A portable, compact axe that travels well in the kit of hikers and outdoor aficionados, the 9" Hatchet combines light heft and an ultra-sharp blade known for its edge retention. Its size makes it ideal for chopping kindling, along with splitting small logs. With a low-friction surface coating, the hardened forged steel blade of this axe slices through wood at a depth that is three times greater than average, allowing for faster chopping and maximum overall performance efficiency. The coated surface also prevents the blade from sticking in the wood, and its high-capacity potential prevents body strain.
Possessing a shock absorbing handle that helps in prevention of overstrike injury, the 9" Hatchet offers great grip and superior hand control. Balanced perfectly for exertion-to-weight ratio, this lithe little axe swings with a solid, easy feel. Its hardened forged steel blade, in conjunction with the unique grind technique engineered for a sharper edge, will make sharp, clean cuts for far longer than average, making this an intuitive kit axe for camping and beyond.
Back for more after finally shattering the handle of this hatchet. Original received as a gift ~15 years ago. Here's to another 15 years.
I have had this excellent tool fro probably the better part of 20 years. It has accompanied me on 8 combat deployments as part of my go bag. When I first purchased it I took a stone to the edge to clean up the burr and within 60 seconds I could was shaving the hair off my arm. with a little motivation you do anything from build a fire to put a roof over your head. Easily one of the best edged tools I own still.
Got mine for $20, don't know why you'd spend more than $30 on a hatchet, especially one that doesn't tout some sort of quality steel. This one does alright for what I spent. I wanted a small beater hatchet I could carry and pack with a small profile. That's what this does. It's made of cheap steel, rusted after the first time I sharpened it, I have to assume it's some sort of high iron forged steel, can't find information on what it's actually made of. But, for $20, this was worth it.
For $58 I can buy 2 -18 inch Ontario Machete's with a saw back spine and are American made. This is WAY over priced!!
I have used this thing camping & hunting on foot and from canoes. It will an edge better than most knives I've had. Makes light work of chopping chores. Had mine for well over 10 years. Love it so much I trusted it on every deployment I went on for OEF/OIF and others all over the world...
