I have used 4 types of different multi-tools and was issued a Gerber MP-600 by the forces and I fell in love with the one handed opening plus the fact that it's made of stainless so no matter what it won't rust. Then the center-drive came.... :O. It does have a few flaws, the cutters could be improved, the pliers are not the most solidly built especially for serious twisting but thats an issue all one handed opening kind have in my opinion and weirdly if the inner bit holder isn't properly seated it makes the pliers hard to deploy. HOWEVER the rest totally makes up for it, the screw driver especially is very practical and the mini prybar/ bottle opener is quite a nice touch. Any one looking for a multi-tool, I seriously recommend this one.
Blade broke off hinge less then a year. Can't purchase bit set separately.
I'm working in the Offshore Industry on so called towed equipment like ROV's etc. If we get one of these instruments on deck, things usually have to happen quickly and efficiently. To free our gear from the ever - present plastic rubbish the external blade is ideal. I actually bought the tool because of the center drive, as I've slipped off enough screw/bolt heads already, there the center drive comes in very handy.
After using the tool on the back deck for some weeks and regularly cleaning it from salt water spray and oiling it the 'stickiness' of the pliers has gone away completely. All in all, a great tool! Thanks Gerber!
This was given to me for Christmas and I've had it for a year.
I've worn a Gerber for over 20 years and this one doesn't measure up.
The carbide wire cutter has broken off and the interchangeable flat screwdriver fell out and has never been found.
I like the one-hand opening of a Gerber so I'll probably go back to one of the basic multi tools.
This is my 3rd multi tool from Gerber. I love it. its much improved from my last one. after using it for 6 months the only thing bad I can say is that I keep losing the spare bit for the center drive. Other then that Its be best of the 3 I have owned and used.
Done right... I've been looking for a real working knife/tool. I'm finally done looking, nice job guys.
Had it about an hour and the spring in the pliers has already failed and it is difficult to deploy the pliers. I really wanted to love this tool but between the spring failure (which also makes the inner tools more difficult to get out because they hit the body if you don't pull it open really wide), hard deployment, the blade being stiff to deploy, and having a sharp edge in the knife's opening hole, I just can't recommend this one. Sorry guys but this one is a miss for me.
Just got this Christmas Eve. I'm 56 and have had two other multi tools, this baby is hands down way nicer and better built, it better last. This tool is so handsome and rugged. I have wanted a Gerber for many years and needed to replace my old Multi-Tool and there was no other option than the Center Drive 30-001194N, it REALY looks nice on my belt nest to my BG Gerber Survival Knife.
I have owned my center drive with bit set for several months. I'm very happy overall and I use it several times a day when at work. My only gripe is the Velcro closure on the flap of the sheath. It has come open several time and dropped the tool. I removed the Velcro and installed a heavy duty snap. Problem solved.
My wife bought me to as a birthday present. The best multi tool I have used. But it has some downsides. The knife was horribly dull and still had a ton off metal shavings attached to the blade. As far as the bits go, they seem to be made from a soft metal and the flat head warped after one use. Otherwise a great tool, just wish it was ready to go out of the box.
Best multi I've owned. Everyday carry. It even kicked my trusted charge xti out and into the drawer with the sog.
Last elk season, one of the hunters in my party needed to adjust the position of his scope, and none of us had the right tool to do so, which set us back while he went and bought one so he could zero before he went to our camp. This year, I bought the Center-Drive to make sure I wouldn't have a problem while zeroing or on my solo bear hunt. I was happy to see that the included bits fit my scope.
I've also used it for a surprising number of other things, including minor iPhone work, dog gear repair, and anything my fingers are too big to do. It's the best multi tool I've ever had.
The best multi-tool I have ever owned!! The implementation of standard drive bits and the Center Drive arm are truly what makes this awesome. That, and the fact all of the tools used most are accessible w/o having to open this multi-tool really set it apart. Gerber's customer service is equally great. When I purchased this, I found it was packaged with the desert sheath as opposed to the black multi-mount sheath I was expecting. When I called about this, the sheath was exchanged w/o any problems. The only things I would change are making the file saw toothed and replacing the awl with a hook style can opener that could still double as an awl. These are definitely not deal breakers. I love this thing.
I have had a Leatherman,and a couple of MP400/600. This is the best tool so far. Especially with the tool kit.
Literally the most badass fing tool I've ever had. where was this in 04? This should be issued to us marines.
Just received the center driver and am very impressed. I forgot how much I use my screw driver and the driver on this tool is second to none. I also love the bit set, brilliant
The Center Drive has held up very well to the conditions I have used it in. From fixing the Carburetor in the boat motor, to crimping wire sleeves on leaders, un-hooking fish...just been nice having the one tool on my belt that can handle 90% of the work instead of switching from one tool to the next and losing them along the way. Good multi-tool for everyday use. Favorite feature is the easy one hand opening.
