In 2008, Gerber engineered innovation in lighting with Omnivore Technology, Gerber's patent pending technology for variable-battery use. It’s skillfully applied in the Cortex Compact flashlight. With its sleek design, the Cortex Compact functions as a discreet, everyday carry light for tactical professionals, and a backup light for police officers.
HIGHLY ADAPTABLE FOR TACTICAL APPLICATION
Running on a single Lithium CR123 battery or a single AA battery, the Cortex Compact allows the user options given whatever power source is available. When powered by a CR123, the Cortex Compact provides 125 lumens of output, enough light to momentarily blind an aggressor's night-adapted vision. The Cortex Compact also provides a strobe mode for tactical applications, and a low-output mode for navigation. Housed within machined aluminum for strength and durability, and coated black for low visual signature when not in use, this solid 4-inch, 2.1 ounce light clips neatly inside pants pockets for quick access. The Cortex Compact flashlight is built in Portland, Oregon.
I've got this flashlight in 2014. Since than, I replaced it under warranty three times. Now it's not working again. The issue is either with the battery placement, or the button. The first had button problem in about a year of moderate use. The replacements worked for a month before the problem occurred. To date I spent almost a half of it's original cost for shipping to Gerber. Could spent this money for something else. I would never recommend it to anyone.
I received my Cortex as a gift from my daughter several years ago. It is the best pocket sized flashlight I have ever had. I carry it with me in all my work activities. It provides powerful illumination in all situations. It should be noted that when the battery is weak the flashlight doesn't operate. A fresh, newly made, quality battery has always solved that problem.
I used the flashlight to check some tools, after a few hours I tried to use it again and nothing happens. I opened the flashlight and readjust the battery. press the button and work it again, turned off and turned on again and the lamp is not working. Very dissapointed
Received this as a gift and had the same problem as Rob. Lasted maybe 2 minutes on high and now won't stay on unless I hold the button in. Completely useless. I'm am officially done with Gerber products - this isnt the first Correx I've had break on me. Unreliable.
Bought this a couple months ago and up until a few mins ago it worked great! I had it on for maybe 90 seconds on the high setting and it randomly turned off? Now it will only work if I press the button in. It's only been used a handful of times and not even through a battery of use time. For the price, for it to stop working like it did I'm pretty pissed. Normally 5.11 has high quality products but this one fell short.
Best little EDC light I've owned! First I lost it in my back acreage and several days later one of my dogs found it and dropped it on our deck. It rained a couple times over that period but it still worked. Then the real test, I thought lost it once again working on my riding mower on the same piece of land, but it was actually in the pocket of my bib overalls. It was found when my wife pulled the bibs out of the dryer and they were glowing. It was the flashlight, turned on and working! This little light went through a machine wash and spin cycle, then at least forty minutes in the hot dryer. The battery was weak but after replacing it, it works like new. Without a doubt the best little flashlight I've ever owned. I put as much value on this little bugger as I do the Swiss army knife I've carried for over thirty years. If I lose it again, I'm ordering a new one immediately, worth every penny!!!
