This is the "Everyone" knife. I have owned a para frame forever it seems. I have serrated and fine edge as well as both mini's. I quite often give these as gifts. I've looked at the auto section and I'm down to four to choose from. It's hard to replace a knife that has become my third hand. I must say a great thank you to all at Gerber. It's a great morale booster to know that my brothers and sisters aren't dying for nothing. Please keep up the fantastic products and your devotion to the American people. God bless all at Gerber and they're families. Covert auto will probably become my fourth hand. Thanks again.

I just bought this knife 2 hours ago. I've had a Gerber 450 EZ-Out for more than 23 years. I only use it for cutting boxes, rope, and nylon webbing, but never had an issue with it. It was just time for an upgrade. After reading everyone's review saying that it couldn't be opened with one hand I was almost deterred from buying it. After opening the package my first thought was 'damn, it can't be opened with one hand." But after a few attempt I realized that it needs to be pushed forward at a 45 degree angle to the handle, then it flicks open effortlessly with one hand. The lock is tight, no blade play in any direction. I'm very happy with this knife.

I feel compelled to write this review after reading what the "Engineer" wrote. This is the best pocket knife I have ever owned and I am now 50 and have been carrying a knife since I received my grandfather's knife at age 8. The open steel handle is why I bought this knife; it creates a light, balanced and extremely strong knife. Ten seconds ago I asked my 5 year old daughter to see if she could get her finger onto the blade in the closed position. She could, but just barely. Then she said, Why would I do that dad, that wouldn't be smart." Regarding "sitting (sic) yourself" (slitting) I am sure my daughter would have similar advice. I have two of these because I love it so much that I could not be without it when I had to send it back to Gerber for a free replacement thanks to their "Lifetime Warranty" so I bought a new one prior to sending it in for repair. You are probably wondering why it needed repair, well let me tell you: After 5 years of really hard use the locking tang fractured. It could have been my fault or a defect, I am not sure. Either way, Gerber sent me a brand new knife. If I owned a business I would also run it the way Gerber does---Quality products, great customer service and a real solid warranty. I am a fan for life of both this knife and Gerber. I now give this knife as a gift to others and I am confident that each time my friends use it in the years to come they will think of me. Oh, one more thing . . . I use this knife to cut fruit on my farm in Hawaii, cut rope, fish things out of tight spaces, clean my finger nails, saw through thin branches, etc, etc., I even swim in the salty ocean every other day and have been doing so for over three years (shark defense) with only minimal rust developing on the frame bushings. Great Knife!

I've used a lot of knives of the farm and most just didn't hold up or stayed sharp enough long enough. This one on the other hand has been my favorite by far!! I just sliced my thumb open the other day on it and I've been using it all the time on wood and baling twine. I would've really had to work to cut myself with my other knives after using them so often. I would defanatly recommend to all my friends.

Finish is excellent. Knife is very sharp as expected. Manufacturing quality is top notch. Well priced.

Open handle however is no good. I can get my finger in windows of the handle. I do not not like that the blade is exposed when closed. It can still cut in the closed position. There is risk of sitting yourself when closing the blade. I would not buy this style again. Handle design is not sufficient.

I have loved the paraframe series since i got my first paraframe mini in a BG basic survival kit. Since I bought a paraframe II it has become my favorite of the series. All of the paraframe knives have very strong construction and sharp blades. They are all great for edc.

My father carried one of these knives with him in the military. It was an older model if the difference in the logo is anything to judge by (A sword in the side of a moutain with the word "GERBER" below it. I always admired this knife and he passed it on down to me. I carry it with me at all times and I use it quite a bit. Despite it's obvious age, it holds up great and it works beautifully. Smooth opening, very secure, and I love to sharpen it... so even if it doesn't hold an edge like others say, it doesn't bother me. Probably my most treasured belonging. This knife is very much worth the money. Only problem I've ever had is that the clip is a bit loose, but after it's been in use for years and years, some flaws should be expected.

i have had this knife for years and it has yet to break on me. durable and affordable. i have had to only sharpen it three times and i use it daily. serration is great for line cutting. perfect size and weight and it fits perfectly in my hand. no problem with screws and no problem with dullness. i like that it takes two hands to open but even then if you do it right you can open it with one hand with no swinging.

I used this knife extensively (open and closing a dozen times a day). It lasted a little over two months before the frame lock failed and broke. I sent it to gerber and they replaced it no hassle. Unfortunately, I am having to replace it again for exactly the same reason. This design flaw is not exclusive to Gerber. I have purchased several other brands of frame lock design and all have failed within two to four months. They all fail at the pivot point of the frame lock (the metal is much thinner there and extensive use causes metal fatigue.

I bought this knife for my dad years ago, and he never used it, so when I came home from college, I claimed it. The only downfalls I've found is slight difficulty in opening it normal (which can be corrected by slinging while holding the thumb rivets) ad like the backpack guy said, the blade is semi-exposed through the frame. Other than that, I've found it to be a great buy.

Once again Gerber got my attention. I bought this for my nephew and I've only heard nothing but compliments on this blade. Since he does live in Maui he's used it in the Hana rainforests numerous times. Taken it camping through the Haleakala crater through the Kaupo Gap side and even took it on several ocean trips. Like me he too keeps his blades well oiled with mineral oil and he has yet to see it fail. However lately he's been asking/begging me to get him a BG Ultimate Survival knife or anything from the Gerber survival series blades. He's well on his way to take over for me when I stop teaching wilderness, urban, ocean, desert, and arctic survival.

im going to be honest i got this knife as a gift and there are now only one screw in the whole thing cuz all of them fell out i think gerber really needs to work on tightening them or makeing a normal screwdriver compatible because it is a waste of $30. they fell out after 2 weeks of edc

I've owned this knife for more than five years. It has stood up to much abuse with pretty much daily use. Thumb stud never fell out; never had any rust issues. The only problem I ran into is the screws needed tightening after about two years of use. Great utility blade!

I've had this knife for just over a year now, the blade came razor sharp, but dulled moderately fast. The thumb stud has just fallen out for the second time after sending in for a repare. Other than that, great blade!

I am an auto mechanic and I use this knife all the time. It's always in my back pocket. I've also never had issues of rust. I have had this knife for well over a year and the only problems I've had, is that the small nipple that helps you pull the blade out fell out.

The high carbon steel of the frame and bladed rusted and pitted after just a few days. If you like this style look at the Paraframe I which seems to be coated. It might help with this issue.

I am I fire fighter and one of the last fires that i was on required me to use this knive that carry with me everywhere. The reason for the one star? The part of the handle that holds the blade from slipping back broke and the serrated edge of this knife

Nice blad but unfortunately if you are digging in a back pack for it - watch out. The blade is exposed enough when closed to give your finger a good slice.
