Field tested with American troops, this 10 inch survival knife was engineered in partnership with our country's bravest. This MOLLE compatible knife is rugged and versatile, with a partially serrated blade that can also serve as pommel or a spear. The sheath includes a built-in blade sharpener.
Every Gerber product has a story to tell. The story of the LMF II is one of resilience and resourcefulness, of being on the wrong side of sticky situation and living to tell the tale. The purpose driven design of this knife stems from the experience of former military man Jeff Freeman, combining thoughtful design features and life-saving application.
Originally designed to free an aircrew from a downed aircraft, the LMF II is tough enough to cut through the fuselage of an aircraft and smart enough to ensure you are safe while doing so. The knife has a purposeful break between the tang and the butt cap, providing insulated protection against stray wires and absorbing any shock from hammering.
This 10” survival knife was built to adapt to any scenario thrown at it – ensuring comfort, versatility, and safety when you need it most.
I just received my LMF II two days ago. When I opened the original packaging, the handle was damaged. It also looks like it's been used. I have reservations about taking this on my deployment. I contacted customer service to see if I could exchange it before my departure, but they didn’t respond.
Frankly, I’m disappointed. I excepted more from Gerber because I've been carrying an auto drop point as my EDC ever since it was issued to me four years ago. At this point, with poor customer service, I'm thinking about returning both knives I recently purchased for a refund and look for an alternative knife for my deployment and a replacement for my EDC.
I got mine back in 2007 when I was in the army it went through Iraq with me and I continue to use it often. It's opened MREs, cut food, bashed ammo cans, chopped through ice on frozen lakes, made fire wood, pryed open all sorts of things, hammered nails, field dressed animals, and just yesterday I used it to dispatch a snake. 12 years of heavy use and I've sharpened it maybe a dozen times. I own a few Gerber knives and this is always the go to. The belts that come with it have fallen apart but the sheath still works like new. This is a really good knife.
Does it have a full tang or is it partial? I've been looking at gerber for a while now and i definetly want one of their knives but i'm torn between the strongarm or this one.
I bought this knife in Quantico, Va on base while I was a young Marine in 2006. It soon went with me to Beirut, Congo, Iraq and Afghanistan. This knife was on my vest at all times. It has served me well. Through hell and back.
It a very study knife that will take what you thought at it. While in Marjah in 2010, this knife was used to help wounded Marines. I have trusted my life to this knife and it has never failed me once.
13 years later, its still with me, hunting, fishing and all sorts of things.
I have found this particular knife to be perfectly suited for Jumpmaster duties and Airborne Operations in the Army. Specifically when performing the duties of a Safety, because you are required to wear a leg knife. The LMF II Infantry system is perfect because of its design and configuration. The webbing has rubber stitching in it that grabs onto your uniform and boots which keeps it stable on your leg. It seems fitting because the knife was designed to get Aircrews out of downed aircraft.
I recently got this knife I think I got a different version it came with a strap cutter. I love it so far it eats tree branches and the sheath is a tight fit which is great.
Had to take the time to send a good review in for this knife. Took it for the first time into Marjah, Afghanistan in 2011(Look it up). From everything to opening MRE's to breaching small doors, this knife held up great! The sheath was great for different attachment locations as I started it on the drop leg, to a belt and finally to upside down on my flak. Youre money will be well spent! Mine is still on my flak to this day.
If I was in the military and was supplied this knife as a survival tool, I would email a family member to send me an Ontario Blackbird ASAP. The 420 HC steel is barely adequate for an EDC pocket knife and is a very common steel in lower priced casual-use knives from other makers. It really is a lower grade steel that can only be hardened to RC55. It is a tough steel but isn't very hard and has low wear resistance. And with no full tang and a molded plastic handle, you might as well buy a Mora Companion made with better Swedish steel for $20.
What a great product. I just received my LMF II on 11/26/15, and haven't had the chance to put it to use yet. I purchased this to carry in/on my go bag. The knife comes sharp enough to shave the hair on the back of my hand, so be careful. It's well balanced and has a great feel in my large hands. I purchased this from one of the authorized on-line retailers and paid $68.
Great job Gerber on another fantastic product.
amazing knife never let me down wish I had it again used it for 24 months of service in the mountains of Afghanistan sharpend it prob. 3 times held a great edge and was always reliable for whatever I needed it for awesome is my word for it ...HOOAH!!!!!!!!
possibly the best knife system I have purchased.i have been buying gerber products for years and this is the one do it all go to knife in my arsenal, great job gerber
I carried this knife while deployed to Iraq and it never let me down. It's a good knife for an Infantry Soldier to carry and use.
This is probably the best all round knife I have ever owned. The weight and balance are perfect for just about any job I have ever needed it to do.
Excellent customer service. Highly recommend Gerber and their products. I am currently deployed to Afghanistan and even from here they were able to help me with an issue I had with this knife. They quickly mailed me a replacement part no questions asked.
i really liked it untill it broke off at the tip trying to open a car door like in the video. It was very sharp out of the box but the serrated part didn't hold its edge very long at all. It did cut rope and 550 paracord very well. Its a good knife but mine is useless now. Be careful with yours!!!
Great knife system. Carried one on my aviator survival vest for two tours in Afghanistan, and carry the civilian model in my pack whenever going into the wilds. I always have the LMF II in my butt pack which goes with me anytime I enter the woods or go off road in my Jeep. Light enough to carry as a primary survival knife, but incredibly durable. Has kept its edge through a lot of use, to include cutting up kindling for fires and cutting through some smaller brush while clearing a camp site. Highly recommend.
it is the best for all purposes and it will get you through and situation and you will come out alive. and fyi, just because its infantry doesn't mean it is not a survival knife.
Great knife with great features. The sheath is probably one if the best features and has a nice built in sharpener. But you probably won't need to use it because this knife stays sharp for a while
i own 4 of these knifes and i am never in the woods without one. it has been one of the toughest knifes i have ever owned. i would recomened it to anyone looking for a solid reliable knife.
I like this knife, its great sturdy and even though it's a little too Rambo for my taste it is good for what it is meant to be used for. As for the tang not being a full tang, this goes to MICHAEL, it is intended that way for when you have t do some "Tactical" electrical work, and not get electrocuted. Thus they say its insulated.
been to hell amd back with me
cutting down 1.5 in trees
looks kinda rough now but thats a badge of honor that proves you and your knife can DO things
I love this knife. it ok for chopping. serratios are great. but the glass breaker has a little wobble
I've had this knife for about a year know, and I have abused the heck out of it and it's been just shredding up what ever is in it's way. I will tell any one that this is worth buying!!
I bought the Gerber LMF Survival and as usual curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to know what was inside the handle. I took the rubber over-mold off the plastic under it and of course it wasn't full tang as expected. So I came up with a solution, I welded the butt and the blade together with my stick welder using a 1/8 inch 7018 welding rod at about 100 amps or so ,then took some hemp and wrapped the "full tang now" knife handle with it many times until I was satisfied with the new handle shape. Next I went to Wal-mart and purchased some Gorilla Glue and put it over the hemp"(be careful to cover the blade if you try this as it can mess the blade finish up). After the glue drys take a Dremel and sand to the desired shape and "presto" you have a full tang Gerber LMF with a really tuff handle. Now be aware if you do this it will no longer be insulated blade to handle from electric shock(and it will probably void the knives warranty), but for all you survival/bushcraft junkies that crave full tang it certainly is better! Other than that this knife is great and the steel is awesome. Also works great for batoning wood!! -Michael W
the blade broke in half. better steel should have been used. i didn't bend it or anything. i just hacked some wood and it broke
awesome knife.. man it looks and feels amazing! the sheath is awesome and the blade shaves hair right out the box!!!
beefy knife but does the job. i went mountian biking and chopped in once slice some thick branches to blaze a trail..
the top of the hand grip peels from the sheath i hope gerber replaces this if it wears out
This is the perfect knife for airmen in the field that can rely to get out of a plane and survive with it no problem. In my experience, it performed greatly batoning wood and making feather sticks to start a fire. I would reccomend this knife to anyone!
my friend told me about this knife as soon as he got it he thourght it was great so i went out and bourght it and i still agree with my mate to ths day, there have been zlch problems with it and i found t the best knife ive ever owned
Well what can i say. Its great, the sheath has so many applications and the knife itself is beefy. I couldnt imagine what it would take to break it. Handle is nice and tacky, you won't loose the stick to it at all. See why the military approves is
i am buying this knife tommarrow! i cant wait to own this bad ass knife ! it has everything but birthcontrol, what else could u whant in a knife? the only other thing i can think of is if it fired a 40 caliber round. so i guess that means u guys got it all in this blade . good job gerber!
Absolutely AWESOME knife. Worth every penny. The first time you hold it in your hand, you know its a quality knife. BEEFY full tang construction. I read about some Marines snipers using this knife to make a hold in a BRICK WALL to shoot through, and I dont doubt it for a second. You cannot break this knife, its an axe, a machete, and a pry bar all rolled into one sick knife. Awesome sheath, too, with a BUILT IN SHARPENER. USA made. Gerber is one of the best companies, period. Quality craftmanship, excellent customer support, and when they say "lifetime warantee", they mean it!! If you're considering buying this knife, STOP CONSIDERING and buy it already!!!!
Fantastic Knife (afghanistan test) !!!! I need only the sheath, where I can find this ???? Heeeeeeelp :(
Had the LMF II for about a year. I have used it to chop wood with a baton countless times. It has been in the rain and snow still having no problems. Plan to get another soon as a back-up. Great Job!!
I have owned this knife for over a year now. I am a hunter, minimalist backpacker, as well as law enforcement trained. When I go into the woods or anywhere for that matter, I have this knife with me. I have used it to break windows at vehicle accidents, chopping wood, and butchering elk. I have not had any major problems with this knife. When I need it, It WORKS!! From numerous activities the forward lugs on the handle did get cut and beat up, but I just took a lighter and heated the rubber and remolded it. I bought one for a family member to take on depoyment and now that he is back the knife is always near him. I would suggest this knife for anyone in military, law enforcement, or ourdoorsman. Thank You gerber.
happy as larry that i could pick one up without the "credentials" gerber want. got it today as a hunting knife, solid build and cant wait to use it. would of liked it more without serrations though.
This is the most awesome knife ever! I have used it nuemoures times hunting to chop wood and even make home made stake stir a ground blind. Just be careful not to beat up the handle when hammering. Having this knife in the woods is like having a machete, saw, and knife all in one.
I love this knife!!!
I Love this knife! the serrations are fantastic and it can compete with any other knife of its size in chopping ability. cuts through wood like a stick of butter. Nice job Gerber!
Great knife. Never was far from me in Afghanistan Used it chop, cut, scare some locals and even to pry doors open after we were hit with a blast. The blade never failed and the pommel is really handy. If when I die I and go to hell, I want this knife with me.
amazing knife, my dad owns one and i borrowed it a few times and it got me through everything i took it into, for christmas my dad got me one of my own and the grip started to peal off near the blade but gerber replaced it no questions asked
Great knife i carried it through marjah Afghanistan, wish i had it back in fallujah. Only problem i encountered was the dry heat cause one of the saddle clips on the top of the sheath to break. It was such a great knife i bought a second one immidiatly when i returned home
This is one of the best knifes you could possibly own! It may be heavy but it is so effective its not even funny! I tied on a fire rod and a survival whistle to my knife. If I had a dozen choices this is the knife I would get lost with! I LOVE USA MADE!!!
I carried this knife through Iraq, Afghanistan, and even North Africa. This tool never let me down. It was daily exposed to drenching sweat, sand, extreme heat, and humidity. This knife is STRONG and durable, with great edge retention. Thanks Gerber! Will
Great knife just got it today but the blade and the handle finish could be better it looks like it had been lightly used but that does not affect the feel of the knife I like it allot. I have always had great luck with Gerber knifes. This knife should wor
