Not everyone can have a firm grip on life. But just about anyone can have a firm grip on their knife. That is, if they happen to be the owner of a Gator II Folder: The latest, most ergonomically advanced version yet of Gerber's famous thermoplastic grip technology. These remarkable grips fit in the hand so precisely, so comfortably, you'll be looking for something to cut. Plus, the built-in thumb rests combine with the notched spine grips for maximum control and agility. The stainless steel blade opens effortlessly with one hand, thanks to the strategically-located thumb hole. The accompanying sheath is constructed of thermoformed ballistic nylon, and accommodates the optional gut hook. But what about the alligator skin texture on the handle? Heck, we just threw that in to make sure you never lose your grip.

This has to be one of the most solid knives Gerber has ever built. I used a Gator for years until the Gator II came along.
It is a reasonably priced, US made folder that has a grip that works under all conditions, and with the serrated blade it cuts what needs to be cut. Nothing fancy, just a solid performer at a fair price. I have heard that it is being discontinued, I sure hope not, as I feel that the Gator II is about the most bang for the buck in the large folder world. Oh, it fits into the old Gator sheath just fine, and this makes it a real easy carry on the belt.

I bought my first Gerber Gator back in the late 1980's. I loved that knife and would still have it, but I lost it on a Combat parachute jump into Grenada. I got hung up on the outside of the aircraft. I cut my static line so I could get free of the aircraft. I dropped it and couldn't look for it when I landed. It saved my life.

I bought the Gator 2 mostly because of (a) solid performance of Gator 1 (b) Reviews on which is where I bought mine for $19.99 It came with a solid sheath with a hidden pocket inside! I will take this knife to Afghanistan in a few months. I have no doubt it will perform better than I expect!
