Reviews
great overall knife!!!! i use it ALOT, so i'm sharpening it bout once a week.... but like a timex.... it keeps going!! As I found out though the handles strength is in the locking mechanism. And although you can cut about anything but steel, DON'T bend or twist the knife at all!!! But YES I would definatelly recommend!!!
deer bear,
i love your knifes and tools i've been looking at most of your knives in the survival colom,im really diging your
bear grylls folding(seath)knife
but i would also like survival tips
your number 1 fan
James,Millions
i had one that the point broke but it still sharp
I've had this for quite a while now and its awesome oh and I'm just a kid...............bear grills PLAY MORE MAN VS WILD ...oh almost forgot i got the man vs wild game on ps3 and thats truly awesome.....................but the knife is cooler
I've had this knife for over a year now and its still going. I am in the trades flooring industry and i must say this knife is a bang for its buck. Im always using it to scrap drywall mud and motor clump off concrete and etc....i also use it to shave baseboards and sharpen various stuff. The blade get dull every now and then but all it needs is a couple passes with a blade sharpener and your back in the game. Dis regard all the negative comments that you always here cause its personal preference. For $29 your getting a quality knife for dirt cheap. I beat my knife into the ground and i'm happy with everything about it. You will get the odd lemon off a production line but that is why we have return policies. My vote is Gerber all the way.
Love this knife way worth the money razer sharp out of the box and last long too perfect for someone looking for a knife for daily use
same as other said got it from Christmas serrated edge nicked-up tip bent to tight to open one handed and one screw jacked up all and all was discovered the first time it was pulled out of the box
Cons: Sure the knife doesn't hold its edge like my quite pricey Kershaw, but what do you expect for the price?
Pros: This has been my EDC knife ever since I got it (so long ago I cannot remember). It is to the point where I do not even notice it is there anymore. I have abused this knife to no end, and it still hangs in there.
When it gets a little dull, I just take a Smith's Pocket Pal sharpener to it. 5 strokes on coarse, 5 on fine, back to a great edge. I do not see why people complain that they spend so much time sharpening it. It isn't rocket science people, it is a knife. The more you use it, the more it will need sharpening. Most compare it to more expensive knives, but you can't do that. Apples to oranges...
Good product there Gerber, no big complaints from me. Great knife for the price!
I also took a Dremel to the back of the blade to polish off the anodizing, so it will work on a swedish firesteel. Is there a way to incorporate that into your next design?
It's a great secondary knife. It's lightweight and came razorsharp right out of the box. It has a very grippy handle, but the serrations are easily breakable. I've had other gerber knifes (made in the USA ... not as this one), and they were just fine.
So I'd say it's not a bad knife, but if you carry it for an extended every day use, look elsewhere
I just got this knife for christmas, what happens? The scerations bend in a minute. All i did was cut a pencil tthin branch with the saw part. Buy this knife from some where that you can look it over first. A deparptemnt store is best. check for defects. The blade gets dull faster than i would like, please read and watch reviews online and on youtube. Decently sharp out of box, could be better.
Started using it, great so far. Lets see what happens.
Knife is good for beginners but a pain the the butt. Blade is too short to have effective serrations. Blade does not stay sharp very long.
Clip is very nice to have. The locking mechanism is nice to have but needs to be worked in.
Over all, a decent knife for the price.
I love it! A little slow when opening but there's no reason to have it open any faster. Light, easy to grip, durable handle. Good lock.. It keeps it's edge for quite a while and the pocket clip is a nice touch and the blade size is perfect, not a big bulky inconvenience but at the same time big enough to get the job done. Wonderful blade although I'd say it's slightly overpriced but you get what you pay for!
This knife is amazing. The serrations were finely honed with no edge garbage like on some "top brands. The blade was perfectly sharp and retains it's edge very well. The grip is excellent even when wet. I carry this knife any time I am away from home for more than the groceries, and it has been severely used and abused, and still going strong.
I like the knife alot, but im having alot of trouble sharpening it.
This knife is amazing I love the video and all his stuff is amazing and it is just an amazing knife
the scout is a great blade i've had it for a year now used it every from edc to survival
but i think they could make it with a faster opening system my scout is so slow i want to take a mini toute screw to it
Great knife, isn't a average compact size knife and isn't quite a full-sized fixed knife. I like to be able to carry my knife in my pocket. This knife is PERFECT! Can handle bigger jobs due to the slightly bigger blade and serrate, but still small enough to fit in my pocket. Great job
This knife wasn't the best I have ever had. I know Gerber builds amazing knives, but this one failed. I do ranching and farming, and after 2.5 months of use with this knife for everyday farming and ranching it was completely broken. A week after I bought it the blade went dull, I spent over a hour everyday sharpening the blade enough to just make it look sharp. It struggled to cut through hay baling twine which isn't thick really at all. And to make things worse the clip holder on it bent quickly from when I jumped off a horse and it just randomly bent and was ruined. Then after about 2 months the plastic blade casing broke right in half. This isn't the most expensive knife I have, but it doesn't live up to the price it comes with. The only cool thing about it is the color and shape of it. Thanks
Had the knife for a few weeks now. So far so good.
Wish they would have a fine edge version.
Understanding that Gerber will use some of the same blades from other knives, I have spent a few years looking for something I like that is not the paraframe and does not have a bulky handle. Found it in this! Big fan of Bear, and now of these products. Recently at a car accident, I had the chance to really see what the knife could do when I had to use it to cut two patients from their seat belts, air bags, and break a window.
I have had to replace it twice though as the clip as caught my seat belt twice and bent.
Well done Gerber!
It is a very good knife i am impressed with the quality except for the fact the clip on mine bent. But, other than that I am extremely satisfied with it.
This knife is cheap and comes sharp.
Great knife Gerber
Good solid knife but Gerber you need to fix the opening so it can open with one hand, but all and all it is a good knife and i would buy another one.
Most of Bear Grylls survival series are based on the rest of Gerbers knifes. This one is just like the Paraframe and his Ultimate Knife is just like the Prodigy but basically under his name and a few new things added to it.
Ive had this knife for three years and its not a good knife. Its chipped every sing part of the blade. My clip has bent way out. Every part of the knife that is metal is rusted. The lock is able to fail and im hoping my next gerber knife wont let me down like this one.
best knife i have had will last you forever
this is an exelent knife its very sharp light andit cuts throw almost anything if you want to get a good knife get this
Good knife for odd jobs around the house but not outdoor. I sharpened the knife after purchase and found it to be of poor quality. loses its edge quickly. Sad to say as I'm a great fan of bear.
This knife is really great. I keep it close at hand most places I go. It is just the right right size, and fits quite well in the hand, even with the clip. The closing mechanism is nice, especially In that you don't hae to put you hand in the way of the blade to close it.My only problem with it is that it dulls quickly. However, it is possibly one of the best knives if it is your first, like in my case.
had this knife for a good month or two but as i was walking through my friends house the pocket clip caught the edge of his couch and completely broke off it didnt bend but just straight up just *pinked* off but in the end still a really good knife. Nice if i could send it in to be repaired or replaced
i have had this knife for two years and keep it bed side for safety but i have used many times for scouting. i have found it is a great knife except the serrated portion chipped easely also i chipped the fine part of the blade and i looked on their product servise portion and they cant sharpen the serrated or else i think i would send it in and have them shrapen it to get the nick out
This knife is perfect for my scout troop. Its lightweight, and cuts lots of rope and wood. My whole scout troop got one after I showed them it.
This a a great knife, it is very sturdy. I've had it for about a year and it is still in great shape even though I use it often. The blade keeps its edge and even though I accidentally jammed the tip into a rock it did minimal damage and you couldn't even tell what happened after I sharpened it. I really recommend this knife.
I am a scout myself and i think it is a great knife it is compact but also very durebul
When I use this knife, in comes in handy on my missions, especially in Africa.
ive had this knife for almost a year now. its held up good i mostly use it for fishing but the blade come lose very easy.but other then that its a good knife
It's a great knife if u take care of it it well last forever and it came razer sharp if u are unhappy with this knife I think u a fail and dont know knifes
I've had this knife for a little over a year now. Price is not bad, and you get what you pay for. Fits the hand well, but have had a hell of a time keeping an edge. The belt clip is nice, dual thumb studs work well. Over all it works well for everyday carry, but I wouldn't bet on it in a survival situation.
Best anniversary present ever
Great Knife for the money, in size it is a little bigger than the Benchmade Mini-Griptillian but not as big as the regular Griptillian. It comes razor sharp (however the grind on mine was not symmetrical) and with a great pocket clip. The grips are good but the lock has much to be desired. For the money it gets Five Stars, but don't be comparing it to USA produced blades like Benchmades, Emersons and Leathermans as it is Made in China.
I've had this puppy for nearly a year now and the thing is just about as sharp as the day I bought it, which is surprising because I find a use for this thing almost every day! It's a really great choice for scouts, casual outdoorsmen or just for an EDC workhorse knife. The clip is handy, ambidextrous studs are a plus, it's weighted towards the handle a little, but it hardly matters. The grip is superb! What more can I say? Quite the bang for your buck!
I am a scout but with the locking blade and Beeing over 3'' it is not legal to be carried in the uk. Unfortunately If you are a scout in England legally going on hikes or camping which is classed as a public place as stated by the 1996 offensive wepons act. This would be a fantastic little knife if it didnt lock and a tiny bit shorter to only 3'' if it was it would be amazing.
i love this knife to cut small branches and for boy scouts its a great knife and it is, in my opinion the best for scouting and what scouts do. it is also good for camping and opening packages! that would be cool if they offered different colors and styles.
Great knife, cheap, sturdy and sharp (and stays sharp). But please give the option for a plain blade, I'm not a huge fan of serrated edges.
Was really looking forward to this knife, but was very disappointed when the blade would not close (set) properly into the handle. Unable to carry in pocket safely with this issue.
Small light wight Does The Job
It's the kinda knife that i always take with me when i am camping or hiking
got this knife at walmart couldnt be happier
got this knife today and i am really pleased with it. very light, fells good in your hand, compact, clips to your pants/belt.
great knife for a great price. cant wait to take it camping!
there should be a fine edge option for all of the knives i hate serated knives they dull to fast
i got this knife at walmart in covington GA and it the best i use it for everything you can think of always sharp and i had no problems with it yet and the best of all it only costed me 25 so every one out there needs to get this knife at a walmart if possible i mean i even sleep with it by my side im a huge bear gyrills fan i am going to get more of his proudects when i can
I love it, great product!
It is a great knife but it would be kinda nice to be able to get it in a different color and not just orange. So if you wanted to you could get it in blue or pink or camouflage or something like that.
there should be a fine edge option for all the knives
I love this knife but it would be nice to have a fine edge option like the Ultimate knife.
This is a fantastic knife, I bought it to replace my Gerber paraframe and I haven't been even close to disappointed! Great knife, great value, highly recommend it!
The knife is very good considering it comes from China.
I'm a big fan for the handle and of the fine edge which is razor sharp but the tips of the serrated edge got mangled really easily when cutting a green branch no bigger than my finger. A fine edge option, like the ultimate knife, would make this knife better.
the bear grylls scout is a fabuolas knife compact light you could survive if this was your only knife and not a bad price cause i got mine for 50$.
I got this knife when it first came out works amazing haven't had to sharpen it once, used it underwater as a dive knife worked awesome!! Would buy another one in a heart beat!
This is the best knife i have ever used
Not the best knife but it's pretty good for $29
cant chop nothing dull
i have owned this knife for about a year and it is my favorite knife out of all of the knives i own, including fixed blades and cold steel knives. this knife has never failed me.the ergonomic rubber handle is great because if your hands are wet the knife will never slip from your hand. it is very durable also. this knife is worth any penny but just go on ebay or amazon because it is a little bit expensive on gerbergear.com. buy this knife right now.
this is a great knife the only problem is the screw on the pocket clip comes loose and then it has some play in the blade. i wish this lanyard loop was bigger so i could put paracord on it over all gerber did a fine job designing it.
Tell Bear Grylls. That one huge fan of his was extremely disappointed with the quality of its folding it would not close properly I would say don't by this knife if you like good quality.....
some scouts arnt allowed locking knives or a knife of this size, good for camping but stick to swiss army knives for scouts.
I owned this knife for the better part of a year and it never failed me. In the last week of having it I was in a situation that forced me to have to cut down branches of a tree ranging from 2-3 inches in diameter and to my surprise it held up very well and got the job done. Not bad for a small scout knife. I highly recommend it to anyone going out for a camping trip or starting off as a scout.
Let me start of by saying that I am a huge fan of Bear Grylls. I got this knife for my 12th birthday and I love it. It is very light, sturdy and sharp. The handle feels very nice. The blade is a good thickness too. The lockback is nice so the blade doesn't flip back on your fingers. The pocket clip is another bonus. All in all this knife is very nice and I would recommend it.
Just received this knife today. Fits the hand very well when open. The thumb studs are pretty pointless as this knife is easier to deploy one-handed without using them then it is using them. But maybe my knife is particularly difficult to open and others don't have the same issue.
I do like the clip, but I've never had a pocket knife with a clip before so it's hard to appraise how good it is compared to other knife clips.
I would also like if the lock button was seated a little more forward but that's a small complaint.
i'd like to see a fine edge on this knife
I want this knife but i dont have got money :(. This knife look very good. In too the forest is original.
this was my second ever bear grylls item. its incredible light, and i can barely fell it in my pocket. the blade is very sturdy, but i was using it to cut small sticks for a fire and after i was done some of the black paint had come off. not a huge deal, considereing knives arent always going to be new. i really love the performance of the Scout. its never let me down.
Just picked one of these up... I love it. It is really lightweight, yet feels strong when I use it. Grip feels good, and I almost can't even feel it when it's clipped into my jeans pocket.
Great work in the design!
My new favourite pocket knife!
Great knife. The handle is good. I would recommened it!
I have had this for a while and have had no problems so far.
I am going to get one in Florida
I would liike to see this knife with a fixed blade style and a sheath like the ultimate knife and it would be better if it had a 4" blade other than that it is awesome i want it
I really like this knife it's reliable it's sharp openes and shuts smoothly. Buy this knife
would like to see a fine edge on this knife
like my description, i love this knife!
its perfect for everything i use it for.i'll go up in the woods and this is what i take.it is hands down the best scout knife ever!!
i have cut down trees 5 inches in circumference in under 5 minuets!!!
Bear Grylls, i am a HUGE FAN. the next knife i want is the ultimate
Before I became an Eagel scout I had this knife. I knew that I could rely on it for everything I would do, and I was right. The only problem is that it will rust very quickly. One night I was sitting by the campfire with the others when it started to pour heavy rain. In all of the comotion, I left it on the log I was on. The next day, the top of the blade was coverd in rust!
awesome
this would be awesome with a nylon sheath
Good blade, nice handle. Does not open smoothly. Out of all the knives I have owned designed to open one handed, this is the worse. It has a bad placement of thump stubs and does not open smoothly. It is easy to catch your thumb on the serrated blade when opening one handed. It is a poor design in that respect. Would not buy or recommend for youth.
I think that im going to get it at BCF in Australia
good knife... excellent design and handle, fits great in my hand and is actually a decent throwing knife, LOVE IT
Finally back on, should i get this one or the BEAR GRYLLS SURVIVAL SERIES, FOLDING (SHEATH) KNIFE?
i realy love this nice knife
Can you give me one for free? :(
ok knife nice rubber grip but the lock sucks it will drop on ur fingers easy and i cut wood for the first time with it and one of the surrations on it bended over and it doesnt work the same any more so im going to try to return it if i can
this is over all a great knife but it should have a sharpener
it does get dull
Quick, Light, Compact!!!
I'd like to know if the original Scout comes in a paper box or in a blister pack...
great knife but gets not sharp quick
I got this knife and it is great.
A buddy gave me this knife for Christmas, Very durable, nice thick blade - holds up very well. I chopped through a 1" wild grape vine in no time... No harm to the knife and it maintained a sharp edge.
this is legendary it never leaves my side
I recieved this knife for christmas and was very suprised. I took it out and cut a few zip ties on a toy my brother got. On around the fourth zip tie the knife slipped and i cut my finger. A few hours and stitches later i came back to the knife. what i like most about it is the deep belly on the blade.it is extremly sharp. the only draw back is that it is akward to carry as when folded it is squared.
Can you pls send these products to Malta because i am very looking forward to buy one. pls iam baging i realy like them
Can you pls send these products to Malta because i am very looking forward to buy one. pls iam baging i realy like them
I carried the Gerber EZ Out for years and love it. Just upgraded to this knife and have forgotten all about the others. A little bigger but a whole lot more knife. Great feel without being too heavy in your pocket. And my Son thinks it's cool because of the name. Honestly had to look up who Bear was. Sorry.
this is a great knife. I have always been keen on knifes but never carried one all the time. Now I take my scout with me where ever I go. I can use this little pigsticker all the time. I also love the way the grip fits my hand, makes it very easy to handel and just feels comfortable. One tip though, look after the blade espesially if it was exposed to water containing chemicals. rinse it well and dry it.
i have used this knife on wood paper rope and it held up with a great great locking blade and belt clip strong and my favorite this is great thanks gerber and bear grylls
mabye gerber should mak bear grylls compass and watch
this knife was a gift and i thought i might be cheaper because it was made in china but im surprised with its quality.
My frend has this knife and it is great, it is lightweight and barley ever needs sharpening. Also does anyone know where I can get this in sterling ( pounds)
Does anyone know where I can get this in sterlings
love this knife it is razor sharp.
Awsome knife for the money! I owned several other knives almost exactly the same, except one of the Bucks wasn't serated. Sharpest knife I hav ever owned, Holds an edge well, cool looks, cheap price, what more can you ask for? My personal favorite aspect of the knife other than comfort and looks is the fract that it's "partialy serated." I don't know how many times I have broked the points of serades or it fetched up on them!
Brilliant Knife!!! owned alot of knives in my time but nothing as comfortable, light or enjoyable to use as this knife.
Great knife and can save your ass in a lot of sticky situations
The most comfortable I have ever put in my hands ..Love it!
great knife had it for 2 months it does everything a hunter like me needs. straight from the box its razor sharp and i love the knife. great job gerber
it is sharp, light, and comfortable to hold. i would suggest it to anyone.
great knife not to big not to small, sharp, fits in hand, good grip, cheap, quick one hand opening i would defiantly recommend this knife. downside,s its not one hand closing and not the best quality but for $30 defiantly worth every cent.
awesome knife, very useful but was going to get folding (sheath) knife so glad i did not because my friends had got it and 2 of my friend's knife had already broke on our third trip.
fantastic
This is my go to knife for my job in the field. I work in EMS and have many uses for a knife, and my previous knife (of a different brand) broke on me in the field. Getting fed up with cheap knives I found Gerber. I think I will be a customer for a long time.
Great Knife but I have caught the belt clip while sitting. I t bent and broke when I tried to fix it...I am lost when I dont have this at my side
This is a good knife. The blade is strong and sharp, the handle is "grippy" and overall, its a great knife. I recommened it
Are there better knives, like this one, out there? Yes. Are there better ones for $29.00? No. Outstanding value for the cost...this knife will not disappoint.
I've had this knife for awhile. Its comfortable to use and seems to stay pretty sharp. It took no time at all for the clip the bend very badly. It caught on a seat belt and has almost bent all the way back. Not very impressed with it's durability for a survival knife.
best knife i ever owned. skinned a deer life butter
I've had this knife for almost 2 years, is absolutely amazing! Thanks Gerber!
Factory sharpening is not good. The knife should be resharpened. Perhaps, because it made in china
My be I'm wrong, but It looks like blade is hard enough to stay sharp. Factory's edge is just a bur.
I own the Scout and love it! I will pick up the larger folder today. I read reviews saying how poor this seris of knives is for chopping. If you want to chop buy an axe. Use your knife as a knife and stop whining.
Great blade would prefer if the orange was rubber.
Sharp right outta the box! I recommend it to any people who enjoy hunting/being a bad ass!
This is a basic ambidextrous thumb stud lock back. I'd like it better if the orange was blase orange. It doesn't hold an edge as well as my other Gerber knives and the edge bends. This lack of durability is disappointment.
I am not a fan of serrated bla
I've spent a good amount of money on high end pocket knives case, buck, old timer, cold steel. This is the best knife i've owned yet keeps a good edge, sturdy, practical. Best value as well.
this knife is great outa the box but it dont take or hold an edge.
Great Knife for the price. razor sharp right out of the box!! would highly suggest this knife to anyone
it`s a great knife, pocket, lightweight, very hard bot the better of all is the sharp, really good, no need maintenance in a long time, and it easy to clean (some very important in a pocket knife) another thing is the color mix... very attractive is n
I bought this knife a few months ago and I haven't gone a single day without it in my pocket. I'm an Eagle Scout and have gone through quite a few pocket knives over the years. This one definitely holds up to all the abuse I put it through. Sturdy and hol
This knife is very lightweight and very strong
Great knife use it for everyday gets the job done.Overall this knife is a great tool.
Great knife. I haven't gone a day in the past 6 month without this knife in my pocket.
I bought this knife and carry it everywhere(that is legal). I am a big fan of Gerber and bigger fan of Bear. While in the military i carried a similiar Gerber knife and just replaced it with Bear's. My previous one is over 6 years old and works like a cha
This is a good knife. I only have 2 problems with it. The first is that it is not very smooth at opening. The second is that the steel could be higher grade than it is. Other than that it is a super good knife. 4.5 stars... what the heck! a'll give it 5!
Just brought this knife on a 60 mile backpacking trip and it worked out great for me the whole time!
Great knife from Gerber
Very reliable.
