Field dress an animal using the Vital Zip tool to virtually unzip its cape. The well adapted structure of its cutting area prevents inadvertent puncturing of the stomach, intestines, or bladder, affording its users confidence as they work. A super-efficient slicing tool that makes the most of its simple design and sturdy construction, the Vital Zip holds a high carbon stainless steel utility blade that’s easily replaced once dull with a quick release of the Phillips screw holding the blade in position.
Built for hunters and public services people, this tool is a must-have for fast, nimble cutting action. The Vital Zip works well as a box opener tool, for cutting webbing and rope, and to remove clothing from injured persons in rescue situations. Its handle is an intelligent configuration of holes and finger notches that slides onto the fingers, coming to rest intuitively inside the palm for a solid, confident grip. Included in the Vital Zip’s sheath is a utility blade two-pack for easy swapping out once the current blade is spent.
I bought a vital zip a few years back to speed up the field dressing of a moose. Well, last fall I finally got to try it out on a 44" bull. It worked like a hot darn for a while, but then proceeded to break when the "zipping" of the hide was about 3/4 done.
Gerber, MAKE IT TOUGHER!
I got the Vital Zip last year just before Colorado 2nd season. I got to use it the first time on a bear. Greatly exceeded my expectations and was easy to take apart to clean.
Blade is really sharp out of the box. Be careful though, it can send you to the Emergency Room easily. 4 stitches later, I'm still loving the knife
I have prior version with 2 fingers rings. It worked amazingly well. However.. the screw to hold-in the razor blade just now stripped on me. I wanted to replace the blade as it became a rusty while sitting. Now this tool is useless with that stripped screw. Did they put freakin' thread-lock on this thing? I'm really good at backing out screws carefully so as to prevent stripping. Just could NOT do it in this case. Tiny little screw and they must of tightened the heck out of it at the factory. So now I have a worthless device.
It is funny. I have done about 15 animals without changing a blade works awesome it just zips with ease. Only think is sometimes it seams to bind and not go. I feel it is in my technique but can figure out how?????but for 20$ it has kept a lot of hair and guts out of our meat, saved time and knife sharpening.
Like Mr. Mankie, I would like ot know when this product will become available. As an avid moose hunter, this will become a toll of choice for making the cuts for gutting and or caping the extremely tough moose hides.
I would like to know when the vital zip will be avaiable? I have been useing the e-z zip for years and they have brooken. I have gone through 3 of them and just bought my fourth and saw the life time warrenty. Also is the vital zip going to be more durable? Will it hold up to the winter hunting tempetures in the north east?
