when it comes to all-out grip.
The inner core of the handle is glass-filled nylon. Then we chemically bonded it to the outer surface, which is molded Santoprene rubber...creating a soft, tactile grip over a very strong structure. All these years later, and no ones topped it.
To tell the truth I haven't made too many cuts with this even though I've had it for 6 years!
But the size is great, it's very solid without being clumsy and the grip is awesome.
Very easy to carry on belt. I like to keep this in good condition as an emergency knife when camping etc because I trust it 100%.
I had this as a deck knife. The best I've had, exposed to salt water all the time never rusted one bit, (of course being stainless but some I've noticed do still rust in my experience stainless or not). Keeps a nice edge for a long time, sharpening just feels good! Dropped her in the drink. Buying another one stat
This knife has skinned-out a lot of deer and keeps its edge from gutting in the field until final cut for the freezer. (With sharpening between kills.) I let a buddy use it to skin a deer and he bought one the next day.
The original sheath developed a problem, so I contacted Gerber to inquire about a replacement. To my surprise, Gerber is sending a replacement free of charge, no questions asked.
I have used Gator knives of one type or another since their debut in 1991. It is hard to imagine a more capable and comfortable knife. I have found them to be quite durable as well. The fixed blade drop point is dimensionally perfect. Not too large, not too small. It excels at most tasks such as processing fish and game to making feather sticks and buttoning ( as long as the wood in question is 3" in diameter or less) to prepping food and cutting up cardboard. Great Gerber 420HC, made in the USA, and at a price most can afford. The perfect utility knife. What's not to like. The only criticism I can offer is the sheath is not ambidextrous. Maybe, Gerber can rectify that in the near future.
Blister pack from hell!! Why Oh why do manufacturers insist on creating these horrible packing schemes?? (Sorry, but I left my chain saw at work, so I could not get into the blister pack!!) Please, Gerber, can't you do better than this type of packaging??? Please???
Otherwise, the knife is just what I had expected.....once I was able to open the pack, that is....
Over all great look, but it is a little long at the handle. It is not so sharp right away but nothing a little sharpening can't fix.
I've had this knife for years and it has never let me down! From cutting meats and potato's for dinner in camp to skinning deer, squirrels and hogs.... it gets it done! The only thing I would change is I would put a drop point like the Freeman Guide. I love the handle in wet conditions it gives more control due to the rubbery grip. over all its a great knife.
Great balance, hard edge. Has seen the inside of 2 elk, 1 pronghorn, and several deer. Couldn't ask for anything more from a belt knife.
I have owned the Fixed Gut Hook, Folding Clip, and theFixed Drop Point . The Gator line of products is by far the best that Gerber puts out. Also own the Gator Saw, and two Gator Fillet knives. Looking forward to the Gator Premium hitting the store shelves! Love Gerber and their warranty!
I got this knife for whatever comes at me from dress dressing game to opening things with it to using it for work. It's GREAT! On top of the great blade it has amazing costumer service behind it! Gerber keep on keeping on!!
Have used this knife for about 10 years deer hunting in the West. Drop point blade and edge has worked great for field dressing and skinning deer. Great quality and overall feel/balance. Sharpens well with a stone. I would recommend this knife for hunting and for general use. Price was even better 10 years ago, but still a good deal.
I carry this knife with me whenever I go into the woods. I mostly use it for field dressing game, large and small. I've had it for over seven years now, and it is holding up well. Highly recommend it.
got this knife for christmas from my awesome brother! loving it, had it outdoor lots and is really holding up well! i think this is a product i will have for years to come!
As the title says, the best hunting knife a man can buy, I've owned mine for over 10 years and love it. Gutted several animals with it, never rusts, blood wipes off clean, doesn't pit, and stays sharp. Plus the grip gets sticky when there is blood on your hands, nice to know it isn't easy to slip out of your hands.
The shortest distance between two points is a straight line and the most rational answer to most questions is often the simplest. This knife places all extravagance aside and completes the job. Many commentators express a want for a longer blade but do not consider the consequences or rationalize the need. With a full, truly ergonomic handle and shorter heavier blade this knife provides ample leverage with incredible edge retention. If your priority is looking tough or cool, buy something else. If you want a tool on your hip that answers questions, buy a Gerber fixed Drop Point.
I agree with other reviews- it is a great blade, the handle is very comfortable, but I also with the blade was more like 5.5 inches instead of 4"
I think you should provide one more Gator like this excellent one, but with only slightly longer blade. 5,5" with flat ground would be marvelous.
I've used the Gator models enough to know they fit well in the hand perfectly. I used a folding gut hook model last year on a couple critters and it held it's edge as good as the rest. I would like to see these offered with an optional leather sheath. All my Gerbers (And I own alot!) come with a nylon sheath and they all wear way too fast for me.
Ive had this knife for around 4 years and all around its great. if you have small hands i can see how the handle might be big. Ive cleaned a lot of big game with this and it can do anything, moose fur seems to be its only weakness, but thats pretty much any knifes weakness. great for anything else, perfect size.
i have had this knife for about 4 years using it for hunting and camping cuts right throw bone, thick branches, keeps its edge very well, has never rusted and its been throw some very wet conditions and the grip has not even worn down a hole lot neither, so in other words its been throw its passes for sure. love this knife and will come back for more gerber knifes
when i purchased this knife it was wicked sharp. after a month of making traps and cutting twine, gutting small game and batoning with this blade it held up!. I can still shave with it. handle is kinda big and bulky but comfortable. gets slick when bloody but overall good knife
the only word that comes to mind when i describe this knife is awesome
great job Gerber
P.S this knife is full tang just to clarify things
Great camp knife. Love the handle (excellent grip) but I wish it was full tang. Perfect size but I find the blade dulls too quickly if I use it to clean large game. Something with better edge retention would be worth the extra cost but still great valu
