The Answer F.A.S.T. assisted opening folding knife, developed in order to provide lightning-fast access to a blade when most needed, is a Gerber tactical innovator. The dual thumb studs operating in conjunction with the smart safety-slide lock offer an intuitive ease of utility. The Answer F.A.S.T does as the name suggests: once in the right hands, problem-solving is a snap.
ASSISTED OPEN FOR LIGHTNING QUICK USE
Using one hand, intuitively flip the Answer F.A.S.T. tanto-style folder open while actively engaged in cracking into a box, tearing through a cord, or snapping ties or netting. With its 3.25-inch partially serrated hardy stainless steel tanto blade coated in black oxide for low visual signature, this assisted-open knife can stand up to tough application. Its super-solid anodized aluminum handle will tolerate muscular utility while keeping weight at a minimum, and the textured inlay on the handle allows for confident use by its operator. Jimping on the upper handle beneath the thumb and curvature of thoughtfully positioned lower finger grooves are built for easy ergonomic functioning and grip with this sturdy knife when downrange.
LOCK DOWN INSURANCE FOR SAFETY
Engage the sturdy, light 4.9 ounce folder’s safety slide locking mechanism with the thumb once the blade is deployed; the blade can then be closed one-handed after the slide lock is compressed upward merely by flipping it down against a hard surface. Tip-down carry makes it easy to bring the Answer F.A.S.T. out of a pocket, engage the safety-slide lock, and open the knife wherever and whenever the need for a beefy blade might arise. A stainless pocket clip is attached, and a lanyard hole in the pommel provides for the option of tie-down for additional security.
Only is I’ve ever had is with the clip and the screw coming out. Gerber promptly sent out the replacement clip after contacting them. Great customer service. I’m not sure why exactly the other reviewers rated this so low? Gerber has a limited lifetime warranty and will fix or replace when you contact them. They stand behind their products you simply contact the warranty department and they take care of the problem. Very pleased with this knife and I would buy it again.
Bought knife on a Thursday, on Tuesday the deployment mechanism broke. Blade is now loose and unsafe in the pocket and for real use. Store wont take it back since i didn't save the box and Gerber Representative told me nothing can be done other than mail it in and get it back in a few weeks. Worst part: when i asked for help (i got this knife for the field) he told me nothing could be done. When i said Gerber was going to lose my business forever from this, he said "that's too bad". Don't buy this knife, and don't buy from Gerber.
i've had this knife for less than 3 weeks and the thumb stud broke off. with the thumb stud now gone the blade is extremely loose and unsafe to use. now i have a useless paper weight. My other Gerber knives have never had this issue.
Bought this thing 3 years ago and it's great only problem i found with it is that a tiny piece of the tip snapped from the blade being so thin other than that its good for slicing and what not
I've had this knife for 2 years now, haven't had a single problem, and I stand behind it. Lock up is great when deployed; however does move a little when closed and folded. Pocket clip holds firm and securely. Safety is in a great place, and knife has an ergonomic feel in the hand (rubber inserts are great for grip even when wet). Blade can be tricky to sharpen for first timers in part because of the serrations. I would recommend to a friend.
Overall: great knife, great quality, great brand.
great knife, but the lock dosnt lock back all the way when the blade is deployed, Other than that, it is a great knife.
I like the aluminum handles and the feel of the knife. I don't like that this size only comes with a tanto blade. The clip point blade in this size has been discontinued and is now only offered in the small size. If you like tanto type blades the knife is okay.
The action is nice but the blade material is not it rust to easily and sadley thats not covered under the warranty so i still got a rusted blade on mine
i have had the knife for two years and i sheared two screws which allowed the the handles on each side to swing independently and i sent it in to gerber and they sent me a brand new knife and i have had n o more problems
The screws on the belt clip are weak and constantly need to be tightened... until you lose it. It is difficult to use the safety and flip open the blade if you are left-handed.
I am EXTREMELY disappointed with this knife. After having it for only about a week it basically fell apart on me. The thumb studs literally fell off, as did the belt clip, and shortly thereafter the liner itself started coming apart. The LINER! You know, the part that holds the knife together. I have a LMF and I'm pretty happy with it, but it's VERY unlikely I'll ever buy another Gerber folder again. I didn't even get to use the knife (all I did was practice opening & closing the kife) and it fell apart? I'd hate to see what would happen if I were actually in a situation where I needed to depend on it.
It's an o.k. blade.
Rather disappointed on it's construction though. The blade dulls fast, and the serrated edge doesn't cut line all to well.
Knife was given to me as a gift.
But frankly, I'd just stick to my SOG Flash II.
