I got this knife 5 years ago for my 31st birthday from my dad, it rode my side thru thick and thin. It cleaned fish, deer, rabbit, squirrel when my wife and I were broke and living off the land.it stayed razor sharp with TLC. It broke my heart when it got lost on the trail. I hope it has a good home now. its been two years now and ill never stop thinking about it. This is a good blade
Got this knife about a year ago and took it with me to combat. The nylon sheath sucks big time. I had it replaced with leather. The knife itself is excellent, took some real beatings
GREAT KNFE! BOUGHT IT AWHILE AGO AND USE IT ALOT
Got one of these in trade the other day, and I need a sheath for it. It's handy now, but will be a lot better after I have a way to carry it.
This is hands down the best survival knife for the price. i have taken it out on over 20 survival outings and it holds up very well and does not dull quickly. it chops wood, cuts string like a hot knife on butter. the sheath could be a little bit better quality but overall this knife is a beast!! BUY THIS KNIFE EVERYONE! 25$ IS QUITE CHEAP :)
I have had this knife for about a year now and it is perfect! the only thing is that the shealth sucks!! but i would recommend this knife anytime!
Very good knife and sort of easy to paracord wrap. wish they would make a series to do so.
i lost this knife in a field it was rained on snowed on and when spring came around drove on by a tracker. when i finally found it, there was no rust no chips and still sharp. me and my buddies all have one and we've come to calling it "ole reliable". i dont normally choose gerber over other companies but they did something better with the profile. if i were to recommend something, get a kydex sheath stock one wear out when its sliding back and forth on your belt.
I might get this knife. All of my friends recommend this to me and I used this same one that i borrowed so i could carve the wrest of my Bow
Great knife wish the sheath was a little better.
It is one of the best knives I have ever owned. It is true what the reviews say about the sheath, but don't let that stop you from getting this knife. Excellent control and grip. Great weight, size, and çan keep an nice sharp edge. Im not a salesman for Gerber, I'm just. a guy who likes to give good reviews for good knives. In this case, a excellent knife.
As an outdoor education leader proper gear is an essential part of the job. Having the right knife is crucial. I own and have tried dozens of the gerber products and have always been very very satisfied. This knife is another perfect example of what a great company like gerber can do; an effective, well balanced, and (most importantly) durable knife that can tough many situations. And for that it isn't hard to give this tool 5 stars.
I have had this knife for a couple of mouths now and everyday I use it and it is still looks, feels, and acts like new!
I hav'nt opened it yet but i read LOTS of comments and i can either win this better knife i found on ebay or lose and keep this one.i will be happy either way.
this i a awsome knife it works great its simple and durable
I HAVE OWNED THIS KNIFE FOR AWHILE AND I FIND IT TO BE A GOOD KNIFE AND I USED FOLDING KNVES BUT THE FIXED BLADE IS THE BEST IT REALLY IS A GOOD KNIFE
I have used many Gerber knives in the last year alone. This year I used the "Bear Grylls Survival Knife (W/Sheath), Paraframe II, Bear Grylls Scout, A Gerber Tactical Folding Knife (W/ F.A.S.T. Blade opening), and last but not least, The Gerber "Profile". Out of all of these knives.. only a few stood out as my favorite blades by Gerber I have ever personally owned. The others were not so good. Out of the knives I just listed the only 2 that I liked were the "Profile" and the "Bear Grylls Survival Knife". I was surprised I would fall in love with these blades because I am not much of a fixed blade person. I LOOOOOVE folders. In fact I HATED and yes, I mean HATEDDD, the Scout. It felt VERY cheap. The paraframe II was SOOOOOO annoying to open and the belt clip was in the way. The tactical knife was dropped and the blade broke off the handle. I almost gave up hope with Gerber. Then I bought the survival knife. AMAZING! It had its flaws.. but it was amazing. So I went and bought this knife (The Profile) ANNNNND fell in love. It was the sleek simple design that caught my eye. It looked sturdy, grippy and VERY sharp. When I opened it.. it was VERY sharp out the box! VERY! The feel of the handle, the weight of the knife overall, was outstanding compared to the gerber knives I have had in the past. This knife is PERFECT for casual use, Hunting (I've actually used this PLENTY OF TIMES and never failed me once) and This knife comes with a Nylon Sheath as described in the description. GREAT KNIFE! GREAT BUY! BUT HERE IS A WARNING TO YOU ALL! GERBER MAKES BETTER FIXED BLADES THAN FOLDERS... JUST BE CAREFUL WHAT FOLDER YOU ARE BUYING. YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE IT..
Love the knife. Very comfortable in the hands. But the sheath could use some work. It's loose and not as durable as I would have expected for the price.
I BOUGHT THIS KNIFE TWO YEARS AGO OR THREE THE BEST KNIFE YOU CAN HAVE THE BEST
best knife useful as hell
I really like the the knife. But the sheath is the cheapest junk I've ever seen. Knife falls out all the time. Last week i was moving through the brush and about 20 yards in i noticed the knife had fallen out again. I took out the buck folder i always carry in my pocket and cut the sheath off my belt. when i got into my stand I realized I hadn't even considered going back to look for it. I Can't carry the knife on my belt it is useless.
I purchased this knife just before hunting season and used it in the field all the way to cleaning and processing my deer. Still giving it a five start rating although I had to sharpen the knife a few times after minimal use.
I have owned several of these, not from breaking or wearing out, but from giving away and replacing it. I know soldiers with $80+ Sog and K-Bar knives, and this was far better. Only gripe is the sheath wears out quickly
I've been using this model since 1995 for doing paleontology of all things. Absolutely love it for digging out fossils in softer sediments. Good balance & the rubber handle means I can use it day in & day out as a digging tool without hurting my hand! We just bought another 20 for new people in our company - Love this knife!
I got one about a year ago and its amazing For 20 bucks its well in the class of a 100$ or more knifes. it feels nice in your hand and no slipping. Im a Die Hard Gerber fan after in joying this wonderful tool.
This Gerber knife is one of the true Gerber knives that is a true FULL TANG!
i bought this knife at wal-mart march of 2010 and it has been my favorate knife yet! it did not have the sharp edge i wanted and dulled quickly, but i was able to put an edge on it rather well and with the angle i gave it, it holds an edge well! it is great when using a batton for splitting small wood. also, i am able to hold it with my two front fingers and use it to chop through branches. i have been able to chop though 3" limbs before! awesome knife! highly recommend this knife!
great design, balance&feel in hand. handles are great in wet conditions. i do wish it came with a little better shealth. i like this knife so well for the money that i purchased two of them.
You can spend next month's rent on a really nice fixed blade that you'll be afraid to use/abuse. For the same price, you could get a box Gerber PROFILE knives and literally beat them like a rented mule every day and not feel guilty. Bonus: the knife will take it. This is a great tool. Not a show piece, and not a scalpel. It's a freakin' tool. It does what it's made to do, and very well, too! I always clean a new gun before use, and I always sharpen a new knife before use...do that with this beauty and you will have a dependable sidekick.
Just wish it had serration on part of the blade. But for the price this is a nice knife and holds edge very well. But needs better steel. The handle is ok but is still non slip design so it is better then most with wood or plastic or carbon fiber handles.
Best knife for the price!
i like the handle it never slips out of my hand its perfect for farm work.if the shealth was leather it would be perfect
I got this as a gift. The size and weight are perfect. The grip is a good one how ever I wraped it in 550 cord. It improves the grip and is convinient way to carry a few feet of cord. It was sharp out of the box and it takes an edge very well. The knife is tough and durable, its a full tang I have cut every thing from rope to food with this thing. It has been used to produce wood for making fires I have beat on the blade to split wood and it is still as good today as it was two years ago. I highly recomend it. ( For cord wrapping instructions go to www.m4040.com)
I like the grip but the curve of the handle is a little to short and I am having trouble getting it sharp. It came rather dull out of the box. I am not impressed with 4Cr14MOV. I like the shape a lot, the wide grip, the styling, & the weight. I just wish it was made out of some better steel.
i have taken this knife out on at least 23 survival excursions and it has never failed me. It came out of the box sharp, and keeps an edge rather well. It is comfortable and extremely durable.
Great value for money. Handle is just a few mm to short for comfortable hold (pinky lands on the tip of ending curve). Anyway, it's a good buy.
After an extended weekend of camping, my cheap tent stakes bent when trying to get them into the cold frozen ground. So I had to make my own with this knife. I also used it to process firewood from dried hard spruce trees. The end result was that the knife held an edge very well, but the found the steel itself to be weak and found multiple chips in the blade. It's still fit for camp use, however.
Great knife! Had mine for over a year, its my camp knife, so it takes abuse. Keeps a great edge too! Love the grips, stays in your hand even with the handle wet! Thats why i keep buying GERBER!
epic strong and durable knife and have no objections except the sheath, a kydex or any other would be very suitable, a lot of knife for a cheap price but little sheath and there should be a better sheath to hold the better knife like the LMF II OR SOMETHING.
good knife feels good in the hand and keeps a good edge...i also just ordered the Gerber LMF II cant wait to get it...nothing against this knife i just wanted something with a little bit bigger of a blade. Thanks Gerber!
I got tired of seeing this knive in the store, and I finally got one, and wow... nice weight, handle fit perfect in your hand, the blade in not a razor but will cut anything you want. Thanks Gerber!
This is by far the best knife i've ever owned.
I have had this knife for over a year now and it has never let me down its easy to sharpen easy to use and is extremely durable. my only complaint is the sheath
thing i really like about this knife is the thick stiff blade on it...wish it had a better edge but for the price its a good knife....i have rebalanced this knife and use it for everything including self defense and throwing....i do have a problem with the sheath...after a while of use the piece w/ the button that holds the knife in the sheath has now come apart and become useless but other than that i dont really have anything bad to say about this knife
I own over fifty knives including the Gerber LMF II. The Profile is one of my favorites. I'm having a custom sheath made at a local shop. I love this knife.
This knife is a really good buy!! I use it for everything when working and I have had no problems. Gerber really needs to think about selling a hard sheath for this though. Mine is about worn out and need to find something else to replace it. 5 stars for the knife but have to give it a 4 because of the sheath.
Once again,Gerber delivers quality and low price in one package.I would prefer to have seen a different style sheath but hey,I'm not using the sheath to work with,Blade is nice and for me,the ergonomics aren't bad for a $25.00 knife..you could do a whole lot worse for a whole lot more money.I just hope that the merger with Fiskars won't jeopardize Gerber's reputation.I know Fiskars used to be a well made brand of scissors ect., but I have seen a fair share of failures in the past years with Fiskars products.I just hope Gerber doesn't fall victim to this as well.
Best MRE opener I've owned.
this was my first fixed blade knife and i love it i do wish it had a hardshell shealth with it just because i perfer them more but all around good knife
Skinned dozens of deer used it for years no issues with the handle or sheath. Some people just want to complain.
I don't see what the other guys are complaining about with the sheath or the grips. I bought my first one about 3-4 years ago, I think, and I had it for a while. I wound up giving it to a friend of mine because she lived in a bad part of town where her
great blade poor handle i ended up pulling the rubber handle and plastic pices off and redoing the handle with 550 cord then the shealth sucked knife cut straght throught it but it a great knife for the money i now own 6 of them as throwing knifes
knife is great had alot of gerbers ,the sheath is poorly made, but for the money you can make or buy better sheath.
great knife sheath fell apart the first month
I purchased this knife and am pleased with the blade, but the handle is very uncomfortable for any extended period of use. The rubberized handle is not flush with the metal portion. Poorly thought out in this regard.
I was looking for a fixed blade knife for eveyday use that didnt fail. Thank you Gerber, awesome quality for an nice price,
I got this knife as a gift from my uncle as a gift for being an usher at his wedding. I am only 13 but I can assure you, this is a beautiful knife!
I was looking for a good basic bushcraft knife. I happened to see one of these in a store and I was impressed . It's a solid , strong blade , and fits my needs very well. I did a minimal amount fo sharpening , and have been very impressed with the edge.
I equate quality with Gerber. I purchased this knife and I was more than disappointed on the edge that had been put on this blade. It has roughly a 50 degree compound bevel; 30+ on one side and 20 on the other. That may be okay with some people but I pref
