Answer F.A.S.T. XL, Tanto, Serrated
The Answer F.A.S.T. XL assisted opening folding knife, developed in order to provide lightning-quick access to a knife when most needed, is a Gerber tactical innovator. The dual thumb studs operating in conjunction with the smart safety-slide lock offer an intuitive ease of utility. The Answer F.A.S.T XL, building on its smaller sibling’s profile, does as the name suggests: once in the hands of the owner, problem-solving is a snap.
ASSISTED OPEN FOR LIGHTNING QUICK USE
Using one hand, intuitively flip open the Answer F.A.S.T. XL tanto-style folder while actively engaged in cutting into a box, tearing through a cord, or snapping ties or netting. With its 4-inch partially serrated hardy stainless steel blade coated in black oxide for low visual signature, this assisted-open knife can stand up to tough application. Its super-solid anodized aluminum handle will tolerate muscular utility while keeping weight at a minimum, and the textured inlay on the handle allows for confident use by its operator. Jimping on the upper handle beneath the thumb and curvature of thoughtfully positioned lower finger grooves are built for easy ergonomic functioning and grip with this sturdy knife when downrange.
LOCK DOWN INSURANCE FOR SAFETY
Engage the capable 7 ounce folder’s safety slide locking mechanism with the thumb once the blade is deployed; the blade can then be closed one-handed after the slide lock is compressed upward merely by flipping it down against a hard surface. Tip-down carry makes it easy to bring the Answer F.A.S.T. XL out of a pocket, engage the safety-slide lock, and open the knife wherever and whenever the need for a strapping knife might arise. A stainless pocket clip is attached, and a lanyard hole in the pommel provides for the option of tie-down for additional security.

This knife is 14 years old now and has opened countless feed bags , cute rope , and cleand deer and hogs with only a minimal amount of maintance , I am very hard on this knife and it has always been a great tool , and neaver broke the tip off and hold a sharp edge cause it is easy to maintain
when I had mine it made a very great EDC knife, however just as a hint keep this thing away from a sandy environment. as apart of my EDC I carried it to the beach every day during vacation and about three days into my vacation sand got into the inner locking mechanisms and failed after that the blade wouldn't spring open nor would stay closed so I had to retire it. eventually I took it apart one day to fix it which its an extremely complex knife to take completely apart clean and get back together properly so I don't recommend trying to do so. I did however get it apart and almost get it back together when, from my understanding of the knife, the locking lever or some of the such snapped in half on me when I was trying to put it back in place. I was very angry at the time because I had spent three hours getting it completely apart cleaned and the last piece to be put on before putting the side plate back on snaps in half on me. other than that this thing came out of the box dangerously sharp and fast on the draw with a great durable pocket clip and slim design I am debating whether or not to get another one
I love this knife so much I bought a second one. I am a huge fan of the side lock/release tab vs putting my finger in the path of the blade to close. The spring assisted open is nice, but it does take awhile to smooth out. I opened and closed the knife dozens of times to smooth out the action and now it is like butter. I highly recommend this knife.
I had to have Gerber send me a set of replacement thumb pegs on two separate occasions because the pegs fell off and I lost one of them. The second time I used super glue and a hammer to make sure the pegs don't fall off again. Still a bit of a hassle. I finally broke it when I used it as a hammer. Sending to Gerber in the hopes they will make it all better. Still a decent knife in my opinion.
The F.A.S.T. System failed after about 3 weeks of marginal use. Before that I was disappointed pretty much right out of the box. The blade was very dull, the set was pretty loose nothing a little tighten wouldn't fix, the handle/grip was ok but scratched really easily. All in all I took it back and got my money back.
the knife is good but the delta spec ops by Fox is better
For a knife that is in the tactical bracket, not to have "variable" positioning for the clip I found surprising and disappointing.I just thought GERBER, wouldn't over look small things.
Very sharp knife, good for cutting wood and has a very nice serrated edge. Only problem is that the handle gets kind of scratched and banged up.
I HAD TO SEND MY BACK TWICE DUE TO ISSUES WITH THE KNIFE I WONT BUY ANOTHER ONE IT IS MADE OF SOFT STEEL AND THE TIP HAS BROKE TWICE
I WILL NOT RECOMMEND!!! THEY SAY THE F.A.S.T. (Forward Action Spring Technology) IS GREAT BUT REALLY ITS A PILE OF CRAP. IT BARELY OPENS THE BLADE AND IT SOUNDS AWFUL. THE SPRING JUST SOUNDS SO CHEAP AND FEELS LIKE IT BINDS UP.... THANKS GERBER FOR LETTING ME DOWN. WILL NOT BUY ANYMORE KNIFES.
I just got mine today and already love it. It opens easily and closes real easy too. INCREDIBLY SHARP!! My only complaint is that the thumb-stud is pretty hard on the skin of my thumb and at first it was stiff to open but who cares. This knife is awesome and i recommend it to anyone who wants a totally KICK-ASS KNIFE
I love the looks and action of this blade but my friend who is an expert keeps telling me not to get Gerber knives. What do i do?
Havent used this knife much but while familiarizing myself with it I realized the blade is not centered. One side of the thick portion of the blade rubs against the inside of the handle when opening/closing. Should have sent it back but probably wont waste the effort. It is still functional however the more I use it the worse the wear mark on the side of the blade gets.
Knife handles scratch easily, blade dulls quickly. Lockup is loose, and blade does not stay in handle when closed.
Love this knife a lot. When mine arrived, it was really sharp all over the blade and both of the points were pretty sharp as well. It's a sturdy knife, the blade is kind of thick, which I like a lot. It's awesome to flick this thing open for the first time. It locks right into place and it feels solid while it's open. Love the grip, too. The handle does scratch pretty easily, though, but that isn't much of a setback.
best knive i have ever had
i dont know what bens talking about this is a good knife so what if you need to sharpen it once a month i do that with all my knifes and this knife is best so far it does what i need it to
it s reliable durable and good quality
the best tactical knife
it s a great knife
it s a great knife
Great knife I have no bad things to say exept one word of advise don't drop it even the slightest drop and the blade won't lock and will be loose when the blade is open. Other than that great knife I've had mine for 2 years and still works like magic
I'm not sure what other people are using this knife for, but unless you're subjecting this blade to improper use it should work just fine. I've had mine for 2 years and it's worked like a champ. The only thing that it has needed was a good tightening of the screws once a month; nothing to complain about.
I just sent my second Answer FAST XL back to Gerber because the knife went bad again. It dulls too quickly, the thumbstuds came off, the side plates were coming off, the locking mechanism didn't actually keep the blade locked down inside the handle the blade literally almost stabbed me in the leg when i sat down one day, and the blade itself was extremely loose. I recommend that NO ONE buy this knife you'll be severely disappointed if you do.
it is really relible and ive used it for 5 years and havent had a problem
Do not buy this knife. I had it for 2 weeks and the blade bent on me,dulled out, and the screws for the belt clip were already striped. Definately needs a sharper blade and something stronger.
Don't get this knife. The blade can't hold a sharp edge and the blade lock wears out after a year. Unless you don't mind slicing your fingers up whenever you use it, don't get it.
Bought it three weeks ago. The belt clip broke off fourth time I wore it. Luckily did not lose knife. Like the serrations. Not that impressed with quality of my first purchase.
I wouldn't recommend this knife for serious user.
1. The blade steel is too soft. Does not hold an edge at all. Can't be use for serious tactical/ defense situation.
2. When blade open and close too many times the blade would go dull without even using it. Took me a while to figure out why before I saw the edge touches the inside handle when folded. Bad design.
Even thou this piece is ver nice looking and the grip is not bad, but I would not recommend it to my friends and general knife community. It is just not a serious knife.
Great knife except for the clip which pops off very easily. Once the clip pops off, the screws get stripped and won't bite enough to keep the clip in place. I've had to send my first knife back and the second one fell apart within a couple of months as
I bought this knife from Gerber via Amazon (in Canada).
I'm extremely pleased with the quality of build, the handle is phenomenal, looks better then on the picture and feel extremely sturdy. The grip is perfect. The only thing, the FAST system doesn't sea
The Answer XL is an excellent folding knife. With its F.A.S.T. opening system and Tanto Blade makes it a top contender for a defense-offensive knife. I like the blade locking system over most all other production knife locking systems.
I want a knife like this, Tanto but without serrations
Wish it came with a plain blade. The serrations are a pain in the butt
