Bear Grylls Compact Fixed Blade

this knife is cool and very strong came RAZOR sharp out of the box, the other reviews that say the knife broke their must be some thing rong because the blade is very thick but the sheath is not the best but its good enought.

This knife is simply amazing. Has a nice solid feel in your hand and is very well balanced. Carry and use it everyday for everything. Only downside is the sheath can sometimes drop the knife when it's in the inverted position, especially when you might need to run or jump.

try no to buy these they suck! bought three all broke the same day used one for an attempted baton it broke and the blade is still there another rusted away when it came it snapped while i was whittling with it and the third didn't really break but fell out of the sheath and i lost it ! so ill never buy another bg item.

I've owned many knives in my lifetime and I'm both happy and sad to say that so far the Gerber line of knives have surpassed the Cold Steel Knives. For several reasons I have switched knife makers. For one thing all the Gerbers whether its BG design or not fits very comfortably in my hands. The majority of them are light enough for everyday carry. The company actually LISTENS to your complaints or compliments and will act upon them. For me I have yet to have ANY Gerber fail on me and that goes multiple for my students.

Now onto this knife. I am very impressed. Yes the sheath needs more work but overall it works. Plain and simple. While teaching a snow class I found it very easy to light a fire with it, skin a rabbit with it, cut wood with it, assist in making a shelter with it, assist in making a fishing trap and so on. All the while it still held its edge AND IT DIDN'T RUST. Although I do keep all my bladed oiled with mineral oil. But that should be a given. If you don't oil your blade then it's your fault for the rust. Not Gerber.

My final thoughts are this. The Compact BG knife is an excellent everyday carry as it now has replaced a 19 year old Gerber folding knife (which is now hung up for display in my house). It's easy to reverse the belt clip and to insert into the front pocket without it moving around. It's there when you need it and yes for the money it's worth it. It's a no BS BG knife and in many ways very similar to the Gerber Myth if you don't want to go orange and to have a straight edge. It is those reasons why I will always trust and use Gerber knives.

i got it on my 13th birthday that was a couple days ago my dad bought it for fishing/camping lost it on the first day due to the cheap clip after i put it back from skinnig a fish.my brother has one but it broke on half when he went hunting with a friend they tried to skin the elk with it and it broke on half.
don't get it the ultimate knife is awesome had it for a year and a half and it still works great not the 1st time a gerber tool broke so yeah

used it to clean a deer an it brok in half

I was cleaning a 220 pound antelope and the stinkin knife snapped in half. It got rusty before it even got to my house in the mail.. This is the WORST company ever!!!!!!

Great bear bones knife! Full tang, and you know it when you use it! Very solid, well built feel. The only "cons" are the sheath and serrations. The sheath feels a bit too fragile, if it were put in any potentially testing situation. The serrations aren't quite as aggressive as I'd like on a "survival" oriented blade. Both of those "cons" are when I start getting really picky on the knife though. All things considered, best knife under $50 by a long shot.

My wife ordered one fro me through Amazon for Christmas. I'm having to send it back though because two of the serrations were broken/chipped. Also, it's a little small for my hands. I recommend hold one if at all possible. I'm about 6'1, so my hands aren't terribly big. However, it's just to skinny.

OK I got this knife for Christmas And it was super sharp very comfortable and just flat out AMAZING! And i even liked the sheath! But a couple of weeks later I noticed the sheath broke all the serrations i was devastated and contacted Gerber about the warranty and am hoping that Gerber might send me a new one. If they do I am most certainly going to buy more knives from Gerber if not count me out!

I got this Blade for Christmas, and i was so excited to start using it. It sharpen's well and came razor sharp. But the sheath seem's to have damaged one of my serrations(if u dont put the knife in correctly) so i was not so happy about that. But other than th sheath its a good knife. (i use it every day) But im a little worried about its edge holding abilities, because my brother got the same knife but we cant seem to get it sharp at all. (i can easily sharpen all my knives to hair poping sharpness with my dimond stone's) but i hope mine will never have that problem.

I was given this knife as a Christmas gift. Unfortunately, the handle is just too small for my hands. I'm about 6'1 and wouldn't say I have big hands but it's too small. Need more to hold on to. Also, one of the serrated teeth was chipped off. Sending it back and looking at the Prodigy.

The sheath's clip falls off and is pretty much useless. I sharpened the blade and chunks of the blade just chipped off whilst sharpening.. I'll be getting the field sharpener to see if I can't fix it up and if it isn't just my fault.
The sheath is my biggest complaint after all...

The knife itself is amazing, Its sharp holds a nice edge and the serrated part of the blade is nice however the sheath is absolutely horrible. The Knife is constantly falling out. I like the blade do to its small size and light weight so I flipped the belt clip around and wrapped 550 chord around the clip and the whole sheath. I then took the chord and made it into a neckless. Works well if your able to deal with not having your knife on our hip.

It was my birthday and I found this knife at an abandoned house, the sheath was on the ground and the knife was upstairs. The blade had a little nick in it. it was kinda sharp but it cut through wood surprisingly easy. i just sharpened it with a little handheld sharpener and it is really sharp now, i think it was worth the money that i didn't pay for it.

I love the edge on this knife! I've carried knives since I was 6 years old, I'm 24 now! I've paid anywhere from $1-$80 for a descent knife! Ive used Kershaw, SOG, Buck and lots of others! You can't beat it for the price! Razor sharp and great size!

this is a perfectly good knife on its own but the freakin clip is terrible. seriously this is like one of my favorite knives out of my collection but the sheath just makes it terrible

First off, I love this knife. I carry it with me at work, home, college, everywhere.

I've used it to cut anything from an apple to using the back end to break a piece of glass without any problems.

My one complaint is the clip on the sheath, however, I understand that it is removable to accommodate different ways to carry it.

Now, if you don't want a serrated blade, you are looking in the wrong place. This is a survival knife and a serrated blade is necessary cut slippery materials. Also, have fun trying to cut through rope with a fine edge. This is for survival, not sport hunting.

I am 14 years old and i saved up my own money to buy this knife so i could have one like my Dad's. But while small gaming i lost it off the cheap little clip that connects on the case. This was not the first time it fell off but, it was the last. Not sure if i'll buy a Gerber again, but if you get one of these i recemend putting in super glue to stop it from falling of the clip.I've heard Gerber was reliable, but i have yet to see it.

I use mine at my desk to cut pickles from jars that I buy in bulk from cosco.

Nice small knife, good feel. Worst sheath I have ever seen, Hard to get the knife in or out (scratches up blade) and the belt clip is horrible.

i absolutley love the looks of this knife. although, im more of a bare bones kinda guy so im waiting on the paracord fixed blade, which looks the exact same. as a knife fighter and outdoorsman, id love to get my hands on this blade. it has all the qualities i look for in a single edge knife. no if only it had a variant with an edge on the back...one can only hope!

I give this knife a great recommendation. Keeps a excellent edge, the serrations are still in the best shape as they were when I bought it. To the ones who have broke or whittled away the serrations, most likely you were using it on something you should'nt have been. I've cut everything from 3" river lines to bones with it, and it hasn't failed me yet. Love the reversible clip. I really favor a knife that can be drawn from a downward angle instead of up. This knife will accompany me throughout all my adventures, from the open waters to deep into the wilderness that I call my second home. Thank you Gerber.

This is definitely the best purchase I've made in a while, I take it everywhere I go. Best part is that its not too big to carry in CO.

The knife itself is really great. The sheath, well not so much. I am going to have to have a custome one made as the plastic one does not hold onto the knife to well.

I absolutely love this knife, the full tang construction is just great. It was sharp enough to shave my arm hair out of the package. I actually like the sheath unlike some others on here, Tuff, Sturdy, outright lovely design.

Lost my knife on the first day out in the woods - it fell out of the plastic belt clip. Great knife - I cut two pieces of gas line and opened a package with it!

I think if this knife was like the prodigy to the LMF II it would be the second best survival knife in the world (2nd to the Prodigy)!

The BG ultimate fixed would be good if it was made in the US and had a better steel. NOW Gerber has made probably the second best survival knife (in my book). I think the best thing about this knife is the full tang construction. He blade shape is the same as the instant (accept the back) and sheath SUCKS!!!

If this knife was the exact same as the BG ultimate only smaller I would give it a 10 out of 10. And I'm a big fan of Gerber so I think most of their knives are at least 9 1/2 out of 10!

In my opinion, this is the best knife in the BG series. It kind of has the feel of a primitive knife(which I love). Here's a tip: use bicycle tire tube (AKA Ranger band) to cover the handle, and also use a strip to attach a ferro rod to the sheath. You end up with a really tough knife that feels like a cloud in your hand. I also fashioned a rubber loop that keeps it in the sheath while upside down. Works wonders. Also, if you Ranger band the orange clip in the sheath, it won't come out of the set. This may seem like a lot to do, but trust me, when a knife foundation is this good, you work around the quirks. Besides, I customize all of the knives I buy.

Excellent knife. Well balance knife with an incredible design. But the clip in the sheath is not strong enough to hold knife upside down when under impact. Such a same, great knife with crappy sheath. If Gerber were make a hybrid between this knife the Gaurdian back-up.....

I received this knife as a gift. I don't usually carry a fixed blade knife, but I'm really impressed with this one and planning to carry it when camping. The quality seems to be top notch. The ergonomics are perfect for my hand, and the blade is very sharp. I like the sheath ok, but the clip detaches itself when putting the knife in on my belt. It needs something to lock the clip. My knife has a different part number of 31-001067N which I can't find any info for. It seems to be exactly the same as 31-001066 but I'm not positive. I would love to know the difference.

this knife is a good knife to have. very sharp, easy to ues nice to have for camping or hunting. but the sheath does not hold the blade good enough. the knife wants to fall out at every bump. but beside that it is going with me on every camping trip.

Very good knife, very sharp, good handle, overall good size. The weakness is in the sheath. It just won't stay on. Not a fan of serration but you may be.

I was given this, wouldn't have bought it myself, but I'm surprised by it. Blade geometry is a little unconventional, but it works well. I like the steel impact pad on the butt, but it doesn't feel like it the actual tang- full tang would be better. People have had nonserrated knives for thousands of years- they aren't as critical as everyone thinks and as short as this blade is they are hindrance, not a help. And the sheath is... special, nothing to like there. Glad I know how to form kydex.

The 1/3 serration near the handle are just right for various cutting needs. This knife has just the right balance of straight edge to serrated. Good work!

Really like the knife. nice size and love the shape of the blade a lot like the Bayley tip it comes down from the top and doesn't have that big curve up to the point. Sheath is ok but would like a way to carry horizontal. I have over 50 knives and this is one of my favorite. Thanks for another great knife.

The blade is excellent. Serrations are best when getting out of binds ......especially with rope , cord, or leather straps (i.e. saddle tack). The weight and balance of the knife are very ergonomic; as is the handle. The sheath needs some work to keep the clip fastened on a waist belt or your gear...... so as not to lose such an impressive knife!

Over all a nice knife. I am not a fan of serrations in general and that is why I did not buy the B.G. Ultimate Survival until the release of the fine edge version. The compact is very well made. the sheath is ok but the clip could be better.

This knife is serrated to survive its not a hobby knife if u want a hobby knife go buy from essential or outdoor and hunting even industrial has great fine edge blade but this is a survival knife... If u want a big orange BG on the side buy the ultimate fine edge or ultra compact fixed blade... Btw should I purchase this, would anyone recommend paracord wrapping the handle based on size? Or should I get the gerber basic and wrap it?

Its a survival blade not a hobby blade so if u can't deal with serrations than don't buy it gerber has wonderful HOBBY knives if you want a fine edge with a big orange BG on it get the ultimate fine edge or ultra compact fixed blade but buy from outdoors hunting essential or industrial and stop complaining about serrations

Ok, now here is a knife that in all essence of the word is an ultimate surviver. The serration is a key element, you have to think about the audience this knife was made for and where this knife is designed to be at home. Plus, if bear grills sees it fit to have the blade the way it is, we best not argue, show me a man that knows better than he what is good in a survival knife. The blade is smaller making it easily controlled and the point is close to your hand, opposite to the other bigger bg ultimate srvl knife. This is not a throwing knife. It is not a box cutting knife. If its a little heavy on the handle side, who cares? why are you throwing it anyway? its not meant for that. If your serration are breaking or the tip is breaking, your using it wrong. This knife is easily consealed and easy to find a spot in any outfit. I agree the alloy could be a little higher in quality, but then again, i probably would not own it if it cost $200. If you need a knife, fixed, this size, this price, then look no further. If you want a fine blade, or a throwing knife, or a folder, or a slower sheath, dont buy it but also dont complain if you do, people who buy knives and just hate all the features are clearly not understanding the market. Thankyou Gerber keep this up!!

I purchased my knive at Walmart. I found it to be a very well constructed knife. The sheath clip was found wanting until I lost it. Now I can find it. Wonder if the sell them separate.

This knife fills a niche that is surprisingly empty. A fixed-blade knife the size of a folding pocket knife. Very nice fit and grip. Thick, robust blade. Functional serrations. Can't go wrong with this item. Thanks, Gerber for giving this to us!!!

I have to say, the knife itself is really nice. But more about the sheath that is annoying me! the sheath is just not good enough. The lock on the sheath for the knife was not a good design. Once I put in the knife into the sheath, it would easily slip right out when I shake it a bit. Gerber blades are quite nice, but the sheaths needs catching up.

I have bought this knife because I have heard many good things about it and at Dick's Sporting Goods, the knife was suggested so I bought it! The knife is durable and I have not had a problem with it! The blade holds its edge for a while. I have banged it against rocks and concrete and haven't had to sharpen it yet! The sheath could be a little better because I have found the knife to be falling out of the sheath every once in a while. Although this happens, I am happily giving it five stars due to the durability of the knife and the blade!

I love this knife! Great feel, Great weight, and the heavy grip feels fine to me, the blade is still heavy too! I have to keep pulling this thing out just to hold it lol. My only gripes are about the sheath, looks cool but the clip is cheap, and the lock-in-sheath mechanism tends to scratch the finish on the blade! GRR!!! Other than that this knife first to all but the Ultimate Knife by Bear Grylls

I bought this knife a couple weeks ago and ive only needed to use it once. It makes a great throwing knife. only bad thing is the p o s sheath. The knife fell out when i bumped against the wall, luckily it didnt break. what i ended up doing was made my own urban sheath, if you go to youtube you can watch videos on how to make em. overall i give it a 4 bc of the sheath

A plain edge wld b nice if it wasnt for survival. The serations are crucial. In speed and a clean cut.. great job on this knife. The handle is slightly heavy compared to blade balance. But i agree. Very well built knife. Im very satisfied.

I bought this knife and i am very pleased. Keeps a good edge. For the size and weight ratio very nice. The handle is a lil heavy. Easily comes out of balance. But this was def worth buying. Its a good solid knife.

Love this knife. Great knife for the money! Great size that is easy to keep close at hand. Wish people would nicely SUGGEST a straight edge instead of complaining. Tired of seeing those who like the balde one way knocking those who like it a different way. Everyone has their preference. I like the serrated edge myself, but do think it would be great is they also made a straight edge version

you need serratations on a knife in the wild because a fine edge will not cut through wet slipery things. I mean, come on think about it thats what serratations are for. think about it

Great knife! but.. This is pretty much my dream knife. Right size, right shape, really sharp. This could be the perfect knife if it weren't for two things:

1. The metal is too soft. I literally broke the tip the first day I used it. (And I wasn't trying) and the blade dulled VERY quickly.
2. The sheath. It fits great and never falls off but it's so impractical. It has a huge plastic clip that makes it almost impossible to put anywhere handy. A leather or nylon sheath makes more sense.
Keep trying Gerber! I love your stuff!

I can't get over how natural the draw is on this knife! I love how it feels in the hand. Great sheath & release/retention mechanism. I am glad to have the serrations, since this knife is clearly made for rough use. The blade shape is perfect! I like the grind too

The clip is a bit too loose on the sheath, but I have an easy, unobtrusive solution (see tip below).

I wish I had reason to carry a fixed-blade; I love just having this knife close at-hand. It's sharp & tough, and not as intimidating/out-of-place in EDC as the excellent LMF II.

Tip: To fix the loose sheath clip, wrap a thin piece of black wire behind it, sliding the wire between the clip & the sheath and twisting it at the bottom and wedging it behind the tip of the clip. This tightens it up & eliminates the chance of it accidentally disengaging from the sheath.

How about a black copy without the Grylls name or serations.

I just don't understand why Gerber is not getting it...
We want a fine edge option on all the knives.
Serrations always get in the way ,are easily broken and are hard to sharpen.
Come on Gerber, lots of people are wanting this and its a win-win situation.

I've ofton found small compact knives to be more useful than big ones, so this is a welcome. I'd prefer a fine edge, and hopefully if enough people complain Gerber will make one. Also I'd like the sheath to be given a diamond sharpener and make an even smaller one to be hung from the neck.

Please please, an option with no serations . also an option to carry the sheat horizontaly. thank you!

I bought this knife more out of curitousity than anything else. I thought it might be a handy kind of knife to have around. What I got was a awesome little knife that I can use instead of the survival knife, which is a little to big to carry all the time. I carry this knife on my backpack and easy to pull out of it's plasitc sheath. The knife is just and strong and durable as the ultimate survival knife. I have this knife with me when ever I go out, even if I don't take my backpack. I higly recommend this knife to all backpackers and campers. It is a very usefu knife and dependable

I have also had the previous fixed blade BG Knifes and feel this one is more user friendly and nicely weighted for its size. I hope for a straight edge in this model in the future as well.

The handle is very comfortable and I was impressed with the quality of the actual knife, thinking it was just going to be some market ploy to slap a well known name on a piece of junk. My only problem is with the sheath. It's nice and all, but there's a groove on the inside that the blade goes into and sometimes the blade doesn't slide right into it and gets hung up and leaves wear marks on the blade.

ok, so im a 14 year old girl and i just got this knife in the mail , and i am pleased to say, I absolutely love it! its very sharp, very durable, has a good grip, and it fits me! i usualy have a hard time finding good knifes but not now. one thing that dissapoints me though is the sheath. i will be making a custom sheath that fits my expectations. thanks Bear Grylls and Gerber! this knife is amazing!

serrations are useful but not in a knife of this size. make a fine edge version and it will sell out. also the belt clip is not a good idea, get rid of it and put a sharpener there instead.

I've been waiting for this knife my whole life. Perfect size, perfect color, perfect.. All of it. I'll be making a custom sheath for it. This one is lacking. I'm not sure how to use it for every day carry. Other than that, thanks Gerber and Bear Grylls for making just what I need (and want) at a price I can handle.

I just got this knife in the mail and i can say i'm not disappointed. I havn't tested it yet but it feels very rigid and tough. My only complaint is the reversible clip, it feels less than secure.

Serrations are necessary in a survival knife for cutting rope and/or vine. Which is very difficult with a fine edge knife. I love this knife and all the other Bear Grylls knives.

Remember its a survival knife it should have serrations so stop slating it. Its very good btw!!!!!

Just bought this knife from bass pro and I already love it. Haven't used it yet but can instantly tell when I held it in my hands that it felt like a solid workhorse for its size, also looks like it would make for a very good dive or watersports knife. the serrations would be useful if they didn't bent over by sawing hardwood like oak..... now i have a $40 knife with serrations that are bent.... the serrations are alot stronger on any of the other bg knife this one failed my field test horribly.. guess i have another beater

I just got this knife..great little knife..the sheath is pretty solid keeps the knife safe..also like the removable clip..the knife its self is awesome i dont mind the serrations...it still has a lot of straight edge for your cutting task

What serrations take away from a knife is that most of the time, they just get in the way. A fine edge is much smother cutting action. The serrations are to short to be of any use. Serrations are intended to be used to saw through materiel. However, I think that this is a great knife. Just wanted to put that in as my opinion.

i like this knife.their are two things i would like for the knife to come with,a ferro rod,and that the blade would be at least 2 inches longr so it is more like a survival knife

very good knife and great style sheath with it.i think the serrations are great for cutting a lot of materials but serration do take up a lot of the blade and some people may have no use for them so its a waste on the blade, they should make another version of all of the bear grylls series knives with fine edges like the ultimate knife.

Look guys serrations are excellent and they make a knife more useful and all around better. the stay sharper longer and are just a good thing to have on a knife.

Totally disagree with most of these reviews... the serration's take nothing away from the knife (except maybe aesthetics) and add a whole useful element. If you live off the wild - you welcome this feature...

I like this knife how it is the only thing i would change is that iwould either make it foldable and have a sheath like the folding sheath knife or i would put it in the same sheath as the ultimate knife, also the blade is a little small.

Please make this knife with a full plain edge, I promise you that this will sell a LOT more.

please do it with out seration...it is a nicer knife than the ultimate surv knife...great master piece...except the seration...why dont gerber ever learn from mistakes? why do whe have to pray for you to make 2 options? with an without?

i just recieved my 'exclusive tactical' fixed blade. looks a lot like(but is a little different) the knife you see above. but it is a bear grylls/gerber product and on first inspection it looks nifty. go to 'cabelas' as they are the exclusive sellers of this gerber product. like i say..the blade is very much like the above knife..but with subtle differences. compare them..but i very much like mine.

please make a fine edge and a non-bear grylls design and I will buy.

This would be a grea tknife for scouts because we need something under 4".
I would like to see a fixed blade scout knife with the same sheath as the ultimate survival knife but under 4" and dosent burn a hole in your pocket.

You can go to rocky mountain knife works and buy it there and it is on their website. Great knife though, I also have the ultimate knife, works great!!!!!!!, I highly recommend it.Man it is amazing, never puts you down.

i think this knife is a very good idea because of the shape of the blade as well as the size of the knife, but the serrations should go because they can get damaged really easy in the field, and please get it in stock soon.

Looks amazing! Serrations are great for suvial, you guys are under the suvial category !! Plus its fine edge plus serrated...If you want a full fine edge look at the rest of gerber!

I love your bear grylls line, but along with 99% of everyone else I find combo edges to be the biggest pain in the a** ever! Just forget about the serations, and stick to fine edge blades.

serrations are good for when you are in the wild cutting through vines rope and wood so the serrations make it a good SURVIVAL knife because you survive in the WILD. Get with it people.
