A distinctively different every day carry, this elegant folder features a black G-10 handle that offers superior grip for deployment and use. Dual thumb studs afford ambidextrous one-hand deployment and a liner lock keeps the blade steadily in place.
Gerber’s classic Air Ranger, designed by acclaimed knife maker Bill Harsey, gets an assist with a new G-10 handle to deliver the superior grip expected of this iconic knife. Possessing an elegant fine edge drop point blade, the folder packs a serious punch. The Air Ranger Black G-10 folding knife is a great, logical daily carry for addressing trouble efficiency.
G-10 TEXTURED PERFORMANCE
Establishing the Air Ranger as distinct from similar folders is its innovative handle. The ultra-tactile G-10 offers you steady purchase while deploying the blade. Its one-hand opening releases with a thumb using the dual thumb studs positioned near the hilt, and the liner lock keeps the blade open safely during use. Make dexterous use of this sturdy knife in all conditions.
GET THE JOB DONE
Deploy the Air Ranger G-10 to open tape on the latest Internet delivery, cut cardboard to help with a child’s school project, or cut the tow rope when boating. Resilient black oxide coating on the blade and all hardware gives you a low-profile, highly corrosion-resistant knife when you need it. The well-attached pocket clip reliably keeps it tethered to a pocket or belt loop. The lanyard hole provides optional tie-down and additional security for the sturdy knife.
I went to the store a while back to buy an aluminum Air Ranger & saw this as well. I went with this due to the non-serrated blade (which is pretty uncommon to see on a larger than 3 inch Gerber) & the coated instead of bare bead blasted steel. Overall a really interesting knife but lock is dangerous to utilize for anything but very light tasks.
-Quite sharp (near mirrored) & had an impressively consistent edge bevel. Sharpest Gerber factory edge I've seen besides my BG (now US1).
-Lightweight for a steel lined G10 knife
-Pocket clip has good tension
-Looks sleek yet still retains that signature gorgeous Harsey silhouette
-AMAZINGLY smooth given its manual operation. Super fun to play with if you're a compulsive knife flicker. All with no side-to-side play.
-Strong detent keeps it folded, no danger of it popping out.
-G10 feels nicely grippy yet isn't rough enough to ruin your pants.
-Very odd base of the bevel grind would make it very difficult to sharpen without heavy modification
-Spine ramp jimping is essentially aesthetic. Just soft bumps.
-Liner lock is surprisingly difficult to move by hand & quickly causes a fairly experienced thumb to become sore.
-Though I don't expect 7Cr17MoV to be incredible, the blade steel is very soft. Exhibited chips almost instantly from tasks my other knives (which are of equivalent price/steel) would handle fine. Don't know if I merely got a poorly-tempered blade or not.
The reason I CAN'T recommend it:
-The liner lock significantly moves even with the slightest pressure on the blade. I haven't gotten it to fail but I've almost unlocked it just by pressing against the blade with my hand. I can't carry this anymore. If I wouldn't have noticed this I am positive it would have failed on me and I'd possibly get quite injured. I think it might be the coating on the liner where it meets the blade or the other way around.
Cool knife but too much of a risk to use.
Nice light sturdy knife with a somewhat better blade material than Im used to in Gerber knives, at least this one holds edge fairly well. Its a tiny bit large for my daily pocket carry, but thats a personal thing. The pocket clip could have been used to lock a gate so it had to go, that left a hole in the handle.I would have preferred the open assist stud to be a mm further out from the pivot to give a bit of improved leverage for opening. My hands are large. I have recommended the knife and would buy another myself
A good left handed knife for lefties.smooth action unfolding the knife. Light and good grip in upwards and downwards postion. Razer sharp afther factory sharpen. Waiting for trainer blade version.would great tool version for martial arts. For me is hard to find a blade for my personal needs. Very strong build..i cut kindling with it and still sharp. Good product. Edc use
About the only thing that I'd like to see changed is to have the lip of metal for depressing the liner-lock down in order to unlock be protruding ever-so-slightly farther out to make it just a tiny bit easier to push against.
Everything else is great!
Love this knife. Got the green handle with the fine edge blade. Super sharp out of the box. Blade was a little stiff at first but with constant use it opens smoothly now. Super light too. I don't even feel it in my pocket. Best Gerber yet.
The blade came sharp but it wiggles side to
side up & down. Pocket clip wiggles side to
side easily. Every screw/bolt was loose.
The paint comes off easily when scuffed.
I have had Gerber Gear, Gerber Knives, Gerber Tools and Gerber Tactical Pens I
rate all of it at 5 stars except the Gerber
Good ergos, nice and sharp out of the packaging, and lightweight. If you guys did this in a high performance steel, it would be your #1 seller!
I've had this for a couple of years and carry it every day. It's been interior camping, used at work and around the house. Lightweight and good quality, I'd buy it again if I lost it.
Got one as a knife in my goose bag. Cheap and lifetime warranty are hard to find. Has razor sharp edge. Can't wait to use it in the field.
This knife is perfect. Have used it alot in the last 3 years. Gerber, PLEASE do this in s30v, d2, 154cm, or somthing else like that. Will DEFINITELY recommend this knife!
