My husband has used this knife for years not the same one. He either loses them or breaks them. He is a diesel mechanic it's one of his tools. I am a little bummed we used to get this knife at a pretty reasonable price but now they have doubled in price and very difficult to find. I will probably just buy from here when he nerds another one because it will happen.

I have had this knife for years and it still works smoothly and properly. It is the best knife I have ever carried and used heavily. From skinning small game to just having as a regular carry, this has been the perfect knife. Recently however, it was stolen from me. Betty if you see this, I miss you. Please come back

I have it more than 10 years. Traveling, hiking, camping, fishing, enduro moto trips, etc. All kind of hard work. Recently used it to split some firewood because didn't have any other tools, so it have loosened a little. Disassembled it, cleaned and now it's like new again. Well made knife, reliable and handy. I'd like the blade to be a little thinner though.

I’ve had this knife for probably 2 almost 3 years roughly. Time flies. But anyway. I use it roughly everyday and I’m recently single and I keep it on me everyday in my jeans and I’m convincing my friend to buy one and reading the description of this now I’m just noticing the thumb stud option for opening so that’s good news. But anyway. I really do love the knife and it hasn’t lost it’s sharp blade in the time I’ve had it. My brother and dad have always had gerber knives so it was fitting when I bought one. My ex loves that I have one. .

I have had this knife for exactly one year, and have used it every single day as an EDC. The blade is still in perfect shape, the size makes it perfect for a low profile carry and it feels really good in the hand. Awesome knife!

Had this knife about a year, been my everyday carry and I can’t fault its performance, it’s easy to use, hard wearing and durable.
However. As the mechanism has loosened up a little with wear, it is now possible to flick this knife open (making it quite illegal where I live) so will not be able to carry it any more.

Of all the Gerber knives I've purchased, and other brands I've owned, I absolutely love the simplicity and quality of this folder. It's sized well for smaller hands. The thumb stub action opening is smooth. Even though I prefer flippers or assisted opening blades, I make the exception for this piece. If you are looking for an inexpensive knife with good quality for daily use, this is the way to go.

This knife opens very well and the g-10 handle gives a good grip in wet conditions. Also the blade doesn't rust at all. But the the blade steel is soft and don't expect to bend it and have it come back to true. This knife would be good for sailing or boating.

  • |BY: , Just one little detail to fix you guys...

The only thing that holds the Air Ranger back a little bit is that the tab for depressing the liner -lock needs to be at least 1mm more raised out from the edge of the frame so that it can be comfortable to open right away. The way they are now... I have to put oil in there and work it to death before it becomes semi-comfortable to do quickly with one hand. I now own both models because I liked how I don't even notice carrying the partial serrated one. And I wanted to get the fine-edge bladed one for a backup to my replaceable scalpel-blade skinning knife when processing an animal while hunting. To be used when separating skull from vertebrae, and to help in popping knee joints and hip-socket joints so I don't have to spend as much time working at it with more finesse like you do with the scalpel blades. Umm... also.. I have to say that I actually like the Aluminum handles more, their checkering is more grippy. But the Aluminum handles are a bit softer in material. So that's a possible trade-off.

Like other reviewers, I was drawn initially to the higher priced Air Ranger aluminium. I still like the look of the latter preferentially, but the specs, materials, etc for the two blades are essentially identical except the handle material.

This is a very good EDC/gentleman's knife. strong medium sized blade with grippy G-10 handle, positive lock (none of the problems a few others have reported), and sharpens up nicely (whatever the unspecificied steel, probably 7Cr or lower). And, while not an AO design, a sharp[/firm push to the thumb stud will snap the block into the locked position pretty reliably. For a $25 street price, this is one terrific knife. Recommended.

  • |BY: , Good concept but too flawed to carry

I went to the store a while back to buy an aluminum Air Ranger & saw this as well. I went with this due to the non-serrated blade (which is pretty uncommon to see on a larger than 3 inch Gerber) & the coated instead of bare bead blasted steel. Overall a really interesting knife but lock is dangerous to utilize for anything but very light tasks.

-Quite sharp (near mirrored) & had an impressively consistent edge bevel. Sharpest Gerber factory edge I've seen besides my BG (now US1).
-Lightweight for a steel lined G10 knife
-Pocket clip has good tension
-Looks sleek yet still retains that signature gorgeous Harsey silhouette
-AMAZINGLY smooth given its manual operation. Super fun to play with if you're a compulsive knife flicker. All with no side-to-side play.
-Strong detent keeps it folded, no danger of it popping out.
-G10 feels nicely grippy yet isn't rough enough to ruin your pants.

-Very odd base of the bevel grind would make it very difficult to sharpen without heavy modification
-Spine ramp jimping is essentially aesthetic. Just soft bumps.
-Liner lock is surprisingly difficult to move by hand & quickly causes a fairly experienced thumb to become sore.
-Though I don't expect 7Cr17MoV to be incredible, the blade steel is very soft. Exhibited chips almost instantly from tasks my other knives (which are of equivalent price/steel) would handle fine. Don't know if I merely got a poorly-tempered blade or not.

The reason I CAN'T recommend it:
-The liner lock significantly moves even with the slightest pressure on the blade. I haven't gotten it to fail but I've almost unlocked it just by pressing against the blade with my hand. I can't carry this anymore. If I wouldn't have noticed this I am positive it would have failed on me and I'd possibly get quite injured. I think it might be the coating on the liner where it meets the blade or the other way around.

Cool knife but too much of a risk to use.

Nice light sturdy knife with a somewhat better blade material than Im used to in Gerber knives, at least this one holds edge fairly well. Its a tiny bit large for my daily pocket carry, but thats a personal thing. The pocket clip could have been used to lock a gate so it had to go, that left a hole in the handle.I would have preferred the open assist stud to be a mm further out from the pivot to give a bit of improved leverage for opening. My hands are large. I have recommended the knife and would buy another myself

About the only thing that I'd like to see changed is to have the lip of metal for depressing the liner-lock down in order to unlock be protruding ever-so-slightly farther out to make it just a tiny bit easier to push against.

Everything else is great!

Love this knife. Got the green handle with the fine edge blade. Super sharp out of the box. Blade was a little stiff at first but with constant use it opens smoothly now. Super light too. I don't even feel it in my pocket. Best Gerber yet.

The blade came sharp but it wiggles side to
side up & down. Pocket clip wiggles side to
side easily. Every screw/bolt was loose.

The paint comes off easily when scuffed.

I have had Gerber Gear, Gerber Knives, Gerber Tools and Gerber Tactical Pens I
rate all of it at 5 stars except the Gerber
Air Ranger.

Good ergos, nice and sharp out of the packaging, and lightweight. If you guys did this in a high performance steel, it would be your #1 seller!

I've had this for a couple of years and carry it every day. It's been interior camping, used at work and around the house. Lightweight and good quality, I'd buy it again if I lost it.
