With a super-lightweight frame lock design, this knife delivers surprising strength and functionality. The streamlined handle adds no bulk to the slim profile, making it the perfect mate for your pocket. Opening and closing are a cinch with dual thumbstuds.
We built these knives for the non-conformist in you. The Ripstop I & Ripstop II are super-lightweight frame lock concepts that deliver bold strength and high functionality. The weight of the all stainless steel construction knife is made lighter by the intriguing handle and blade design. There's no bulk in the thin, streamlined handle. Dual thumb studs make opening the blade a snap. Closing it is a simple one-handed step.
I've carried this knife for a while and it's works pretty good. I'm a Gerber fan and have many of their knives. This weekend I discovered when using this to skin a hog that with the right or "wrong" grip pressure and twisting motion I unlock the blade and I folded it up on my finger twice. Think I'll choose a different knife for skinning.
Bought this knife at Tractor Supply for $9.99. I like it a lot. Just the right size for you pocket and it's versital.
Just bought a new Gerber Ripstop 1, stock #4661116A. Will not lock up, frame piece appears a bit too long to engage the blade. At this point it is a safety hazard and unusable. Not my typical experience with Gerber knives, of which I own several. Disappointing. Not testing it further, as I'd like to keep my fingers. Packing notes made in China.
It's a good knife, but doesn't hold an edge for long. I've used it for cutting string on round bales and after a few bales, it was dull.
This is my second of this model. Just the right size when you don't want to carry allot. Had to replace it after 5 years. I gauge other knives to Gerber standards.
I got this knife for christmas and really enjoy using in and carrying it. The only problem is that the grip is a little uncomfortable.
I bought this knife from target, only problem with this knife is target sells it for $25, I wish I had order it from this site $18. I use this knife every day while I'm out hiking, camping, fishing or just hanging around the house. Super easy to open and close, and looks really cool.
Excellent daily use folder. I have carried mine for several years now, day in, day out. Not the best knife ever, but good, solid, and reliable.
GOT THIS AS A CHRISTMAS GIFT 2014 HAVE USED IT A FEW TIMES BUT REALLY HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO SHARPEN IT YET . BEING THE HALF PLAIN EDGE IN FRONT AND SERRATED TOWARDS BACK OF BLADE LOOKS LIKE IT WOULD BE REALLY HANDY FOR OPENING CARDBOARD BOXES . IT IS VERY LIGHT WEIGHT AND EASY TO CARRY . PLAN ON USING IT AS A WORK KNIFE AND USE WHILE CAMPING. BUT I WOULD SUGGEST A BIGGER LOCK BLADE FOR CUTTING BIGGER ITEM'S LIKE ROPE OR REALLY TOUGH PLASTIC BAGS .
I don't know what these other people r using there knife for to call it a piece of junk. Maybe hammering or prying. I use my to cut things and its lasted 2 years of hard abuse. The only thing wrong with it is the clip broke off when I fell in an ice fishing hole up to my crotch. I think it saved my life. Ok maybe not but its a good knife. Thanks gerber! P.S. send me a new clip.
A NEIGHBOR GOT ME THIS KNIFE FOR CHRISTMAS AND I REALLY LIKE IT. I LIKE THE FACT IT IS LIGHT WEIGHT AND HAS THE POCKET CLIP AND LIKE THE SERREATED EDGE AS WELL I WILL USE THIS KNIFE CAMPING ON WEEKENDS LOOKS LIKE IT IS A GOOD SOLID WELL BUILT KNIFE
Will not keep an edge! Not recommended for this model. Gerber makes some good knives this isn't one of them.
I got this knife for my birthday a while ago, but I didn't really understand the quality of it at the time. Now, five years later, this knife has been through just about everything over hundreds of boy scout and camp outs including, but limited to: sharpening roasting sticks, with flint to start fires, cutting through paracord countless times, cutting into fingers a couple times (oops), and lots of every day things like opening boxes and such.
Point is, this is the best knife I've ever owned, and am looking at getting another two or three as gifts for friends now
First off, the blade itself was strong and sharp. However, the mechanism to lock the blade in place snapped off after only a few uses.
I've always thought Gerber carried the best knives, and that's why I don't buy any other brand. I owned this knife for two years until it snapped in half last night. It was reliable in a pinch, but wouldn't stay sharp for long.
Great blade and opening action. Keeps it's edge well. I wish there was one just like it that was maybe 2 inches longer. 4 1/2 to 5 1/2
Have had an aluminum fine edge Gerber for years. Got this one in my stocking for Christmas this year! I love it...easy to open and close if you know how Sharp and keeps its edge and easy to sharpen! Great product!
i bought this knife about three years ago. many of my previous knives have fallen apart so i was looking for something that would last. this fit the bill. the reason i am looking for a new knife now isn't because it broke, it's because i lost it...
I was so impressed with this knife that I now have 6. I keep one on each of my life jackets. I wish they had included a lanyard clip at the last frame screw.
I've had this knife for almost 2 years. Great compact knife. My biggest complaint is closing the thing. Near impossible to close it with one hand.
The knife blade itself is awesome. I have no complaints. The the screw that holds the blade to the handle has a nasty habit of coming loose with even minor impacts. This wouldn't be a problem, i'm very hard on my knives, but I cant tighten the screw again because the pocket clip is in the way. I would remove the clip, but the screws holding it in are impossible to find a bit for. If they made the clip easier to remove i would rate this knife 5 stars.
