The idea is simple: always be prepared. The Dime is a mini multi-tool with an impressive list of features, ensuring you are ready for anything. This butterfly open tool fits on your keychain yet has 12 useful tools. Available in multiple colors and a bladeless version as well.
We took the standard keychain multi-tool and made it better. In addition to stainless steel pliers, wire cutters, a fine edge blade, spring-loaded scissors, flathead screwdriver, crosshead driver, tweezers and file, the Dime includes a unique blade designed to safely cut and score plastic packaging and a bottle opener that is exposed even when the tool is closed. Compact and lightweight, the Dime is the most valuable change you'll find in your pocket.
Just purchased this tool off of Amazon. I wanted something very light weight for endurance ultra-light bike packing. It fits the bill. I do not intend to use it as an every day tool but as a emergency tool to complement my bike multi-tool. It is small. You are not going to get a bunch of leverage with the pliers or any tool on the piece. I like it for what I bought it for.
Totally disappointed in this tool. I have had it for a month. I have used the knife and tweezers with no issue but last night I attempted to use the pliers and one of the tangs snapped off at the pivot point. Will be seeking a free replacement for this.
Does what i need it to do and holds up to everyday tasks. I wish the pliers were a little thicker other than that its a great product.
I've used this tool for just about 6 months. Most of tools work well. I just had one of the locking arms fail for the pliers, I used this component most out of all the tools. I most likely will just use the Leatherman PS4 I have for small pliers.
*Knives are of decent quality, had no issues with keeping them sharp.
*Electricians knife is handy for so many things.
*Pliers are of decent quality, especially useful for manipulating small parts
*Scissor blades do not line up well enough to cut most materials and come loose.
*Locking mechanisms can break off during regular use, or while opening the tool.
*Screw drivers are made out of a soft metal, only use them if not much torque is required.
*Cutting portion of the pliers are too far apart to cut most small wires.
Great potential. I love having the screwdrivers, pliers and bottle opener in such a small and handy package. Two small issues can be easily fixed and make the tool more effective and easy to use.
Gerber: Give us a bigger divot around the nail nick of the package opening blade. This will make the tool much easier to deploy, as in changing it from almost useless to super handy. Easy fix, BIG improvement. Next, don't polish the tip of the small/philips screwdriver so much. It's somewhat rounded and less effective than if you leave it sharp and square.
one of the most disappointing tools I've ever bought! Wanted a small tool to replace my small swiss army knife. Boy was I WRONG! First used the plyers on a cheep big lots Christmas tree and bent my tool so it would not close and all other parts are cheep...I'll never buy another Gerber product...used to hold them in high regard but I will now spread the word!
Great utility tool that' I've had for years and give out as gifts. However, Gerber needs to drop the scissors and replace with a can opener.
Bought this a year ago and only used the bottle opener until Labor Day weekend backpacking trip. I debated between this and the leatherman. Looks like I will now be buying the weatherman. Anyway I tried to use the philips head screwdriver to drive a drywall screw into a 2x4 to hang my bag. The handle separated and the screwdriver folded backwards and rendered it useless. Upon closer inspection the head of the screwdriver is twisted as well. Note this is only the second or third turn of the handle so the screw was not in that deep. Cheap Chinese quality as I should have expected and hence the reason I always buy American. Shame on me.
I have had this tool for 2 month. It does everything I need it to. They really stand behind their warranty,I broke it on the first day I had it and they sent me a new one in about two weeks later. Definitely will be buying more.
I had a small Gerber multi-tool for about three years and loved it. Worked great on Philmont Trek. Unfortunately, I lost it last summer. I bought the Dime because of the size and package blade. It has been a pretty good knife and I show it to the scouts as an example of a good knife multi-tool. Unfortunately at summer camp I was doing some light whittling and the support piece for the knife blade broke off. Now the blade is pretty worthless, since there is nothing to hold it from folding backward. I guess I will find out how well they stand behind their product. I knocked off two stars because it is not as durable as the previous small Gerber multi-tool I previously owned.
Weak scissors and one side of the pliers broke on first use (and took a chunk out of my hand as well)! I know this is a lightweight tool, but I expected more from a Gerber.
Disappointing Quality. Mini Leatherman are much better. Some good features but the plier and scissor are toys. First time I used plier one side broke off with very little pressure applied. Haven't found anything the scissors will cut yet. Other blades have been useful.
Loved this tool...very versatile. After a few months of ownership, was cutting-up boxes with knife blade and bar that prevents blade from opening too far bent. Tried to fix it, but broke the hex screw for the hinge when tightening. Construction and durability a concern.
Great tool. Kept in on my key chain for years, until TSA made me leave it at airport security. It's so small you forget it has a blade that you can't fly with. Luckily they make a travel version now that I think I'm going purchase!
bad steel Gerber!!! Charge us more for 154CM like on the gator series and you would have the best ever keychain multitool. The current steel is like ice that does not melt, it gets sharp, but then you cut something and you have to sharpen it again
I've always carried a pocket knife until I stumbled upon this little piece of engineering. Compact and light, it carries in your pocket as any pocket knife would. Handles light duty jobs well. I would have ditched the "retail package opener" for a serrated blade or saw. Also the scissors are difficult to sharpen since they only open to a fixed position. Still very pleased with it. I even picked one up for my brother given the good price point. I will be looking to Gerber for any multi tool, forget Leatherman.
Every day that I leave the house without this in my pocket, I regret it. It comes in handy in more ways than I can imagine, especially the pliers and the tweezers. My only complaint is that the bottle opener is a litle small, so it is hard to use, but it gets the job done. Also it is not extremely durable, mine broke when I put pressure sideways on the knife, but I was using it for the wrong job and I can't really blame the thing. Still ordering a replacement.
I love this little tool but after about 6 months of ownership, I somehow put too much pressure on the plier handles and bent the backing spring that secures on jaw of the pliers, rendering them useless. Minus one star for durability issues.
I bought this 4 months ago and it hasn't left my pocket since well except to use it. No excuse not to have a multi tool on you when it only weighs 2 ounces. If I ever lose it, I will buy a new one right away.
got it for my birthday then lost it at a boy scout meeting a year later, great knife , i love it , but my only complaint is that the metal scissors spring broke off after a year.
I couldn't tell you how much times this multi tool saved the day, from replacing mig pliers to pulling out ingrown toenails.
Pliers bent while using normally, would pay more for a slightly larger titanium version. Would like an actual Phillips sxrewdriver
I purchased the red version of the dime a few months ago & couldn't be happier with it! Much more well built than the Bear G. model (of similar style) it replaced. For some reason, every Mr. Bear G. model I have ever owned seemed to be substandard in quality & durability. I am just being honest, as I have stuck with Gerber knives for over 45 years & always considered them a cut above other blades (no pun intended). That being said, I could not recommend any of the Bear G products. As far as the standard Gerber blades & tools go, I have always used & recommended them to all my friends.
The same can be said of the Dime that I carry with me every day. It always seems to come in handy and, so far, has never let me down!
Great design, great quality, & reliable companion! As far as light duty multitools, the Dime comes highly recommended! And to top it off, how can you go wrong with a knife maker that offers a lifetime warranty? You can't!
i was fooling around with this knife and it slice my finger to the bone (my fault I was being careless knife is perfectly safe) and is still sharp enough to carve wood well
I got this tool for Christmas and I immediately fell in love with it. I don't think I've been without it for more than a day or two. Big thumbs up for putting that beer bottle opener on it. That was genius. And the tweezers were a nice touch too.
But today, I was using the pliers to crimp a small wire coupler, and the tensioner piece that holds the pliers locked open or closed, bent. Now the pliers don't work. And it's hard to open and close. I've contacted the warranty repair department, and will be sending it back for replacement.
I've never had to send a Gerber product back, so this is my big test to see what Gerber is really made of. I can understand a product breaking or not meeting mfg specs. It happens. What a company does to honor their word when one of their products fails or doesn't meet intended usage specs is really the true test for me.
I'll let you all know how it goes.
Surprisingly, the Dime is very good. Not just very good, but probably the best keychain multitool on the market. It's design is nice, its fit and finish is quite good, and its tool selection is the best ever for a keychain multitool.
So Gerber can still make good stuff.I really, really like the Gerber Dime.....
Decent tool - good value. File is worthless and scissors are of dubious value. With my old (lost) SAK, I could cut my nails with the scissors - not with the Gerber. Everything else is very good and build quality is great - except for the scissors.
When I lose or break this, I will probably upgrade to Lumberjack or whatever the name is - I just didn't want to spend $150 plus and don't need all of the functions on that tool at this time.
i love the tool and if you guys are like me and work on cars and get all that crap under your finger nails you can do what i do and use the package opener to get it all out besides that its a great tool
My mom got this for my brother and for christmas, my opens just fine and I use it everyday. Like others said, it can be stiff. My brother's was stiff and the scissors we're literally stuck in the thing. Its a VERY nice tool... just hope you don't get one thats stuck or stiff...
The package opener is stiff but not impossible to open with finger nail, I carry this with me everywhere in my change pocket & use it often, has been very handy on long hikes & camping trips. would buy again if it was in front of me.
Better than the small Swiss Army knife. I use the knife blade most. All blades are adequate... Yes, one is hard to open but I never use it anyway. Just got to remember that the size has its positive as well as negative points. Easy to carry in my pocket. Not too big or bulky. Not an overwhelming blade to use for self defense (ha ha). But usually adequate for most of your needs.
Excellent tool. I have the blackout version. Blades are a little stiff but not that you can't safely open them with a fingernail, with use they are getting smoother and easier to open. Scissors are great, package owner is nice and the tweezers are actually nice in a pinch. Bottle opener works well and is great to use to hook to a Key Chain or to run a piece of 550 cord through. The split ring for going on a key chain is weak and really useless. I'll be buying one for my wife and daughter.
Nicely made little tool, very compact and feature packed. The scissors are a bit hard to operate, but cut paper and cardboard nicely. The only negative I can find is the file is very blunt- it's shaped like a nail file but struggles to file even finger nails. My wife saw it and wants one for her hand bag.
Agree with previous reviews, the design is very stiff and difficult to open without an additional tool. Defeats the purpose of having a small multipurpose tool.
this is a nice knife but it i so hard to open the parts they ar very stiff. it was for my brother and he can not open it without a screw driver so mad at this knife. :-1
Nice size. Couldn't get package opener out unless I used my SAR. Very stiff. Blade nice size cut well. Scissors not sharp , had hard time trying to sharpen. Because of 2 unusable not practical devices returned to retailer.. If these were changed and made usable would have no problem re buying. I tend toward Gerber blades on a regular basis.
I but this knife at a price of $50.... but that doesnt matter the thing is that this knife is on eof the best I have ever used in my entire life. I love it its very sharp, strong, and looks well.I recomend to buy it.
i got this as a starter pocket tool and like it very much. i liked the knife at first as it was very sharp, i thought it was a nice blade...until i got the gerber LST:) the file is not really functional it barely files nails. i love the mini tweezers they are a good idea, could be better though. the pliers close really nicely also
the scissors are made well too.
over all it is a nice pocket tool...could do with some improvements though.
From this little 4 1/4 inch knife, you would never expect the level of quality. This little thing is great to carry around and use everyday! It is very well designed and I love it! All of the edges are razor sharp. I only hate the difficulty of getting the tools out, but all it needs is a little grease. This is a great key chain tool and for the price, it is a great find! Be prepared to get cut with that razor sharp blade if you are not careful! I have really enjoyed my Dime Green Key Chain knife and hope you do too!
The knife blade is razor-sharp, the pliers, scissors and package-opener work well, but the two file-faces are completely useless. They won't even file fingernails! They look like they've been made badly, with flat lands between the grooves, so no sharp edges at all and feel smooth to the touch. Supplier says they're all like this, so I'm disappointed - I think this is a manufacturing defect.
It has a sandpaper polish finish, so that means you intentionally avoid a better appearance. The movement parts are very stiff. The sharpness on blades are regular aproaching to bad. And If you are talking about these scissors can cut, I totally agree with you. Both, left and right-handed individuals can use it to cut paper, fabric, etc. but I do not mean that. my point is that the right-handed as I can not see the cutting line. The blades are reversed, and I can not get a clean cut. Other multi-tools with scissors including brands like Victorinox, Leatherman, Wenger, are designed for right-handed individuals. It would be very important if a right and left-handed individual of your confidence try to cut a circular shape on paper with this scissors, so you could see with your own eyes what I am talking about. It's exactly what you buy... a China's made crap.
9/10 the Gerber Dime is a very, very small package that packs a huge punch. the regular knife was razor sharp out of the package, the package openers cut through plastic and cardboard like it was paper and the lock up for everything was tight. my 2 cons are: tools are hard to get out and that the wire cutters aren't sharp enough. For the money you can not go wrong. Thinking about getting a few of these.
Really well designed, keychain sized multi-tool. Easily replaced my Leatherman Squirt on my EDC keychain! Stylish, functional and seems very durable for most reasonable uses. PLUS the Scissors, Knife and Retail Package Opener came razor sharp! A++
Strongly recommend it for everyday carry or survival tins because its is compact useful and cheap enough for that great quality.
Love the design, and the retail package cutter worked really well (hate those plastic packages). The knife blade wasn't able to cut into the plastic package very well and is a little small. The scissors are small and it took me a while to cut a long piece of paper..even just shredded it a few times. The scissors may just be intended for strings on your clothing
Your knives are crap I have returned each one because they break! Your blade broke off opening up a plastic outlet cover "plastic" Never again
Knife is not as sharp as I would like to see and the scissors are not as good as only other Gerber Multitool. They have trouble cutting 550 7 Strand Paracord. However as a keychain tool this tool has a well constructed feel and works well in everyday situations. I love mine. I have the black one and it looks great on a keychain.
