Developed to serve military and law enforcement, this tactical addition is a knife you can bet your life on. Premium design offers a stealth black oxide S30V steel blade, a grippy G-10 handle, and an innovative blade deployment keeps safety front of mind.
A good tactical knife needs to be a problem solver. Gerber drew on the experience of U.S. military personnel and its own expertise crafting technical knives and tools to develop the Propel Downrange AO knife. The result is a tactical folder with assisted opening and a full-size blade that’s as easy to handle and carry as it is durable and capable in the line of duty.
PREMIUM QUALITY BUILT IN PORTLAND, OREGON
There’s no question you’ll be hard on this knife. Gerber built it in Portland, Oregon, using premium S30V steel to offer the most reliable edge possible. The partially serrated blade adds utility when cutting stubborn materials like stout nylon rope or tough plastics, but it’s the premium quality of the steel and durable nature of the G-10 composite handle that set this knife apart from others.
The smooth pivot of Gerber’s Assisted Opening 2.0 mechanism offers seamless, one-handed opening, while the reliable plunge lock and safety switch secure the blade where you want it. Think easy, one-handed operation matched with a slim profile that sits comfortably in your pocket, whether you’re travelling on-base or off. The tanto-style blade’s matte-black oxide coating adds a stealth element where a stainless blade might give you away.
Personal preference dictates how you carry your knife, so Gerber designed the Propel AO with a three-way adjustable clip to customize the knife’s orientation in your pocket or on your belt. You can set it for tip-up or tip-down storage and left-hand or right-hand bias.
DISCREET AND COMFORTABLE
Gerber knows that to earn daily-use status, a folding tactical knife needs to fit your hand and pocket. The Propel’s composite maintains a slim profile that complements the knife’s balanced feel and still provides secure handling in all conditions. Maybe more importantly, you get a full-size tactical knife that carries discreetly and comfortably on the job and off.
got it because i saw it on Demolition Ranch
I've had the knife over a year everything works great, it's just that the pocket clip broke off. It looks like it can screw a new one on I just can't find where to buy the part.
Got this a year and a half ago. Still love it. Blade holds an edge. Never had an issue until a week ago. Clip came loose and fell off. Looking at it, screw holes were worked wider. Waiting to hear back about a new clip and screws. Love this knife.
Real quality construction with nice materials. Handle shape & feel are perfect, with just the right amount of grip from the G-10. Pocket clip has a nice tension to it. Good S30V blade steel, came sharp and centered with an even grind, and an excellent finish on the blade! Deployment is fast and required little break-in time. Plunge lock is smooth and solid with no lock-stick. Arrived with lateral blade play that took me a little time to remedy with a torn set due to tight screws that I didn't want to strip. It's perfect now. Would definitely buy again.
Haven't used it, but the reviews I've seen have been very good. Let me know when you have one available. I can't believe someone gave it less than 5 stars. All of the knives I have from your company are still in use, and all have been flawless (we are talking 10+ years). I've bought some for friends. I guess some people are just not sure of how to take care of their tools (knives). I almost always buy Gerber, and not many others, that's for sure. You folks ROCK..!! Great products. I also buy many other tools from you besides the once in a while knife. Keep it up..!! I'm proud to support your Brand Name..!!
wish this came with a fine edge option instead of just partially serrated
The Gerber Propel Downrange is the best, because its nice S30V steel and G10 handle is nice and stainless, with durability seen all over the knife. There are no actual problems on this knife, as it has everything you want and nothing bad about it. Buy this knife, as you will never regret it. It will last all your years of service!
I am writing this after severely cutting my finger on this knife. This is because of the knifes poor quality locking mechanism. A system that is designed so that the knife does not deploy by accident in ones pocket or such.... BUT it does let the knife blade out of place slightly enough that if you reach for it in your pocket you will CUT YOURSELF because it is partially deployed even with the lock on....
Overall I really wanted to like this product, but because of this tremendously dangerous fault and overlook of mechanical design I'm affraid this will be the LAST gerber product I will be purchasing.... You can get so much more value and quality of knife for your $$$ through other knife brands... Sorry gerber, but this cut will be the last!

The reason I am writing this review is because 20 minutes before this, a car flipped over on the freeway on its back in a ditch and trapped were 3 people inside. Before first responders were able to arrive on scene, this knife made it possible to break the windows and cut free the victims from their seatbelts and into safety. My Gerber Propel Downrange AO saved 3 lives today on Dec 25, 2014.
I just picked one of these up as an EDC knife that was durable and versatile, and Gerber nailed it! The only complaint is that at first the plunge lock and the safety are a little sticky. a few things I might change:
1. Make a drop point version of this so there is more multirole blade than the more specialized Tanto blade.
2. maybe include an allen wrench for the pocket clip. Maybe at least a paper telling you the sizes of wrench to use. Maybe its just me, but I don't happen to have the proper size of allen wrench on hand.
I sat for maybe 30 minutes just flipping the blade. Solid knife. The G10 scales are very aggressive. Between the scales and the solid metal pocket clip, this thing isn't likely to be falling out of your pocket anytime soon. Cant wait to get some use out of it!
