Fully automatic and ready for anything, this knife has a premium design that sets it apart. With a corrosion resistant S30V steel tanto blade anchored by a oversize blade release button, a striking pommel, and a lanyard hole - you are never unprepared.
When our men and women overseas speak, we listen. The Gerber 06 Automatic features an over-sized release button for use with gloves, a slide safety that engages in both the open and closed positions, a stainless steel pommel with a strike point and a lanyard hole compatible with 550 cord, a partially serrated edge, and a contoured aluminum handle for a secure grip whether your working with blade or the handle. The stainless steel blade is made using S30V, a premium stainless steel that stands up to incredible abuse while holding its edge like no other. Available only to military and public safety personnel.
It was ok, it didn't help bring Johnny back.....but it sure made heck of a cord cutter.
I bought one before my last deployment when I was in the service and loved it. Never had any functional problems with it. Only issue that ever came up with the clip but I loved it and used the hell out of it until It was stolen out of my bag down range. Now just trying to get another one since I'm no longer in, is a pain in the butt itself.
Pros: Good steel, easy to sharpen with good edge retention. Lock up is solid. Safety and button well designed to keep debris out.
Cons: The clip is awful. The screws are made of soft steel, maybe aluminum. The clip itself is made of super soft metal that bends VERY easily. Gerber, we know you can do better than that.
Knife is great, but that clip needs work. A big knife like this needs a good, solid clip.
Like a short machete that opens in a blink. IF I ever lose it I would replace it.
Only issue I had was a broken pocket clip...
So far its a very nice knife, came in handy a few times
I love this knife, to bad it couldn't hold up to the training I went through. The one I have was given to me by one of my Sgt. It had more time and grade than me and the screws that held the clip broke off. I love the blade, just wish the rest was just as strong. Now I just have it Jerry Rigged to my boot. I think it's time for a new one and time to retire the old one.
I have several of these that survived a fire in Afghanistan in 2010, along with a few Benchmade Presidio switchblades. Immediately the Gerbers set themselves apart. The Benchmade had lost a key plastic spacer along the spine and the locking mechanism. The Gerber, all steel, still had all parts, to include a working lock. I work heavy construction, and have used this knife for everything from cutting to prying with zero issues (the Benchmade tip chipped off after minor priying.) The only downside is that it will not hold a razor edge for long, but it will remain sharp enough to cut rope for years. I Reccomend this knife to anyone who needs a durable knife.
I just got this knife while downrange Afghanistan. I brought a few knives with me, but none compare to the overall ease-of use and strength of this knife. Came out of the box with an excellent sharp edge on it, and a straight-forward Gerber belt-pouch I've only had it for a little while, but I can already tell that this blade is going to hold up for a very long time to come. I also like the weight of the blade, and the actual size of the grip.
A great knife, thank you Gerber.
Bought this knive when if first came out, after over 4 years just had my first issue with the knive (Spring broke) thats pretty good in my books. this is one of my favotie knives out of all my collection, would recommend this to any soldier.
This knive is best for combat and a great serviVal tool.
When quality went in the crapper. Was issued this for OEF, and was less than thrilled. But after using it for the past year, this is a GREAT knife! Solid construction, great S30V steel, ergonomic and well-thought-out design. Really like the big, detent safety; Benchmade's feel like they belong a one of the cheap Chinese autos you get in the bazaar...keep building knives like this one, and you'll have an old customer back!
These knives are pretty good at first but the auto spring weakens quickly. Spend the extra money for a benchmade next time.
I own a total of four of these. (See my detailed review in the Drop Point, Serrated version of this knife) Thinking of getting my deployed one engraved for posterity.
Great knife, keeps a good blade edge, and is easy to resharpen, very easy to use with a gloved hand. Only complaint is that it needs a window break on the bottom instead of a strike point
Love this knife. it's extremely sharp and easily resharpened. Cuts thru objects like butter. I carry mine all the time. Solid knife. Out of all my knives this is the favorite. Great job Gerber. Keep up the good work.
Used, dropped, rained on, sand enveloped, cleaned, repeat, used, bloodied, some other stuff. Very, very sharp and with knife knowledge very easy to resharpen.
The downside is if you are issued this for deployment and expect quick opening with the push b
Very smooth opening. Quiet alittle big and bulkey. Very Well Made. Great places to fine them around Miltary Bases. Carefull she is very sharp.
