Inspired by the Torch I, this version employs G-10 inserts in the handle for additional grip in tricky situations. A matte black tanto blade is stealth and effective, easily opened with one hand courtesy of dual thumbstuds or a finger flipper.
Rick Hinderer designed this matte black tanto blade featuring a dual thumbstud for one-handed opening and a finger flip that doubles as a finger guard. The Torch II contains G-10 inserts in the handle that ensure a safe, secure grip and includes a pocket clip for easy carry and storage.
I really liked the design and sturdy feel, but in the end it failed. The blade become a loose when locked, the torx screws aren't proper sized so screwdrivers would either slip or not fit. The clip sticks out too far and snags on things, and ultimately the liner lock broke off. Cheap build and material quality
I love this knife had it for years and a deployment the only thing I would change is the clip it sticks out and gets caught on everything but I still love it
Was wondering about the frame lock at first, but now after several deployments my fears are unfounded.. one of the best pocket blades i have owned..
Haven't even used the knife yet; liner lock has already warn the bottom of the blade. I'm worried that if the wear continues, the blade might not lock as intended.
The blade has also become quite loose. Keep in mind this is only after one day. Very disappointing for a $75 (CAD) knife. I've easily had better $20 knives in the past.
However, it fits nicely in the hand.
Has been my EDC for many years now, it has never failed me. Perfect weight and balance, comfortable in hand and easy one handed open. Locks open great and holds its edge incredibly well. Only thing id like to see different is a glass punch and/or a belt cutter added to it.
Excellent knife. I've had mine for a couple of years now. Razor sharp. Holds an edge. Easy to sharpen. Very comfortable. I have many knives and this is my favourite.
Best pocket folder I've ever owned. A workhorse. Still give it five stars, but the clip literally broke on the car seat the other day. Have carried for a few years. Blade holds and a great tactical clip knife. Highly recommend. Now let's see if the Lifetime warranty is as sturdy! I'll let you know!
Love this knife it is defiantly useful, due to its serrated blade. Comes sharp out of the box, so you don't have to sharpen it right away. I have had this for over a year now and it is still really sharp will usage through the year. I have used this to cut some twigs to big branches and the knife has no issue cutting through the wood. The pocket clip for me is very convenient. Great balance and weight to the knife and completely Canadian street legal (for use as a tool not self defense). A good strong lock mechanism that is reliable, earned 5 stars
Surprisingly solid especially for a folder. Love that the hinge can be adjusted to keep a preferred resistance. The dual thumb clip makes opening very easy but its the finger/ thumb clip that makes the knife so quick and comfortable. Had mine for about 2 years now and the only difference since the the day i bought it is that the finish is rubbing off but that's expected after so long. Basically, if you want a professional and discrete folder that you can have confidence in if shit hits the fan then BUY THIS KNIFE
Best knife that I have come across yet. The belt clip is especially handy and the blade is amazing. This knife has performed very well for me. It has not failed to perform when needed for whatever I may need.
I've had this knife for a number of years, so long that i can't remember life without it. I've carried it every single day, at work, and off duty. The clip bends, I just bend it back. It still holds firmly. The finish wears off. Mine is almost silver now. If you have the small screwdrivers need to maintain it, and understand how to adjust the blade tensioner, this knife will last you a very very long time.
I may order 2 more, just in case I lose this one and Gerber decides discontinue it. It's my favorite knife I've ever owned.
I lost a screw in the clip the other day, I immediately emailed Gerber, and 3 days later, I had 2 new screws, and a new clip. I only needed one screw, but I'll take it! Outstanding customer service.
I'd love to have this knife with a seatbelt cutter and a window punch. The only two things that could make it better for me.
Great knife design, highly ergonomic. The action is extremely smooth making one handed deployment fast and simple. Lock up is solid. So over all a great affordable EDC.
That being said there are a few improvements that I would make.
1.) As everyone else said the clip is garbage. It bends too easy and it would be nice if Gerber would switched it to a point up carry and made it reversible for lefties.
2.) A higher quality steel would be much appreciated as well. I understand this would drive the price up but the design is deserving of better materials.
In my opinion this knife could use a blade bolt / screw that can be tightened. I know one thing that discourages me from buying a knife is that the blade can't be tightened.
I own several Gerber kinves great product this one is my fav i have an older torch this kife has held up to everything ive put it thru and im not easy on my gear only problem i had was the i lost the belt clip.
I own several Gerber knives and tools. They're in my car, my packs and pockets always. This is one knife that is my personal assistant and insurance policy every single day. I love the one handed opening that doesn't rely on a switch mechanism. It's lasted me a long time and sharpens easily and always keeps it's edge. Simple, get it.
I really like this knife. It holds a nice edge, good weight and feel. Opens smoothly. Clip broke easily though.
Great knife for EDC. Handle and hilt are perfect for self protection. Finger guard really locks in your hand for little slippage. One hand use is very easy.
The clip for pocket carry is CHEESY!!! It doesn't hold up to EDC and WILL break or bend in time. Once that happens, it must be carried inside a pocket, making it harder and longer to deploy.BAD FORM! Gerber makes quality gear so I can't figure out why they used an INFERIOR clip. I would like to order a couple replacements but don't think Gerber offers them. This would be a HANDS DOWN five star pocket knife if not for the lousy, cheap, thin pocket clip.
I have had the older version of this knife for 5 years now, and after some 16 other knives I bought over the years, I haven't had anything better in my pocket since. My one gripe for this knife however is that it is only available in this combo tanto edge, At times it would be better to have a longer fin edge, since it's a tanto you have less room for a long clean cut. I hope that eventually they make a Torch III with a fine edge. Also I have bought the Torch I and it is much too small for this purpose.
Love this knife had one for some time lost it due to belt clip getting loose and looking through other brands and other Gerbers I certainly would buy another
I use a knife every day at home and at work where my EDC is in my hand at least once or twice per hour. This knife holds its own and has put to shame some brands that my surprize you. I bought this knife immediately after the salesman dropped it in my hand, and hasn't left a pocket since.
This is my favorite knife. I've an older one that's about 5-6 yrs old. It takes a sharpening well and the weight is perfect for me. Love the one- handed opening. Also, this is the only knife I ever owed where my GF said, "that is one bad-ass knife"
Great edge right out of the package, really like how heavy it is and it is very fast and easy to open. Love this Knife!
I bought one of these online about 2 years ago and this is my favorite knife out of all I've ever owned. I carry this everywhere and use it for everything. It doesn't hold a razor edge for very long but stays plenty sharp for months. It has never chipped, bent, or had any of the clip problems others have mentioned. One handed opening/closing is very easy. On top of all of the usefulness and reliability, it just looks awesome.
i have had this knife 2 years and i absolutely love it. i probably use this knife every other day, if not every day. as some have said the edge retention is not the best, i have to sharpen it every few months or so. (i sharpen it at 20 degrees). opening the knife is still smooth as ever and i have gone swimming/kayaking and hunting with this knife many times. the frame lock seems really tough, and the finger guard makes me feel safe. ( friend's frame lock failed and it was a mess...wasnt a gerber btw). the coating on the knife is awesome, my father has a 20 yr old gerber multitool with a similar coating and its still working. the knife has a very solid feel to it and feels very nice when holding it and i personally like the clip its not too tight or too loose. finally here is what i dont like about the knife, its heavy. the clip came loose 2 months after i bought but i tighten it and havent had any problems with it or any other screws, and as i already said the edge retention is not the best. its worth the $50
had the knife for about 5 months and it has been amazing. the blade is amazing and really holds an edge even when being used everyday. the pocket clip did come loose but thats what red locktite is for... would recommend it to anyone.
Had this knife for six or seven years now, beat the crap out of it but it's holding up great. (i actually left it outside for a over a year, completely exposed to the elements. I just cleaned it up, and it bounced right back) I had to put in some locktite into the screws so they'd hold better, but after that was done it's perfect. Easily the best knife I've ever owned. Real easy opening, and even though it isn't spring, it looks like it is. Overall great knife
I beat the hell out of this knife. It goes everywhere with me. love how the blade holds an edge.....but there is an issue. the whole dang on thing is falling apart!! still I feel I got my money out of it. Plus the warrantyon it.
My only complaint is the pocket clip. after a while the clip came became loose. I tried tightening it but the odd star shap size was difficult in tightening the screws.
This is a real solid knife, but the clip on this thing is truly awful. And the placement of the clip simply couldn't be worse. If I was left handed, then the clip would align with my left fingers perfectly, but I'm not, and as a result, the clip does not allow for a flush fit in the palm of my right hand. Even worse, I can't get the damn thing off because of the Torx bit size is somewhere between a 6 and 7. If you are LEFT HANDED and considering purchasing, then I highly recommend it, 5 Stars. But for me (and the rest of the right-handed world), the clip is such a nuisance, I really wish I could just return it.
I have been a Gerber fan for quite some time and I have owned this knife for approx. 2-3 months. My only complaint is the pocket clip. after only a few weeks the clip came became loose. I tried tightening it but the odd Torx bit size was difficult in finding. After finally finding the proper bit it still managed to come loose and actually has become lost. I do not recommend for this reason. The blade is still fine. But is such an inconvenience be digging through your pocket every time its needed.
I carried this knife through a 6 month US tour as a guitar tech. the ONLY thing I would change is the pocket clip. i would love to have one set up for tip up/ tip down carry. Can't go wrong with a Rick Rinderer design. thanks for the great knife.
I received this knife as a present from my brother. it is the first tanto blade as well as first Gerber i have owned. a year later and I'm still in love. spends every day in my pocket and gets used all the time. i especially love that i can easily open it with one hand. the finger flip is absolutely amazing. blade is a little loose but nothing critical. the steel could be harder but it fits the price. very thin in my pocket. only other thing i carry is a leatherman charge. My next knife will be a Gerber.
I am a long time gerber owner/user I have several gerber knives Ideployed to Iraq With an LMF II I love this knife Toughest Knife I have ever owned. The Torch II is A big let down the blade style is great as is the handel. After a few months of normal use and a lot of time in my back pocket, the blade is very loose and wont hold an edge. The scales are also loose.
Heavy knife if that matters to you. I personally like the sturdy construction/heavy feel. Only problem so far is the pocket clip. Brushed up against a stack of cardboard and it bent the clip out. Removing it was a pain due to the extremely tiny hex screws.
The knife does its job as a knife, mine came with an extremely sharp edge angle at 30 degrees inclusive, VERY sharp out of the box. The bad part is the metal is very poor at edge retention, but unless you plan on chopping a tree down it's great for every day use. The serrations are fragile, after cutting (sawing) about 1/8th inch thick of plastic I got bent tips and chipped arcs. But this does not mean the knife is horrible in any case, it still performs its duty as a knife. The black coating to my surprise is actually more durable than I expected. Keep the pivot well oiled, clean and fairly tight it will last you a long time.
Another thing I should add is that the older Torch II had G-10 on both sides of the handle, but my recent replacement sent by Gerber only has G-10 on one side (the non pocket clip side). I preferred the old design for better grip, but this "newer" doesn't cause as much wear to my pocket.
the lock screw comes loose way too easy ands requires loctite .only has the tip down carry option. and the steel loses an edge quickly. I know that this is a good value for a tactical blade but the swagger is far superior and cheaper. maybe alter the handle design making it mostly g-10 to reduce weight, and make the pocket clip able to be used both ways. thanks gerber
I'll say this - the first one I received, all the screws started coming lose. At first I was instructed to fix it:
Thank you for contacting Gerber Blades. To resolve this issue, please tighten your clip screws using a T6 Torx Wrench. However, prior to tightening, please place a drop of blue or purple loctite on the clip screws. The Loctite (thread locker) will dry much like a rubber adhesive and help prevent the screws from backing out.
After it started happening again, Gerber replaced it and the second one has been rock solid.
First knife I got and 7 years later she's still strong! It's been miles in my pack in places miles from any road! Always sharp. One day just to test it i beat it with a rock and it didn't even budge. By far the best folder you guys at Gerber make. Keep up the good work!
Bought this knife a couple months back, constant working knife. Holds a great edge and feels good in your hands.
