Prop 65 WARNING
Speaking directly to the EDC [everyday carry] community, the Fastball offers premium American craftsmanship within reach for daily use.
Balls of Stainless Steel technology leverages a ball-bearing system, providing Gerber’s smoothest, most consistent deployment to date. Stainless steel balls reduce friction for seamless opening every time. The cage system is designed to keep the balls contained for stable performance over the long haul.
This knife DOES NOT open easily - when compared to every other such knife i have ever owned, this one finishes absolutely dead last in that function.Since it is impossible (for me) to open the knife one handed, the $100 knife DOES NOT get used. Perhaps if there were some way to adjust it for one handed operation, I could enjoy what otherwise appears to be a fine knife. As it is, I am very, very disappointed with it. Try before you buy!!!
This is my 4th Gerber knife purchase in just under a year, and let me be the first to say, this new knife is going to be a lifelong companion!!
The Fastball makes for a perfect EDC knife, and is well worth the investment. It's not the largest knife out there, but for what it is, it's a rock-solid companion.
I've several automatic knives (Gerber of course), and felt the need for a smaller/lighter EDC. The Fastball fits this bill well, and being available in multiple colors, it is well-suited to just about everyone's EDC loadout. While I love my automatic knives, every now and then it's nice to carry a "traditional" knife. Also, it's not bad to have a dependable "non-auto" knife around, especially if you'll be traveling through an area where an auto could garner unwanted attention.
All in all, if you're thinking of adding another Gerber to your collection, I can't recommend this little knife enough. It's solid as can be, feels great in the hand, comes razor-sharp out of the box, and being built with S30V steel, will last for many years of service without issue.
