still have mine - got It when I was on the ship back In the days ( USS CONSTELLATION CV-64 ) and It Is still good as new
the grip on It Is the best for working In any conditions / the sweat from your hands when In the sand box ( the persian gulf ) did not slip when you were working on stuff - I would recommend this knife to anyone and everyone
The steel on this knife is fantastic. It's got a gorgeous shine to it. However, the belly of the blade seems to lose its edge fairly quickly and wasn't as sharp out of the box as I would have liked. When it comes to the handle, the plastic on the top feels very cheap and slippery. Lastly, do not use this knife in wet weather! When the rubber on the handle gets wet, the knife will slip out of your hand very easily.
First day I saw it at my local Cabela's I knew I had to get it. This is such a beautiful knife and an excellent tribute to the long-running "Gator" series. I own both the older 420hc Gator and this new S30v model. It's like night and day. All the little touches they made on this one really shine. I love the jimping, the open hole on the blade, the polished bolster, and the textured gator-skin handle. The other reviewer here who says the sheath sucks doesn't know what he's talking about. It's leather. It's thick and very good quality. Most other manufacturers are moving into nylon sheaths and Gerber got it right with this knife.
I just got this in the mail and it is a great knife. It feels solid, like you can really put it to use, and the gator skin is like nothing ive seen.
Very well done Gerber
i have 3 issues with this knife
1. the sheath is medium quality, could be better quality.
2. the plastic section on the handle sucks, it's too slippery. they should've used the same rubber material instead.
3. being a premium, they should've added a nickel pommel to balance the knife and give it a more premium look
