Everything is okay i like it except the zip bag, it's its very solid and because of its rigidity it tears at the opening on all bag appeares little holes. I fixed mine with duct tape and another zip bag. -D
its very good but caind of expensive
This survival kit needs a upgrade. There are some cheap gear in this kit, like the flashlight it came with sucks. The big thing is that it's not waterproof, I recommend replacing this flashlight with the Bear Grylls Micro Torch. What this kit needs is a hefty survival knife like the Bear Gryls Compact Scout Knife and it needs a button compass. You can see that this not the best survival kit in the world but it would maybe come in handy once you replace and add some stuff to it.
Gerber is a company out to make money. They do not care about their customers. Sure they have "warrantys" where sometimes if you beg really hard they may honor them. However they sell this kit as a survival kit and you would think you should be able to count on it right? Wrong. Again its all about money for them, not about lives they put at risk because the product they sell is more or less worthless. The snare wire? Laughable but thats ok because most people will never know how to snare. Even if you do know how to snare, you have to set dozens in the hope of getting a meal. The "saw'? Will break two strokes into your work if you go after anything bigger than 2 inches and 2 inches you can break anyway without a saw. Build your own kit if you really want a survival kit. Something to consider...how many people actually walk around with a kit anyway? It means youll still likely never have one when you need it.
This is a terrible kit everything is really small and it is very cheap the snare wire is way to small and not big enough to do anything with also the flint and steel is very hard to use
Granted, this kit has some major flaws, but that is a given. A kit is only perfect when it suits your needs through trial and error, but also through upgrade. Just take out pieces you don't need and replace with better ones, and be sure to find use for the unwanted, like barter or different use.
seems like there is one thing missing in this kit a compass
This s the worst kit I have ever used. I took this with me on a Military survival course in northern Alberta.
everything in this kit it cheaply made and either broke of didn't work well.
examples include the zipper breaking, not enough snare wire for even one snare. flash light died first day etc.
the one good thing in this kit is the aircraft signals panel, which i cut off and kept.
Love this kit but it could use a better knive but overall this kit could save your life.
Got this for my grandson! It is a great starter kit! This kit has everything in it to help him get started but with serious stuff in it to get him through tough times.
great kit although a dvd explaining usage maybe helpful for others perhaps a list of helpful/harmful herbs
this kit is for survival not for camping it contains survival supplies
I find that the fire rod detaches too quickly and that the plastic bag tends to rip when taking it in and out. Reglue the metal match and replace the bag with a tin and it should work fine. Include water tablets as well.
I love this kit, but it was missing some crucial components: water purification, compass, candles, and a better knife. I added all of these things very easily, and now i truly think that this kit could save me if i needed it to
this kit is awsome but it just needs a better knife
I but this in my camel bag back pack i go deep woods ridding like to people for 7 hours its great i think of it as an insurance policy
the ultimate kit fire starter mine does not work at all but the rest i do like and does work the knife is the sharpest knife i have in my house! but the plastic is torn in it when i bought it also but i still like it
i think the kit would be much better if you put the para frame knife in the ultimate survival kit
because he multi tool is small and hard to use
Most of the stuff is handy but it should be a water proof bag or have something to disinfect water if not you wont last dong on basic knowledge.
It needs some:
Medical supplies
Water( purifing tabs,container )
Directions(compass)
Overall great kit !! Good job
It needs a compass, otherwise it seems incomplete so I probably only give it 2.5 stars.
this kit is amazing i really like the flint
Tools - keep the wire saw, ditch the multitool, replace with a skeleton knife usable for batoning.
Fire - ok;
Shelter - conditional ok;
Signaling - ok;
Water - no container, no purification - FAIL ur dead in average 3 days. Ditch the nylon bag, replace with a titanium container + durable rubber bladder + iodine tabs;
Cordage - ok;
Food - ok.
same
The firelighter does not work very well a big disappointment
the kit has plenty of space to add and take bits away so put your own compass in it or anytihng elce u might need :)
This kit is great, if it had a compass I would give it a five but for now four is all I can say .
i got this to put in my rusksack(LC2ALICE)for survival,IT IS AWESOME
Hit to you people, Learn to use the environment as he say's. Don't just get use to your gear learn to use nature to your advantage =), this is a good important notice to surviving.
you Forgot something people, the reason he didn't put a compass in there is because if you are a proper Explorer, you wouldn't need a compass, you can just use the sunlight and your shadow. pretty easy once you get the hand of it
It is not the ultimate survival kit because it does not include:
A knife
A first aid kit
A water purifier or purification tablets
A compass
As well as other survival items that are small but make a difference when it comes to getting of of the wilderness alive.Though a lot of the items in the kit are very useful and I am a big fan of Bear Grylls I am a little concerned about malfunctions that might occur in a real predicament.
i got this kit to stuff in my pack for when i go camping, hiking, etc. love it
This kit helped me survive. when i was stranded in dense tropical forests in madagascar, but compass is missing in the set . this kit has probably saved my life, kept me alive until help arrived thank you
perfect for mountains desert and especially jungles the wax perfect as a early warning system at night a good snare wire that was no scent 8 waterproof matches a fishing kit a little multitool light thats powerful at night and comes with the battery in it paracord signalling mirrors the lot even a blanket thats waterproof and folds easy every one get this kit it has every thing to survive well done bear grylls and gerber
Good kit. Needs a compass. But like any survival kit, it's only a start for what you need. Taylor your kit to your adventure before you go.
its pretty good its missing some key components compass can opener bandaids bigger knife better light more tinder
this is an awesome kit, it pretty much everything u need to survive.the key item it is missing a compass. other wise this is an epic kit
this kit is ok i could use some of the things in it but its way to expencive. i made a mini kit with a altoids tin and its just as good as this also it cost me 20 bucks so im probobly not going to get it.
it is not an ultimate survival kit as it is missing a major component of survival... A COMPASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have the big kit and I added a few of my own touches title says it all and its Gerber for gods sakes top of the line
This is a ok kit, and i have the basic but customize it to contain more items. Which is a good choice so you dont have to shell out 50...
but you can also just make your own using the little water proof plastic containers with the lanyard, similar to the ones that they sell at waterparks, and make your own custom one.
However, just go basic kit and just add a couple of fish hooks and string from your fishing rod, get a mirror, button compass, and more cotton balls for an upgrade under 5 bucks
This kit has many of the essentials that are required to survive for an extended period time in the wilderness
Good! it contains a lot of things to survive in the wild.
So expensive for Bears kit. You could make your own for half the price. For sombody who's been in the forces you would think he wouldn't be trying to take our money. I have a better survival tin than this and I paid 20 dollars 16 pounds. Also wheres the compass
As others have probably mentioned, there is a serrated blade advertised on the packaging as being part of the Clutch multitool -- there is no such blade.
All this stuff and not one basic compass. Come on bear. At least we have your name everywhere for to make us feel secure.
i am getting this for my birthday it is in september `cant wait the best things in this kit would be multi tool, flint, bag, blanket, and fishing kit all of the rest is crappy so i might just get the basic but i am also getting the ultamate knife that is good.!!!!!!!
Gerber should must improve the quality of Torch and Multi Tool.
I was stuck in a valley once I found a small la,e to collect water so I got my 'waterproof' bag out to collect and purify my water but it just leaked out
Useless
it could use real paracord a button compass and its be perfect!
i would just recommend this as a collection pieace
This is a great kit! extremely reccomend it to any people who are hikers. I got it 2 days ago and i have used the flint and it worked great.
this kit is really good to have epsecialy if your an out doors men. it is very compact and light fits perfect in pockets and is water proof. thanks gerber and bear grylls
Buy the basic kit as it has lots of room to add your own stuff and you'll save HEAPS
Trust me
super awesome kit buy it
It is a good Kit,I like it.. Unfortunately the little light did not work,so I opened it and got it going although it would not switch off. Tried fixing it but then it would not work. I would have preffered if the Bag was Green and without that garish writing saying it is a Survival Bag. It should be more Discreet and low key. I would have liked Belt Loops so it stays attached to your waist at all times just in case God forbid you drop your Rucksack down a Ravine, at least you will have your survival bag . I suppose a few Antiseptic wipes and some Plasters and a Bandage might be very handy.
Apart from these niggles it is a very good kit and the inner bag could be used for carrying Water or Distilling Water overnight in the dew in an emergency. I like the Firesteel and the extra little Whistle on the Lanyard.
I will probably put Belt Loops on the Bag,I think this is very important. At the time I nearly bought a Gerber Knife but thought it too small and seen the survival bag and got it. instead.
How much does this cost? because im going to buy this or the scout one
This kit is awesome!!!i realy loved it and i strongly recomend it
Bought one of these to go into my Camelback daypack. It's a worthwhile upgrade to the basic kit, with additional options for shelter, food, repairs, etc. Good, light-weight stuff to take along for planned use, as well as unplanned survival needs. I added an MRE heater pouch (minus the heater card) for a water bag and a couple of water purificaton tablets. Good stuff in this kit, pretty well thought out.
If anything else is absolutely necessary, you guys can just put it in there. I had some iodine tablets and put them in a baggie, put it with my kit, and boom, problem solved. This is hands down one of the most convenient and useful kits out there, whether you're in dire need of help, or are just pretending to be Bear.
Nice work, Bear & Gerber.
Nice kit but I would rather just take my original LMF
As far as the compass goes ,right hand point at the sun in the morning east left hand west bringing up the rear is the south Come people you can do it your looking to the _ _ _ _ _ .Gerber good Job.
BEST KIT EVER I AM THE BIGGEST BEAR GRYLLS FAN EVER
Yea could use a compass but really you can use your watch as one. Look it up. And as for water purification... boil the water!! If you really need to survive that's all you have to do, but the rest is for comfort. I see this pack as being easier than what you would have to do without it but just about anyone can live with just a good knife, hatchet, and being well dressed. Nature provides all you need but we're just too lazy to make stuff these days. If you're hungry you can make a trap by chopping wood, you can make a fire starter out of wood.. yea it's harder but still. This kit is better than nothing!
I like both kits, mainly I also think iodine tablets are a must in these kits. If for some reason u can't boil your water. Then the tabs are the way to go. I'm very impressed with this whole line of Gerber.
A true survivor can read the land and sky for direction.
i think tahat this kit is very useful but i agree with Alex lose the light and add a compas
It is really epic i love it it is so compact and the fire steel is the best :) :D
The kit is fairly complete. I would have added water purification tablets and a button compass.
IT IS THE BEST SUVIVAL KIT IS GREAT MY FAVORITE PART IS THE FLINT AND STEEL IT WORKS LIKE MAGIC ONE STRIKE IT WORKED
This is a neat little pack, most of the items are nice. The whistle is not needed because the one on the zipper is better, and the mini flashlight SUCKS. The one with my kit came with a gnarled up screw that just fell out after opening it and ive never seen it work, no matter what I do. As Bear would say, the weight isnt worth, well, anything for this item. The fish hooks are decent enough to survive, and most other items are great, I LOVE the multi tool. Ill be ditching the light for a compass, and ive tied the lame whistle to the ferro rod (why not, help ive burned myself! haha). Bear and Gerber, lose the light (we can make a torch) and add a compass. Thanks
Perfect kit for good price. Only thing i'm missin' is compass. However you can found poles by using informations in priorities of survival, included in kit. In spite of you are sometimes missin' some things, it doesnt change final feeling of this kit. I totally recommend to buy this kit.
Where's the F'ing compass? Me and my boys took this thing out camping and got lost after spearing shit and drinking in the woods for only like 6 hrs. BEAR!! I thought you had my back bro.
Hands down is a pretty well equipped kit, however, most of these tools can be purchased separately in bulk and comparatively at a lower price.
BUT nonetheless you pay for the convenience I assume.
Im thinking of buying it but i need some realy good reviews to bump up my confidence for buying it
Gorgeous kit mannn :)
it needs a boiling vessel like on the show what would be even better is the light bag to hold the gear can be hung over the fire to boil stuff
My favorite are the people that buy the kit and don't know how to use anything.
i got this kit a few weeks ago, i went camping with this and i caught a fish with the stuff provided. GREAT kit has everything. nuff said
Hi, I have bought the ultimate survival kit, is there a video which shows the usage of all the items in this kit, it would be great
Snared a rabbit. Skinned it. Cut fire wood. Started a fire. Yum yum. What a kit.......
The only possible flaw with this kit is that it doesn't include a compass. Other than that this is the best kit I've seen for an affordable price.
Good job putting together a decent kit for a decent price! Try getting all these items separately and see what I'm talking about.
My wife likes the small one but I think this is better, big is always better!!!
Container for liquid would make it perfect
Better drink my own piss.
Great kit, I keep one in each of my vehicles, and my emergency kit. I have not had to use them, but I know from all my gerber products I own it will serve me well when needed.
