An evolution of the best-in-class Applegate-Fairbairn folder, this knife features a spring-loaded auto release that deploys at the touch of a button. With premium S30V fine edge steel and a perfectly balanced design, this tactical auto is a sure favorite.
Known as the international best-in-class folding tactical knives, the Covert family takes another leap forward this year with the addition of the Covert Auto. Our popular Applegate-Fairbairn S30V steel blade folder gets quicker with a new spring-loaded auto release that rapidly deploys the S30V tactical blade with the push of a button. The addition of this knife is a perfect way to complete a collection, while also owning a perfectly balanced auto-opening knife.
I have several of the Gerber autos. The first one I bought was the mini covert. I liked it so much I decided I wanted the bigger one. It worked OK at the store where I bought it. but it seemed like the action became sluggish and unreliable pretty quick. I have heard other complain about similar issues with some of these knives. At some point, I had placed a drop or two of rem oil in the action just because that seemed reasonable to do. That either caused the problem or fixed it. Not sure which. After I took a Q0-tip to it and played with it for a while, it worked perfectly. I was afraid i had gotten a lemon but it's not. The action is now VERY fast and 100% reliable. The blade is sharp enough to shave with. the safety is solid. The machining is perfect. The only recommendation I have for Gerber is to make one of these things in a pure left handed model.
