This lightweight everyday carry knife has an open frame that is the ultimate in minimalist design. Easy to clean, carry, and open, the Paraframe is an effortless addition to your pocket or belt clip. Available in multiple blade variations, this knife handles it all.
Like all eight knives in the Paraframe series, the Paraframe I is based on the same minimal frame-lock design. It’s a beautifully simple, open frame knife with a fine edge locking blade that is lightweight, easy to clean and opens effortlessly. Built with a smooth stainless steel handle and a clip for secure travel, the Paraframe I is everything that an everyday carry folder should be.
I have had this knife for a while. it is awesome. feels nice in the hand, brand new it opened smoothly and easy and still does, it has a good edge that lasts, belt clip is nice and not to far out. A great first knife. the only thing I don't like is how far out the thumb pegs stick out on the sides, because of my work wearing a tool belt I have to keep it clipped to my pocket so every time I reach into my pocket for something it tears skin off.
This is a nice knife to carry. Small and easy to use. I thought I lost the knife and purchased another. Of course I found the first one and decided to keep both. The biggest drawback that both knives take two hands to open and since my fingernails are grounded down, it is very hard to close the knives. As for sharpness, it came sharp and is easy to sharen when needed.
Found this (or something extremely similar) at the bottom of a river a few years back. Was folded and sitting neatly on the rocks with very little rust at the hinge so I assume it fell out of a pocket. Its served me well at summer camps and I keep it in my purse if I'm going somewhere sketchy and/or playing Pokémon Go. Haven't needed to replace it as I don't really use it but I'd willingly spend the 30 bucks as its kinda cool looking and just small enough to probably not get me arrested. Thanks careless knife owner who enjoys swimming for the free knife and the mild feeling of safety
This was one of my first knives. I would get it at dicks sporting good store for around 15usd. Used it for work all the time. I lost a few and did not care because for 15 bucks it is not a big deal. I was able to hold on to one for 2 years and the blade would dull. I would sharpen it up and start using it again. Then it would dull in a week. Then every day. At which point it came to me that this type of knife was meant to be replaced every so often. That was when I started using more expensive knives. From other companies.
I bought this knife for myself from Wal-Mart nice knife great price and easy on the wallet very lightweight for everyday carry extremely sharp cuts through boxes like butter sometimes I forget I'm carrying it overall its a great knife keep up the great work
When I was a young man, Canadian Forces personnel were issued the rather "dodgy" C5 scout folders. Fortunately, we were allowed to privately purchase Victorinox "Spartan" model pocket knives. Also, base CANEX stores stocked the Gerber "Paraframe I". And this rugged basic folder is up to any task one could realistically ask of a medium sized pocket knife. Does it need some "fettling" out of the box? Well, yes, you'll have to put a decent 20 degree edge on the blade. And you'll have to "break in" the blade close detente with lots of fine machine oil and a zillion practice opening and closings. But, for around $15, you get a reliable "beater" EDC knife...which will faithfully serve you for years to come!
I bought this knife at walmart with scepticism. It was cheap and I needed a knife. Now over 10 years later this knife has really surprised me, I have this pocket knife every day every where. It has withstood a pounding in the riggors of my use in construction and landscping. I will be buying another one as a back up in cade this one is lost or stolen as I carry this knife so much and constantly rely on it. One very small downfall is if you have coins or small items in your pocket with this knife they can get hung up in the openings of the handle. But, in over 10 years of use this has not created any issues in performance.
Just bought this as a gift for myself from Wal-Mart for use as an everyday carry. I found the action to be too tight to be opened one handed. Once opened the blade lock was very difficult to disengage. The overall quality is good and the blade is razor sharp. Being a prepackaged knife I was not able to handle it before purchasing. I would not have bought it with such a tight action. I will keep this as a backup pack knife and look at other Gerbers at a shop where I can handle the knives first.
I bought mine as I could not pass up on the value it was priced at. Never been a fan of the skeleton handle but was able to paracord wrap that area so that it made the hold a lot more comfortable. Easy to carry knife and with paracord feels really good in my hand.
honestly i bought this to b a cool cheap knife to keep but now i edc this everyday and ive had it for about 5 months. no blade play, cheap, efficient, a all around perfect starter knife.
I have had this Gerber Paraframe I for about two and a half years. Absolutely love it, easy to use ,holds an edge very well. Now the bad part. ,the handle /blade lock is cracked where it was machined to allow it to flex. I think you should rethink this idea . With this crack it will not lock securely or at all ,very dangerous. Please get back to me if you can correct this problem.
Excellent, lightweight design. Perfect for everyday general purpose duties. Couldn't ask for a better pocket carry.
I've had this knife for a few months now, and love it. It's a great all-around tool. If fits nicely into my pocket and I have been pleased with the strength of the clip. I've used it for everything from cleaning fish to cutting rope.
Other than not standing up to my idiocy I love the feel and how smoothly the open and close. that said if I'm honest I have destroyed two of these knives while totally misusing them. I snapped the blade of one while using it as a pry bar the other I wrecked when I tried to electro-etch my name into it. Personally buy these off amazon cheaply and use them for dubious purposes to protect a much more expensive multi tool.
Just bought this for my son for his outdoors camps this summer. He's already gotten busy crving spears and cutting down blacberry bramble to make twine.
I've had this knife for three years now, It's always in my back pocket. My girlfriend keeps begging me to get her the exact one. It's perfect for everyday use and an extremely reliable piece.
I was so impressed by the EVO JR. I felt comfortable buying a Paraframe II as a birthday present for my older brother. After hearing his scathing review, iwas so shocked I purchased one for myself intending to give him the better of the two. Sadly neither knife met my idea of a GOOD gift. Neither could be opened one-handed. Both were difficult to open two handed.
Well, there is my opinion,
Fantastic knife. Solid feel, sturdy and sharp. Very classy finish.Nice tolerances at the pivot. Locking frame design simple and works great. I would recommend this knife for an EDC. I looked at a dozen other knifes before I settled on the Paraframe and I am not disappointed. You will not find a better product in this price range. Great job Gerber!
I have many knifes, of all shapes and sizes, but this in my eyes is the perfect knife for most jobs. It has a very strong locking mechanism and holds its edge well. i take it everywhere, 5 day hikes, fishing trips, mowing the lawn, you name it. Even though it is a tin metal handle/frame it is very comfortable to hold. the knife is the perfect size for every job i can think of short of cutting through branches. It fits into your pocket and the belt clip holds it (worry free) in place. I would recommend this knife to anyone who doesn't have it.
Inner thumb stud scratches the back of your hand when you reach into your pocket. The outer one traps the cloth of your pocket against the pocket clip. Didn't lock-up securely. A grinder and file fixed both problems. Poor design and quality control.
it so good knife, for everyday use, for good price good blade, BUT in my pocket it started being rust. not the blade, but the handle. and it is very hard to sharpen to very sharp like in the package, when i bought, it is easy to use with one hand
I recently purchased this knife online so I did not know what to expect. I was very satisfied when it arrived. The knife was razor sharp out of the box. Beautiful finish and the build quality is top notch. Lightweight but has a solid feel to it.
I don't think there is a knife out there in this price point that can compare to the Paraframe. I have the 7" (open) size which is good for EDC. Overall very pleased with my purchase
It is a great knife truly pocket,high-quality, the locking is perfect and it opens perfectly with the flick of a wrist, but won't come out in your pocket
I have had over 3 of these knives so far and all of them are incredible. The Frame Locking is a great design. I have no reserve when putting a little force behind the blade. The Blade keeps a good edge for an everyday carry.
Keep up the good work Gerber. I will be back for more.
This is a nice knife when you first buy it. From ready reviews from others I must have got a misfit... Two of them to be exact. The first one I had lasted two weeks before the clip busted and lost the knife some where over 16000 acres on horse back. The second one last a whole three days longer. I enjoy the fine blade on this knife but the pocket clip sucks. I have had cheap dollar store knifes with a stronger clip. Wish I could keep it around long enough to put it to good use.
I loved this knife until I used it for light battoning and the frame lock sheared off right below the blade and bloke causing the blade to unlock.
I found a Paraframe 1 in the shoulder of a busy highway while riding my bicycle. I picked it up, put a new edge on it, cleaned and lubricated it. that was 5 years ago and it has been my EDC ever since. Thank you for a great product.
I purchased it at an outdoor store for $20 dollars before taking it camping in the white mountains. Blade was sharp and it did light tasks with ease, but the blade began to tarnish quickly when exposed to moisture. This is fine, however one of the studs on the locking mechanism fell off when the knife was dropped from about five or six feet. The blade now wobbles. I suppose this is to be expected from a twenty dollar knife.
amazing knife love the feel weight design everything I use it to make fishing spears traps the works has slight blade play dont quite know how to fix that but the things pretty bullet proof might just get all I can out of it then get a new one
Absolutely spectacular! This knife is amazing quality. And the flick works perfectly and also love how you didn't make it half seraded. And the design for the handle is brilliant. And on top of that the knife's blade is sharp but the locking mechanism works perfectly. Great knife and a very handy one as well!
Great knife. Easy to open easy to use. It's my EDC and I use it all the time. Just wish they made a left hand version but its still fast and easy to use. Still tight and solid after 6 months continuous use. Love it.
I have owned my plain blade for two years and carry it every day. I have no complaints at all. I live in the woods and I fish, hunt, and camp. A year ago, while visiting, my 30 yr old son just had to show and tell me about his new knife he loved not knowing I had the exact same one. What a great father-son moment1
I love this knife!!! Easy to open with one hand, light, easy to sharpen, slim design, and is my first pick of ALL my knives for daily use!
I bought this knife a couple months ago and quickly found out it opens too easily, often with just a slight flick of the wrist. Easy fix if you have the right tools.
Got this knife for $20 at dick's help up very well.. trust me it has gone through some tough work on the farm.. would recommend it to anybody looking for a good reliable knife
This is my EDC. I am very pleased with it and it is very dependable. I stake my life on it. It opens very easy. It took awhile to get used to open it. The fault lies with my old arthritic 74 year old hands.
I bought this knife the day before Christmas. Then on Christmas I used it to cut through thin plastic and it chipped. This knife seems reliable and I would buy it again. I am contacting the company and hoping they will replace it. If not I will buy a new one. :\
I like the knife for many attributes, but the handle the design. The space on the hollow handle is enough so that you could cut yourself. I am surprised no one else has mentioned that as an issue. For that reason I wouldn't make it my survival knife...
Love this knife, dad bought it for me for $5 at a pawn shop, what a steal. But this knife really is amazing, I love how lightweight it is, and it really keeps its edge. But what I think is the most impressive thing about it is how tough it is. I was mowing my yard once and dropped it in the grass, ran over it twice with the lawn mower and not a SINGLE scratch on it ( I think it dented the mower blade). This knife is one great buy, never leave home with out it.
I believe this is the best all purpose knife made, at any price. Holds a razor edge the blade has as of yet to become wobbly and believe me it gets some rugged use. One fine knife
Awesome knife! I like the fact its easy to clean. Im in the Army & Do construction too. I have cut out chaulking in showers, cut out sinks. I love it so much, that when I forgot it at home during Range fire, I sent a person to get me another one. Thank goodiness the PX carried them! Once home I switched back to old faithful!
Only thing better would be light weight Titanium!
I will run mine thru the dishwasher & then lube it for almost no assist opening!
I’ve had this knife for about 4 years now, and have used it on many of times hiking, back packing and of course the hardest of them all…car camping. I have sharpened this knife about 5-6 times, but in my opinion, and my son’s, it has a razors edge. I love the size, weight and feel of this knife.
It is light, compact, and a rugged knife. I've only had it a year but man has it preformed.
P.s. KNIFEMAN just put loob on the joint to make the opening e-z
its hard to open, the lock is hard, its really stiff, and its not that sharp, buy the air ranger instead of this
I bought this knife for daughter who is a Venture Scout to use and it has held up to 3 years of hard use. The only reason it was replaced this year was she lost it. She now has another one and is very happy with it
I have the older version (before they changed the logo), and it was extremely dull when I got it. Never has it been decent for use other than as a screwdriver... I've tried sharpening it and it just doesn't hold an edge. Not the Gerber I remember...
Great-until the lock wears out. Nearly sliced open my fingers with it. Other than than that, you cant get a more durable knife. I had a Presto for a few months, And had the inside begin to rust on me( yes-, I submerged it a few times.)
This is the only gerber ever to give me trouble. The liner lock wore out and no longer truely locks. I can no longer trust it.
A no-frills knife for anyone. Perfect size and weight for any pocket and a great feeling knife in the hand. I own quite a few pocket knives and this is one that I carry on a daily basis. My de facto all purpose cutting tool.
