Bear Grylls Tinderbox

Surviving the unexpected is about being prepared, and the Bear Grylls Tinderbox exceeds the standard. Few people know more about survival than Bear Grylls, ex-British Special Forces officer, experienced mountaineer and respected survival trainer. Taking advantage of Gerber’s decades of experience and Bear Grylls’ adventure knowledge, the Tinderbox design gives its user access to immediate fire starting ability while in very limited circumstances.

INNOVATION FOR ULTIMATE SAFETY
With a high grip rubber exterior and oblong shape for easy maintenance in the palm, the Bear Grylls Tinderbox, at 3 nimble ounces, is capable of initiating fire in even the most difficult scenarios. This revolutionary tool possesses a grater-like steel cutting surface that creates a fine tinder when applied to wood. The Tinderbox works as well with wet wood as with dry, because the grating surface simply shaves off the wet outer layers to expose the dry interior. After shaving wood into the Tinderbox, the cutter opens to allow easy removal of the tinder that’s been created. At the point of prepping to build a fire, empty the dry tinder contents of the Tinderbox onto the desired surface of collected items to be burned. Do NOT start a fire in the Tinderbox. Place the plastic cover over the cutting surface when not in use to provide protection in a pocket or gear bag.

VITAL INFORMATION PLUS EMERGENCY SIGNALING
The Tinderbox’s attached magnifying glass can be used for a spark to ignite the gathered tinder if matches are wet, or worse, unavailable. An emergency signaling mirror is located on the bottom of the Tinderbox, because even getting a fire started doesn’t equate to finding an escape route. The Bear Grylls Priorities of Survival Pocket Guide is included with this tool, furthering its usefulness and potential life-saving utility.

Not to rain on the parade of the other comments, but this tool is a gimmick, if you have a knife, then vola! you can make wood shavings, and save all that weight in the process! as for the magnifying glass, it is not as useful as other comments and the video have made it to be (you should have something more reliable than a magnifying glass). save the weight fellas, and leave this at home.

3 color camouflage Nathan Schneckenberger - MAR 22, 2015

Can you make all of this survival stuff in a darker color like woodland camouflage or Olive drab or green i LOVE THE ONE I HAVE I;d just like to see this Bear Grylls survival gear in any color but Orange.more stealthy colors it would be better for bug out bags the tactical community and soldiers in the field,

3 Great Survival Tool Gavin - AUG 24, 2014

I have had the Tinderbox for about 2 1/2 months now and I have found it very useful. I love the the thought and design, but I did have one problem. About 25% of the shavings aren't making it into the box. I think it is because of the way the cheese grader like tool is positioned. Although most of the shavings are making it in, I think it can be improved. Overall it is a great tool though!!!

4 great item. mitchel - JUN 27, 2014

the magnifying glass is a great plus, and the filed tinder will burn very well. unfortunately if the stick used for tinder is wet the tinder is useless. the cover would be best to have hinged on the case so it cant be lost and if it could be used as a char tin in some way that would be a great plus. or a fire rod attached to it would be great also. BEST OF LUCK FOR THE DAYS AHEAD...

5 lets talk price jason - JUN 7, 2014

i would love to have this tinder box it is a great design and nice look but the down side of the box is its price $30 is a lot of money for something the is made out of thin metal and plastic and it is most likely that you gerber make it for like $5 or maybe cheaper i don't know but you as gerber should add maybe a small knife or water proof matches or maybe some man made tinder or add the micro torch light or just drop the price. i have a lot of gerber knives, tools and gear and think all of the gerber knives, tools and gear are fairly priced but not the tinder box . i rated the box on its design and the great concept of it not the price.

5 Bear Grylls Tinderbox GETOUTSIDEANDPLAY - MAR 10, 2014

This tool does exactly what it claims. It makes firestarting a breeze and gets rid of the doubt about whether or not you can start a fire in a survival situation. The blade is very heavy-duty and does not ever get dull, but is also easy to clean after use. The magnifying glass is a great way to start fire if you don't have a ferrocerium rod etc., and the overall size as well of the mirror and comfort-ability in your hands makes this one of the most useful tools in the entire Bear Grylls line-up. A must have for all who spend time in the outdoors.
