Great knife. Durable and totally worth the money. But you can get it cheaper somewhere else
Very good knife in general i use it for survival like building shelter, etc. I love the balance of the knife that make wood choppping significantly easier. The blade keep her sharpeness the sheat and the accessorie (fire starter, sharpener) are simple to use and durable. 5/5
One of my favorite knives. Holds a nice edge and has a sturdy feel in my hand. Fire steel works like a charm.
This is an great knife. One thing I was a little annoyed with was that I had a hard time putting the Priorities of Survival Pocket Guide into the pocket on the back of the sheath, but that's not such a big deal. I think the knife maybe should have had a easier to use sharpener. Other wise this is an excellent knife well done Gerber and B.G.!!
tis a wonderful knife very strong I also like how it locks and bear grilles and gerber have been the best knife brand ever thank you so much
a bit to expensive lower like 10$
i love it
It's a good knife. If you pay the $62 here for it you are a fool because you can get it elsewhere for 20 dollars cheaper. In the forty dollar range of knives you will be happy with it. The flint works darn well, and the knife is sturdy. Maybe they had issues with the first run, but mine is good to go.
im only 12 and I seen bear grylls and he is awesome. when I got this it just satisfied my needs
Bear your oltamate survival knife workes so good when you cut small branches and it the best knife I have used in years I will trade my pocket knife for the gerber oltimate survival knife thank you Bear
Good kife. Make sure the fire starter is on all the way
I got this last july and its so amazing!
I carried a Gerber BMF in the field for 26 years and it always performed as the situation demanded. After much consideration, I retired it and bought this knife as a replacement. I have no regrets. This knife has no shortcomings. It is very practical in size and amenities. the blade is of good quality alloy, sharpens well and holds its edge under normal use and even abuse. The serrations are a useful addition and good design. The handle is ergonomic and allows the knife to be used in all manners comfortably, it has an excellent textured non slip rubberized surface. The striker rod is of good quality and makes fires easily, and lasts for many uses without prematurely thinning. The hard sheath is excellent as is the nylon sheath, both well thought out and constructed, especially the knife retaining latch on top of the sheath. The diamond hone on the back of the sheath dresses the blade well and has lasted many uses. All stitching, nylon and velcro are good quality. I can wholeheartedly recommend this knife to anyone for anything. It is top shelf with no disappointments. I have seen videos of people pounding these through 12"' pieces of firewood and hammering the pommel brutally, until failure occurred. No knife is made to perform like a hammer or axe although watching these videos, this knife held up where most knives I own would never have come close for many times the price. I have owned many high grade knives by big names in the field and Bear's Ultimate has performed with the best of them. My only recommendation is to tie a short piece of para cord from the sheath to the ferro rod to prevent loss, other than that zero complaints. I can easily see Bear's Ultimate knife lasting the quarter century my BMF lasted. Thanks Bear for such a well thought out and constructed field tool. Best regards, Moose in Minnesota, USA
yes i bought it and only used it in my back yard then the fire starter fell out i do not apreciate this as i did not use it for any large tasks or battoning and it fell out going to get 2 mor 1 for my lmf 2 and one for my bg ultimate knife also think about getting the ultimate pro if you read me reveivw
I recently purchased this knife and it has taken plenty of abuse. While I was camping I was able to start my fire collect firewood build my shelter and made a snare using the pocket guide so all I can say is wow.
sweet knife!just bought it three days ago.very satisfied, with the knife.I'm also a BIG man vs wild fan!I give it 5 stars! Thanks Gerber.
i was recently in a situation where i only had what was in my ruck and this knife may have saved me from cold weather and hunger. it helped in many ways hunting a rabbit and cooking it for food(not recomended for taste to eat the heart). very good knfe and very reliable!
Bought this knife a couple months ago. So far, very happy. I've successfully started a fire and did some light batoning with oak and maple. I also chopped through two 2" maple branches with great ease. Through all of that the blade stayed sharp and was very comfortable to use. It does have a few flaws, mainly being made in China, but overall very good for the price (bought it on Walmart.com $50).
This is a very good knife good for starting fires, hunting, and camping. You can get it online at SMKW.com for $30.00.
Well, what I have to say about this knife is it is a pretty good sized blade! I have tooken it out in the woods and started a fire pretty easy with it and have sawed a little tree down and made an a framed shelter with it!! i totally recommend it totally!
great knife, love the thickness and the good handle..
This knife has it all. Bells, sharpener, hammer and a WHISTLE. Alright let me get into this knife...again. I recently switched to Gerber from Cold Steel cause of several factors but the main factors are the fact that Gerber listens to its buyers, makes very comfortable handles and puts a lot of thought into their blade making process. While it is true the knife can come in sharper out of the box I would assume that mot people would have either learned how to properly sharpen their blades or already know how to. So that was not an issue with me.
On a different trip I took my BG Ultimate Survival knife into the Amazon jungle to teach another class. What I found was astonishing to say the least. After spearing several fish, lighting several fires or in some cases attempted to before I went and made a fire saw with the knife due to the humidity, and made several shelters I found that that blade not only held its sharper edge I gave it but also didn't rust. Yes I use mineral oil to prevent that, BUT OILING YOUR BLADE SHOULD BE GIVEN!
The only thing that wore out slightly was the fire steel. But Gerber understands this and has replacements ready to go as mine came in very quickly. Oh and I got two decals too!
My final thought on this blade are this. It's simple, easy to use, easy to access, easy to stow, trust worthy and yes the pommel is a great hammer and IT DIDN'T BREAK. My only concern is the belt loop. It held but its located in a less than desirable place. The stitching can scratch your skin. But that was taken car of using an extra strap so it can quickly be placed on a belt to prevent this. I own several Gerber knives some BG and many are not. They all have one thing in common. THEY WORK AND THEY WORK EXTREMELY WELL! Thank you Gerber for keeping me and my students alive.
This knife WORKS WONDERS... i got it for a pack of smokes. Cuts right trough shoes.
the knife is way to dull and wont stray sharp not worth the money
well used it one time cutting para-cord and than to notch out a 2x4 needles to say the serrated teeth are no longer there. so for a $60 knife with alot of hype I would say it is a a great straight blade knife but poorly engineered.
Got this knife for Christmas and I must say its a great knife. Nice feel straight forward design good edge retention great knife for the outdoor person looking for a fixed blade knife for hiking, camping, etc that want kill your wallet and is made by a major player in the knife world that stands by it products. Overall nice size good blade thickness and good sheath.
I got the knife a few days ago but didn't have the chance to use it till today . i liked the fire starter and the sheath, the knife was OK but after a few min of use the serrated edge was gone when trying to cut a 1 inch birch tree (i guess ill resharpen it and take the serrated edge out completely)
this knife is really good but the sharpener is not the best
Cuts down trees 4 inches wide crazy knife amazingly sharp
exelent knif for the price.
pro : blade
Rubber Grip
Whistle
Sheath
Fire Starter
Sharpener = will do the jobe if you dont have an other.
con : Stainless Steel Pomme for hammering =since it is not full tang design and if you use it to hammer it will break like mine
This knife is great. Im only thirteen but know my way around the wilderness and after buying and trying this knife I found it had everything I need for basic survival. All though my whistle did come off its string and the blade is marked and scratched quiet easily.other than that nothing but good things to say. The serration is very sharp and durable.
If you can buy this knife do it
it was the best knife i have ever had the flint was amazing and i loved it
This knife is great for bushcraft. It is my secondary blade, the primary being the camilis carnivore machete (great machete). Highly reacomended.
I have been collecting knives for a long time my first knife was a Gerber mark11 dated to 1983. I love this new BG Ultimate knife, and I am tired of the nay sayers and all the torture test diehards saying this knife is not good enough to depend on in a life threatening situation. Any savvy knife enthusiast cares for his precious tools instead of subjecting them to ridiculous extremes. I like many of you here would never get caught in the wild or in remote area with just one knife to depend on. I myself carry a Gerber Multiplier and 4in pocket knife every day and if was going to travel anywhere I throw a 6-8 fixed blade in my bag and another in my car plus a camp axe and military shovel.
My travel bag consists of one 6-9 Bowie, 4in pocket knife Gerber multiplier, Gerber tree saw, Gerber camp axe. I don’t ever see myself cutting down a tree with my BG Ultimate Knife. But I like the idea that I could if I ever had too. Thanks Gerber for another nice knife.
I bought this knife and its been very good but feels kinda small compared to my LMF 2 but the fire steel works great and sharpener works too. the only thing i would add to this would be a lanyard for the fire steel i have already replaced it twice! Overall great knife!!!
it's an awesome knife the best one Ive ever own, but I'm thinking of upgrading to the fine edge version of this knife because i was bush crafting with it and one of the serrations broke off but it cut through a 2by4 easily. very good blade.
It's a great knife but I think the fire steel should be more secure. It's fallen out twice.
The knife works amazing on skining deer and outher stufff i love it
i only have one problem with the knife the fire starter should be placed the other way so it doesn't get caught or snagged on anything and fall out other than that the knife is amazing it is well built and has many uses
i love how the para cord has the whistle incorporated into the design.i also like the wet stone sharpener. the knife has proven to be very practical.
i love how the para cord has the whistle incorporated into the design.i also like the wet stone sharpener. the knife has proven to be very practical.
couldnt ask for a better nice honestly, first off starting with the knife. its extremely well balanced, feels nice to grip and hold. has a freakin hammer on the handle! ingenious! comes with whistle, diamond knife sharpener on the back of the case. and there's tons of other stuff. the sheath and fabric holder are really nicely built, I've noticed other people saying they've had problems with them like their knife or fire starter falling out, i haven't had a problem at all with that. every time i use it i find a new use for it, and something new about it. worth every dime.
good job Gerber. 10/10
The knife is great! The one thing I hate about the knife is the sheath. It looks cheap. Gerber please make a better sheath for the knife. A friend of mine bought the knife and the sheath started to break after a week. Thats the reason I have not bought my own knife. The sheath does not look good at all with the knife in my opinion. I like the survival instructions on the back, fire starter, and the whistle. I would have given the knife a five, but the sheath needs improvement. Also can you make a black version for the knife. I understand that orange stands out in the wild, but if you are a soldier the last thing you want is to be spotted.
I just got my knife today and absolutely love it. It has a quality and substantial feel to it. The fire starter is easy to use and works wonderfully. I have already used it for multiple cut, sawing, and pounding purposes. It has withstood remarkablely well to abuse. The sheath is also well built and relatively light weight. The only complaint I have is that the instruction manual doesn't fit in the pocket. I look forward to using this as a camping and hunting tool for many years to come.
This knife lives up to its name, im going to put it away in a emergency backpack and bring it along for outdoor excursions. After reading comments about how the serrated edge breaks, and the fire starter doesnt stay in it's slot on the sheath.i've come to the conclusion that This knife is not meant for everyday use or even recreational use its meant for survival situations, so im just going to pack it up and use it when i really need it, you can tell just by holding it that its a knife you can rely on, its a survival knife it shouldnt be used unless you really need it.. i know this knife works so im not going to go out and start cutting branches and 2x4's , or go and start fires with the flint. im going to wait and use it when i really need it , in a survival situation, i'll use my other knives when i go fishing, camping, hunting, etc.. and just pack it with . hopefully i will never have to use it.
the whistle is a great idea and the pommel is a bonus because it makes the knife a double sided threat in self defense situations. the blade reflects sun well also . and the pocket survival guide that comes with is extremely useful. This knife comes dull (most do) i ran it across my finger and it didnt even break the skin, but once its sharpened using a stone (not the diamond sharpener on the back of the sheath) its deadly. If i could have one item with me in a sticky situation it'd be this knife. Great buy , reasonable price, i recommend this product to anybody who wants a reliable knife, it really is an ultimate knife. Thankyou Gerber and Bear Grylls for developing a great knife. I love it!! ignore the 1 star comments!!!
GREAT knife! Def. a great buy for your outdoor adventurous person in your life. Just go the knife, but based on their hunting knives GERBER BEAR has one if not the top best selling survival knives!
fit comfortably in the hand. easy to use. contoured grip does not allow the hand to slide around. it is light. the blade is very sturdy, full tang. sheath is nice with both horizontal and vertical belt loops, great for MOLLI straps.
Just received the knife for Christmas...... LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!
One of the best survival knives with its big brother being the Gerber LMF II acek this is a great design, and has been tested by Bear Grylls in some of the most extreme environments. I have also used it in many extreme environments and it has not let me down!!! Great knive gerber!!!
I purchased this knife in October 2011 and never had any issues with it, whatsoever. This knife has met and exceeded all my expectations for a knife.
And, my previous knife was a folding Ray Applegate (Gerber) knife. I miss that knife every day and cannot believe I lost it. The BG ultimate survival knife is awesome and anyone who criticizes this knife clearly has no idea what they are trying to talk about.
However, my only issue is I did lose my tangs attached fire starter in the bush this past summer, but that's no biggy and ordered a replacement..
I do not go anywhere without my BG Ultimate Survival knife and is extremely handy..
Very good knife. One of my favorites. But the fire starter needs to be lanyard to the sheath, because I lost the my fire starter hunting this year.
would love to see this knife have a sturdier sheath and have the nylon sheath have two vertical loops instead of just one
This knife is great it's durable it's got the basic tools you need to survive and it's a powerful knife
very nice knife. is a good all perpous knife. they need to make a Bear Grylls backpack or raccksack.
Nice knife but I would like to see a thicker blade like the M-90.
My Navy SEALS MK II har more surface on the back then the average hammer and twice as much as the BG knife
Other then that it good but I always use my MK-II knife
Bob
Great knife, has all basic tools you need to survive in the outdoors.
This knife definatley has the right to call its self the ''Ultimate Survival Knife''. It was razor sharp out of the box. Ive batoned, hammered, made tinder, started fires, thrown it, chucked it at plywood, Skinned animals, and ive gotta tell you, its definatley held up. I would recomend this knife to hunters, fishers, and people who are outdoorsmen. Good knife for the price!
This is a overall great knife. It is crazy sharp and very tough. If you want to skin an animal, get a hunting knife. But if you want a knife that woks for everything and does it amazingly, get this knife. I love it. You might too.
My local Academy has this knife for $50! That is an absolute steal!! I am an outdoors man, and if I can only take one tool with me, it's this one. So much for your money it's unreal. Great Survival knife period.
The serrations are weak, for a survival knife.
great knife i chopped through a 4x4" in minutes fire starter works easily and this knife throws within 7' excellent tool
Im in the Marine Corps and have had this knife for a while now. I love it. The only thing i would change is the colors. I cannot carry it on my vest because of the colors. I wish they made the same thing but cammo.
I bought this knife because of the absolute need to see for myself if it was as bad as some say or as good as others claim. Well, this knife has passed the test. I have beat this knife up! I have chopped with it, battonned with it, skinned with it, hammered with it and abused it like a beast. Folks, this knife has handled everything I have dished out. This is a great knife. My son wants a belt knife for when we go camping, and this is the one he is getting. Great job Gerber.
want is a tang or a full tang
the serrations broke while sharpening.
Does this knife have a full tang?
no, the serrations broke because of an accident while sharpening, and the serrations broke, because i sharpened it the wrong way and applied too much pressure, causing the serrations to break.
Heh John Rambo, why did you return a knife because it was getting dull, you don't know how to sharpen it? The knife rocks!
I am going to buy this knife because the dexterity seems quite great, i also like the looks.
this knife is AWESOME i had it for about a month before returning it because it was getting dull and the color comes off way too easy, but its a pimp lookin knife overall
I`ve put this knife through numerous tasks and I can honestly say that I`ve beaten this knife up quite a bit and it is still going strong. Excellent knife Gerber.
I don't know what the people that are saying bad things about this knife are talking about because this knife is the best knife your ever going to get
its absouluty awesome blade holds well has everthing you want in the wild only problem the fire steelwers down quick overall awesome
This is a great knife at an excellent price. I bought one for my wife to have with her when we go up to the mountains here in Colorado thinking it was a "cute" knife.
But I have to say I am very impressed with the quality and the abuse i've put it through. This is definitely no toy. It feels good in the hand and with the fire starter included in the sheath makes for an excellent tool for anyone to carry while outdoors. I was also impressed with the quality of the sheath and the built in sharpener is an excellent addition.
Great job on this one Gerber!
Looks great, sturdy, stays sharp, colours are great for keeping track of the knive. Firestarter works great. Hope it lasts
Im going to get one pretty soon and I have expectations for it. I need it to do good for all of the pack trips I do with my family.
I am very impressed with this knife . very universal, and rugged. I works great from skining and elk to building a fire to hammering a nail or a stake. I love it and the price is very reasonable I have much more expensive knifes I dont like nearly as well.
SUP bear grylls i love your suvive demonstrations on tv. YOU GROWL!!!! bear grylls. :)
I got this knife about a year ago for my 72 hour pack for my civil air patrol unit. My instructor recommended the knife if we could not afford the the lmf 2 knife, plus it had a good fire steel and an all purpose sharpener. The serrations on the blade are ok for adding the use as a saw for cutting wood, bone, or wire. I have dug, cut meat, wood. And it held up pretty good it can cut wood for shelter, and fire wood. I was happy to see a replacement for the fire steel which can light damp tinder. The only problem I had wad if I had the knife on my side an it flops around if I am running I would like gerber to add a led strap on it. I would recommend putting some para cord or a strip of leather in the little hole that attaches to scabbard to the sheath. Other than that it is. A great knife for the price.
I don't have this knife yet but I am getting it soon but a lot of these reviews are saying that serrations on a survival knife is bad. Not true at all serrations on a knife are very important in you are surviving and you fined a pice of rope that is thick serrations are good for cutting if you catch wild game cutting through flesh you need serrations and I have found that in my knives I have stations help me out with a lot of different things.
Knife has nice wt. And feels good but i guess if i was designing i would make it 8" long with a wider blade ie wider in the front
Other tben that its a very fit and capable blade.
This is a good knife and great deal. I have used it very extensively and aggressively, with no problems at all. Works well for appropriate bushcraft jobs. The blade is strong, thick and durable. The pommel is brutal and can drive nails and break glass like a champ. Don't judge this knife on your like of Bear Grylls or his shows. This is a quality knife at a great price.
i got this knife last year for Christmas and i tell u what it is built to last i did all u can think to this knife ive thrown it at trees and can stick it in 75% of the time ive started fires with the flint and made like 15 traps all ready and its all good the case is ok but wish they made a case that when u put the knife in and it sharpness it ive even mounted it to a stick and went wild-boor hunting and a pig charged me and i killed it by stabbing it in the skull
best ever
I am a big Bear Grylls fan, so decided to buy this knife. I m a survival enthusiast so this is the perfect knife ! Bought it today on a local store and not only it is beautiful, but it has great quality. I ll buy other products from Gerber/Bear Grylls now !
I have one and it is awesome !!!
this is a great knife but does have one flaw that i really do not like. And that is that ti doesn't keep sharp. I can get it so sharp that it takes the hair off of my legs and after using it, it is some what dull. the whistle does have a bad original placement but that can easily be moved else where. over all you need to know how to properly sharpen a knife
super knife......
pretty good knife. skinned a few rabbits, gutted a few fish and deer with it. overall very usefull knife
Great for hiking/camping, solid build rubber grip is great. I started a fire in the second strike with the fire starter that gives huge sparks. Gerber did it.
I`m your fan
I like you.
THIS PRODUCT IS AMAZING
You should write more about: how to recognize original Bear Grylls Ultimate.
I had two of them and i don't know which one was original. They were totally diferent.
i love this knife so much its the best knife i have gotten for such a low price i highly recommend this knife.
Great Knife. If you ever need it, this knife will help you stay alive with ease. Making a fire is simple....If you use a whistle rather than screaming you can sustain yourself in survival conditions.....always being able to sharpen your blade is an extreme bonus...The hammer on the handle is perfect for small jobs /busting open walnuts/ hammering down tent spikes, killing animals. The grip feels great in your hands and the whole system is light too! All around a great product with a LIFETIME WARRANTY!! What else can you ask for?
Thanks Gerber,
X - Navy Seal
I love this knife, best survival knife ever One down side is the string with the whistle should be a bit bigger so you can fit your hand inside just in case you drop the knife it won't leave your hand. Besides that one downfall, hands down best survival knife ever!
Such a great knife... very innovative plus with all the other freebies that you get with it.
The name truly does say it all. Amazing over all survival tool. It's loaded with very useful features. Draw backs, it does need to be sharpened upon purchasing but big deal, it only takes a couple minutes to do, and if you can't sharpen a knife you have no business with a knife like this and will probably never need to use its full potential. It has a comfortable grip and the ergonomics are good but not great. The handle could use a couple grooves for better spear making, like the LMF Infantry Knife.
this is a well rounded knife I would recommend. Look if you plan on framing a house with the handle, buy a hammer, If you plan on cutting down a tree buy a saw. It serves it's self as a survival knife, very well. I have switched from the SOG. gerber and Grylls have come on to some thing it has a great design and i cut,dig and all kinds of other good things with mine.
I bought this knife after I got out of the Marines, as I spent a lot of time in the woods during deer season, and I like to canoe, camp, and hike. The knife is well balanced. I've actually hammered in tent stakes with the pommel. The rape whistle on it is useless (inside joke). I took it off first thing, forseeing issues with its placement. The fire starter works well if you've got good tinder (and if you can't make good tinder, then you're an idiot.). I put it through pretty rough use, and the grey finish is coming off, but that's to be expected, as a survival knife doesn't have to be pretty, it just has to do its job. The blad does dull a little faster than I'd like, but not nearly as quickly as some of the people here are saying. (Maybe they should get a proper knife sharpening kit for up keep when they're not using it). It's not Gerber's most durable survival knife, (see LMF II Survival) but does well enough for almost half the price. I would recommend this to anyone who isnt some sort of hardcore survivalist and just enjoys hunting and the outdoors. Hell, I would have carried it with me in country and just wrapped the handle in coyote grip tape if I had bought it earlier.
To Logan Crooks, "Boy Scout.": As someone who has actually been in the military, it is definitely military grade (the standards in the military aren't that high). And if you had to stop doing v-cutting and batoning while using it, it's because you have weak, delicate hands, not because the knife is poorly made. Also, if your knife is dulling that quickly, try sharpening at the correct angle. That tends to help.
i use two knives the most. my KA-Bar and my Gerber BG. the Gerber is a good value and so far it has held up well on my camping/survival trips.
Awesome knife for the price, great look and the way it wears just makes it look more BA.
best survival knife i have ever owned, sharp as hell and the whistle is really fun to annoy people with haha.
Best knife since LMF II
Think of the meaning of survival. One word for this knife. Cheap. Cheaply made, cheap metal and the tool does not endure.
I purchased this knife even thou I have many other excellent survival knives. Thought that I looked cool. But I found that the hammer on the handle is just a simple shell and comes off very easily. The little whistle that come with it is not very loud either. I gave it to my girlfriend since she doesn't need to hammer with a knife. Sticking with my SOG Seal Team Elite.
1 word.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
It's Bear Gryll's, do you think he uses a knife in the wilderness? Of course not. It's meant to dull fast to give you people who can't survive without a knife more of a challenge.
Nice well balanced I back pack and hike a lot this is ideal. Good job gerber and nice design bear.
there is only one problem with this knife and that is the serations they are to weak i love almost everything about the knife dont get me wrong but even just sawing wood and rope and the teeth break of i think the fine edge version would be far better
This knife is durable big and worth every cent I payed for it, It is the best knife ever!
hell yea
best knife Ive ever owned in my life
amazing knife love the serations and spear holes.
I really like the knife, the design and ideas behind it are great. Problems I had with the knife are the poor quality of steel for the blade (dulls way too fast ), I think the fire starter should be flipped upside down so it doesn't fall out, and I really wish the sheath had more loops on it for more carrying options. Overall, I think it is a great knife, and I hope they continue to improve it, they have a good start.
Best knife that I have ever owned, from the fire starter to the built in wistle, blade sharpener, and hammer this is the ultimate survival knife. Worth the money.
GOOD
i can sharpen it razor sharp and then right after that its not even sharp
We just bought this knife. Having it in hands gives even more conviction that we bought the right one. :-)
knife is amazing. no flaws. fire starter is awesome! you really get it
Cheap, cheap, cheap... That should say enough about the rest of it. Although $60 is still a rip off. Good luck guys!
Ilove this knive its really a ultimate knive.
I love this knife. I took it to an outdoors gear store and the guy there assisted me in setting up a system so I can have it secured to my shoulder strap with two sided velcro strapping for easy access when I need it. Peace of mind is nice to have when out there alone and knowing you have a knife not only for self defence, but for fire, signalling for help and the capability to sharpen the blade when needed.
amazing
best knife ever its perfect for ripping open a rabbit
ive owned this knife for a little over 9 months now and i still use it a few times a week. after awhile i had the same problem with the serrations chipping like everyone has. i used a chainsaw file to fix this, i also removed the grey looking finish on the knife and added a clear finish to the blade. definitely a great knife.
i m getting this knife friday,it is awesome the only reason i gave it 4 stars is because the fire starter is useless with at tinder so i wish it had a place to put tinder
I have owned it for about 4 months now and I use it every weekend. I use it to cut firewood, filet fish and split larger pieces of wood by batoning it and it hasn't let me down. It's tough as nails! But, the sheath is a disaster! It won't fit my wide camping belt, and there is no option to carry it "scout" style.
This knife is called the Ultimate Knife for a reason. It is well built and extremely durable. I read some reviews for problems with the construction of the knife but have never encountered any in the year I have owned this knife. I bring this knife on every trip I go on and it has proved its worth. Yet I wanted to test this knife in its extreme. I brought it on a week canoeing trip with me in the Canadian wilderness, where the knife encountered bushwhacking, fish gutting, and constant use. Even though when hiking in neck deep mud the fire starter fell out and I was pretty disappointed, I contacted the Warranty Team and they gave me a new one and responded within a day of my email. You can't beat that kind of service. Cons would be it needs larger drainage ports in the bottom of the sheath and i think the flint should face up but you can fix that buy just tying some p-cord to it. This knife is great and I have already recommended it to a couple friends who have bought it and love it. This is well worth the money if you come in contact with a survival situation.
This is the best survival knife I have seen so far. I am not a Bear Grylls fan but this knife is a great design and when my hand is on it you can't see the big BG on the side.
awesome
Very impressed with the knife, holds a really sharpe edge. The handle fits very nice in your hand. Would recommend this to anyone..
I've brought this knife on many camping and back packing trips and find the knife its self to be very dependable. However, out of the package it was not very sharp and I find it hard to put a decent edge on it and does not hold an edge well either. The sheath is terrible. The clip that holds the knife in place broke after I fell once. The flint fell out of its slot many times and so I don't lose it I had to attach some nylon cord and fasten it to the sheath. The survival packet that comes with it does not fit in its designed slot and undid the top part of the stiching when I tryed to put it in.
I have seen the knife and wanted it. And, when I got it, i was very amazed.
I am a Venturer in scouting.... i would love this.. it is amazing
My brother got me the the knife and parang for christmas and i immediately put them both to use. The Parang is ideal for quickly clearing a path through thick underbrush like thorns and oversized plants , it also can cut through sizeable firewood. The knife is very useful and reliable, though the serrations can be limiting in some situations. I found that the two work best as a pair in survival situations.
perfect top super brilliance a good buy it has a fire starter a sharpener a whistle a stomper and can be a spear no wonder it was the best selling knife of 2011 100% designed by bear grylls i would recommend to every one get this knife from scouts to home to military great buy and a super grip well done bear grylls and gerber
I think gerber should have teamed up with buck knives to make this knife. Gerber could have been in charge of the design, buck couldve made the blade itself, using 420 HC stainless steel, and had there heat treatment company (Bos) heat treat it. Wouldve been a harder steel, sharper, hold and edge longer, and easier to sharpen. Then they could have made it in the USA. Wouldve been a better knife that way. I like the knife a lot the way it is but i think my idea would make for a better knife.
really nice knife , use it alot, sharpener isn't great but does the job, firesteel and sheath is very nice, i like the serrations
This is one of my favorite knives highly recomend it.
This is the best survival knife i have ever seen and used before. I take this knife everywhere, other than school of course, but if i was stuck in a survival situation, i would count on this knife to save my life. This knife also has a lot of features on it that can be really usefull at times. Gerber, this is the best knife you have ever made so far. And also, Bear Grylls rocks!!
I have just bought the knife not huge fan of BG after meeting him 3 times (coincidence) But the knife i bought for the knife. Very good for all what i need it for.
This is the best knife to take outdoors in my opinion. If i was stuck in a survival situation I would trust this knife to save my life. Good job Gerber, and Bear... you are the best!
This knife is so comfortable i your hand and the knives blade and pomel perform to the max and this knife is super strong it is like industructabale the. Sheath is great to the sharpener u amaZing ut made my knife raOr sharp the fire starter works awsome cotton balls with nail polish remover on them make exelent tender to lite a fire
took this knife on a trip into the wilderness three days with only some trap and a knife each. my friend had a knife from Sweden 200$ mine works better on anything my friend just went out and bought one
This Knife is not as durable as you think, the paint coating is wearing off in areas that I never have batoned with. I put this Knife through admittedly hard-use as that is what it is meant for. The Straight-edge on this Knife dulls VERY quickly and the grip near the guard although extremely grippy is chipping after some hard batons. On a positive note, the Serrations work fantastic and are not dull at all. The Whistle is extremely loud and I mean extremely. The Whistle even compares with the FOX 40 SOLAS approved Rescue Whistle! However, the placement on the handle is really jacked-up, I mean this thing swings around every which way and whips the back of your hand while V-cutting, making it sting. The grip is extremely grippy, but I seem to get more blisters on this blade than a standard KA-BAR. On even moderate batons I get A LOT of vibration to the point where I have to stop for a little while and pick back up again. The Fire Starter does work very well, but not to the point of the PRO-FORCE line of Fire Steels and it's bigger Bear Grylls Fire Starter brother. Military Grade Sheath my butt. The Nylon Sheath is absolute Crap! It's too stiff, is not lightweight and by no means is Military Grade, if it was Military Grade than it would be made out of Berry Compliant Cordura with Type "E" Stitching. Maybe North Korean Military Grade. The Freebee Survival Instructions are moderately useful but not comprehensive and barely water-resistant. On the other hand, the Land to Air Rescue Instructions are very useful. The Diamond Sharpener does work. I really, really like the Pommel, I cracked through 2 and a half inch Ice in the Winter with no problems. However, if the Pommel is used on almost anything other than Ice, than particles get caught in the checkered grates on the face. It batons great but the Steel on this Knife is absolute Crap! The steel rusts and doesn't have ideal edge retention as advertised. I truly like the Colorations, but am not always a fan of the BG Brand marking. Lastly, Made in China!
This knife is incredible. It's incredibly durable with the best grip that I have seen on a knife. The sharpener and fire starter are extremely useful as well. Just a great knife!
I saw the Ultimate Survival Knife on his programe and wanted one from then (very clever free advertising!). Its as good as it apears on TV and I,ve never, ever had such a solid strong knife! Well done.

This is a great knife and sheath. The blade is sharp the edge is great for cutting rope and many other things. This knife has saved my hide and kept my boat from getting caught up in bad weather. Im a Technician an use this blade on many things like cutting hose, plastic, rope, and when im out on a lake run it does its fair share of work. i have had many blade break and fail on me as well as fall apart while on rough trips on motorcycles or boats or cars from bad terrain. this is money well spent and recommend for hardcore users. The sheath is excellent , I've had many sheaths fall apart, tear, fade, and lack in holding a knife in place. This is important for safety and losing a knife is the worst.
i was a little hesitant on buying it because of all the issues with the pommel, but wow is this ever a great knife, lightweight, great sheath, but the stone for sharpening is a little course
it is durable and i started a few fires with the fire steal.
The best survival knife gerber has made so far!!!!!
Im not a huge fan of bear grylls, but gerber sure can make a knife. I've seen probably 30 or more scouts with bear grylls's knife. So I'm willing to overlook the BG on the knife.
it is a very good knife its so strong and it has a great grip
i used this knife quite a bit and the thought behind it is great but the steel needs to be a little harder and it has a little rust on the blade and the teath has broken off on it. i think that it shouldn't have serrated edges on a survival knife, to brittle and hard to sharpen
First of all, I have been working with this knife for a while and had no failure.
However, the blade was not sharp out of the package and I had to sharpen it.
I had no problems with the serrations and find them useful.
The blade doesn't hold an edge for a long time. After about an hour carving wood, I had to resharpen it (hopefully the blade is easy to resharpen).
I didn't use the sharpening tool provided with the knife which I find is too coarse.
The handle grip is great but the ergonomics of the handle could be improved : the bump (guard) on top of the handle is in the way when you put your thumb on top of the blade -> make it difficult to ca
I could light a fire using the "fire steel"
$62 worth? I don't think so but you can buy for much cheaper. What do you get? You get what you pay for... Basically not much quality at all.
This is a good knife, sharp and strong, but the only down side is my belt loop on the sheath is tight, which limits the places i can put it on my gear other than a thin belt.
also, i would not pay that much for this knife, even though its good quality, i got mine
at bjs in a combo pack with the basic kit for
only 40!!!!!
great buy then
This knife is great for cutting i split my thump with it but the serrated teeth brake off but that is the only downside. nice job Gerber.
this is a very amazing knife it will not break on you and just if youre wondering about the pumbel they fixed the problem so this is a very high quality blade and the built in sharpener and sparker is a great survival feature but hint hint you can get it cheaper at other places walmart/ebay/amazon/dicks/ and im pretty sure theres more places that sell it
It is the best knife I have ever used apart from I think there could be one more thing you could put on it
This knife is my favorite and it never leaves me when i leave, i love the fire starter it always works and i had this for 2 months and just perfection.
Ok Knife, this is not what I would take to war with me by any means. This knife is good for camping and light duty, but like some others have said you get what you pay for and you can buy it for 50$ at walmart... other full on survival knives retail about 150$ ish.
I buy this knife just for carry a nice looking survival tool, but I'm more than impressed, my bike get's broken in the midle of the forest, and I took the inner tune, my knife and a gallon of water to walk 38 miles out of there using this knife FOR EVERYTHING!!!! start a fire, cut wood and help me to take my butt safe, thanks gerber°°°
the best knife in the world
Just an update on my knife. Still holds edge well, serrations are still intact, waterproof, my only complaints are the clamp that holds the knife in the sheath is loseining up and barley holds in the knife anymore, and the Velcro that holds the knife down is wearing out too. But overall the knife is superb it's the sheath that has a few issues. but i can still slice, chop, carve, widdle, and make fires anytime anyplace and i love it.
Everything about this knife is great. The sheath that comes with it is very cool. The blade is light weight and the finish it pretty clean to. The main 2 features of this knife is the sharpener which is a great idea to have it built in to the sheath and fire striker built in also with the stricker on the knife good idea.
I absolutely love my BG-ULT but it's coating prevents reflection... Could be handy to use when signaling a heli rescue when u don't have Time to make a fire
This kinfe is great, ive made bamboo spears (4 prangs) ive started fires, gutted fish and have been nothing but impressed ive had it for 3 months aand still works as good as when i first got it all in all very impressed
This is a great solid knife, I paid $49.95 at a Sporting Goods store and was amazingly surprised at the quality... The Fire Steel is pretty Good too, lit a cotton ball on the 2nd strike... Cant wait to take this out into the Field, and i will be buying another Straight edge version..
Got this knife for my girls to give to their daddy and he LOVES it. Unlike others he likes the serrated edge, but hey, it's all a matter of taste. Feels good in the hand, comfortable grip, good blade, and very nice sheath. A good knife for him to take camping and dirt bike riding. And those on youtube poking fun at the whistle: take your finger off the air hole boys, and it'll whistle just fine.
hello. first off, i think that this knife along with the rest of gerber's blades are thoughtfully designed with great handles and features, but thier product simply arnt strong enough to hold up to tasks you would need to do in a survival situation. this knife i could see would be great for scouts, who wont be hammering this blade though a log. seriously, i heard it has a 420 steel (so a 420A i guess) ..thats sad..i mean to at least call a knife good you need at least 440B steel.
I have one. It is very useful and great for just about everything you can think of. I love gerber and BG products!
best knife ever,......
I paid $100 for this knife in a camping shop. For the price im pretty happy with the quality. It does everything i want it to do. The serrated section i thought was a good idea but i would preffer just a clean strait blade. Overall its ok
Amazing knife! Sharp enough to use out of the box, but I would recommend sharpening even more once you get it. Ferrocerium rod works very well, best I have ever owned. One gripe I have though is the rubber grip is easily rubbed away.
I'm from South-Africa and the knife works, and lastes here... If it can hold here it can laste anywhare.
Best. Knife. Ever.
me: "come on mum let me get the knife"mum: "no way knifes are dangerous" me: you think I don't know that
the serrations are a bad idea but there is a version without and the price on the web site is about ten dollars cheaper at any outher store but over all a very good knife you can do almost any thing with it my hat is of to bear grylls
nice knife...im very like this knife...
Very good knife has alot of good features that work well and hasn't gave me any issues.
This knife is good for hunting and camping. Used it also for 2 weeks in the middle of nowhere, in the wilderness of norway.
You can cut almost everything and even chop wood. And with the integrated sharpener it's always ready for action.
nice blade, good fire starter but the plastic is low quality
Serrations on a survival knife! What a bad idea and by the way a serrated blade is a blade with disability.
Cant understand all the people who say the knife is garbage..... I have used mine to cut wood, hammer tent stakes into hardpan, filet fish, and cut a stuck anchor rope on my friends drift boat, I even used the flint to start a fire just for kicks (gonna just stick with the bic lighter method in the future) ....... I have a sneaking suspicion that most of the complainers are posers telling stories about dreams they have had, or they abuse the knife, (you can break absolutely anything if you abuse it)
This is the second Gerber knife I have owned, the other is a Gator gut hook deer hunting knife, I have been nothing but impressed with the quality and strength of both of them.
Really good Knife. Good steal and it´s very sharp!
Bear really put some thought into this knife. If is prolly the Koolest knife in my collection. I LOVE this knife. whistle, sharpener, flint, etc. It feels so sturdy and very well made. I am buying one for each of my boys I like it so much. I paid 59.99 for mine though, not the 62+
This knife was a present for my birthday last January and tested it in the woods for batonning wood. It suprised me that it did the job very well! No complaints, this knife did the job. Quick to sharpen! It is a good knife to have it with you while you are camping or doing bushcraft.
i bought this knife and quickly noticed a few things, it was very sharp (the dimond stone works great), and cut very nicely, but after the first use the knife's finnish started to wear off. the rubber sheath also had a tendency to hold onto dust and became pitted very quickly. the knife quickly got my disaproval when i managed to strip off the serationsduring normal usage. so what did i do? I bought a KA-BAR, and its the best blade ive ever owned.
some say the lmf2/BG knife can cut though anything, and that its a great knife, and the part about it cutting is true. however this knife lacks the ruggedness of the ka-bar. id say this knife is great for scouts or soft-core campers, but real men carry ka-bars or other legendary blades.
It is great, feels good in my hand, and looks great. I haven't used it yet, so I don't yet know if the serrations do break.
This knife is awesome and very dependable
ok the pommel is a bit loos and the serrasoins are broken but sending in for warrenty i think thers @ new version thow should be better
I love this knife! I have a woods by my house and my friend and I made a campsite with the bear grylls knife and the gerber paraframe. We made a A-frame shelter and a fireplace. This knife is hard to keep sharp but I found a system that keeps it sharp. Every day I use I get my step-dad to sharpen it that night. Again awesome knife.
This is a great knife. Period. I have nothing bad to say about it whatsoever and I would recommend it to anyone venturing into any kind of wilderness situation. It is tough, reliable, and it fits in the hand beautifully. Congrats to Bear and Gerber on nailing this Survival Series on the head, you have well exceeded expectations!
This knife is perfect for just about any situation. It's durable and comfortable to use for anything from around the yard, to the campsite, to an actualy survival situation. For the experts complaining about a partially serrated blade it's actually pretty common on survival and utility knives both civilian and professional. The fire starter works great and will probably last forever. The diamond sharpener is super handy and a real space saver. As for the Xcore survivalists that throw away the priorities of survival pamphlet I see it as being incredibly useful as advice for a newbie or a refresher for someone experienced. In closing this is a fantastic knife, Bear and Gerber did an amazing job.
This knife has nothing wrong with at all and don't understand why people who hate it is cause of who's name is on it. I own 2 and a couple other knives and they all are what they are intended for. When your in need of a good knife and your life depends on it, this is the knife you will want to have...
I bought the knife and can say it works as well as it looks. If and when you find yourself in need of a good knife for survival or pleasure this one I give 2 thumbs up. The knife performed well in all aspects and having fire and a sharpener on hand made life easier. To truly appreciate the knife You will have to try it out for yourself. Some people just expect to much out of a great piece of kit. MONEY WELL SPENT!!!
Saw this knife in the shop, did not consider buying it even for a split second.
One SINGLE thing ticked it off on my list as a POS poser item;
Serrations are mainly good for cutting rope, fabric and other man-made soft items... So why the heck put serrations on a survival-knife, on top of that in the area of the blade with most leverage where 90% of the heavy work is done near the handle, effectively hindering sharpening sticks, cutting branches and other types of heavy woodwork? That is what survival will be all about... For those who need a fancy seatbelt cutter with a tv-"stars" name on it I guess it`s a different story...
serrated edge so poor i cant put into words how bad it is. STAY AWAY
looks good knife seems strong and sharp the sharpener looks pretty good flint big sparks that means FIRE!!!!!! and the sheath cool i am getting this soon and if you are looking for a good knife get it trust me. i like it
good job bear
good job gerber
I have this series, it is a spectaular knife...it came razor sharp...very durable. Plus gerber is a very good brand. I live in the desert and we have very hard wood out here plus dangerous animals. This knife is a "must have" on you, not only when hiking out in the wilderness, but at all times. Because when you least expect it, you will be stranded and your knife will be at home. So yeah, I carry mine at all times. My pommel hasn't had any problems and I am a welder. I beat on steel with it. Awesome knife Bear!!! Keep them coming!!!
great knife used it for camping 4 or 5 times in the last year my biggest thing is the book fell out of the back and the lanyard broke, don't know how, just looked down after camping one time and it was gone it had to break to get of the knife but over great for me when I go camping
want it sooo badley
works perfect no problems very sharp very good for spear killed food no problem love GOOD JOB GERBER
I live in Bangladesh .I love this knife very much and also Bear .I want to buy it but it is so costly for me in currency . But I will try >
i think you shold get this knife iv hade it for a long time and its nerver faild on me so i think you shold get it
Oh and i forgot to mention how it even has a couple holes near the base of the blade in case you find urself in lion territory and need to fashion a spear.. for all of you "bear gryllsians" out there haha.. no but seriously.. BUY THIS KNIFE IF YOU LOVE GOOD QUALITY, COOL KNIVES!!!
Cheers!!
whilst shopping for an upcoming camping trip I happened to stumble upon this little beauty, which immediately caught my eye. I do have to admit that I am a Bear Grylls fan but more importantly I am and have been a huge Gerber fan so the two combined seemed to be pretty cool to me. After checking out all the BG products left on the rack at Wal-Mart (most were apparently already bought out), I decided to go with this knife and am very happy I did. The firestarter was a huge selling point as well as the sharpener because if you have ever field dressed an elk or any big game you will know that unless you have an amazingly well crafted blade you will need either a sharpener or a number of blades to swap out as they dull.
Moreover, the thing I happened to like best about this product was the grip. The grip has to be the most comfortable knife grip created. very ergonomically pleasing and everything about the knife seems like it has the grit of bear and the quality of gerber.. all in all.. I say its a great buy for $50 you wont find a better knife on the market unless you're willing to spend a $#1T-Ton of money and it probably wont be as fun to hold as this or as nifty. I will continue to buy more products like this, if only the Parang had a stainless blade that would be in my bag yesterday!
This knife was the first fixed blade knife that I had bought. Two weeks after buying this knife I went for camping in the Himalayas. It was a very intermediate 4 day trek.
Day 1, I proudly take out my knife to collect some wood from the forest. It sliced and chopped through wood nicely.
Day 2, I notice that the serrations on this "High Carbon Steel Blade" were bent.
This knife is way too overrated.
Handles well. Serrations are weak though. Tested chopping whitout serrations and it is not as performant as whit serrations... Guess I'll just sharpen them more often. Good price for someone like me that goes in the wild about 2 or 3 times a year...
The knife is amazing. People will talk crap about this knife just because it has to do with Bear but the knife does everything it's supposed to. Since I got mine two weeks ago I've hammered with it on posts outside, cut limbs, gutted fish, started multiple fires, and just whittled with it and it hasn't given me a problem at all. As a matter of fact it has done everything with flying colors, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who camps or uses a knife on a regular basis.
Big fan of Bear Grylls, I think he's awesome no matter what his critics say. They're haters. That being said, I tried this knife out for myself by cutting some wood and using the fire starter to make a fire. I had read some reviews about the pommel breaking off, but the issue must have been fixed by Gerber and I have seen no problems with mine, though I will have to put it through its paces. I don't expect any problems. My favorite part about this knife is the handle. It is super comfortable and incredibly easy to get a good grip, regardless if you hand is wet or slippery. I have some serious camping/hiking trips planned for the summer and this knife will be coming with me wherever I go. I can't wait to really spend some time with it. In addition I think I will also be purchasing the fine edge version, just to have both. I highly recommend this knife to anyone who goes outside ever.
Not so! Weak blade, serrations broke. Cheap steel, doesn't stay sharp and chips. In fact, not sharp out of the box.
Not worth it is my opinion.
Best knife ever, and surley it's tested, i have use it in the djungel and in the artic, and it is working perfect!
Really people? Did you expect this to be the ultimate survivor knife? At $60, you get what you pay for. Bear Grylls is a sell out and this knife is just marketing hype. If Bear had to go in the field alone and survive I GUARANTEE he would not bring this knife. All of you armchair survivor experts who have never been in a survivor situation and have little to no outdoor survivor experience are fools wasting your cash. You got all fired up watching Man v Wild and now you think you need a survivor knife and you waste $60 on a piece of junk. At $60, you get what you pay for.*Newsflash*: A good quality survivor knife is $150 - $250.
And she sheep go BAAAHHH
I must admit that reading several of the sub-par reviews for this product made me cautious to purchase it, but I figured I would give it the benefit of the doubt. I own the basic BG Multi-tool and I was blown away by it's quality and performance, so I hoped that the same eye for quality was given to this tool as well. upon purchasing it and putting it through the ringer, I have to say, "Wow." This knife is beyond any other I have owned. The carbon steel look gives it a unique and gritty personae that you won't find in any other knife. The 1/2 serrated 1/2 straight edge concept on this knife is superb. Careful attention was given as much to the design on the serrated edge as the straight edge. Both cut through branches, cord, vines, and plastics like they weren't even there. The grip is confortable, which always a plus and often an overlooked feature. The Steel Pommel is awesome as well. It can pound in nails as well as any ball-peen hammer. The fire starter, both in location on the sheath and in functionality, is extremely useful and practical. The daimond sharpener was, in my opinion, one of the wisest decisions when it came to the design of this knife. Too often has a knife been more of a nuicance than a saviour when the edge began to dull. The sharpener is a life saver. My kids love the lanyard whistle, though blowing it causes my ears to ring for about a minute.
I carry this knife with me, practically, everywhere I go, I've put it through hell and back, and I believe that this is an essential knife for any outdoorsman.
Well done Bear Grylls! You truely know your stuff and are an inspiration for outdoorsman everywhere!
I can't wait to have one of this Gerber product. It's very useful for my activities, specially in the wilderness.
Good Job Gerber!
awsome knife ,need to sell seprat sheath
My freind brand it over and it cut through branches like butter and is razor shar not to mention how mad the fire lighter is and how good it is
BUY IT NOW !!!!!!!!
Great knife, got lost in the woods, I made shelter and caught food. I owe my life to this knife
i got one now its so nice and realy good
So excited!!!!! Am going to get one!!!
This knife looks as awesome as it performs.
It has the best quality out of all the knives in my collection.
I highly recommend this knife to anyone looking to buy a good quality blade.
real good knife very sturdy very durable never owned a knife with such precision and quality in all my days well done keep up the good work it also saved my bacon when i got stuck 50 mile away from home in snow christmas eve
Absolutely love the Bear Grylls gear. Especially this knife. The flint rod does create a generous amount of sparks and is great for starting fires. On the go sharpening is made easy by the built in diamond-sharpening system on the sheath. A must have for all Scouts or Survival Enthusiasts!
Ive Been reading reviews and comments for this knife for 3 days now and have come to the conclusion that many just have not researched the knife enough, and make comments that are based on thier expierience with the knife. Period. I believe that there are still some bad knives out there from the 'BETA' release. I see the dates here may be a day apart and one mans knife is AWESOME and stands the test. Next Mans Knife is Garbage and the pummel fell apart and etc etc. So...just return the knife and they will send you the FIXED and updated version, and you will be singing a different tune. I haven't 'Hammered mine' yet, but its been almost two years now since the 'FIX', and the manufact Number on my package is different than the one I see on all the bad reviews/comments, so im probably good. I don't want to 'Use' the knife until its needed. Im like a crow also, I like shiny bright things, and i have been holding this knife in and out of the scabbard and just admiring it, and feeling that, 'Yes...if Im out in Gods Country and Uh-Oh happens, I want this Knife with me...No Doubt. So haters...get a grip and rectifie instead of whinning like a man-child without having the real story...and the REAL KNIFE. Its A Beeeeauuutiful work of Art.....until i need it...then its a Survival Knife.
This knife is awesome i recommend getting one
if you idiots knew how to sharpen a blade you would have nothing to complain about grow a set and learn how to shapen a blade
it is awsome and i love it
An incredible acheivment. This blade is rediculous. The rubberised grip works a treat and fits perfectly into your hand. Visualy, the BG ultimate knife is beautiful. When I tested this blade, I was very impressed. It handles batoning better then the Gerber Prodigy fixed blade (which looks and feels similar). The incorporated fire steel and diamond sharpener idea is fantastic. The sheath is very well created and is very well crafted. Don't put off buying the Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife till tommorow. Add to your cart and buy it now! Thanks again Gerber for a fantastic blade :)
Or do you just think it looks cool. Pommel fell off hammering a tent stake, Handle cracked battoning small stuff. A complete dismantling of the knife in one night. Cool looking knife...but, best knife ever? I'd take a swiss army knife over this in a heartbeat. Sorry Gerber, You fell short on the product. Now lets see how you handle this situation when you get my knife in the mail. Review to come!
The Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife is great , considering the price of 50 dollars comes with a FULL tang knife, a hardened sheath, firesteel AND a whistle. And all backed up by lifetime warranty.
The knife feels very solid in your hands, with the handle being very comfortable. The thick blade is very sturdy, and not to mention sharp. It is no KABAR , but it will do the job.
the best Blade for Bowhunting
I have had the ultimate knife for over a year now, and I must say that it has proven itself worthy. It takes awhile to sharpen, however the edge retention is superb. While the knife is impressive, the diamond sharpener was not for one simple reason; the grit actually started chipping off. I would much appreciate a replacement diamond sharpener. It came in handy before it's defect, and I would like to have a reliable sharpening stone yet again. Overall, great knife and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a durable knife that is up to the challenge!
Great knife
I've had many knives over time, but this one is by far the best. Everything you need in a knife is there. I think very highly of it and think all knife lovers should own one.
This knife is GARBAGE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if you take any comments on this as gospel listen here. Please do not buy this knife. I was expecting a very good Knife but the Knife isn't sharp out of the package. And two of the serrated points were bent. The blade wiggles in the handle and all around i feel like the knife is garbage. Bear shouldn't be backing this knife i would recommend you cancel your orders and everyone that is commenting on this knife being great check out anything else with a comparable price, Gerber used to be good quality now they have gone to the other side and decided quantity is better.
I would just like people to have an honest opinion of the knife because when i first read the reviews they all said the knife was great (seems like the site mite be adding there own comments). ALL IN ALL THE KNIFE IS GARBAGE AND I WILL BE RETURNING IT ASAP !
I am happy with the flint and the handle but the blade is not as sharp as I was expecting.
I also partially agree with the unhappy comments out there.
This knife is great ive used it in the wilderness lots it holds an edge well and starts fires great if i was in a survival situation i would definitly depend on it
Dull, won't sharpen, cerration will bend, uncomfortable grip.
Not worth the money.
In all, I'll give it 3 negative stars.
this knife would be a great one if it could stay sharp... it gets dull fast and wont sharpen at all; but the flint works great
can the serrations be sharpened as mine have been completely destroyed but im afraid of messing it up even more
cool as heck mega cool great everything
Iam not happy with this knife. The blade is dull, and i can`t get the edge sharp. The tip of the knife is bent. The sheet is good, and the handle is great.
I love this knife, and would totally reccommend it, but I dont know what people are talking about maybe its just my personal standards but the knife was no where near as sharp as Id like it out of the box. Now its all sharpened up and perfect :)
Love this Knife! I have always been a fan of Gerbers and this is icing on the cake! A quality knife, great add-ons, firestater, sharpener, whislte, etc. The sheath has a very nice click in to hold the knife in the sheath. I liked it so much, I bought two, one to put away for emergencys and one to use to get to know it and it's strengths. A must for any hunter, survivalist, prepper or anyone who ventures into the woods!
I really want to get this knife but it is way to expensive!!! It needs to be $40 to $50. Even that is high. Wish I could get this knife.
I am not allowed to have knives so I give my friend money to buy them that's how much i love this knife I am even at risk of getting caught all for this knife
already made a review but just saying my knife is still working like i just pulled it out of the box. the only wear and tear is the finish is coming off my blade (but i haven't owned a knife yet that hasn't lost it's finish) but other than that no damage so far. my fulcrum stick is wearing down but I've used it way more than whats necessary. i would still recommend this knife to any hunter, hiker, explorer, adventurer, or outdoors man.
want to get it .
it is so maddddddd.
+love bear grylls
4ever
well i finally got out with this knife and i tested for a few different things like cutting small trees down/splitting dry wood on half and used a rock to hammer on the blade while chopping wood and the knife is very good, will be buying other bear grylls gerber equipment
Great bit, nice sheath compared to the cheap cloth ones you sometimes get, like the click-in-place satisfaction when you put the knife away. Nice weight to the knife with a very comfortable grip. The fire steel snapped off of the handle, but I can replace that, not complaining considering I picked this up at a certain orange box store at a clearance price of $15.
MY SISTER SAIRA THINKS THE KNIFE IS REALLY COOL
Great knife, solid build with high quality extras.
Would be great to see an all blck version
; )
Thanks for keeping us alive Bear. Grrrr
On the ultimate survival knife needs to either harden the serrations or get a differnt type of steel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I use my tools what they Are used for and somtimes to the extrame but if it a good tool it should hold up, which is why i ask u to harden or pick a differnt steel bc the serrations are curling(Breaking down)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I can't wait to see what really helps bear in all his shows and it looks awesome so far but i wonder if the fire steel is that good
Fantastic Knife, high quality!
MAKE A BG E-TOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It saved bare grills many times.
The fire starter is easy to work
i've had this knife for a while and i love it great knife i've batoned with it and hack and chopped it stands up to it i also like the fire steel and sharpener THANKS GERBER
I've seen all the reviews about this knife, and I really think it is the ultimate knife, I just bought it and I really recommend it, thank you Bear Grylls for helping to create this knife.
AWESOME KNIFE
This thing just feels so nice in your hand, feels solid. The sheath is great with the extras. New permanent resident in my hiking pack.
I thinks you should put down the price a little bit
gerber drop the price u will problly sell more
The Bear Grylls Ultimate survival knife is a knife that I could trust 100% in a survival situation. I have owned it for months and it has done everything that I wanted to do the way I wanted it to.
This knife is veeerrryyy durable, I have used it for the following; hacking, sawing, pommeling (hard objects) and spliting very hard wood.
The only down side I have for this knife is that the serrations can chip if you hacking hard wood with it, thereforee it makes hacking harder because the serrations take up most of the blade.
If you love camping, hunting etc. I would highly reccomend the Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival knife to you
excelent knife, I use it for many otherthings than what it was designed for, it works great on gutting animals
Carry one on me at all times and one in my bug out bag. Very useful knife. Use the striker instead of matches every time matches are just no fun after starting fires with this tool.
Blade could be better but that is why I always have a few backups on hand. Never hurts to duplicate and diversify.
Awesome love everything except the ferro rod. It's a tad bit small and won't last long if you truly get lost but it'll work for 72 hours.
The Ultimate Fixed Blade is the best knife I've ever bought. The fire starter and diamond sharpener was a great bonus. But the over all construction of the knife itself is beyond expectation. The best Knife I've ever bought.
Simply put, this is the best survival knife on the market. Don't get me wrong, there are better knives on the market for individual tasks but Bear really thought of everything with this knife. The blade is very sharp and the serrations are more than strong enough to hold up against your typical needs. If you're trying to saw through tree, you'll probably widdle them away but fabrics and twine and other things will not do any damage. The fire starter is also really nice. It's not as good of a ferrocium rod as the one sold separately but it's still more than enough to start a fire. If people say it doesn't work well, they're just not skilled enough yet. The sharpener is also adequate. Like the knife and the fire starter, it's not the best sharpener around but good enough. That's ultimately what this knife is about. You can buy a top level fire starter sharpener, and knife for a sum total of $200+ easy. Or you can buy this ONE TOOL and spend a quarter of the price and have more than enough to survive.
Just got mine, absolutely fantastic. Very impressed with the flint, the thing throws a fireball. Something that could be done is take of the whistle and lanyard and put a Bear Grylls micro torch strapped to the handle instead. Just a thought!!
Great grip and steady balance! Just for a guy with large hands. Cuts like a dream rite out of the package. It's all so functional, resourceful and esthetically appealing as well. I think I'm ready to face all hell smiling with my superscoutleader and personal hero, Bear Grylles. Cheers mate! Great product once again Bear/Gerber
amazing all i have to say
I got one of these knifes for christmas and it is awesome !!!!!! this is the ultimate knife!
i am almost 1st class, working on my 1st aid mb all i need is to start my survival mb
thank you again for that information that would really help
very impressive to me i love the grip, the blade is strong and holds edge well. my serrations are still intact after much sawing and paring. The whistle is loud and made of good quality plastic. pummel works well for flatting and tenderizing.i found the pocket book very useful too. the sheath and sharpener are very useful and can be harnessed to almost all of my load outs, and best of all it makes a mean spark with the fire starter. a perfect knife for me and my hobbies. thanks Gerber and Bear for this amazing tool. an outstanding blade for $50!
great knife read some reviews that said it was junk this and that i bout one and i tested it very vigoursly and it with stood everything i threw at it it even bayoneted a 5in round sapling down with it the fire starter works great only complaint the knife isnt vey sharp out of the box and the pommel work awsome dont worry bout people saying itll fall of i beat a 3in screw in to a 4x4 with it and it didnt even scuff
Very good knife. I put it to the test over a few days citing trees and stabing things. Made a spear, put it threw hell used as hammer. It took one hell of a beating but after that a week I was using it as a spear and the tip broke. But I recommend it. Just don't get exited and try to find out its limits. Good product
A good strong stylish nife that is really light weight and is good when I am on long walks just knowing it is there in my Bergen so if get lost or injured I no I can get help with whistle :)
i want this knife i need this knife but its just too high we need it lowered
i have been wondering sould i buy it? please give your apinion! Can i put this on by belt? thank you ULTIMATE SURVIVOR I will look on amozon :). i love how this knife looks.
Just Like SurviveTexas stated this is a knife to treasure and to NOT use until absolutely necessary. I also have many other knives both pocket and sheathed, but to have a complete survival kit on your hip is something special if the situation ever presents itself, hopefully not. See you 12-21-12
I made a short lanyard for the firestarter and attached it to the main sheath so if it pops out it wont fall to the ground.
I love the knife but the case rubs when you have it on your belt. The case is rough at the top
Great looking knife, nice weight and balance, the only two things i didn't like was that there were no instructions on how to sharpen it (would be nice), and the blade has been Blued and the instruction manual gives tips on using it to signal - the Blued doesn't reflect???
other than that I love it, very pleased with it...
Excellent quality, razor sharp (shaves) right out of the box. The most ergonomically designed knife I've ever held! Great features, the only thing I see that I don't like is the lanyard, too small, I could only get 2 fingers through it, not even close to getting my hand in it. Note to Gerber- in China (made in) they have much smaller hands (among other things) than the Western World!
Is it possible that by any chance i can have this in India.
This is the best knife i ever used!
i luv this knife! i just got it and has a great value deal! i recomend buying it on amazon.com!!!
I love this knife and would recommend it to anyone. Had for some time use it in the woods alot. Very durable, regardless of what some people say about the pommel. Their first run of the the knife was not full tang which they have fixed now. If yours breaks simply email them for a replacement and you should get a new one! I stepped on my sheath, broke it. They sent me a replacement For Free. Fire starter fell out somewhere on the trail, They sent me a new one FOR FREE. Even when they were out of stock on the web page. LOVE all Gerber tools.
This knife is not the sharpest knife in the world, the chheapest, the most beautifull, the strongest or the most durable! What I like more is the fact that this knife begs to be taken in the wild. I feel much better knowing that in my backpack is this knife, with a fire starter. I didn't bought this knife for some sort of collection. I intend to use it until it breaks. Then I will buy another one, it' not the most expansive knife on the market either.
I love this knife. The best all in one. I just bought mines from BJ's. It came with the knife and sheath of course. But also came with the basic kit. After taxes I paid $43.99. Definitely worth it.
Just brilliant,I want it so freaking bad!just make the price lower please.
Nice knife, but web site sucks on an iPad
I am an Eagel Scout and I need a good knife....I like this one but it is alot of money and the blade is fairly small.
Bought an 11" long full tang, 6" carbon steel fixed blade with a sheath and paracord handle for a 1/10th of the price. The serations haven't broken, the paracord is infinitely more useful IMO than the whistle (which can be made from grass for $0) and a standard fire starter works great with it and doesn't have to be attached to the sheath, which I find very clunky. Dunno, I think there's way more value in ingenuity than the bells and whistles (literally!).
I want this so bad. BA knife bear and gerber
Just brilliant
This is an incredible knife. Not only because of its incredible strength but the other mini features like the whistle and flint rod. Two thumbs up to Gerber and Bear Grylls on this fantastic knife!
I just got this knife and have already made 2 sturdy forts it's the best for hacking and cutting trees and every thing else
Definitely recommending it
I just want to buy the USA ultimate knife
I've been saving up my money and looking at youtube videos night and day i saw every niche of the knife and i think its amazing but my only concerne is that the black paint on it comes off and it may or may not rust i don't have one but other people say its amazing
This knife is the best !! Have used it ruggedly since buying it and has never failed. BG products all the way !
Don't count on this knife. The blade and the pommel are only held in the plastic handle by one pin each. If you didn't buy it just to play with in the living room, the pommel will eventually break off the handle as mine has.
this would be ideal if it were smaller like 3.8 " long so that scouts can use it
it probably is a diving knive since it is water proof and does not rost
does anybody know if you can use it as a diving knife.
this is the best knife in the world bear grylls u r so cool
Over all awesome awesome knife
i have 3 knives in my kit, lmf ii infantry, gerber prodigy and this knife. this knife i my favourite by far.
Very sharp! You can get it at Wal-Mart for $50!
I need this replacement.... how is it out of stock at the gerber company website???
I have only 3 knives in my hunting pack. All 3 are Bear Grylls. Whin you hunt as much as I do it's good to keep a reliable knife in your pack. Wish it was a full tang.
Im and Eagle Scout, i hunt, camp, hike, etc. I do a ton of major trips and this knife goes everywhere with me. I love it. The tools are useful, and easy to use, the knife i great weight. Good price, great deal!
best knife ever so easy to sharpen stays sharp love the sheath big fan of the serrations and i love the magnesium stick
Great knife I love the fire starter, rubber grip, and the sheath but don't forget the great part about it the knife itself!
I've owned and used Gerber knives and multi-tools for many years, with no complaints thus far. As with any tool, if used and maintined correctly, it, it will give good service. If abused and neglected, it won't. It's just that simple.
I expect this knife to perform well within its niche. It's not an axe, a saw, or a sledge hammer - it's a knife. The extra features - fire steel, sharpener, whistle, etc. are useful additions I'd cary in my kit anyway, so it's nice to have them and the knife all contained in one place.
I have one and i love it. I take it camping and it is awesome. The sheath is great. The fire striker is very good. People how broke the end off obeiously dont know how to use it. If you are stabing paper that is like stabing a tree. LEARN how to use it.
It's a great knife! Perfect weight. Great design!
This knife is great!!! i have used it and it is one of the best knives i have used EVER!!! the features on the knife and the sheath are so handy they are extremely useful. :) :) :) :D :D :D :D
look I know this knife is really cool. But the reality is that the knife itself sucks. I bought mine a few months ago, I built a simple lean-to and the knife was ruined. after consulting a local knife maker, a found out that the blade was to hard. for a survival knife to really work it needs to be made of a softer steel, like a hatchet or a machete.
I love this knife, but. i have a few thoughts to go against it. The metal quality of the knife could be improved. The serrations have worn down on me, and just lately (Feb 7) the point of my knife became nicked from just stabbing a stack of paper. Other than the quality of the metal could be improved, i have nothing else against this knife. I love everything else about it. Props to Gerber for the knife.
I rated four stars, because the metal quality could be improved.
i`m a young fan of the show and this knife is great. I tried my Dad`s friends kinfe it was amazing. This is the best survival tool you`ll need in the WILD........
When I first received this knife, the stitching on Velcro tabs on the nylon sheath was unraveling. I emailed Gerber customer support and they sent me a new nylon sheath. I’ve had this knife for about 3 months now and have had a chance to really use it. The fire starter is first rate and my 5 year-old son can easily use it. The blade is not only easy to sharpen but hold an edge well. The integral sharpener on the hard sheath can quickly put a rough edge on the knife, but is not good for fine sharpening (which is not its primary purpose). This knife has easily stood up to moderate hard use of building forts and shelters in the woods with my sons. I will recommend it and Gerber to anyone.
i'm in year 8 and a i went camping with my brother that has this knife and i got to use it heaps.by the end of the trip i new the knife i was going to by when i'm old enough to get one. best knife
I got this knife last DEcember 2011.. It looks good and I like the grip...I can't wait to use it this summer camp and test it how far he goes..
I dont have this knife but i used my friends. its really cool, i love the features on it, and on my boys scout they allow me to have it if i had one witch i will be getting soon
Boyscout, if your First Class or up have your First Aid MB and are working on the Survival MB I think I would have to let you wear it.
i have read all the reviews and i really like this knife. it has everything. flint, dimond sharponer and an full on grip. it has a serated edge wich i really like and is an awesome knife. i rate it five of five.
i have tried out many knives over the years and i think this is the best of them all.when i first bout it i didn't if it was going to be worth it but i would of regretted it if i didn't.Gerber Bear great good
It would be nice if the sheath came with a pouch instead of a sharpener.
I bought this knife for one reason...Survival, not for everyday use. I have collected multiple knives of almost every manufacturer and I'll be the first to admit they all can break or wear down. This knife is here in case I HAVE to use it. One of the easiest things you can accomplish with a tool is damaging it. The most challenging is using it the right way and making it last. Thanks Bear!!! I hope I never actually need it to survive but its good to know its there.
I ride my bike often and in the backwooded areas. Sometimes come across broken machines. Great for salvage, cutting wire, breaking ice. Never been in a desperate situation to use the Alpine signals or fire starter.
As cheaply made as they come, this knife came in unsharp and broke on my second trip. The tang does not even go through the whole handle. What a shame. Drop this one Gerber, it's giving you a bad name.
Just got it after drooling over it for weeks. Great knife the one thing I did not like was how the lanyard it didn't fit around my hand so i attached it to the fire-starter good solution.
i really like this knife, well i have never accually held it. i am a boy scout and they olny allow folding knives! why cant they at least allow this one?
I've had this for well over a year now, I use it every single day, and I've never had one single problem with it ever. We burn our paper refuse out here, and I use the fire steel to do that, at least 3 times a week, and it always works. I removed the whistle because I'm not lost, other than that, it's a damn fine tool. I also own a Gerber EMF I, and they are the same when it comes to performance.
in a routine field test of my gear (if you dont feild test your gear you should start) i tried starting a fire with my Bear Grylls ultimate survival knife. A few strikes in, my fire starter breaks. no abuse or mistreatment, im not sure if it was just one of those 1 in 1000 are faulty, or it actually is a peice of junk. paying nearly $70 for a knife, and it not even being able to survive a basic field test is bad news. i am highly dissapointed.
its a great kife it feels really solid and it dosent feel cheap. Even the the sheath feels very sturdy. overall a very gook knife.
i want this knife it has really good reviews and bear uses it on the show now so it must be good.
somone said it wasnot sharp but it comes with a sharpener
My suggestion would be to have a LED lamp attached to it.
using bear's name to make money go to Ka-bar knifes for a non crudy knife
I've been watching videos and reviews about the knife. Everyone says something different, but moslty positive comment. I'm just wondering if you can get replacement fire starter and sharpening stones. Other than that i'm most likely going to get one.
THANKS FOR THE SURVIVAL TIPS BEAR, IT'S THE ULTIMATE SURVIVAL MULTI-TASKER
Bought this knife off amazon and i love it. It comes extremely sharp and just feels amazing in the hand. @Bearfan The first editions off the knife were hollow but gerber revised the knife and it now has a full tang connecting the pommel to the blade.
i sooooooooooooooooo want to get one of those that knife is one of the best knifes i have ever seen and its got a spark lighter how cool is that i am sooooooooooooooooo saving my money up for that
I have had this knife for about a year now and its great. its the best survival knife I have ever bought. Also the handle is not hollow. it is very solid.
I use it all the time this is one heck of a knife!
I'm a hunter and I've used it on some animals and it works great. I also take it with me hunting for survival reasons. If that day ever comes. haha.
I also wish to some day become a survivalist like Bear Grylls himself so I go on little survival trips, kinda like what Bear does and it fits my every need.
Cant beat this knife at all for the price ts amazing. good for camping and for scout troops
Good
To Bearfan: The handle is not hollow, but quite solid.
I have two questions about this knife:
1. The sheath is made in China, is the knife is made in China also?
2. What grade of high carbon stainless steel is used to make this knife? 420HC or anything else?
It has it's ups and downs, as do all manufactured knives. The firesteel works without issues and is rather quite comfortable to use. The sharpener works well to keep a hair shaving edge on on the fine edge. And the fine edge has not been damaged yet, although the serrations apparently cannot withstand the test of cutting bamboo. They began to chip quite easily on the hard wood. At that point I stopped using it. The manual is quite basic, and the air to land rescue diagrams are helpful and easily obtained in a survival situation. I don't see a need for a pommel on a knife, for I never "hammer" anything in the wild, but you have one anyways. The only complaint I have is why in the heck is there a lanyard on a knife, if it can't fit around your wrist... Other than that fact, the whistle is fairly loud for it's tiny size. I like the coloring on the knife by the way. It's a good knife. Just not as durable as I thought it would be.
i love the knife the fire starter has an amazing spark
to answer Qualits's question no i the handle isnt hollow it it appears to me that the steel from the blade goes through the middle the handle feels great in my hand i hope this helped
The handle is solid. Plastic with integrated rubber, shank goes all the way though. The knife feels really good in your hand.
I love this knife! It is perfect for all outdoors use. I would like it if you could buy a replacement sharpener though.
This knife broke in no time. The blade is GREAT. The handle is lacking in strength. The but end of my knife broke off!! The tang does not go all the way through the handle!!! The end cap is "glued" in. Not reliable at all. I can't imagine Gerber turning out junk like this. I would have NEVER expected the tang to stop in the middle of the plastic handle. I've carried a Gerber multi-tool for the past 17 years. I had a great deal of respect for them....until now. Gerber, if you are listening, please make this good and save your reputation. Thanks....Chris
I have used this knife in all different climates. It is a thick blade and cuts really well. Sometimes I like the serrated edge and other times, I wish it was not there. Also, the serrations seem to wear down a bit against hard wood or coconuts. However, the serrations cut stuff quickly, which can be life saving, and the knife holds up really well. I like the two holds to make into a spear too. Also, has a sharpener and a fire starter that work pretty sufficient. The only down side to the knife is the fact that when swimming in salt water, the corrosive water can seep down into the handle. Easy to flush out with fresh water but hard to oil. Not too much of a big issue though. All in all, if I could only have one knife in the wild, this would be it!
I bought this knife for one reason - to try and break it. I cut up an old 600 foot length of 1/2 inch rope into 4-foot long pieces, i hammered 300 nails into a 2X4, jabbed the knife into a tree for a half hour, resharpened the knife using the sharpener on the back of the sheath, and then used the fire starter until I wore it down. This is a great all-around knife. My only complaint - lose the safety orange coloring and offer the knife in black, tan, and foliage green.
Hi there,
I have a question about the item:
I saw in different places this knife and I saw that the same knife have differente codes. Here it has 31-000751 and in other places I saw 31-000902 to. What is the difference beetven the two code(because the price are different, and in pictures are the same) ?
can anyone who had bought this knife tell me about the handle, I am curious as to whether the handle is hollow or not
its got a good strong blade
i have used this knife harder than bear, best knife ive ever had!! hands down!!!
ive been looking to get this knife for a while it looks really good and i hope it lives up to the good reveiws.
Really nice knife
Not a bad knife. It's a little cheap in the quality department. I think you'd be better off with a Ka-Bar; I have the Becker BK2 and it's about the same price and twice the knife. Minus the little bells and whistles of course.
Great Knife, reallyg enjoying this one
the BEST knife for servival i have ever owned.very functional knife. worth ever $.
the full size pocket knife is extremely factory sharp. I use it on a daily basis here at Fort Riley and ihavent had a problem yet...Nice rubber handle and lightweight makes it easy to pull out of my sheath to accomplish any task i have at hand. Thank you Bear Grylls and Gerber.
This knife is the bomb
Its the best blade I´ve ever got: :)
the knife and the fire starter are really doing goodas you see it on youtube
this is the vid of it look on here
watch the movie and anjoing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivOvUThMcnM&feature=related
Love this knife ! I hunt , fish and hike through the moutains of west virgina with my family and i won't leave home with out it no matter if it's only for a short distance . I cleaned deer ,fish made traps that i have learned off the bear grylls shows . I have put this knife through sever tests . It has stood up to everyone . I would like to thank bear and his crew for all the useful knowledge and i proudly own 90% of your products
Good design, bad steel, not sharp, doesn't stay sharp, cheaply made. How much is your survival worth???
The new model is great. Obviously the first thing I noticed was a thicker 1/4" orange band around the pommel which makes the thing solid as a rock. fire surface on back of knife is also larger. Cant wait to start some fires
What a great knife. First off I'm not a fan of serrations, but with that being said i still love this knife. The firestarter works great, as it throws a great spark, and it makes greeat fires. The angled sharpener makes sharpening a lot easier. Being this impressed with the overall quality ofthis knife, I am expecting to order to order the fine edge just to add to the collection, as well as some new fire startes.
have many knifes from gerber and this is one i takewith mein the wild weather im justhiking or going out for a week haveone im my car disaster bag and one to use while out does rust quite a bitbutdoes retain a nice edge even after cutting fire wood for a week but as long as i clean it right after its ok i have used this knife for many things this is hands down better than any SOG but feirce comp with the ka bar but for the price well well worth it LMF is aboutthe same knife and is amasing to THANK YOU GERBER AND BEAR FOR AWSOME PRODUCTS
Well constructed and sturdy. Wide tang prevents fingers from slipping when knife is driven hard. Have made Braaivleis fire with the Flint and steel. Heavy durable blade but due to high carbon concentration will not only take and retain an edge excellently but also rust sooner. So sharp out of the packaging that I was able to shave with it. Good fixed blade Pigsticker :-)
Well done Gerber!
this knife is so good
almost started fire
cut many things
champion knife thanks bear and gerber
p.s can you buy the plain knife just in case
Hi,
I just got my Ultimate Knife for chrismas it is exelenta, the only thing is that in the fist time a use the Fire Starter it broke. Do you have any tipe of graranty?
great knife i wish that the flint did not go as fast
Upon receiving the knife, I tore open the blister-packed knife and finally, I was holding the actual knife in my hands. To my surprise, once I got past all the Bear Grylls logo everywhere, it’s wasn’t a bad knife. The grip, weight, and feel of the knife felt pretty good. The first thing I noticed was the weight of the knife. At 14.7oz, the knife, complete with it’s loaded sheath, was relatively lightweight. When wore on the belt, it’s unnoticeable. Overall, the sheathed knife didn’t look too disco (aside from the signature logos). The gray and black plastic/nylon sheath with the safety orange accents gives it a nice look and easier to spot during low light hours.
The knife itself has an overall length of 10″ with a 4.8″ high carbon stainless steel drop point combo blade. The blade is sharp out of the package and ready for use. The blade has some type of dark brown/blackish coating on it, I’m guessing as a protective layer....
This is an extensive review. If you'd like to read more, please visit www.modernbushman.com
nice3
I first saw this knife in a Canadian tire, I was surprised that Bear got his own knife. I thought that it was common knowledge that his show was fake. But then a friend of mine got it, and I was impressed. We used it for building a lean-to. The knife held up very well, My favorite part of the knife is the weight, its well balanced and has a nice blade length. I have been told the fire starter can break. But the built in sharpener is handy. Also the fact that it is bright orange is handy in case you dropped it in a pile of leaves. I would advise this knife to even those who are not Bear Grylls fans.
How does the sharper work other than that great knife.
It is a very great knife, and I am very glad to have one! The problems the fisrt generation had is totally gone! One thing I would like to point out, is that some users have complained about the serrated part of the knife being damaged after very little use, but this has not happend to me!
Great Knife , Was given it for Christmas , Sharp as shit! Have already used it every day sence , Great knife , Great muti tool!
i like the grip and the signauture
First off awesome customer service had a problem at first but customer service help me with that.. knife is truly well made... sharp and solid.. sheath the best... diamond sharpener works with all knifes.. knife holds solid in the holder does not rattle... fire starter cant comment have not used it but i am sure bear gyrlls would not send me out in the wild with a garbage fire starter... awesome product... up next ultimate survival kit ;)
Knife is solid, I used to have few classic KA-BAR's but didn't hold military regulations.
This knife is well made, pommel is helpful but grip tightly when hammering.
Fire starter is effective, however ferrocerium, does tend to expire quickly- use sparingly.
Fine point is quite sharp- angled sharpener makes life even easier.
I actually removed the whistle, and attached the set sheath into my belt- makes my life easier.
OMG! What a knife I must say. When unboxed this survival product, I was so happy in knowing its great features. An amazing nylon sheath which was extremly lightweight, annd also had a great diamond sharpener on the back which becomes another handy option if your hiking and want to take little in your pack, instead of packing another sharpener. Also to mention the high standered fire started locked into the sheath. Ive already used this for fishing, camping, hiking and day trips. This is a great fixed blade knife and very handy to have. My mate and I go fishing and he has this knife also and says the same great stuff about this knife like me. I beleive this knife comes higher than any other knife such as the
"SOG SEAL PUP"
absolutely amazing i chopped a 6 inch diameter birch tree down and cracked a concrete block with it
100000000000000 out of 5
Got this for Xmas, and have already used it to start some fires. Knife is durable, and works. Very sharp, and the built in sharpener works good on all my knives. Nice that we can also get a replacement fire stick when needed.
if you value a knife of incredible value, then this is the perfect knife for you. theres a reason Bear Grylls backs this knife. Its the best. Period.
i got this as a christmas present and I really like the knife except for 1 thing... when i was out cutting small branches from tress 3 of my serrations broke off and i have 1 bent serration, and it was dull out of the box when i first got it. other then that its a very good knife and me and my survival buddy love it
Love the knife, sharp, great grip, flint is a life saver, and whistle is very cool. If this knife had a compass it be ultimate
I haven't had a chance to test the Fire Starting ability but I will try to come back in April. cutting branches, sharping Hot dog sticks. whistle is a great addition in the country I live in, scares animals. It really feels like you have a Defence weapon in your hands feel good to grip. Extremely sharp. Can't to try to attempt to start a fire with it. Velcro to hold flint is very key or you are going to lose your starter!!
Just bought knife at cabela's looked it over, real impressed with quality and design. Really affordable too. Look forward to my first trek with it. From Shuswap Lake, BC , Canada
Just got this for christmas. Haven't used itin the field yet, but I only am going to use it for fishing (guting, line cutting, killing) so it wouldn't be that tough on it. I like the feel of it the weight for me is just perfect. And the features are well laid out. My dad said he had a Gerber when he was young and said that it was quality and thats why he bought it for me, But in summary it is very sharp out of the case and the sheath is well built, its a very good knife.
The best knife I've ever owed every real man should own one
This is a great knife for beginners. I read all the reviews on the knife before buying it and most reviews said it was really good or it was a piece of crap. The people who decided it was a piece of crap actually have good reasoning behind their ideas, but also they overlooked the fact that they like their knifes and know alot more about high quality one and are comparing them to this one. Its a great knife for beginner knife enthusiasts but a not so good choice for the pros. If your a pro you might want to save up and buy you a better knife. Even though after stating that its probably not the best knife for pros, don't dis the knife beginners, its made by Gerber. its one BAD ASS of a knife and if you do decide to buy it, I would recommend to get it from a store who supply's the knife because i got mine from a bass pro shop for 50 dollars instead of buying it from Gerber for 62$.
brilliant knife it has a very good quality steel and its very reliable I would recrommend it to everyone and all, although mine didnt come out of the package super fast but it the best knife I have ever handled
This knife is great. It has everything i might need in any situation. I havent used this knife yet but is really sharp. I got it for christmas and the first time i took it out of the sheath i cut my finger, definitely nof for kids but a very good knife. Also the survival guide is very helpful!
this knife is awesome, the flint works great, so does the sharpener i love it
I noticed the fire strikers on the back of the blade itself is wider in gen 2. Also gen 2 I believe comes in a box, not that tear apart packaging. Please correct me if I am wrong because I really don't want my pommel to break off if I have a gen 1.
getting one for christmas and cant wait to go out with it. i have the scout series and love. it works great on gutting perch.
The knife is a sturdy durable and hefty survival knife! I use it when camping all the time! It has actually saved me in a few situation. I love it. I have over 200 knives in my collection but this one is one of my favorites! I congratulate gerber on a job well done.
Matthew,13
this is an amazing knife it is durable, strong, and the fire steel works great the case is nice it works very hard for ya and not really and complaints
Knife is great except for the fire striker location. I know 2 people that lost their striker due to it not being additionally secured. I added a small nylon cord to the end of it. If it was turned around the other way it wouldnt get lost. We all were in the same brush on a survival training exercise. I really enjoy the knife otherwise.
i'm a US Marine sniper since 2002, i used and use this knife and it's one of my favourite knives ! R.
this knife would be awsome if it had good hard steel to with stand some use. when i first used this knife the edge didnt last 20 minuts but i love the design of the knife
Such an awesome knife! does everything and more that a knife should do! I am however a LITTLE worried about how long the elastic handle strap on the sheath will last...everything else seems very solid but that elastic strap seems like it might tear in half if the nylon sheath is bent too much around a belt while wearing it in horizontal position..other than that no complaints!
It's a very good and its a pleasure to work with. The only this thats not so good about this knife is the large rope-cutting section on the blade. I'm very happy with it and and it's a great knife if your going to the woods!
great knife, bought it about a month ago and hasnt failed me in anything... but i would recommend the fire starter be turned upside down just in case so it wont fall out, and the whistle be attached to the fire starter instead
it definately is better than i expected
im from turkey i couldnt find lmf ii for a reasonable price it was almost 300 $ ...
i bought this instead
well its not as indestructable as lmf
at least it doesnt give that impression
comes out of box razor sharp
i can shave with it
btw worst packege imaginable... like a toy
I LOVE THIS KNIFE!! It is perfect and I'm proud to own it. It serves my adventures well. I have read the reviews on this page and operator error seems to dominate the negative reviews. An important element to surviving is common sense. This knife is a tool to aid in survival situations, it's not going to make your camp coffee in the morning. STOP WHINNING.
the knife and sheath are high quality. the drawback is the sharpener. the sharpener is flat which means you have no way to sharpen the serrations of the knife. also my firestarter fell out on the trail. you cant currently purchase the firestarter replacement.
Gerber, Bear, and Fiskars truly Thought of everything with this knife. IT IS A SOLID KNIFE. This thing cuts through Camel bone right out of the box! Also The Diamond sharpener integrated in the back is beautiful. I appreciate the sheath ergonomics for left and right hand users who change their load distribution often; not to mention an around the back belt option. I will surelly be pummeling the wild with this knife for MANY years to come. THANK YOU!
Bought one. love it.
I love this knife. Iam a big camper and hunter and it is hard to find a good knife with a good steel blade. Everyone wants to put aluminum on the blade. Thanks gerber and bear grylls you are the man.
ive heard it is A GREAT KNIFE
Great knife one of the best I have ever bought. I use it all the time the one thing I don’t like is I used it so much the Velcro on the sheath to hold the knife sewing I coming of and my fire starter snapped in half from using it to much but all in all it is a great knife. THANKS GREBER AND BEAR GRYLLS
I agree, I like this knife very much. It was sharp out of the package but I don't think it was sharp enough to cut arm hair or anything. The fire starter is very cool and I keep taking it out of the sheath and doing stuff with it. I'm not a knife expert or anything but I feel this is a good buy. I just wish I had more things to use it for besides wearing it on my side like I am doing things with it.
I love this knife! My kids got it for me last fathers day (great kids) I have chopped down 6" trees with it, cleaned small game and built fires with it. I have used this knife more then anyone else, the only complaint I would have is I can't find replacement fire starters as I used mine up. This knife has become a constant fixture on my hip when ever I go farther then the back yard and with my lifestyle that's almost every day.
Just picked one up today , definitely better quality than I expected . This knife has some nice weight to it , sharp out of the box. , feels solid enough to do what others have put it through . I can't put the thing down , it had a very good feel for a knife .
This knife kicks some ass it is tough and durable, and comes really sharp out of the box. the serrations are tough and they cut ropes and wood very easily. i m glad that i did not buy the fine edge version. it holds the edge very well, and using the sharpening stone in the sheath makes it razor sharp. you could use it to shave for example. the whistle makes a pretty loud noise and its super small, and its not in way. greetings from finland bear! im really proud of this knife!
You know i'm not really sure what everyones problem with it is. this knife is perfect there is nothing wrong with serrations, the pummel, the blade or anything its perfect!
i just bought the knife, razor sharp out of the box. It removed the hair from my arm, just to check the sharpness. The fire starter took a few strikes out of the protective bag but it works. I have yet to try the the starter attached to the knife. This is the best knife bought recently. Thanks guys.
if its bear grylls its great
looks great cant wait to get it ....no doubt th that it will be the best knife ive ever owned reason being bear grylls is the most awesome dude ever and gerber makes the best knives period
I am content with the knife after a month of use, however... Stainless steel? Without the grade of the blade? How much carbon content is in this thing? I've been a loyal Gerber fan for more than a decade but I have noticed their quality start to decrease.
best built quality.... light weight technology by carbon stainless steel gr8 product for bear
Got this as an early Christmas present... And I think it's the best gift I ever got. Thanks for making a really good (and TOUGH) knife mr. Bear and Gerber.
I don't understand what is wrong with everyone elses knives. I just got one and it is perfect. The steel is strong, the serations are still there. It was sharp out of the box and has stayed sharp. If your knife does not hold an edge then either learn to sharpen it better. It comes with a diamond sharpener anyway.
I've found the knife to be decent. It doesn't hold an edge very well and the sharpening block is basically useless. I like the concept and design, but the steel could be better. The fire steel is cool, but not the best. A shock cord for fire steel retention would serve the knife well.
This knife is just a ripoff. The blade was dull out of the box, some serrations broke while battoning. Total waste of money. Nothing "Ultimate" about this overpriced knife. Lose this one Gerber!
Hey If you guys could make another version of this knife with a stronger metal, redesigned sheath and move the whistle to the firestarter that would be awesome!
All-in-all it's a great idea. The fire steel does go down rather quickly as all do so they need to offer a replacement to fit into the sheath. PLEASE come out with another version with harder steel. I would deffinately pay some extra money to get a better metal. The steel is just way too soft for any medium-hard work.
It's a razor sharp......! And thnx to bear for great survival tips... Love u
Just got this knife and it definitely the best knife out there. DO NOT understand the teeth falling off, used mine on deer antlers and none fell off. Great tool and added bonus is the fire starter! I would tell anyone from city life to out in the country to have one ready for whatever happens! GREAT PRODUCT BEAR AND THANK YOU!!!!
I reallly like the Bear Grylls ultimate knife but I do have one problem with it. Every time I put it in the scabbard sharp, it comes out with the edge dinged up. You guys need to look at re-engineering the scabbard. Otherwise it's a great little knife!
I bought this knife in April 2011 just before I went on a 3 week trip to Yellowstone and other places out west. I wanted a good knife to take with me and I definitely put this knife through a testing phase. I literally used it to cut through wood that was 6 inches in diameter by using it as a wedge and hammering the top of the blade with a smaller piece of wood. It worked perfectly. It is a great knife and I highly recommend it. All of the other bells and whistles of the knife make it a great camping tool.
i bought this knife for a scout camp. i love it. it has the best blade i hav ever used. i do like where everything is exept the whistle. maybe it could be moved to the fire starter. also i have worn my fire starter out, is there a place that i can buy them so i dont have to buy a completly new knife set.
I want to change my fire starter withe a new one but i want the same as it is with the knife.
Great knife...I call it "rambo knive for adults" ...everything is great!!!! the only thing I would change is to incorporate the whistle into the handle of the firestarter.....
This thing rocks, the other night I went searching for coyotes with my friend and we heard something in the bushes and we took it down with our KNIVES! I can use this knife for pretty much anything.
This knife is junk. My serated teeth all broke off by simply cutting through deer antler. I cannot understand how this knife can be consciously labeled as a "Survival" knife, an "Ultimate" knife, Stamped by Gerber, and finally stamped by Bear Grylls. I am thoroughly dissapointed. My trust in the brand Gerber will forever be tainted.
This knife is absoluetly horrible. I was so excited to get this Bear Grylls "approved" survival knife. Though as I put it to use, I found that this knife should NEVER be put in a survival pack. For starters, when I used this knife to chop through materials, the serated teeth completely broke off. Oh, an as i am sure you have found other places you need to make sure you get the new version of the knife, because the original ones where not full tang and the butt of the knife is pron to fall off. I was greatly saddened by this knife. Until this knife I held Gerber and Bear with great respect. They should both be ashamed for passing this knife off as a "survival" knife.
The knive is pretty good but when I pulled it out of the sheath it had sratches on it. th sharpener is in an ideal place and the fire starter makes good sparks othe than the sraches on the knive I can pretty much put the knive to good use.
Very sharp and sturdy knife , but mine did not come with a sheath , so I have to wrap it in a old shirt .
The knife has nothing ultimate about it. Uncomfortable grip, the blade does not stay sharp and the serration are faulty. I teach boyscout and will not recommend this knife.
Great knife better than my $200 Swiss army knife the only problem is mine did not come with a fire starter
flint works great! lanyard little small but works great sharp out of the box and ready to be used I recommend this knife if you live near a forest.
I have one of these knifes and it got me through getting lost in the wild.
one of the best fixed blade knifes out there but not good for cold weather the plastic will break
I have owned The Ultimate Knife for two weeks.
First use the blade chipped while cutting kindling to start a fire. blade dulled after two cuts. Blade wasn't that sharp out of the box.
The ferrocerium fire starter works great! just need to be able
This knife is awful. The first time I used it, the blade chipped in multiple spots and didn't hold an edge. I used a friends and the handle cracked. Sad to say, this knife is not worth buying.
just love this knife best one i have ever found
Great all-around survival tool. Good quality steel, holds an edge well. Good fire-starter. Guess maybe there was a bum production lot at some point, but problems seem fixed now. Gotta get me that Parang!
The Ultimate Knife for almost any application. A true hard working, Work of Art.
It's a very useful knife. It' simply the best.
Your Review
Highly Recommended !!! Definately Two Thumbs Up. BesT For Offroaders Stuck In Jungle !! Can't Wait Until I Collect ALL Include The PARANG BG !!! From Indonesia. Note: People WHO Give Low Rating, Prabably Don't Know How To Use It.. That ALL.
No matter how much i hate to say it because i like the show and thought it would have been better, good for rope not good for skinning or cutting animals, didnt even last for full deer. blade isnt as sharp or serated section not as strong as i would have i
My wife and I bought two. Both were unsharp. During our hike in Montana, mine lost a cerration and my wife bent the tip of hers. Most likely because it's made of substandard steel. Very desapointed.
Love it.
After using the knife for the first time, cerrations broke. The knife doesn't stay sharp either.
very good knife i wish it came in just a strait blade to
I've had this Knife for about 4 or 5 months now, and with it I've been on one minimal camping trip, and I carry it around on the farm (along with a multi-tool) but this knife has performed wonderfully! Haven't had a need to use any other blade. The one is
wow thats a nice knif !! youve got everything on it felicitation its a good one
I went to the woods with this knife right after I got it and i made a fire with no hastle. I also cut some branches easily and made a hut to sleep in.
Got the knife, could haw been sharper out the box,and the survival guide dont go in the pouch fully.
listen im a 13 year old boyscout we went last week on survival in the amazon we went in pairs of two all we had was a knife and a gps. i took this knife it saved my life. i killed 2 boars with it started fires and still was sharp
so now how old are you??
extremely good knife, the only problem is the hammer, 2 of the people i know that have bought this knife has problems with hammer it has broken of on bought of their knifes.
Hey,guy please get this problem fixed....i recently bowt your knife in South Africa and it wasnt sharp at all
awesome knife
I live in south Africa,I've got the knife for three months now,I use it a lot for hunting and working on the farm and I can't complane it's the best ever, buy one for your self and see it's garunteed, thanks Bear and Gerber!!!!
this is an all around good knife the only big problem I've been having is the front cover ok the knife that said Gerber likes to brake off I've gone throughout three sheaths in the 2 months I've had it. the serration is ok but it chips a little everyone i
Got my knife from Wal-Mart. Not a bad knife but there was NO instruction on how to use the fire starter. Does a person use the knife blade, a rock or what? The priorities for survival was a waste of paper.
I bought the knife at Cabellas with their recommendation.
I love the hammer on the handle edge, I have used it to pound many tent stakes. However every time i use the blade for stick/tree/wood cutting, the blade's edge chips very quickly. Also the fire-st
Good knife worth the $ for sure. a great pack knife. I have had it for 5 months and the only things left on is is the hammer and the sharpener. I killed this knife and its sheath and it still works like a dream. some times you will get a factor defect but
I purchased this knife from Wal-Mart and was extremely impressed. I am a fan of knives and have a vast collection. I was looking for a practical Fixed Blade Survival Knife and this one hit the nail on the head. The only other knife I considered was the
this knife sucks. the serrations broke off the first time i used it, the ferrocium rod doesn't work well, the sharpener doesnt sharpen, and the sheath is cheesy. spend the extra $$ and get the LMF II. much harder steel, but cuts through trees like butter
seems to be holding up well. extremely dull out of the box knocks a star off. buy i was able to put a great edge on it and it has retained it VERY well. i agree with the need for a replacement fire starter as well. diamond hone needs to be finer IMO (
I have one of these knives and I tried the fire starter (right fuel works great). I like the handle; the rubber makes for a very strong grip. the length of the blade seems great however it seems too soft. So i wonder if you're all about makin a quick buck
Most useful knife I've used by Gerber, as long as you know how to use it. My son broke the Ferrocerium fire starter after a week... but i used it primarily and didn't wear anything out yet. I've used it for about 5 months.
Need replacement fire starter!!!!!!!!
I have the upgraded version after the pummel broke off on first versions. Quaility was not job 1 for the first versions of this knife. My own second version the fire starter snapped almost immediately

this is a fun knife. I use this knife every day because I live in the woods and im always hunting and it comes in handy for lighting fires and the blade is easy to sharpen well worth the money
the grind is not even straight on the plain edge, and like FATIGUEMAN said the serrations are weak. I was just whittling some soft pine when the serrations chipped and broke. to go from bailey knives to this!? I really thought out of anyone, you would kno
Awesome. All i can say. Perfect for every task and adventure
Great Knife, Its sharp out of the package. Great shape. Love the soft grip handle and all the features. Sheath is nice also and has a soft touch finish to the plastic. Does Gerber sell replacement Fire Starters for when they wear out?
Horrible blade. Serrations broke. I can get a better Buck knife, a fire steel and a stone for less than $62.00.
As an avid hiker and all around outdoors type of person as well as a knife collector, particualrly those of Gerber. I can tell you with ultimate satisfaction how much i am impressed with this knife, its got everything you would want in a knife and much, m
Wow great knife i`ve used a lot of knives f Olsens to Buck KarBarbut this is every thing they say it is I love how the Ferrocerium rod locks into sheath, What more can i say it`s a GERBER
I Best knife I have used
I am impressed with everything gerber but this knife. should have come with a "If your not happy" guarantee and i would have sent it back. fire steel wouldnt even stay in the case like its supposed to.
Bought at walmart with my employee discount. I am an eagle scout and have had many a knife this one puts the others to shame. only recomendation is find a way to put the fire steen into a sheth on the butt of the knife
nailed it
All around great knife. gonna bring it overseas with me
Purchased this knife and got exactly what I wanted: A good knife that will be able to keep
up with you and all you adventures
Ordered the knife it came quick and looks and feels great. No issues with the serrated blade as some have posted or any other parts I think it will be a great knife for years to come.
It is a good Knife, but would like to suggest changing the way the Fire Starter opens. Currently it opens from down and in I my opinion it should be from up...by changing its position the risk of loosing it will be reduced...i have lost mine during a
This is a great knife at a great value. Gerber is trusted brand and all aspects of this tool are reliable.
I bought this knife to take to some survival training. i noticed right away that the knife was very dull. also after only 1 day of use three of the serrated teeth broke off. This knife is a great example of a good idea with poor execution. I have many ger
Not sharp. Serration not needed. What are you buying??? An expensive fire steel with a knife on it.
This is a survival knife, not a tactical knife. If you drop you blade in the water, you will welcome the colors. The Farro rod, whistle, survival guide and rescue sigs might save your life. Well done Grylls.
Every thing about is great but the serrations are easily bent.
The first day i bought this knife i ripped the stitch's out of the velcro and had to resew it back. Then a few days later i tried to strike the flint across the knife and it broke in half. Even though it can still strike a fire i now need to find a replac
The knife came in with a bent serration. The non serrated area has poor sharpness.
Shaving sharp out of the box. Great deal online. Very good package for the price!
Wish they had a non-serrated version.
Well crafted tool, for all purpose use from fishing, hunting,to surviving. Gerber always produces quality at affordable prices.
I would have bought two if they were black and grey instead of grey and "orange". :)
I purchased the knife today, out of the box I noticed right away that the sharpness was questionable. The serrations take too much of the blade and one of them was even slightly bent.
Overall, I would say that a company making “Survival Knifes” is
by far the best designed knife i've ever bought. especially for the price! very durable. this will last for years and years. can't wait to give it to my son in a few years.
This knife is one of best . Look no further you won't be disappointed. I researched many different brands and types of survivor type knifes. The ultimate is a buy for the price and features. Thank you Gerber and Bear Bravo!!!!
Very super duper ultra mega awesome knife!
For the price this knife is as good as it gets. The full tang blade is solid as a rock and the texture of the handle fits like a glove just pick it up and and you can tell its not just another preitty knife but its a tool built to
survive.actually," buil
well made and functional.
But the extra Bear-inspired features set it apart. There’s a small emergency whistle on the lanyard cord. The sheath and plastic scarab Velcro together. There’s a sharpening stone, the magnesium fire-starter stick, and land-to-air rescue instructions printed on the nylon sheath in case you need to communicate with a plane. The kit comes with a weatherproof survival guide that has Bear’s tips on how to make it in a worst-case scenario outdoors.
The Bear Grylls Survival Series Ultimate Knife is a solid-looking tool with some integrated survival staples like a firestarter rod in the nylon sheath, an emergency whistle attached to the lanyard and a diamond sharpener.
You'll almost certainly never be in a situation where your knife will be your chief survival tool. But when it is, you better have a damn good knife. Enter the Bear Grylls signature knife series from Gerber.
The Ultimate Knife is the real deal when it comes to outdoor utility.
Designed by Gerber and the Grylled one himself, this unique wilderness tool features a half-serrated high carbon blade, a stainless steel pommel at the base of the handle, an emergency whistle in the lanyard cord, and a host of goodies in the included sheath, like a fire starter, diamond sharpener, and Bear's Priorities of Survival pocket guide
Gerber’s Ultimate Knife stems from a collaboration with TV adventure star Bear Grylls. More than simply just a knife, it and its sheath make up a whole survival system.
The abundant and well-designed features of this knife really make it go above and beyond the average survival knife. The overall utility and usefulness of Gerber’s Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife make this one tool seem like a whole line of outdoor equipment.
Check out Bear and Jimmy Kimmel using the Ultimate Knife with the Fire Steel to start a fire on Jimmy’s desk.
Overall this is a great fixed blade knife. It has strength and accessories to live up to the survival knife name, at a price point that makes it an easy purchase to add to your hiking pack. You never know when you will need one of these add ons and you can do worse than picking up this great survival knife.
