I heard a lot of good feedback about this knife so I seceded to get this for my military deployment. The knife was slow to open and sometimes didnt even completely open. Not sure if I got one with a weak spring but the open function failed after 3 months into the deployment. Other than the spring the knife feels solid and looks great but it has unfortunately become more of a gravity knife until I am able to get a stronger replacement spring. It also came with a slight fold in a portion of the edge but that was quickly corrected with a my field sharpener. A recommendation to Gerber for future models: brass, nylon, heck any bushings would be a nice addition.
I wanted to like this knife really bad, love the feel, the shape, the color, everything! Finally said I'd treat myself and layout all this money for this big and beefy knife. Boy was I let down when I first opened it! This thing doesn't deploy all the way open! The spring feels very weak and I'm thinking it isn't going to get any better with time! Did I get a dud? It feels like it when opening it. There is no, "jump, or pop" when it opens, it just lazily slides out to about 3/4 the way and stops. I need this fixed or returned Gerber, what a let down.
I was issued one while in the Navy in 2006. It's held up really well. Been kinda tough on it. The springs are finally starting to give out after a decade. Overall, a great knife.
It's a beautiful edition, not sure it's limited though and a collector case/tin would have been nice to see. Perhaps one day that hefty price tag will be worth that price, otherwise it's a pretty expensive knife.
I bought this knife January of 2017. The first time I carried it, i wasn't thinking, and while using it, the blade slipped and it cut me down to the bone. I needed 9 stitches to fix it. That being said, despite hitting the bone, the knife retained its edge; there was no damage to it. I left the blood on it for about a month, because I didn't feel like carrying it after that. I dug it back out and cleaned off the blood. There was no rust or finish blemishes on the blade. I fully support this knife 100%. It's my go-to knife for anything military-related. On top of that, the Cerakote finish wears beautifully. I recommend this knife to people all the time.
I recently purchased this knife to add to my 20+ Gerber knife and 2 multi-tool collection. One of my Gerber's that started my love for the brand is a, 1st generation gator almost 27 years old and still going strong. It's been with me overseas, used a lot and still has a beefy blade and functions perfect.
Packaging was nice and upon opening what a damn nice looking knife. The knife has a nice weight, thick blade, very sharp shave your hair off blade and auto deployment is nice. The knife gets faster/smoother auto deployment with a few drops of a good silicone or Teflon oil and a little break in. I would trust my life to this knife everyday I put on my uniform.
The knife is easy to index, nice grip and a secure feel.
The only thing I wish Gerber would do is at least include a velcro closure belt case holder with all their knives. It would give you options on how you may want to carry it. I believe it would also be capital benificial to Gerber to add the case for RMA returns on belt clips and or other issues. Knives tend to stay cleaner, more secure against loss, get caught on less things causing malfunctioning and it keep them looking fantastic for years to come.
I have had my 06 for a little over a year now. It is a great well made knife that holds a edge. The knife has a real well balanced design that makes it comfortable to use. I really like this knife for work and hunting.
Had an 06 for a few years on active duty, I loved it. Great knife holds an edge and can do work like pry a box open. Il be ordering another one because my first one got stolen out of its pouch on my vest.
Just bought this knife and it came in today, gotta say that I'm very impressed! The knife itself is a quality tool, and possibly the best buy that I have from Gerber. Everything from the locking mechanism to the press of the button, everything seems to be quality made. It has a slim form factor so it is easy to conceal carry. Even the small details down to the laser etching is kept clean and orderly. Also love the look of the 10th Aniversary edition. Would highly recommend to anyone that can get this knife.
Just got my knife in the mail and first time time I push the button and it was having trouble opening all the way. Knife has all the looks and blade is sharp as well but I think it might need a stronger spring.
This is my third 06 auto. I love all of them. This third one stays in my bunker gear all the time along with the stong arm fixed blade also from gerber. I trust my life to this knife and it has helped in many situations already. It is a bit different to sharpen from the other knives I have had. This is mostly due to the harder S30V steel that its made out of. But it does have that edge retention that everyone loves. I have put it through the ringer and it has never failed me. Best knife to own period.
The minute you pick up this knife you can feel the quality in the build. Love everything about this knife. Not built to win a lightweight EDC completion but I'm totally okay with that. Just an overall Awesome blade, would highly recommend.
Best damn knife there is. My father carried a drop point during his deployments. I carry the Tanto on mine. A knife that has saved my life on more than one occasion stateside and in country. This knife will take a beating and keep on going +5 years now. Still carry it everywhere
A terrific knife. You can feel its quality right through your fingertips: it has heft, a great grip, and it opens with authority. The best knife I have ever owned. Thanks, Gerber!
The only knife I'll ever carry! Love my 06, think i got in in 08. Just received the anniversary edition and have got to say, it is one handsome blade.
This is simply the best knife I have every owned. the anniversary edition is my third on, first two were issued, and I can't believe have awesome the blade is. Well done gerber
EXTREMELY RELIABLE, DURABLE, AND COMFORTABLE! in your hand for your everyday used. I bought 3 of them!
This is a heavy duty beast. Outstanding construction with top quality materials. Love the finish on the blade and scales. Rock-solid lock-up, and push-button for deployment and release works flawlessly. Glad this came out with a drop-point, fine-edge blade. Even happier I was able to get my hands on one!
Just receive this awesome 06 Auto Aniversary Knife. One of the best knives I've had. Sharp and fit my hand, OD green handle is just like my uniform. Love it! Highly recommend!!!
Just received the 10th anniversary '06 Auto and I love it! It is stout, sharp and has become my EDC. Would buy another if I could afford it!
This blade has been in every deployment I've had to Falluja, Ramadii, and Sangin. Nothing is tougher than this blade, I still carry it with me today for regular EDC. It certainly set the standard for what a blade needs to be.
I like the way my 06 looks after all the years, but I am sure I can get this looking that good in a few years.
As an aircraft Mechanic on the F-15E Eagle, this knife has been used to cut off seals to cutting kevlar. This knife is as tough as nails. I will definitely be purchasing the Anniversary Edition
I've had my 06 Auto ever since Afghanistan in early 2010. Still one of my favorite EDCs. The serrated portion of the blade is definitely good when it's needed, but the smooth blade on the 10th Anniversary flavor just looks clean and sharp (no pun intended). Looking forward to this one coming out. As always, Gerber, nicely done!
Ive carried an 06 auto almost every day for 5 years. I had to have the spring replaced one time in that span. Absolutely amazing knife and will 100% be buying the anniversary model.
Had these issued at various points, mine were all combo edge, always wished for plain though.. I was also issued a strider SMF... 06 lasted 2 deployments before I retired it.. The $550 strider lasted about 5 months.
Best duty knife i've ever had its been through some ruff usage and keeps on functioning. Its held up better than another name brand auto i that i was issued . Other than normal cleaning it functions really good .
Carried a Gerber through my service in the USMC. Carry a Gerber every day on duty as a LEO! Will be getting one of the new 06 Auto 10th Anniversary editions to add to the collection!
Amazing knife issued to me and my platoon in Ramadi. I used the hell out of it the whole deployment. best knife ever.
Best knife you can carry, been through hell and back. I have 4 of these but will need a special edition for sure!
Several deployments and years of use with both the 06 auto tanto and drop point have proved them to be solid knives.
I am excited to add this new addition when it becomes available.
Just saw the video of this...I need this now! The flag on the blade is an epic touch. Way to go Gerber!
I've had the black one for years. It's never failed me. The only thing I've noticed is the spring is starting to get weak. Love this knife!
I have carried a Gerber 06 Auto for the last seven years nearly every day. The knife has gone through a lot with me and managed to survive it all. Still love the knife. Something about it's design and robust reliability has kept me using all of these years. I am usually not a collector, but I don't think I can pass this anniversary one up.
