Durable, fast to deploy, and rugged. This knife is a one-hand opening workhorse with a S30V tanto blade that can cut through anything; the black oxide coating and G-10 handle minimize slip to keep you safe in critical conditions.
An automatic knife needs to do many things well and a few things exceptionally – deploy consistently fast, be constructed to withstand daily abuse, and feel intuitively comfortable in hand. When Gerber set out to design the Propel, the process was peppered with critical feedback from military and law enforcement personnel – this wasn’t meant to be just another automatic knife.
The Propel was tasked with answering the needs of some of the most demanding, abusive, and unpredictable environments the world has to offer – it had to answer the questions that weren’t yet asked. Because lives depended on it working – every time. One might think that sounds like a tall order, and one would be right. Yet, it is fulfilled with durable materials, smart design, and an unrelenting focus on the end user. In the end, it provides the unshakable confidence that can only come from carrying a knife you truly believe in.
gerber suspension, carried and used since 2005,, no problems no failures,, sheath finally wore out tho,, for me this has been a very handy small multi tool that fit my needs, if, IF i ever wear it out would get another one.
I had this knife before I lost it trying to buy another one I use this knife for work it was a great knife
I have had this knife almost a year now. Worked everything from construction to retail in that time. This knife is just as sturdy now as wen I first got it. Holds an edge. Takes an edge well. Very slim and light weight, yet fills the hand and is extremely sturdy.
Carried the covert auto (Applegate Fairbairn) for two years. Best knife ever. Slim, fit low in the pocket, and feels great in the hand. Buy two!
Bought one in black @ Smokey Mountain Knife Works in Sevierville, TN. No Credentials needed. Sales staff indicated Tennessee & 2 other states do not require credentials.
It was my favorite knife until it came up missing, now its out of stock!
Looking to get a sturdy knife for work. This looks like a great find, I just don't know the credentials or the price needed. Anyone know?
Thank you for the response, I actually already placed and received an order of a Propel Downrange auto in the 10 business days it took you to write me back. I can’t say that I’m happy though. The blade has a fair amount of side to side and even up and down play and the grind on the blade itself is uneven which I gather is the reason it’s not very sharp. The blade is also not centered in the scales when closed. If there is any way to remedy this, short of having to send the blade back to the states forcing me to be without a blade for a few weeks, please let me know.
Looks awesome. I would love one as an EDC, and work. What credentials are needed? I'd like to ask Santa for one this year.
Got this knife almost a year ago and posted a review. In that year, I've used it for everyday carry, as well as heavy field use (a bit of prying, box cutting, branch cutting, zipties, etc.) and it has continued to work as well as it did the first day. SSG Schmidt: they use you .mil email to verify your status and you'll see the price once you register.
I had the knife for a few months, it saw daily use at my job. Constantly cutting , slicing, and going through everything with ease. From cables and rope, to copper wires and harder plastics, nothing stopped it. Through everything I put it through it never dulled and I never had to sharpen it once, probably do to the S30V steel. The G-10 scales kept in my hands at all times, whether covered in water, mud, oil, or dust, never fell out. The two-system safety made me feel safe, and it entertained me as others tried to figure it out. The belt clip was pretty sturdy too, I'm not the most mindful guy so the knife definitely got caught a few times while sitting down.
I will be ordering a new one, maybe two, as soon as I can. I lost mine at an apartment complex in Ohio, and someone snagged it off the ground before I noticed it was gone. It's an amazing knife beyond anything else I have ever owned.
What credentials are required? What is the price of this knife? How can I order?
Great quality, solid, and light. Snaps open...much quicker than my Gerber 06, and handier for daily carry. Love this knife, but subtracted a star because it came dull. Nice bevel, but as if they skipped the final step to sharpen. An easy fix, and will buy again.
@ OTHRGUY...no gerber is not american all around...much of their stuff is chineses steel and chinese made
only the autos and a couple other models have s30v and are made in america a few have 154cm, but thats not the best anymore
Good quality knife, the Auto opening function is somewhat delayed though I compared it to the Assisted Opening Gerber Propel and the AO is actually faster to open. I am hoping over time it will open faster.
I just recently got this for my birthday, wroth the money, id say go for the tan one, better metal and the black one doesn't say if it was built in the us or not.
Just got mine today. As the previous review says, the video is a good representation of the color (more khaki than coyote). Good lockup, no blade wiggle. I like that the safety actually locks in place (unlike some of the other assisted open or auto knives), which gives me confidence the thing won't open in my pocket after heavy movement/running. looking forward to taking it into the field and really putting it through its paces.
Love the knife! Great size and weight. Solid feel. Smooth operation in a simple design. I like the color (the video is a much better representation of the true color). Well done Gerber!
It says "Designed and built in Portland, Oregon" in description. Gerber is American all around, bud.
Great knife. Gerber should really consider producing a version with a drop point. So far, everyone I've spoke to would consider the Propel with a drop point. Great selling potential...
Was this really "built in America" or was actually "designed in America" but built overseas?
The knife is very nice. Mechanically, no different from the other Gerber autos. The size is perfect, not to small like the applegate, not as big as the mil issue. The color was much lighter then it looks, but it is growing on me. do over, I'd wait for the black.
