great knife had it for six months and had to sell it before i sold it for more than i bought it, I was moving and felt it was just extra weight. it is a decision i have come to greatly regret, it was a perfect grip in extreme cold -30 degrees. Went to the local military store and bought four keeper straps and rigged them through the slots of the sheath so it could sit horizontally on the back of my belt, amazing knife cuts through bear skin like nothing highly recommend it
I take this knife with me to drill every month even when sc flooded it worked great hacking at limbs and I even used it to dig a hold in sand while hunting or working this still has a great edge on it even after being used as a shovel I also sank my jeep in mud with water sitting in the floor where I keep this knife after a day of and not even being dried it has no rust at all I love it I wish there was a new sheath since we are changing uniforms and I'm not suppose to have it on my vest anymore
Beautiful, beautiful fixed blade. Very strong and has a very good edge retention. For those who don't know it is made of Sandvik steel. One time I accidentally dropped it near a river which has full of rocks all around and guess what happened? My blade pierced through one of the huge chunks and was stuck in there! It did not chip, at all. Recommend to all collectors and all who use fixed blades everyday. Plus, you would not regret the sheath that is included with the knife package. Perfect knife for me!
My dad got me this knife over 5 years ago when I graduated from basic training and I've taken it to every field problem and deployment. It's been great. Very durable. However I have been searching for a replacement sheath for some time now. The one that comes with the knife is a little out dated, and I would like one that matches with my uniform, or just a solid color. But I can NOT find a replacement anywhere! Help me out!
This blade has been an extension of my hand for the last two years. Nothing can stop this thing. It's been used as a prybar, screwdriver, can opener, shovle and anything else I could think of and its still practically still new. Wish the sheath that came with it was as sturdy. It's still together but on its last limbs. 10 of 10 would rebuy.
Any chance of ever getting Gerber to come out with a diver edition of this knife with a proper leg sheath? I'd love to use this as a dive knife.
I would like to see this knife come with a verity of camo sheaths. I personally like multi cam and would love to have this knife with a multi cam sheath.
Great piece of kit here, have had mine for several years and love it, would have preferred coyote to UCP but its still solid.
This is a great tactical weapon, grippy handle, well balanced, tough and very sharp on arrival, looks cool, functions flawlessly, sheath is quality, glad to add this to my Gerber collection
Great knife to have
Very good knife. Good price. But I would like to see plain versions as well as better steel like 8Cr13MOV, AUS 8, . I made my Tanto plain edge myself. I am just not a big fan of most serrations. But overall great knife, great price, and High Quality Sheath. Proudly Made in the USA!
I love this knife and i useit on duty.Very strong and perfect lenght fot tactical knife, not too big and not too small but functional.Sheats are good but is very hard to take out from the sheats, too strong is locking system, much better solution is on Gerber Prodigy.
Where's my review I submitted over two weeks ago?
The Gerber Prodigy is an excellent hunting/survival tool. It's blade is sharp, sturdy, and surprisingly thick. The handle is more then just comfortable, its also well balanced with the blade and has a great grip to it. Whether you're looking for your first fixed blade or your a knife enthusiast looking to add to the collection, the Prodigy is where it's at. Take it from a proud owner. Hats off to the Gerber team!
it looks kool im looking for baby food
really great knife, i use this for everyday working and terrain service and it's really works!!! i love this knife!!
This knife, due to its light weights, and smaller
size is perfect for hiking. The weight makes it a good choice if you want to have less weight, and its sheath makes it so you can move around with ease.
Love the knife but I lost the sheath and I can't find a way to replace it without buying another knife. The knife went though hell, from breaking windows cutting seat belts even just opening a can of beans, its still sharp and strong.
The knife it's self is fantastic but the sheath that came with it was poorly made.
Ex Army, I put this knife thru hell and back, still does pretty good, the serated edge could go, its annoying, but for cord or rope cuts like a charm.
I WANT ANOTHER ONE!
just received the prodigy well made and good all around knife
While I do not own the knife, it seems counterintuitive to have a serrated edge on a Tonto blade, seeing as Tonto blades are useful exclusively for combat and serrated edges most certainly have an opposite effect.
I've had this knife for almost a year now and I love everything about, my only complaint is in the sheath. I'm already having some of the stitching separating, which I would be able to fix myself if the internal plastic sheath wasn't in the way.
I just buy this knife, and it is so far the best knife i've use !
I have the original Prodigy and like it but I would love if it was made in FDE or coyote color and with a non-serrated edge.
I love the knife but I really think Gerber should make a sheath for this knife like the one they have for the CFB. Even if the price goes up a little.
Simply the best knife that I ever owned. Best bang for your buck!
Can you guys make this in black like the prodigy non-tanto version? That be great!!!!
PLEASE MAKE ONE IN BLACK WILL BUY ANOTHER ONE IF IN BLACK!!!!!!!
Give us a black color option and I will buy it...........AGAIN~!!!!!!!!!!
everything is outstanding, but the color. Please make solid black knife and I will purchase another one.
Hands down best knife I own. Looking forward to a black one. Judging by the comments many agree with me.
Please Make IN BLACK!!!!!
i love this knife. it is very sturdy and durable with UBELIEVABLE sharp blade and thick also. highly recommended.
i love this knife. it is very sturdy and durable with UBELIEVABLE sharp blade and thick also. highly recommended.
for starter if my life depended on this knife, I would survive! this knife is tough a nails and takes heavy beatings also its razor sharp. just stop reading and buy this thing, you will not regret it!
I just bought this knife today and wow I am very pleased. I used this knife to cut down limbs and used it to paton wood. very good knife. love the sheath. KEEP IT UP GERBER!
purchased this knife to attach to my rapid deployment bag that I carry in my patrol vehicle. recently had to access a locked vehicle during an emergency (medical condition of driver). I utilized the glass breaker to access a dark tinted window. The tint makes the glass a bit harder to shatter. Three hits with the Prodigy glass breaker and entry was gained. Was then able to use the back of the blade to clear away the rest of the glass. No visible damage to the knife or glass break. Knife will be part of my gear for a long time to come. If there was any improvement to be made it would be to actually be to make the glass break pointed at the tip instead of squared. Great product guys.
Best knife ever just got it and it deserves a better sheath
fortunately i happen to live in the dump called south Africa, where everything that I desperate desire cannot be purchased. simply because the great and powerful USA does not ship to Africa. FML. basically most weapons that i love come from the tactical segment. and as you may know that you have to be in the pro purchase section to even be able to purchase from there. what a downside. i am a 15 year old young man, and i have been collecting weapons since i was 9. my dream right at this very moment is to live in the great USA with all my fellow gun lovers. wish me luck.
Best knife ever
i currently do not have the knife. i am a knife collecter and i ownly buy the best/strongest knives... and i must say... this knife would most definetly go in my arsenal.
really great knife, from the moment i opened it i loved it. although wish i had the ability to have a different sheath with the same blade. cuts good, holds its sharpness well, and i carry it with me all the time
I have had this knife so long it has the old school mountain Gerber logo on it. It has been through fire, animals, wood, under water in hurricane sandy, ect. and still works like new. one of the best if not the best knife I have ever gotten!! this thing can take a beating, highly suggested.
bought one a year ago, and when it fell out of my Liberty gun safe, one of the prongs on the sheath that hold the hilt when the knife is sheathed broke, and now the knife wobbles and rattles around, making stealth more difficult. Great knife, made in Portland, OR, but a crappy sheath, made in Taiwan. go figure. So far one year's hard use camping, farming, working, and hunting and this knife is holding out. wonderful.
I abused the knife through several classes while at the mountain operations school and while at work and it performed flawlessly. I witnessed several SOG's break as well as some very high $$ custom knives. The grip is well designed and sized for extended use. After several months of continuous abuse my hands did not blister from this knife and it worked as well as the day I took it out of the box. Yes the finish wears off but for everything else this knife can do I feel it's not a deal breaker especially for the price.
had this since it came out, works great, a little annoying to sharpen, great for prying things apart, the pommel is great for hammering and Breaking glass... all out great knife
Great knife it works very well I used it will i was camping with my friends and cut down a small tree. The serrated edge is better than most. I didn't like the sheath so I made a new one out of deer hide. Then sold the sheath to my friend. Gerber if u read this the knife would be worth with what u charge for it If you could costumize the color of the sheath if u perchance it online
is the blade material the same as the original prodigy ?
I just got this knife at bass pro! I was so glad that they had it in stock! It is one of the best strongest knives ever made! I am going to use this knife outdoors and take it hunting! Great job gerber
I currently have the Prodigy, and the LMF II in black, and wish that the new Prodigy Tanto came in a black, or FDE color scheme as well-as I'm not a fan of the digital camo sheath color scheme.
Bought two for my Zombie Outbreak B.O.B
yes better sheath
I think that it should come in Black too. The green is cool but i think that more people might want black mainly because its plain. If you did that, i would buy it....
Recent upgrade, got to say, it's a great knife. I ended up covering the sheath in electrical tape and that worked just fine.
If this knife came with a plain colored sheath i would love it. It would be awesome if the handle and sheath came in Coyote Brown.
Agree a better sheath would sell me on this knife
I picked up this knife today, I love the feel, it is solid, i cannot wait to use it.
just got this kniife a month ago and just taking it out of the sheath and putting it back in the finish on the blade has started coming off
fine edge all got to say
I do agree to the other review that the sheath is akward, and I find myself not carrying this knife not nearly as much as I would like to. The balance and feel to the knife is solid yet light weight. She is a beast and can stand up to the weather. I wear this hunting and camping mainly. Keeps a good edge. I would recomend this knife for everyday use along with survival and or tactical knife.
Good knife, good size for standard stuff that you have to take care of in the field. Make it non serrated and a sheath that has a pocket for a 4" stone and its perfect.
I like this Knife very much. A good jump Knife. Very useful in confined areas and urban hand to hand. I recommend this weapon for deployment.
make one that is not a serrated edge
I love the look of a Tanto blade. I personally wish they offered it in both serrated and un-serrated. This is the next knife on my list--all I have are folders and a Limited Edition Winchester that I would like to keep nice. Thanks to the other posts I've decided this knife will be my go-to for hunting/all-purpose/self-defense. Thanks Gerber. I'll probably invest in a drop-point Prodigy if this one meets my expectations; I like matched pairs.
I have this as well as the LMF 2 and I love these knives!! Job well done Gerber!
Great knife only problem with it is that i really don't like the sheath. If it came with a sheath more like the LMF 2 Infantry than I would be in love with it. please make some other sheath for this sexy beast
Sadly enough, I bought this knife at a Fry's Electronics. When I got it out of the package and hefted it in my hand, I immediately fell in love. A strong, thick blade, with full tang design, gives the feel of a very sturdy, very useful tool. The sheath made mounting it to my MOLLE pack/vest a breeze, and frequently accompanies me on hiking trails, camping trips, or anytime I'm out in the wild. Anyone in need of a versatile, functional, all purpose knife, look no further.
I've held this blade in person thanks to friends who own it, and the bass pro shop. I want it for my collection. It feels reliable looks attractive to the eye, just like a Gerber. Even more then any great made knife by, Gerber. Ill share my opinion once I have one of my own.
If you like the look of this knife, buy it! No matter what other people tell you this knife is great. The blade is unually thick, which is good and its extremely durable. The grip is great. People say its cheap. Its not its perfect. Have never had any problems with this knife at all. Neither will you.
you know how a edge is sharped on both sides why not make that on the serrations
other whys great knife very durabale
I love the knife but I have a knife with a round serrated edge it's the Akbar tdi that round serration does not wear Dow or chip at the points at all or never cuts better
Great Knife, plan to pick up another, but would LOVE it in a plain edge.
Does Gerber sell any tactical polymer sheaths for this knife. Its a good knife the only problem i have is with the sheath it came with. I'm looking for one that I can clip onto my vest.
I don t like serration my self and at least 32 of my friend would love this knife in plane edge please make. or send me a blank with no serration two who it may brother please comment to help this happen
This knife is the best i have ever owned, and it saved my life! A junkie ran up on me with a baseball bat in an alley behind a parking garage and this knife didn't let me down.
part of us marines nice knife
no complaints with the knife, great grip, feels solid in the hand. the sheath could be better the snap on the lock strap pulled through on the first unsnapping, making the strap useless, so i cut it off.
besides the strap, the sheath isnt bad, the lick in clips hold the knife solid in place, espically with the butt end cover.
it is amazing .what a handle and what a blade it is like a japanese katana sword.
Best knife I have ever owned, sharp, strong, has a Great heathe! Love it! And I'd I mention it isU.S.A made!?
I would love to purchase this knife...However I'm not in the military and would feel like an idiot walking around with a camo sheath.
Ths knife is super sharp and will never fail, GREAT BUY!
Is there any way to get it without the ACU pattern? Coyote or just plain black would be perfect.
I keep this knife close and use it for all my out door work. Its tough and does everything I need it to. I can't complain, gerber never falls short of perfection in ther knives
i bought it during a mission, and that's a great tool and i was surprised because this knife is really efficient ! for everything . thanks Gerber.
French Marines Corps,1st compagny, 2nd regiment, 9TH Bataillon.
I gave this knife a good run. Its a beast!!!
Picture of my Prodigy Tanto doing work
I'm a Marine and an avid outdoorsman, and have owned Gerber knives for most of my life. I like this knife and have concidered buying it for some time. However, I own an LMF II and love versitility of its sheath which also comes with the standard prodigy knife. If you were to offer this knife with that sheath, it would be a no brainer for me.
this knife is awesome and i love it to pieces
I just bought this knife a couple days ago and so far it is great. I do alot of outdoor activities and it is a great little knife to have as a secondary tool.It has great handling and a fairly good size to weight ratio. But I would prefer if it came in non serrated. But all in all its a great little knife.
I recieved it today and i absoutely love it!!!
Awesome knife, great for any B.O.B bag or just camping. The handles is a little smaller than I prefer. But this is the best knife for the price. Also, it's made in the u.s.a which is a big decision maker for me.
I stop reading reviews after Mr. Perfect wrote "Good gob Gerber!"
just bought one cant wait to play with it hell yea
i want one
Its a really strong and reliable knife build to last. Good gob Gerber!
Went Hunting today, and when the birds stopped coming, my buddy and I chopped down a tree 5 inches in diameter with it!
the tanto shape for a blade is like ninjas and shadows its just makes it that more badass! this new line of "Prodigy" just screams strength and beauty all together an amazing knife!
Gerber you couldn't have created a better knife. When I get the money I'm going tomorder two!
