Bear Grylls Survival Hatchet

A compact survival hatchet is worth its weight in lifesaving warmth and shelter. Especially when it weighs in at less than a liter of water, like the 1.4 pound. Bear Grylls Survival Hatchet designed by Gerber. The worse the weather gets, the more you’ll appreciate this sturdy little hatchet’s ability to turn out stacks of firewood or help you improvise a quick shelter.

Don’t let the compact size and slim profile of this hatchet fool you. With most of its heft concentrated in the head, it is definitely a tool that chops above its weight class. The 3.5-inch razor sharp blade is equally adept at limbing saplings as splitting logs. Combining Gerber’s decades of experience crafting tools with Bear Grylls’s adventure knowledge, the hatchet’s sturdy stainless steel, full-tang construction stands up to the hardest tasks.

The rubberized handle fills your hand to create a lock-tight grip that won’t let go even when wet. And finger notches just below the head let you choke up securely on the axe for more precise control when feathering kindling or stripping bark. There’s also a handy hole at the base of the handle to attach a lanyard for an extra measure of safety.

Opposite the blade, the back of the head features a crosshatched striking surface that can be used for all types of camp duties, from pounding tent stakes and straightening bent backpack stays to tenderizing meat.

When not in use, you can keep the blade sharp and safe inside its military-grade, mildew-resistant sheath, complete with loops that strap to your belt or pack. Plus, it comes with a copy of Bear’s “Priorities of Survival” Pocket Guide to help you focus your attention on the details that matter most when you are in a jam.

4 Great and Compact Scott - JUL 14, 2016

This is a great hatchet. It really chops well for its size. However you should be a little easy on the big branches because mine did chip. But still an overall great hatchet.

5 France Rick - JUL 9, 2016

Great small, light weight, sharp, solid hatchet. Use for back country hunting and camping. Does a good job on small chores At hunting camp from firewood to butchering. Won't go to the woods without it.

5 best axe - MAY 17, 2016

The Great Hatchet in the world and very strong still tools . great sharp use and need any people thank you

3 Not bad C. Moehl - FEB 19, 2016

I liked the hatchet at first. I took it backpacking, we used it to chop up some branches and now it has dings and gouges in the blade. Not sure why this happened, it was only wood. I would not buy this product again. I gave it three stars because it is small and compact, but now I will have to redo the blade to use it.

5 BEST HACHET EVER!!! Frank Middleton - NOV 9, 2015

It is a great hatchet that I hope to have for the rest of my life , great sheath great job GERBER

5 Sheath J.Taylor - JUN 21, 2015

Still going strong. Very High Quality. Only down side is the sheath. It needs one dome in the middle of the flap, because the Velcro loses its stick after a while.

5 10/10 J.Taylor - OCT 12, 2014

Awesome product! Got a few weeks back, it works like a charm. Any other hatchet can only dream of this quality.

2 good design but bad blase Sean - AUG 17, 2014

At first, it seems to have a sharp blade. However, it gets dull easily and the blade rolls over and chips. I used it for about 3 hours and the blade got damaged. It would have used baf steel because they did not sat anything about what the hatchet is made out of.
There are better hatchets in gerber like the gerber gator hatchet

5 Sturdy and Reliable Michael - MAY 21, 2014

I've had this little hatchet for a while now, and it is by far the best I've ever owned! It makes quick work of branches, of all sizes. One inch diameter branches fall with one well-placed hit; two and three inch branches still only take a few (to a little more than a few) strong hits to cut through. I stress tested it the day I got it on a *small* oak tree, roughly 6 inches in diameter, well beyond it's intended use. After a few minutes of quite the workout, the inspected blade was chip-free and still just as near razor sharp as it came with! It's solid tang construction makes you feel you can be as rough as you want with this little guy, and I expect to have this for the rest of my life! (It also makes a fun throwing axe, hehe)

This is hands down the best hatchet I have ever owned

5 Excellent Dan - FEB 8, 2014

Awesome chopping power! Holds it's edge very well. Small and light. A great survival tool!

5 Awesome!!! Matt - JAN 6, 2014

I got this for Christmas, and so far it is great!!! It has a great blade, especially since it has a full tang. But I HATE the sheath! But besides that, I love it!

5 wicked morgan - JAN 2, 2014

Really good hatchet the only thing that sucks is its hardish to get out but over all worth it!

4 Awesome!!!!!! Matt - JAN 2, 2014

This thing is awesome!! I love it and I would take it to any survival situation

5 Best hatchet ever!! Gerber buyer - JAN 1, 2014

This is by far the best hatchet ever. It is very durable and lightweight. The blade is sharp as heck and the handle is very grippy. The only downside is that the thread that holds the sheath together is fraying a little bit, but other than that it is amazing!!

Thanks Gerber!!

5 Excellent Helper Larry - DEC 26, 2013

I agree with the good things people are saying about this tool. It is good in the KITCHEN too. (wish I had a matching sheath for my Chef's Knife).

5 Great hatchet Some guy - DEC 26, 2013

I love this hatchet. I highly recommend buying this if you are camping or hiking. Don't let the weight of it keep you from buying it especially because it is lightweight and multipurpose. Thanks Gerber.

5 Woodsman Ranger Bob - NOV 14, 2013

I don't step outdoors without some Bear Grylls equipment on me. This hatchet is great and can substitute for a knife.

5 Great Product tayler-jerome - NOV 8, 2013

One of the first times I took it out of the sheath it knicked my finger and I bled everywhere! Thing comes sharp! Feels solid. Love the forward grip. Great size for hiking, survival / go bags etc.

4 Bear Approved! Mitchell - NOV 7, 2013

Out of the box, this hatchet looks, feels, and handles great! This tool comes amazingly sharp, in fact that you can widdle with this.
When I got this I was expecting to cut down a tree (big ego right!), but I soon learned that this was better for smaller tasks. It is great for getting kindling and fine shavings for starting fires.
Overall, this is a great hatchet! I always take it hunting with me because you never know...

5 Anotumus OmarAW - SEP 25, 2013

This is a amazing hatchet. It is not a traditional hatchet with a heavy head, but it cuts fairly well and is extremely lightweight. I have used it multiple times and had to get stitches after one! But I would highly recommend it Boy Scouts, but if you are looking for a traditional hatchet, try another of Gerber gears products

5 Amazing Brian - AUG 14, 2013

I bought this for back country camping, by far the best hatchet I have ever owned. Forward grip allows you to strip branches very quickly and easily. Hatchet is great for carving as well, balance offers great control for bulking.

5 Outdoorsman Chris Smith - JUL 25, 2013

The best survival hatchet that I have used. Durable one-piece construction that is practically indestructible. People need to read the description of the hatchet before they think they are going to chop down a redwood tree. Trust my life to this without second thoughts.

5 I don't owne this.. Face comment - JUL 18, 2013

3 Legend Tripper Robert Robinson - MAY 15, 2013

This axe is good for weekend camping. Because it's light in weight, it takes more effort to cut a tree down than using a regular sized axe. I tried it out on some lumber and it took a long time. I don't think I would use this on a large log or piece of wood.I put it in the back on my jeep as part of my emergency equipment. The Bear Grylls survivial knife cuts wood just as good as this axe. So if you already have the knife, you don't need this axe.

5 Can't wait Adam - APR 8, 2013

I can't wait for this to be available in stores!!!
