No matter the problem you are solving for in the wild, you are more than likely going to need your hands. The Hands-Free Torch is an adjustable head lamp with three settings (bright, low, off) that allow you to tackle any task, hands-free or otherwise.
When solving problems in the wild you need three things - your head, your hands and your tools. The Hands-Free Torch frees up your hands to work in concert with your head and your tool. The elastic headband offers storage for an additional battery and the adjustable lamp has three settings - bright, low and off. Bear says it best, “When all is dark, shine on.”
wery bright light and baterries stand long
i now 3 people who have one of these and thy sed is pervect
This is bright enough, sturdy and one of my better lower priced headlamps. Sure it does not have a red LED but its nothing even close to a 1 star review. Do not let that review sway you. I never had an issue with a white light and bugs, it does not restrict my iris because I am not looking into it and I get plenty of battery life out of this thing and always have a spare in the head strap.
I've worked in the wilderness (wilderness therapy) for 7 years. A headlamp is one of the most essential tools out there. It is funny that non-wilderness people always seemed shocked when I break out a headlamp at a festival or other event; but if you have a flashlight (torch) among wilderness pros, you're going to be laughed at. All that said; a headlamp with no red-light just shows this missed the touch of actual wilderness professionals in the design. White light draws bugs, constricts your iris, and burns batteries. There rest of this line is so amazing, please bring this up to it's standards.
I have owned a lot of head lamps. Some expensive and some cheap. I bought this one more out of curiousity than anything else. I give this head lamp a top rating for one reason and reason only: "dependablity". It is easy to turn on in the dark, so you don't have to fish around for the switch or find the right setting. You push the switch on the side and the light comes on. It doesn't have the red light, but unless you are in the military, you're not going to need it. It is small and compact and surprisingly durable. I've dropped this light numgerous times and it still works and I put this lights through a lot, when I go monster hunting. If you need a head lamp for a desent price and is dependable than this is the head lamp for you.
born survivalisto`s review I read. This product just can't compete with the Princeton Tec headlamps. They are both waterproof up to 3 meters and up to 115 lumens. I would love to see Gerber make a headlamp that had those features and come in REALTREE camo patern.
I own the BG survival knife and multitool, and have used them multiple times with alright outcome, but just looking at the handle of the knife makes me angry that it looks like china garbage, unlike the usual Gerber products. i liked the knife before but now i just want to get some real military knives by Gerber! and the multitool has an orange initials blazing on the handle and makes it look dumb. Ship me a suspension and a LMF and ill be happy! dont buy the BG stuff, its not Gerber. its china
Cool torch, but cannot compete with Princeton Tec. I wish this torch was just waterproof, and possibly had a center head strap for more stability. Also, the AA instead of AAA would be better.
Can't wait for the Torch II.
Because strobe would get in the way of the interface and just be annoying to scroll through each time. This is designed for actual use outdoors without gimmicks just for showing off to friends.
The actual problem is the massive size for only a AAA light. One AA holds 2.5x or above the power of a AAA and will run that much longer, and there are many AA headlamps smaller than this one. For a 'survival' headlamp I would have thought this would have been taken into account..
If it had a strobe and was waterproof i would buy it, even if it cost alittle more money. But the way it is now i wouldnt. My Princeton Tec is better then that one.I love Gerber and Bear Grylls so step it up alittle and make this light better !
