I bought my first Gerber Gator back in the late 1980's. I loved that knife and would still have it, but I lost it on a Combat parachute jump into Grenada. I got hung up on the outside of the aircraft. I cut my static line so I could get free of the aircraft. I dropped it and couldn't look for it when I landed. It saved my life.

Best knife I've ever used. Outstanding grip, I work in all types of conditions from mud to freezing cold ice, and rain. I've had my Gator for 5 years and have never been happier. Reliable is the best feeling of having it!!! PLEASE, NEVER DISCONTINUE IT!!!!!!!!!!

I bought the Gator 2 mostly because of (a) solid performance of Gator 1 (b) Reviews on Amazon.com which is where I bought mine for $19.99 It came with a solid sheath with a hidden pocket inside! I will take this knife to Afghanistan in a few months. I have no doubt it will perform better than I expect!
