Every Gerber product has a story to tell. The story of the LMF II is one of resilience and resourcefulness, of being on the wrong side of sticky situation and living to tell the tale. The purpose driven design of this knife stems from the experience of former military man Jeff Freeman, combining thoughtful design features and life-saving application.

Originally designed to free an aircrew from a downed aircraft, the LMF II is tough enough to cut through the fuselage of an aircraft and smart enough to ensure you are safe while doing so. The knife has a purposeful break between the tang and the butt cap, providing insulated protection against stray wires and absorbing any shock from hammering.

This 10” survival knife was built to adapt to any scenario thrown at it – ensuring comfort, versatility, and safety when you need it most.

I recently got this knife I think I got a different version it came with a strap cutter. I love it so far it eats tree branches and the sheath is a tight fit which is great.

Had to take the time to send a good review in for this knife. Took it for the first time into Marjah, Afghanistan in 2011(Look it up). From everything to opening MRE's to breaching small doors, this knife held up great! The sheath was great for different attachment locations as I started it on the drop leg, to a belt and finally to upside down on my flak. Youre money will be well spent! Mine is still on my flak to this day.

If I was in the military and was supplied this knife as a survival tool, I would email a family member to send me an Ontario Blackbird ASAP. The 420 HC steel is barely adequate for an EDC pocket knife and is a very common steel in lower priced casual-use knives from other makers. It really is a lower grade steel that can only be hardened to RC55. It is a tough steel but isn't very hard and has low wear resistance. And with no full tang and a molded plastic handle, you might as well buy a Mora Companion made with better Swedish steel for $20.

What a great product. I just received my LMF II on 11/26/15, and haven't had the chance to put it to use yet. I purchased this to carry in/on my go bag. The knife comes sharp enough to shave the hair on the back of my hand, so be careful. It's well balanced and has a great feel in my large hands. I purchased this from one of the authorized on-line retailers and paid $68.

Great job Gerber on another fantastic product.

Excellent customer service. Highly recommend Gerber and their products. I am currently deployed to Afghanistan and even from here they were able to help me with an issue I had with this knife. They quickly mailed me a replacement part no questions asked.
Outstanding, Gerber!
Thank you.

i really liked it untill it broke off at the tip trying to open a car door like in the video. It was very sharp out of the box but the serrated part didn't hold its edge very long at all. It did cut rope and 550 paracord very well. Its a good knife but mine is useless now. Be careful with yours!!!

Great knife system. Carried one on my aviator survival vest for two tours in Afghanistan, and carry the civilian model in my pack whenever going into the wilds. I always have the LMF II in my butt pack which goes with me anytime I enter the woods or go off road in my Jeep. Light enough to carry as a primary survival knife, but incredibly durable. Has kept its edge through a lot of use, to include cutting up kindling for fires and cutting through some smaller brush while clearing a camp site. Highly recommend.

Great knife with great features. The sheath is probably one if the best features and has a nice built in sharpener. But you probably won't need to use it because this knife stays sharp for a while

I like this knife, its great sturdy and even though it's a little too Rambo for my taste it is good for what it is meant to be used for. As for the tang not being a full tang, this goes to MICHAEL, it is intended that way for when you have t do some "Tactical" electrical work, and not get electrocuted. Thus they say its insulated.

  • |BY: Michael , I Like It Better My Way!!

I bought the Gerber LMF Survival and as usual curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to know what was inside the handle. I took the rubber over-mold off the plastic under it and of course it wasn't full tang as expected. So I came up with a solution, I welded the butt and the blade together with my stick welder using a 1/8 inch 7018 welding rod at about 100 amps or so ,then took some hemp and wrapped the "full tang now" knife handle with it many times until I was satisfied with the new handle shape. Next I went to Wal-mart and purchased some Gorilla Glue and put it over the hemp"(be careful to cover the blade if you try this as it can mess the blade finish up). After the glue drys take a Dremel and sand to the desired shape and "presto" you have a full tang Gerber LMF with a really tuff handle. Now be aware if you do this it will no longer be insulated blade to handle from electric shock(and it will probably void the knives warranty), but for all you survival/bushcraft junkies that crave full tang it certainly is better! Other than that this knife is great and the steel is awesome. Also works great for batoning wood!! -Michael W

This is the perfect knife for airmen in the field that can rely to get out of a plane and survive with it no problem. In my experience, it performed greatly batoning wood and making feather sticks to start a fire. I would reccomend this knife to anyone!

Absolutely AWESOME knife. Worth every penny. The first time you hold it in your hand, you know its a quality knife. BEEFY full tang construction. I read about some Marines snipers using this knife to make a hold in a BRICK WALL to shoot through, and I dont doubt it for a second. You cannot break this knife, its an axe, a machete, and a pry bar all rolled into one sick knife. Awesome sheath, too, with a BUILT IN SHARPENER. USA made. Gerber is one of the best companies, period. Quality craftmanship, excellent customer support, and when they say "lifetime warantee", they mean it!! If you're considering buying this knife, STOP CONSIDERING and buy it already!!!!

I have owned this knife for over a year now. I am a hunter, minimalist backpacker, as well as law enforcement trained. When I go into the woods or anywhere for that matter, I have this knife with me. I have used it to break windows at vehicle accidents, chopping wood, and butchering elk. I have not had any major problems with this knife. When I need it, It WORKS!! From numerous activities the forward lugs on the handle did get cut and beat up, but I just took a lighter and heated the rubber and remolded it. I bought one for a family member to take on depoyment and now that he is back the knife is always near him. I would suggest this knife for anyone in military, law enforcement, or ourdoorsman. Thank You gerber.

This is the most awesome knife ever! I have used it nuemoures times hunting to chop wood and even make home made stake stir a ground blind. Just be careful not to beat up the handle when hammering. Having this knife in the woods is like having a machete, saw, and knife all in one.
I love this knife!!!
