With a super-lightweight frame lock design, this knife delivers surprising strength and functionality. The streamlined handle adds no bulk to the slim profile, making it the perfect mate for your pocket. Opening and closing are a cinch with dual thumbstuds.
We built these knives for the non-conformist in you. The Ripstop I & Ripstop II are super-lightweight frame lock concepts that deliver bold strength and high functionality. The weight of the all stainless steel construction knife is made lighter by the intriguing handle and blade design. There's no bulk in the thin, streamlined handle. Dual thumb studs make opening the blade a snap. Closing it is a simple one-handed step.
Butterfly Opening Multi-Tool
You can not beat it for the money! Easy to carry and great infrastructure.
Bought a Ripstop ! great little knife ,concerned about locking mechanism seems a little bit weak.Great price.
Great pocket knife while the locking clip was attached. The pivot started loosening then the clip wouldn't engage and soon broke. I would buy another but surely Gerber can do something about one of my favorite knives
This is a great knife. I got it as a gift over 2 years ago and had it on my dresser for 1 whole year before I got into really nice knives. I put an edge on it and cut through a soup can for a project (gasification stove) and the edge stayed. I started using it a lot and then the locking mechanism broke. there is a weak point in the lock that is very thin that made it break. Liked it though so I am sending it in soon. I will post the end results.
Excellent Knife all way there clipped inside my pocket and to hand for those daily tasks. just works!. great! i have had mine 4 years
The locking clip failed me after two months, might of been less. I have always had good dealings with Gerber. But this design is Meh!!. It seems that the quality of the blade has gone down. I like to keep my knives as sharp as a surgeons scalpel, but this one is not holding a edge at all. It's dull after cutting a apple. I just hope its just this one batch of knives not the whole Gerber line.
I picked one up yesterday from a local pawn shop, they had a large bucket of assorted pocket knives priced at 3/$20. This one caught my eye along with a c33Tx Leatherman and a no name mini hook blade folder. The Gerber is in great shape, after 20 minutes of love, with a quick dissemble, grease,a couple drops of lock tight, rebuild and precision sharpen this is an excellent pocket utility knife. At $18 retail listed on the site, I'd give it 9/10 for the price range.
The most discreet knife i have ever owned
While it isn't the sharpest of knives it retains what edge it has quite well. i have had this knife for 6 years and I have never had an issue with it even with the number of times I've dropped it off of a roof or the like. it is also thin enough to clip anywhere comfortably. The only reason it isn't my standard everyday knife is that the blade simply is too small and too dull. but for someone that needs a small or indestructible knife this is the best there is
I have owned several of these knives. I have purchased a few as gifts. The gift comes with a caveat; great knife but doesn't stay sharp. This is the most beautifully designed knife; brilliant engineering with 13 pieces but made with incredibly sub-standard blade steel. The best part of this knife is the belt clip. It goes deep - completely to the end of the knife. Nothing is sticking out of the top of your pocket/pants. When I have nice pants on I put it inside my waist band and my belt covers the clip. I can grab it in a second. This is the finest feature and I have not found any better than this design. I don't want to 'show-off' I have a knife in my pocket/pants waste. This is sturdy and can take a beating; but the blade will not withstand any hard work; it's really junk / but I love the knife. I WILL PAY MORE FOR GOOD STEEL! I believe this is the best pocket knife ever designed and worthy of more material investment. The set screws need to be measured more carefully. If they are properly sized this knife will outlive the owner without an issue. If you can recommend another Gerber with these features but with better blade steel please tell me. I will gladly buy one and try it. But the overall blade is 2 3/4 to the center pin. Thick blade that can take lateral pressure without snapping. this is the best designed pocket knife ever; why blow it? ALSO: what degree do you sharpen your blades. Most quality sharpeners have 11-15-19-22-25. I sharpen mine at 19. Fix this Gerber because this design is more than worth it.
I found this knife and it was one of the best knifes I ever owned until I lost it but I will be getting another one soon I used it for every thing my only complaint is that the blade was loose and it would wobble a bit
Opened my knife, super stoked. Tried to clip it on my pants, and the freakin clip snapped in half. the knife broke in 5mins
Solid knife. Good feel, very sturdy. Came VERY dull though. It's taking a while to sharpen it.
I love Gerber products. I've been using them in the Automotive/Aviation industry for at least 20 years. When I've had issues with my products, it was an immeadiate replacement. No hassles, no questions. They just make it happen. Thank you Gerber.
the blade is hard to open with the thumb studs
and what is the point with the thumb studs they are in the the wrong place and don't even work the blade does not keep a sharp edge this really disappointed me .
I have had it now for over two years. And I've used it primarily as a wood processing knife. When I am in the woods setting traps using toggles or other primitive traps. It works very well handling precision wood removal. And also the grind of the blade suits this purpose extremely well. I feel that this knife for its size is a perfect companion for the woodsman for exact wood removal and also for whittling.
I got this knife for an unbeatable 16 dollars! The Knife is very light weight compared to other hunting knives! A great Modern design and the blade is extremely sharp. I love this knife and take it everywhere I go. Plus the knife is beautiful looking! A must have for anyone! great job Gerber!
I ha this for years. I use this more than any knife I have
Bought this knife for camping but i found out it works perfect for me at work... i would recommend it to any one looking for a DURABLE knife
A lot of folks seem to put this knife down like it's a $100 rip-off. Remember this is a sub-$20 knife, and it serves the purpose of a basic knife rather well. I've owned mine for about 8 or 9 years. Never had a problem. If you want to cut down a tree buy a chainsaw.
This is probably the tuffest (coolest) Knife i have ever owned. It is lightweight, the thumb studs are perfectly placed, and it sharpens easily and stays sharp. It flips open extremely easily, and locks perfectly. it is also easy to close with one hand. THIS BLADE ROCKS!!!
stays the sharpest of any pocket knife i have every owned.
I've had this knife for years now, carrying it daily. Its Sturdy, no wiggle from the hinge and no rust. Its the perfect little pocket knife, and under the legal carry length in my area.
I have had some issues keeping a sharp edge on the tip of the blade, and the thumb stud is bothersome when sharpening it.
Overall, by far the best knife i've owned, and my favorite knife.
I found this knife on the side walk and i am glad i did! it is a nice, small knife that i keep at my desk to help with everything i do. it is the perfect size to carry around.
I got this knife and the lager version for a gift a year ago and I have to say that this knife is probably the best knife I have ever owned! I never had to sharpen this knife which blew me away! This knife was the perfect size and was great to use! When I lost this knife a month ago I was extremely dissipointed but I will definitely be buying another! Well done Gerber
I like the design and style, and it was reasonably sharp out of the package. However, within a week of keeping it in my pocket for daily carry, small rust spots started to appear on both the blade and frame. I've carried a Gerber Hinderer in the same pocket since it first came out and have never seen a hint of rust on it. Nothing in my pockets, whether stainless or any other kind of metal, has ever rusted. Not only that, but a second one I had gotten to keep in my car also developed rust spots when I started carrying that one in my pocket instead of the first one.
This knife comes with a razor sharp edge out of the box. I have used this for opening packages , cutting branches trimming plants and slicing food. I have dropped it thrown it and beaten it up and it continues to exceed my expectations. I lost it in the mountains so I had to get a new one because this is such an outstanding knife. Retains an edg forever Easily concealed easy pocket clip and is small most useful knife I have ever had. Great deal good job gerber!!!!
Overall, it's an okay knife. The whole "frame lock" seems a bit stupid. It's a bad design and extremely hard to lock.
I got this knife as a present 2011. Have been very happy with it's performance I live on a farm it is the handiest knife I have ever used or owned. I would recommend it to all of my friend and family.
first of all the serrated one is better. second of all it is hard to open the blade with the thumbstud. This knife is pretty disappointing and overpriced. try again gerber.
I got this little knife 2 years ago as a gift and it hasn't left my pocket since. It is indestructible and keeps an edge really well. Gerber out did itself quality wise. I don't even notice it in my pocket and is the perfect size for everyday use. Best gift I have received in years.
Disappointed. Nice and lightweight however I bought mine last year and after only using it a handful of times the blade release lever is cracked and is about to fall off. It looks like it is two separate pieces. In fact if you look at the image above (bottom below the first and second torx screws) you can see there is a slight difference in color in the metal. I expect better from Gerber.
I have had this knife for a few years now. Only about 2 months of the time i was using a different knife for edc. I always went back. This $16 knife can take a beating. I used it multiple times daily. 2 complaints: No jimping (I expect jimping when i also know the Kershaw chill is $16 and has jimping and is comparable in size) and tip down (deep carry is a plus) carry. But these complaints can be ignored easily when you see the amount of abuse this knife can take. Bottom Line is: This knife needs one of those "Hello Trouble" Commercials.
this knife is a good durable edc knife.
Highly recommend this knife.
It's worth its money and is very practical. I take it everywhere. Talk about conveniant. It's worth buying.
The first thing that strikes me about this knife is the durability. When I hold it, I feel like I'm holding a substantial chunk of steel that will take a massive beating. That being said, it's light enough that I forget it's in my pocket. I love the deep carry clip, as I work in a hospital, and knife carry must be discrete. Great knife for the price point.
For its price range it's a very nice knife. The finish and edge are good; the clip works fine. The pivot is a little stiff, I find it difficult to open with the thumb stud alone. Some oil and a bit of use will probably clear that up.
Decent knife for price but its alittle cheap finish on my blade looks to be pitting finish on the handle is also showing wear
i just got it a week ago it is awesome. i just wish the blade was replacabele.
Basic design is excellent, finish leaves a bit to be desired. It was difficult to set the edge properly on the first sharpening - a lot of material to be removed. Sharp edges on thumb studs and cutout in blade left me with paper cuts all over my fingers. Thumb studs protrude just a bit too much so that they catch on your pocket when using the clip. Clip is fairly stiff with a narrow lead-in. The stiffness means it stays on your pocket, but the narrow opening means its a bit of a hassle. I split my thumbnail after frequently prying the clip open to put on my pocket edge. Last critique: the screws holding on the clip aren't countersunk, so they also catch and fray the fabric when clipped.
A great little knife, hardly ever needs to be sharpened. It is well built and like stated above very light weight, it's good for every day use.
It's simple, sturdy, and reliable. The blade is extremely sturdy, the lock has never failed while the knife was in my hand, and the thumb-stud and hole in the blade let you open it without having to think about where to put your finger. I use it as a back
