The angler who is hiking in by dense trail, wading into a rushing current, or battling a kayak for that elusive catch demands more from their gear – it has to be multi-functional and worth its weight. A fishing tether ultimately has one job - to secure gear – but if that job is done right it can also offer peace of mind and added functionality.

Both the large and compact Defender tethers were designed with control in mind, anchored by the tip control carabiner that both versions boast. This carabiner slips on finger to absorb the tension of the line and allow for ease of use when operating the tethered tool.

The compact Defender is ideal for keeping fishing gear close at hand or on body, with a 36” Dyneema cable that is better suited for lighter tools. The smaller size lends itself to an additional mounting option, a threaded pin that can attach directly to a shirt, coat, or wader strap. A slip lock holds the carabiner in place when not in use.

Gerber tools are built to last a lifetime. To ensure optimal performance, rinse your tool with fresh water and dry thoroughly with a clean towel. Apply oil to hinges and moving parts on a regular basis.

I use the defender compact to keep my company badge secure. I work in a sensitive environment where you have to be identified by ID at all times. The ID is also the only way to log into our computers and open doors. So its important to me to ensure that its safe and secure. I know this is not what it was designed for but it works a lot better than those cheap plastic reels.

A smaller reel than the defender compact would be even better. Maybe Gerber will one day come out with a line of "bad ass office accessories" for those of us that fly a desk for a living.
