Strong. Thin. Light. The STL is a one ounce powerhouse that fights above its weight class. A cut out in the blade offers easy one-handed opening, and an ultra-thin blade is perfect for detailed jobs. A lanyard hole ensures it will always be on hand and ready.
No thicker than three quarters stacked together and weighing only one ounce, the STL 2.0 (stands for Strong, Thin, and Light) rides comfortably in your pocket. The cut out in the blade provides for easy one-handed opening, and the thin stainless steel handles feature a lanyard hole and a unique frame lock for safety.
I bought this knive on a whim in a supermarket years ago. I recently lost it when traveling and that is when I realized I used to have it on me all the time and that I really miss it now that I don’t. So I ordered a new one as soon as possible. It is a great thin and light knive that just stays sharp. What is great is that it is so light and thin that you can have it in your pocket at all times and it doesn’t look like a psycho-knive when I take it out in public like some other more serious pocketknives. Highly recommend
Best small pocket knife I have ever owned. I Use it daily. It goes where ever I go and comes in handy all the time. Holds an edge great. Everything I need in a pocket knife.
After being given one as a gift three years ago, this knife has never been off my keyring. It shrugs off abuse and holds a great edge. A fantastic little knife.
Knife is good, packaging is horrible and a lie. The package on the knife I purchased says clip folding knife. It has no clip. I would not have purchased it had the packaging been accurate. I have no need for any knife I have to fish from the bottom on my pocket.
Bought this knife as a replacement for my gerber box cutter, and I've been very pleased with this knife. I use to carry very big knifes but in my recent employment as a sales associate for a sporting goods store they wasn't that practical. I was kinda worried about going to a knife this small, but after carrying this knife for about 6 months I've fallen in love with it I haven't had any issues with it. Which has surprised me since I do abuse it. I ship out for the Army in a couple of weeks, and I'm going to miss having this knife with me. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.
This has been my daily pocket knife for about 4 years. It has been through wash/dry cycles, salt water, and all sorts of use and abuse. I thought I lost it recently so I ordered a new spare, I don't want to be without. My kids and friends expect me to have it and borrow it routinely. I can't recommend it enough.
excellent knife i love it, i bought this one and the mini paraframes, love these knives and will buy again
This will be The fifth knife I have bought like this.In my job I have to do a lot of leaning out the window to deliver mail and I do not even know it is there. Also I have to cut many plastic straps. PERFECT KNIFE for my needs.
I carry this on my keychain or in my back pants pocket and never even notice it's there - it lives up to the Thin and Light part of its name. The lock works well enough and I find it easy to open with two hands (doable but not easy with one hand). It shipped sharp enough for everyday use, so no complaints here. My one gripe: the 'spine' of the handle is open and since I carry it on my keychain, it's constantly getting keys and rings stuck in it and bumping up against the edge of the blade. I'm going to close it up myself but it would have been a better product if the blade were better protected with a closed back. The hinge motion isn't very smooth, but otherwise it's a great item and at a great price.
I love this little knife! I use it everyday, and when I'm sitting in equipment you can't even tell it's in your pocket! Sharpe and easy to handle. If you loose it ,easy to replace. I just hope they don't stop making them!
Great gift item. I have probably bought 20 of them. Lost 3 or 4 to TSA because I forgot I had one in my pocket.
It's an alright knife, but the lock sucks, the blade doesn't open smoothly at all, and the cut out makes for difficult opening. That aside, it is a good knife.
I have two of these knives (I bought a second unit after I thought I lost the original). I've also bought three more as gifts.
The design is a triumph of simplicity and durabillity. I carry it with me every day, and I use the knife every day it seems. Because it's so thin, it carrys comfortably in my front pants pocket. It's easy to open, locks securely, and also closes easily - when you want it to close. The blade is very sharp and holds it's edge well.
I've just talked myself into buying a couple more as gifts.....
I have carried one of these knives in my pocket for years. I lost one and went right back to get the same one.
I wanted a very small well made lightweight knife that would be out of sight, out of mind, sitting unnoticed in my pocket until I needed it for some lite duty task. It fits my needs to a tee!
This is the perfect knife for a civilized gentleman. It is a delight to have in your pocket every day and everywhere. It is strong for it's size, wonderfully reliable and comfortable. I discovered it 5 years ago and I use it for everything, from opening mail to cutting that bit of expensive steak at the restaurant. Yes, I still carry other Gerber tools when in the field, but this has become my personal best friend for every day wear and I couldn't ask for anything better. Thank you Gerber!
I've been carrying this knife is my pocket daily for several years. It is thin and light yet strong and sharp. I thought I lost it so I am ordering a couple of spares.
I began looking for a small knife for everyday use a couple weeks ago. Sure, i could get some big, 3" assisted opening or benchmade blade for $100.00, but that would've been a complete overkill. I was looking for a small, simple knife that could perform simple tasks, (e.g cutting tape, thin ropes, wrappers, envelopes, etc.)
I planned on getting the Spyderco Bug, but it was out of stock. I picked this up instead.
It fit the needs i wanted perfectly. It performed everyday tasks flawlessly, & was capable of taking bigger projects (in my case, cutting up cardboard). It is definitely no combat/military blade. It my expectations perfectly & had no problems exceeding them, if just a bit. The only issue with the blade is the Anodized finish, which WILL rub off very fast. Furthermore, some people may dislike the ease of closing, which may take a bit getting used to due to it being a frame lock.
Overall: this is NOT a tactical or military-quality knife. It has a very sharp blade that fit my expectations for a light edc knife perfectly. The anodized finish will rub off, & the frame lock may be undesirable for some people.
This knife is awesome! A must have for any pocket! And with a backing like the name Gerber, when you need to open anything from letters, to hard plastic packaging on a product, or for any reason to have a knife handy, this is it! The perfect pocket companion! This knife is a must! get it!
I bought this knife a few months ago and was disappointed when I dropped the knife from a height of three feet onto a thin rubber mat sitting on a hardwood floor and the handle of the knife broke. The part of the handle that flexes so you can close the the knife snapped. Up to this point I was carrying this as my everyday pocket knife and was very happy.
I have been EDCing this blade with a maglite solitaire LED for a micro edc since I got it last October.
Combining this blade, a AAA flashlight (such as the solitaire; i3s eos; or Ti3), and a mini Bic lighter makes for a perfect micro EDC that is perfectly functional, available at almost any hardware store, and lightweight enough to not mind carrying every day, even if you hate things weighing down your pants/purse.
A mini combo like that would make any pre industrial revolution human jealous :P
4 out of 5 only because the frame locking piece is only connected to the rest of the frame by a small bit of metal and had one break while trying to wash it by spraying it with freezing cold water through a hose on jet spray mode. I was happy to get another one though, which is holding up just great.
this is a great knife. I'm 14 and have had one of these of 2 years it comes pretty sharp and keeps a edge for a while. if you want a every day utility knife this is the one.
I keep mine in my pocket at all times and use it for opening packages, home & auto repair and the occasional foray into the wild. Had it for three months and she's still pretty sharp! Light as a feather, easy to operate & handle. Highly recommended!
I have had this knife for 7 years now it was my first knife I have no problems with it is great!!!!!!
Although it's a nice size for dropping in your pocket as an everyday carry knife, it's a little weighty. Sort of like carrying a half dollar in coins. With a little practice it could be opened with one hand but it’s a little slippery and cumbersome. It slips out of my hand half the time. It really takes two hands to open which is a negative for me. As mentioned, it’s slick. The smooth sides make it very slippery let alone if your hands were a little wet.
When closed the whole blade is protected including the tip. When open it has a secure lock but forget about ease of closing, takes quite a bit of effort to close using your fingertips and nails which tend to get painful after a few times. These type locks (frame locks?) are worthless.
If this was a fraction thicker with better side grips and a normal thumb lock, it would be perfect.
I'm returning this one and getting something else.
i actually desided to give a 4 outof 5 stars because its 440c stainless steal so it get dull pretty easily but its easy to sharp and still is a good knife
I think that this is an amazing knife and that Gerber did an excellent job making this it is really sharp and a good everyday knife and also I love the way it feels and cuts you cant go wrong with a knife like this for $14 I highly recommend it
haha ive had for like two days, and when i threw it into my barn a few time and it didnt stick, it has all these red dings all over but i think it makes it look more awesome. got it at walmart for $13. thanks gerber for all the awesome products
I've had this knife for about a year. I attached a keychain loop to the hole at the end of the body of the knife. It goes on my car keys carabiner, or in my jersey pocket on mountain bike rides. Either way, it has been with me for every waking hour of my life for 365 days now.
The blade's edge is holding up well, but the anodization, or finish, or whatever the soft black coating is... it is not holding up well. My knife looks half black, half tarnished brass rubbed off from my keys. The brass wear color will not come off without removing all finish to the bare metal.
Don't expect to be chopping down trees or gutting deer with this thing, and it will do you well!
This knife is very good as a small pocket knife. I've used it to open letters, eat apples, and cut boxes. Be careful though as the black coating with scratch at the drop of a hat. My keys left a lovely mark the first time the knife was in my pocket. I expected better quality from the coating but you get what you pay for.
This knife fits in the credit card slot of my wallet, cuts right through hard plastid packaging, and holds a decent edge. Best small edc built today.
This little knife is awesome. I carry it every day when I go to work and can't carry my full size Icon. It has served me well for the past 2 years (at least) and I foresee many more years of use in my future. Edge retention is great and due to it's open design it's easy to clean. When it gets covered in orange juice or apple bits I just rinse it under hot water. Love the integral lock feature as well, that's the reason it replaced my other pen-knife in my pocket.
I wanted a small knife to peel apples, which I eat often, and I saw this at Walmart for a good price and I bought it.
It's very thin, light, a clean design and sharp. Its all steel construction makes it tough and durable.
However, this ain't no one handed knife. The action on mine is very tight and requires 2 hands to open and 2 hands to close. Actually closing it takes some effort. Maybe I am missing something but working the frame lock is a pain.
For the past 3 years this served me as an excellent everyday carry.
The slimness of the knife is excellent, you don't even notice it's there in your back pocket.
I was impressed with its durability given the very slim frame and lock, but it held up to everything I put it through.
Unfortunately I left mine at a house party and haven't seen it since. Looking at the 2.5 as a replacement, I miss this knife!
I've this one for 5 of 6 years now and never fail. Great little knife for everyday use. I use at the office to peel an apple (I wash it before, sure !), in electronics to cut wires and in camping to do everything.
Great knife overall
It's crazy thin and light, so there's no reason to leave it behind. Just don't mistake it for a heavy-duty utility knife. It's great for opening envelopes and packages and other simple tasks that don't require a heavier bulkier knife.
I got this at Sports Authority for $27. That might be overpriced, but it still is a great knife. It has an extremely sharp blade that you can almost cut anything with! Very sturdy design too. I recommend it as a good starter knife for anyone who is looking for a decent first pocket knife. Perfect indeed!
this knife was WAY smaller than i first thought . waiting to see if i can exchange for something different.
This knife is so good that I own 2! I've used the oldest one for about 2 years now. It's never let me down.
When I got this knife i thought it would be a peice of crap cauze it was so small, but i learned not to judge a book by its cover. This blade is AWESOME and SMALL =D it cuts LIKE A BOSS!
Well how do I say whats not to like about this knife because it is the best small knife that I have ever gotten. The first time I used it I was cutting a stick in half, it cut it in half but it took a pretty long time. I got this knife at a walmart so I was a little surprised to see a Gerber knife in walmart, but this knife is very light weight and very use full. It has a safety lock that is semi-hard to close but it is the best and smallest knife I've ever had. BUY IT NOW! =0
Great knife & a great companion. Have had mine for 2 years and works perfectly. Fits inside phone case clip for stealth.
I bought this knife quickly, as a last minute buy on my way out for a month long camping/survival trip last year. I can honestly say that being used on a daily basis, for making wood shavings, as a general knife, it's worked fantastic. Even a year later, it's still kept it's edge and works great! I carry it with my every day, and it's by far one of my favourites.
I bought this at the TINKER AFB BX for $9 and it hasn't failed me yet! Just one thing to watch out for if you put it in the same pocket as coins the coins will slip between the edges of the handle and dull the blade. That's my fault, not the knife's.
Best li'l pocket knife I've ever spent $9 on, that's for sure.
(Thanks, Gerber, for whatever discount you give the military)
I recently purchased this knife at sports authority for $15. It is by far my favorite edc knife I have ever had. It is thin, light, and very sharp. I probably use this knife at least 3 times a day for something.
got it before the Gerber logo changed blade is still sharp finish is a lil faded but the thing is probably 6 years old
At first I really liked this little blade as it would ride comfortably in the watch pocket of my Levi's. So comfortable that I forgto it was there and washed it once. The first trip through the washer/dryer either destroyed the tensile of the locking haft or a piece fell out as the knife would no longer lock 100% of the time. The second accidental washer cycle broke the locking haft so now the knife is junk.
I have piles of knives, this is now my favorite one. A clip option would be nice but it's not necessary. have given several out his christmas gifts.
i LOVE gerber i only have this one knife but i am getting a paraframe mini serrated for christmas.but i love this knife i bought it on vacation at walmart for a great price. Now let me say this is one of the best edc's ive had it came really sharp and holds an edge and the nitrate coating is great overall five stars!!!Good job gerber
Just purchased the Gerber STL 2.0 from Bass Pro Shops (at a very good price). For reasons that surpass my self understanding, I had to open the package while walking from the store to my car.
Once the STL was out of the package, I decided to use the package as test material for this lightweight pocket knife. I placed the blade inside the retail hanging loop, pulled the packaging backwards as I pushed the blade forward. It cut through packaging with ease!
Next test - use the tip of the blade to make small, precise incisions. I spotted the white, rectangular shoplifting tag on the back of the packaging. With some curiosity, I decided to slice into this mysterious tag to see exactly what was inside. At the top edge of the white rectangle, I placed my blade with a very light pressure and with my best effort, pulled the tip of the blade along the corner of the rectangle. The blade made a clean cut through the plastic. Repeating this same action, I perform the same steps on the bottom rectangle - again, clean cut through the plastic. Two short incisions on each end of the rectangle allowed me to completely remove the plastic. (Inside were two metal strips which were easily removed by placing the tip of the blade under each and gently lifting the strip.
With complete success, I decided to close the blade. This was a bit tough because there is no cutout in the handle to allow an adult male finger to push the locking mechanism away from the blade. I had to use the tip of my nail to move the locking mechanism to the side while using my other hand to slowly close the blade. This was quite risky because the finger used to push the locking mechanism was in the path of the closing blade. I might add the locking mechanism is quite stiff for a small knife. (A plus for ensuring the blade doesn't accidentally close while use the knife but a minus when trying to close the blade.)
Overall, I think the knife is definitely a very lightweight, sharp and highly usable knife.
This knife is no less than a work of art! I sharpen knives professionally and let me tell you this baby can hold an edge! Now I've owned more than my fair share of knives but this has to be one of my favorites, considering it's so fricking tough, so well
