I got one of these for a 20"AR with a Leopold scope. Works well on each art of the rifle and fits into the Magpul MIAD grip with a small sample bottle of oil I got at Shot Show that stops the rattle some folks have talked about.
This thing is bad ass, weighs nothing, works well, and I'm stoked I got one.

The fastener that acts as the mounting point for the 3/4" wrench does not have the strength to permit the tightening or removal of the flash hider. It just rotates, rendering it ineffective.

In a pinch, it's good for cleaning milspec firing pins and a sight adjustment tool. Outside of that, it's not a very useful tool at $50. It has been removed from the range bag and placed into the part of the tool box where dashed hopes go to die.

Received my Short Stack yesterday and installed my Law Tactical folding stock adapter with ease using it as an armorers tool! Excellent solid state tool and can't wait to put it to use more often!

Great product Gerber

  • |BY: , Good, but needs bolt tail scraper!

This is a great little tool, but...
This fits well in a magpul MIAD grip but I can't find a way to get it in there with zero rattle. it doesn't rattle all over the place or anything, but it's not perfect either. I also wish they made some kind of plug to make this fit USGI pistol grips. This is a great little cleaning tool for a soldier.
However, the main issue I have with it is that it does not have a bolt tail scraper. This is one of the biggest pain in the rear bits to clean (especially in the field) and would be a perfect thing to have on here. To me, this fills the role of the CAT tool and its clones but fits in the pistol grip and has more functions. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the bolt tail scraper of the CAT type tools and so can't actually replace them. I can't think of any time that I have ever messed with my buffer tube nut in the field, but I have to scrape the bolt tail all the time...

  • |BY: , Good idea poor execution

I order the short stack so I'd be able to install mybown flash hider and have an AR tool for other needs. The video above shows the wrench going on the various nuts/bolts and states that it provides the proper torque to remove them. I noticed that video doesn't actually demonstrate the removal of any bolts and I assume because it's down right impossible with the short stack. Not only is the wrench too short, the various edges are sharp making it hard to grip. Also the hex key slides out of the handle too easily making removing any screws a chore. The only thing the short stack is good for is being used as a scraper to clean your firing pin/bcg.

I was given one of these for Christmas and I have to say, I`m very impressed. Gerber is continuing their long history of innovation with the Short Stack. My only gripe is that the flash hider wrench is a bit flimsy, but that can probably be remedied by tightening the hold on the rifle, not the tool.

I just got my short stack. I haven't put it through all the paces yet but I have already found that the front sight tool doesn't work with my HK style front sight. The sight tool is too short and the pins to engage the sight are too large, the body of the tool doesn't allow it to turn and adjust the sight. Also the bolt scraper/ tool handle is loose and wobbly. It appears to me the hex part is too long and has bottomed out against the screw.
