MEET GERBER
Rigorously tested and backed by Bear, the watertight construction of this tool makes it a convenient one to have on hand. With at least 8,000 strikes to provide a spark, it is an indispensable insurance policy to have in the event you need fire for warmth or food.
Details:
Small and compact, the Fire Starter offers years of use. Watertight construction keeps tinder safe and dry, so when you need it, you can trust it. This tool has been rigorously tested to determine that it will provide a spark for 8000+ strikes. Take the easily-carried Bear Grylls Fire Starter with you no matter where you plan to end up for non-stop survival insurance.
Me pareció excelente, el fire starter es muy práctico, muy agradable las señales de SOS, la impermeabilidad del empaque se agradece, pues puedes llevar llesca, o algodón, el rascador es muy superior a los comunes, quede encantada...!!!
Since it is an 15 dollar fire starter, the money is in the quality of the product. The sparks are amazing when you strike the ferro rod, and this is an amazing product.
I have had mine for 3 years and the cap that stores tinder comes off by itself sometimes bit the fire steel itself is a monster and I recommend it
This thing is a spark monster. I have never failed to start a fire with it. Durability is excellent. I also like the spot for storing tinder and the fact that it is waterproof. Please do not ever discontinue this item!
This is a great and useful tool for starting fires. I have always carried waterproof matches, but this works 110 times better. I will be carrying this on every hike/adventure I go on from this point forward. The only thing I did not like was the cord, but I replaced it with a longer piece of paracord with a couple of snake knots on the end and it works great.
Best firestarter I have so far. The concept of the rescue signals, whistle and cord is great. The only issue is that the tinderbox was hard to find and hard to open when I got it. But all in all it is a great firestarter.
Best fire starter i have bought. You get a very big piece of ferrocerium and tinder department. the whole tool is waterproof and very durable. Highly recommend for survivalist, backpackers, boy scouts, campers, and bush crafters
I got this for survival. its defenitly is durable and can throw lots of sparks. cotton is the best fire tinder for this. if your just camping for a little while just bring a lighter but anymore use this its alot of fun to see a spark catch and you get a fire.
thanks gerber keep it up
On my first glance on the fire starter, I thought that it was not worth the value with such a small (in my opinion) ferrocerium rod for the price, But because of the cool rugged look, i had to buy it. But after using it for the first time, I was totally amazed of how fast this little thing set tinder on fire compared to the others. and I really liked the waterproof cap. I introduced this to my team members and they also found it awesome. I totally recommend this to any adventurer outside.
best fire starter out there this is the thickest ferro rod compared to others did tests on waterproof abilities and started many campfires it turns heads as it bears the BG logo on it i loved man vs wild and want it to return.
The best fire starter toil I've ever had. Tinder bundle of dried grass, tree bark fibers...two strikes and I had fire! Great tool
this thing works great no matter what the conditions love it going to get another one for my Technical Rescue Team bag and i have one for my hiking bag
At my local outdoor shop i can get it for $35 Australian dollars so i am going to buy it on-line I rate it 5/5 stars it is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!
neither the package nor the inclosed Pocket Guide explain the how-to of the 'waterproof storage compartment for Tinder'.
I really didn't want to buy another cheap gimmicky, sponsored piece of gear, but I decided to give this thing a try after reading some good reviews on Amazon and REI. Man, was I wrong. This thing is the real deal. It's a little big, but every time I've tried to start a fire with it, I've been successful. It's waterproof, the lanyard keeps the parts from getting lost, and the tinder storage was a nice surprise. My wife got this for me for Christmas, but I didn't find the tinder storage until 6 months later.
It's feature rich, rugged, and it does what it's designed to do. And it's backed by the good Gerber name. That's all I need.
was given to me as a gift. would be really cool idea to include some kind of instructions on how to use this tool for those of us who didnt see it on television. fortunately i lkmow how to find info on interent and found a video describing how to use this tool. i tried it and it worked just fine. would have given it 5 stars if it had instructions with it in or on package.
It's a fire starter and I cant complain, but the edge is junk and would be much better with a hack saw bit, the signals on the side were interesting, and the guide has been on my wallet since i got it, could also do with a magnesium starter somewhere, integration wouldn't seem difficult for Gerber
With all of the reviews I have read from 5 different websites, it is a GREAT product recommending it to all.
Just got mine yesterday, it's an awesome fire starter. Creates spark really well, but one thing I gotta complain is that the plastic handle is really low quality, or shall I say cheaply made? Improve quality please.
If you hold the striker in your weak hand at a 70 degree angle and pull the ferro rod backwards under the striker, you get a ton of sparks with very little effort. Started a fire with two strikes. If you want a quality, affordable, functional firestarter, buy it.
I have been searching on youtube for reviews on this and I have seen quite a lot. I am very satisfied with the features and I have ordered it but has not come yet but I know till then it will be a very nice fire steel. It is taking quite a long time for it to come to me but I'll do anything for one.
The mag strip is good, the striker is a piece of junk and broke off the handle within a week of purchasing it.
The only bad thing about it is that the lanyard is really cheaply made. It broke after the first five minutes, but it is otherwise a great product.
Constructive suggestion...The amount of spark can be tremendously improved with some sharpening of the striker or perhaps one of stronger metal. I tried several other strikers and my ultimate pro knife on the ferro rod and all produced superior sparks to the included striker. In an effort to improve the situation I took a dremmel to the included striker and sharpend it. I was immediately impressed with the improvement in performance. I have to admit I was quite dissapointed until I sharpened the striker. Please consider this issue and make the necessary improvements
Have used this in all possible conditions to start fire; humid, raining, snowing, sunny (of course) and even in temperatures below -40 degrees Fahrenheit in less than 5 minutes! This item will not let you down no matter what situation you are in.
Great fire steel. I used when I went camping and had great results. It produced quit a bit of sparks and it was fairly easy to light things and very easy to use. Although there was not much space to put tinder and the rescue signals are kind of fading. Although I really liked the whistle which was nice and loud. I do highly recommend this item. :)
I use this a lot in backcountry situations and it has been awsome for all of them it's easy to use and it is tough and long lasting I've had mine for two years and it still has a long life a head
i really like it you do have to scrape of the black outer protective layer. it is awesome. whistle works really good
This is a great metal match. Easy to use, well made, and I like that the two pieces are attached to keep them together. There are less expensive fire starters out there, but after a week at scout camp and trying different types, this one was by far the best. If you need a fire, this is the one that will give you one every time.
I have it because I work for a company where i constantly drive & Ihave been stranded for hours before. you never when your going to need something so useful. it packs nicely in my lunchbox & along with it I have survival kit, first aid & knife sharpener.
My review on this tool is its compact its a really good fire starter and when i went out to a new zealand jungle, the amount of times a old swedish fire starter wouldn't work for me but then in the end i gave this one a shot and i cannot believe the amound of times it worked. about 2-3 times it took to start a fire, really impressed and a very, very good tool.
It's brilliant because when you strike bit's of magnesium comes off making the spark bigger and more powerful so the tinder ignites better than normal flint strikers
This is a very compact way to carry a dependable, waterproof, fire starter that I have started several fires with in the wild. The lanyard is also convenient if you need some string/cordage for a small job. Overall, I would give 5/5! Keep up the good work Gerber!
would have givven but the rod popped out however it just put it back in. that's the only flaw other than that it has no problems. HOT sparks!! great product
This tool is great for bug out bags! It's lightweight, compact and easy to use.
I'm very happy that the ferrocerium rod doesn't fall out or even wiggle when you strike it. So you don't have to worry about it falling out. Also the storage compartment is a great place to hold fire tinder(cotton ball) and the sparks work very well too. Now this is a awesome piece of gear from Gerber.
I have heard a number of people remark say that you need to scrape of the coating on this starter before you can get a good strike on it. This has not been my experience. My first try with this piece was like lighting up a sparkler. The construction is a bit bulky but this makes it have a good grip and sturdy. Not a pack light item, but almost a necessity for any main kit.
I think it looks great and works well, but my mom would not let me. As a former boy scout for 4.5 years I think that I will need it alot and that my mother is wrong
Nice survival tool but its a bit bulky.
if its not working try scratching the black paint
on the rod and then striking
Varey cool cold hav had some moure room in the storing cuntaner thing but u cude still fit about 1 and 3corters cotenball cool cool cool
I bought this several months ago and I love it. I don't care for how bulky it is. I would rather have the same ferrocerium rod in a simple handle, but this steel lights tender better than my swedish firesteel army 2.0
I just got this in the mail today, and I love it. Feels great in your hands, and feels very secure.
I bought this for $10 on Amazon and it's well worth it, I might buy another.
I am a little worried that over time the little knobs that snap the 2 sections together will wear thin and not be as secure but for the time being...great.
Also the tinder chamber is a nice touch, I bought a $3 SOL Tinder Refill Pack, just to store inside this piece, they work awesome and burn for a few minutes.
The whistle is effective, when I use it my dog comes running, lol.
The only thing I really wasn't feeling about the whole setup was the Lanyard. I understand it's designed to keep everything together, but I feel like it just gets in the way. I snipped it off...
Good sparks and dependable for camp or a survival situation!
fire starter works great but the lanyard needs to be longer took 3 strikes to light some birch bark without a problem and the ferrocerium rod needs to be longer
i used this very good fire starter when i went camping a number of times and even when i go hunting and i had to camp out for the night. i glad i had it. now i always keep in near me, no matter were. great tool i would recommend it to anyone!! well done Gerber =D
Well like otthe most importent tools others i feel fire starting tools are some of the most importent of tools to bring while camping or any other activity that reguires fire. And it is very very impressof it at least 5 times better then my other flint and steal witch is a name prand prouduct and is very hand that it comes with a wistle annd it closes to fit better in a pack or even in your pocket. I bought it along with all other bear grylls products so i could right reviews on them and it keeps just living up to the legend that is the bear grylls that we all know and love
It's great! I splayed out out a few cotton balls in a backyard fire pit, with dry wood and a handful of brush atop, and watched the pluck of cotton tinder set it all aflame. Picked mine up at Gander Mountain - only $12.99. I recommend it to anyone who wants a reliable fire starter. I re-stringed mine with parachord 550 and made a necklace. Can't wait to pick up a survival knife next.
Works great! Patience and Persistence helps. I also found that if you grind the striker and make the edges a litter sharper, it works even better at making sparks.
Tried this fire starter when camping up North Vancouver Island. Had watched the short video before - which was worth while.
Fire was going well in a few minutes! Used a bit of paper tissue plus dry leaves & small twigs.
Excellent bit of kit.
This tool is very important for survival.I went camping last week and this tool was amazing!!!My tinder lighted up in about 2-3 strikes and im getting your ultimate knife soon.Thank you Bear.
Great Quality Item. I just wish there would be a small compartment for cotton balls & a small compass. eBay has some fire starters for $1 with a compass attached to them.
great fire starter! and yes buy it now. i take it in all my adventures. believe me or not i actually had to use the whistle to be found.
perfect i kayaked on a small island with no cotton balls get a fire started kept me warm if i was therefor longer i know fire was with me at all times good thick ferrocium rod watertight even with the cotton ball compartment nice whistle and alternatives to cotton balls are birds nest dead grass any thing like that is good
i like the firesteel but it doesn't seam to produce as hot of sparks as a light my fire rod or a strike force rod
this is the only bear grylls item i have that has let me down a little bit. its a very good quality striker and firesteel, but it wont ignite anything but the cotton balls. it wont ignite anything unless its SUPER fiine. still, i do really like it and would recommend it.
i think its looks amazing. im going up north to camp and im going to buy this. and i am going to buy the bear grylls pocket knife
OMG how useful this tool is.It is great for warming yourself up and cooking pieces of food. Its very useful, trust me
Upon opening of the package you can tell this is a quality product. Of course Gerber doesn't make anything else. Now teamed up with BG what more could you ask for.
Water proof, plenty of room for cotton balls, the sparks from the striker are really great. I start fires first strike all the time. Excellent design. Whistle works great and its built to last.
i have this fire starter and i can not get away
from it. it makes heaps of sparks and it is not to dangerous.
An incredibly handy tool, it's small enough to fit in a pocket but will start a fire as good as any lighter. The waterproof design and tinder compartment make this indispensable for any hiking or camping kit. If you need to start a fire look no further than the Bear Grylls Fire Starter.
Easy to use but has a protective cover but once through that works like gold and a very convenient hole to put your cottonball in
tis is a very good fire starter. it was difficult to use at first but go easier after i got used to it. one downside is that the rod is a little bit short and would be hard to use if you have big hands.
I bought one yesterday and i tried it to start a firePratice is surely needed before going on exercise cuz it takes me few strike to get it right but after no problem i was just super happy to light a fire this way . realy a nice tool that worth the $
this is the best firesteel i ever owned. it has rescue signals, whistle, watertight, and tinder. what other firesteel has that? with a strike i get fire. it shoots a fireball. i even set my sock on fire when testing it in the house. worth the $.
At first I loved this piece. It looks cool it has useful features. After using it in the field I feel it is unreliable with such small sparks, and I think it comes with cotton because that is all it can light. I am not professional by any means but I did a side by side with another ferrocerium rod and the other got my fire going no problem while this one couldn't even get an ember. It's a good backup
This is the most epic thing ever! it keeps tinder dry, and real thick striker! highly recomend! I am really good with this stuff so i would know!
This is a great fire starter. It produces a great spark every time and the fact that's it's water tight is nice because you don't have to worry about drying it if it got wet in your pack.
I used to have a five dollar Colmen magnesium fire starter, I HATE IT! I am an experienced eagel scout and I am great at using fire starters. But this one would only shoot 2 or 3 sparks at a time. My Bear Grylls fire starter shoots out a fire ball!!
Uma fantástica ferramenta de sobrevivência. Fiz alguns testes; minha esposa e meu filho conseguiram fazer fogo sem qualquer dificuldade. Muito bom. Recomendo.
A fantastic tool for survival. I did some tests, my wife and son were able to make fire without any difficulty. Very good. Recommend.
Je suis tres content du produit!!!
Robuste, et fait des étincelles du premier coup!!! Et son compartiment imperméable fait de lui un produit de QUALITÉ.
Merci Gerber et Bear Grylls
I've owned and used a Gerber Strike Force fire starting system for many years. Bought one of these for EDC kit in my rig. The ferro rod is generous enough for many hundreds of strikes, more than I'll likely ever need. Should last for years.
This man's a genius. From what I see on his shows, you need to simply just angle the stroke near the end, and you'll feel the resistance. To those saying this product did not work, it must be in your technique, or a simple manufacturer defect. Trustworthy tool, and the extra compartment for tinder is genius. The whistle is cool too, but is piercing, which may or may not be a good thing. Just a heads up, but i find that there are only advantages to any of Bear's products.
It works quite well, providing some impressive sparks, but it would've been nice if Gerber gave it a larger storage compartment. Also, some technical advice for Gerber: if I engineered this device, I would've made the starter-rod be able to come out so that you can turn it around and use the length of the rod that is stuck in the handle.
I bought this a year or so ago, and it's the best fire steal I've ever had! Then I accidentally left it in my back pack at the airport and I had to throw it away. But is is the first fire steal I've had that successfully lit a fire in one strike. Marvelous.
PLEASE RESTOCK SO I CAN GIVE YOU MY MONEY!
I bought this unit believing it was high quality due to the reputation and experience of the man who is endorsing it. It is without a doubt the worst fire striker I have ever used. I will be returning it to Gerber. The problem is the metal striker.
carry it all the time . I work out doors alot comes in handy on cold winter days when you don't have a lighter or matchs thanks again
im a big fan of bear, and this i an amazing tool ive had it for ages and it lights in about 2-3 strikes buy it guys!!!
From what i heard it looks great. Im looking to buy this because i have the ultimate survival kit and first time using it the flint shaft came off. But this looks much more sturdy!

it is a brilliant piece of equipment i am a big fan of bear he is a role model to me.maybe could of came with a few more cotton balls
Dear Sir or Madam
I wish to advise of a problem with the metal striker on the survival series fire starter. I gave this device to my spouse as a gift to help complete an emergency kit for her 4 wheel quad. Both of us are avid outdoors people with years of experience in Canada's North. We were on a trip and tried to use the fire starter and could barely get a showere of sparks. In fact I could not get enough spark to light a cotton ball. It appears the striker is too smooth. I could remedy this by filing it down or putting a sharp edge on it, however I feel I should not have to modify a new piece of equipment. I was going to give my two daughters these fire starters for Christmas but decided against it as I would not want them to depend on it in an emergency situation. Please advise as to how we can rectify the problem. I have several pieces of Mr. Grylls equipment and feel this one slipped past quality control
the fire starter is brilliant but maybe it could come with a spare flint stick but thank you bear and gerber!!
This fire starter is very nice and sturdy. I have used this many times on my camping trips. It has not let me down at all. You will not regret buying this product.
Amazing product! I have put it to the test and it just blows the doors off anything else. 100%. If you are unsure of purchasing; I promise you won't regret!
It produces good sparkles and it's easy to use. Dry compartment and whistle are a plus. O-ring came off while using it, just FYI.
