it seems like the older version was smarter you had a compartment to hold tinder in and both pieces were attached so if something happened you wouldn't lose half of the tool. the older version also seems to have a bigger piece of flint. this is a good product but in my opinion you should make the next one more like the first one just better somehow
This compact fire starter works great and is much easier to stow away in a pocket than the previous model!
Gerber should make a Fire Piston for their 2015 Bear Grylls line-up. This compact ferrocerium rod fire starter looks very similar to a fire piston, so it wouldn't take a lot of design change to engineer one. It would make for an excellent new fire starter for their next collection. Or just make a Bear Grylls magnesium bar. Either one would be a great idea even if a ferrocerium rod is much easier to start a fire with. I would still buy either one! Just an idea!
Very nice and lightweight, has a great spark and is very easy to start a fire with. the aluminum sheath is very heavy duty and the smallness of it makes it very easy to pack. Overall 5/5 for performance, dependability, ergonomics and style.
i just got and have already started making big fires love it thx gerber
Like the fire starter don't like the price. :(
don't have it but i would love to get it
