With a full tang, 420HC steel blade and rubberized diamond-texture grip, this is a knife you can bet your life on. The MOLLE-compatible multi-mount sheath system offers optimal customization, keeping your knife ever at the ready in combat situations.
The ever-evolving battlefield demands gear that keeps up, providing versatile and dependable tools built specifically for combat and survival situations. Gerber has been making survival knives for those who serve since 1966, rising to the challenge of honoring decades of experience while continuing to innovate.
Gerber’s StrongArm does just that: it is a classic fixed blade built for brute strength with a revolutionary sheath system that is the first of its kind. The multi-mount, snap-together sheath is easy to use and can be mounted vertically on MOLLE, horizontally on a belt, or in traditional drop-leg fashion.
Customizable to your needs in the field, the StrongArm is the smart evolution of the classic fixed blade.
This is a great knife and very sharp out of the box, also it is great for camping., the grip is spectacular and it is very easy to keep a hold of even int eh worst of conditions. it is beautifully balanced and the sheath can be used for many different things so that is helpfull as wel.
This is a stellar knife. Check out the gauntlet eval. 7 knife channels send the same knife to one another with bushcraft testing, tactical testing, cutting large openings in 30 gallon drums, carving up truck tires to breaching doors. Wow and all that punishment on the same knife and held up beautifully. Do not shy away from this one. I work with different steels and i'm surprise there are some who think 420 HC is inferior. 420HC can be sharpened to a very fine cutting edge and a mirror finish. 420HC has become a popular grade. It has fair toughness and good corrosion resistance. Using a stronger steel will mean that sharping is also very tough. 10 out of 10!
I wanted to wait until I had the knife a while before the review. I've had it now for about a year and a half, and I have to say that I'm as impressed with it now as I was when I first opened the box.
When I first held it I knew this knife meant business. All those hours of watching and reading reviews on this knife had paid off.
Only needed to touch up the blade for the longest time before it needed sharpening, and even then, it didn't really need it, but it's something I like to do.
Great in every way but one. There's a hump on top of the grip that just seems like it's in the wrong spot. It feels like it causes some minor fatigue in the hand when carving wood with it. Despite that, it's always with me on the trail.
I was in the market for a do it all knife IE hunting, hiking, camping, and self defence/ tactical. I looked at Esee, benchmade, k-bar, Tops, CRKT, buck, Ontario, fallkniven and a bunch more. I was Limited to 200$ so it was tough Choice. A lot of knifes to pick from. But in Canada prices are higher than the US and the gerber strong-arm was only 100$. It is the best knife at 100$ by a long shot! It was half my budget and I could not be happier, what great knife!! It is exactly what I needed. Versatile solid, very dependable, perfect balance, sharp, most of all it is my favourite knife. If you are thinking about new knife buy it trust me.
I was recently in the market for a new fixed blade straight edged knife for defense and general purpose uses. I can't remember how I came across it now, but obviously I did my do diligence in researching this blade... The reviews I read were all amazing and the youtube videos were all sterling as well. I ordered it from Amazon for an absolute steal. The 420HC blade didn't bother me as several other quality knife makers use the same steel. The sheath was another great selling point, I have used it to attach to my Molle bug out bag with great success. The horizontal carry is innovative as can be... My Only gripe with this knife and sheath is the vertical belt carry! I am wondering if anyone from Gerber engineering actually tried to use it this way. It is very lacking in functionality. I was so let down with this that I almost sent it back... However, I figured a way to use it anyway. I
In conclusion, the knife itself is as tough as a military knife should be. Two out of three ways to mount the sheath are perfect (and that ain't bad). The only reason I don't give it all 5 stars is because of the vertical mounting option for your belt (that I mentioned above). Since I have a "fix" for the vertical mounting I am now 100% happy with this purchase. I think that Gerber should fix the sheath problem and make all new knives with the new fabricated fix!
SHARP out of the box. If you want to hang it upside down commando wanna be style trying taping as John Wayne would.
I wanted this knife in case I was stuck in another bad situation, and had to get supplies. I have not had to use it, but I decided to use it with a bug out bag. Taken it camping, cut branches, and dig, I love this knife. The sheath is great, and the buttons are strong enough so that it does not fall!.
Very nice, strong, and the grip is very nice. The sheath is very nice and it can be attached in a mole webbing. This knife so amazing because it is so strong.
The knife is great. It is very strong and can take anything I throw at it. I was looking for a tough sheath knife and I chose this one because it was full tang and had a very sturdy blade. I love the grip and all the different carry styles it takes. Amazing knife!!
I picked this up for self defense and absolutely love the knife itself. Comfortable and secure in the hand at a variety of angles and the striking pommel is devastating. The modular sheath leaves a lot to be desired, though. The snaps tend to break free before the knife in any rapid draw scenario, resulting in raising a sheathed knife to defend yourself. Also, no configuration for inverting the knife on your belt, which is my favorite style. This knife could save your life, if you don't die before you can ready it.
Great knife! Love the sheath and the non slip handle. Can handle some serious abuse. Great job Gerber!
hands down the best knife gerber has ever made in my opinion. i have the prodigy and the lmf2 and the bear grylls modle and the strongarm is by far my favorite out of the whole lot. the strongarm has an awesome steel i have had mine for about a year now and i have put this knife through literal hell and it just keeps taking it and coming back for more absolutely love this knife. thanks gerber for one of the best fixed blade knife in the world
Just got this for Christmas 2015. Excellent knife. Was shaving sharp out of the box. A few drops on my leather belt and it was hair posing sharp. Balance in the hand is excellent. Sheath system is very nice especially at this price point. I added a small pouch to the sheath with some Velcro straps. Holds a fire steel and small DC3 sharpening stone. I got the knife for camping and backpacking to get lighter weight than my large 6" knife. Handle is very comfortable. One quibble is that there is a significant price increase for the Desert tan model. I see no reason to do that other than gouging people a little. I think that detracts from the otherwise great product. These things are marketed to the M&P industry which runs on honor and integrity. Upping the price for a different color which does not enhance performance is incongruent with the message the product tries to send. Fix that company policy and you will do well. So whatever color you get, you will have a great multipurpose knife.
This is an extremely well built and designed knife. I have used this knife out in the
field many times and especially has a awsome handle and holds an edge well. Good job gerber
A great knife, held up well for months and can keep a edge. I would recommend it to anyone with a hunger for a great knife.
If I warmed it up, it might cut butter! I'm sure it will be fine once it's sharpened, but why? I have never purchased a knife that needed sharpening right out of the box. Disappointed to say the least.
if you're worried about a little stain on the blade, you should stay out of the woods and sleep in a hotel.
Gerber really hit it out of the park with this one! Put simply, this is one of the finest production knives I've ever owned. If you could own only one Gerber knife, make it this one. It is that good!
Knife arrived dull, and the bottom of the blade has a ugly oil stain that will NOT come off. Good knife and I know its only cosmetic but it should not arrive like this.
I just ordered this knife and everything looked good. My only issue is that a bit of oil somehow got under the coating or it sat upon the knife for so long it does not want to come off.I know I'm just being picky but it looks rather ugly.
After some use, this new Made in the USA gerber blade performs well. I used it while camping and it did great for al,the tasks I asked of it. It carved sticks, created kindling and fuzz sticks for a fire, sparked a ferro rod, cut rope, and sliced up our meat for supper. The sheath is well thought out and allows for multiple carry options. The handle fit my hand well and was very grippy in all conditions. I ordered a fine edge from an Internet site, and received a serrated in the box. Gerber's customer service was awesome, and quickly replaced it with the fine edge version that was supposed to be in the box.
This is the best gerber I've ever owned! Extremely comfortable in my hand... Handles bushcraft task with ease and can split wood like no tomorrow.... Excellent right out of the package sharp and oiled up ready to go... The sheath is top notch as with all gerber products and lifetime warranty.... Just can't be beat at an incredible price! Thank you gerber
Top notch quality - couldn't be more pleased with Gerber's craftsmanship.
Check out my review here: http://ultimatesurvivalgear.com.au/gear-reviews/30-new-gerber-strongarm-tactical-knife
People think that 420hc is a bad steel but other than edge super long lasting edge re tension it is better than most. You can cut, chop, pound,Hamer and stab with out mesing it up to bad you can try to chip it will not be esay (try that with s30v). It actually has a decent edge retention and if you are worred about it will going dull on you just carry a soft arkansa stone with some leather and I am sure there is a place where it can be attached to the shealth to. If you think the steel is that bad buy a cheaper knife from gerber with 420hc and test it you will be amazed.
such a good looking blade ruined with cheap 420HC steel. this knife would of been dam near close to perfect if it wasn't for that steel.
I am looking for a good fixed blade. I would like to know about handle ergonomics and if the is comfortable to hold?
Did i miss something? The Strongman looks great, has great specs, i want one! I clicked "shop now" and can't find an order button, price (which is just a formality at this point),etc. What the hey? I think you should go ahead and ship me out one complementary, and in return i will examine, use, then promptly write a review of it! Lol! This review can be used here as well as anywhere else it would be fitting. Thanks, and i look forward to putting your new knife through its paces. Lol!!
All the "lol-ing" aside, feel free to send me any"promo" items you feel like. Lifetime (and daily, seriously- i rarely go a day without using my Dime) Gerber user/fan here who loooves new gear
The STRONGARM looks like the cousin of the PRODIGY. I've been a proud owner of a PRODIGY (serrated edge) for almost 6 years now. The knife has literally been around the world with me and was always right next to me in Afghanistan.
I love the PRODIGY, but I think I'm more excited about this one with the new handle design, but specifically the fine edge. Nothing against serrated edges, which are great when called for, but I'm a big fan of the fine edge the STRONGARM offers.
I also have PRODIGY's big brother, the LMF II, which also has the combo edge. Any chance of coming up with a fine edged big brother for STRONGARM?
Please keep me posted when STRONGARM is ready to roll out.
Thanks for taking care of us, Gerber!!!
