5 Brofessional Shawn Dreyfuss - NOV 6, 2014

Just came to this sight to order a new one because I just lost my last one at lunch. I am the ad-hock tech guy and mr. handy at small company that employs me and you would not believe how much use this thing gets from an average joe like me. for 7 buckaroos you cant go wrong. Whoever though this up, give that man a cookie.

Cool tool. Can you verify it is TSA compliant so I can fly with it?

4 student Echo - APR 7, 2014

Bottle opener is a little rickety and crosshead a little small, but everything else is great. The Shard is about 2 dollars cheaper at amazon.com I am pleased overall.

Great Little Tool!

5 Your Title Amazing - DEC 10, 2013

Compared to former Gerber gear I've owned, this tool has perhaps the most convenience for its size.

4 Navy Chief Petty Officer Al McMullen - NOV 30, 2013

Have one on my keyring and have found it to be useful for some small tasks. Proved very useful. Will possibly purchase some for Xmas gifts.

3 Nice. But, 7? M. Barker - OCT 30, 2013

Gerber is definitely not alone when it comes to dubious claims of multi-functionality. Please someone, illustrate how "lanyard hole" is a function and not a feature. Gerber: you have a stand-up reputation for putting out great products, you are better than cheap marketing tricks. You want to keep that superstitious 7 without radical redesign? Make that lanyard hole a 1/4" hex driver

5 Nailed it, almost Dan - SEP 13, 2013

Best piece of steel next to a good knife. I carry it everywhere. I wish it had a wrench option instead of a lanyard hole.

3 Decent Paul - SEP 10, 2013

Because of the curve the bottle opener is a bit hard to use, it tends to slip sideways. For the price and other features though, its not a bad buy.

4 A Handy Little Thing Richard - JUN 22, 2013

Useful for whenever you need a strong piece of metal to do the dirty work that you wouldn't do with your knife. Scraping, wedging, pulling staples out, and impromptu cutting are just a few things this little guy can do.

5 Your Title Tom O'Brien - JUN 3, 2013

Great tool to have, given the limitation of today's air travel carry omboard restrictions.

5 Great! davecameron81@yahoo.com - FEB 21, 2013

The Shard has been a great little quick access tool. For its size it has a nice weight an feel to it. Not sure why so many people want to think of it as a miracle tool, it is what it is and its fantastic! If your looking for something a little larger, go with the Artifact.

5 The WARDen Jim - FEB 20, 2013

Pretty nifty tool. Guy in the office had one and talked everyone else into buying one. He quit soon after. I think he must have made enough to retire by selling them to us.

5 Everyday Guy Jacob - JAN 29, 2013

I agree that making a solid titanium version of this tool would be freaking sweet. Maybe even a model that was slightly larger for those who have larger fingers would be awesome. I'd be willing to fork out the extra cash for either one of those.

BUT personally I love this tool. It's the neatest little thing. I have it on my key-ring so it goes everywhere with me. The only I've noticed is that the titanium coating is rubbing metal off my keys because it sits flat against them. So I might have to get something to drop it off and away from my keys before it grinds them into dust lol. (That was a joke.)

2 Civilian Jlookn - JAN 5, 2013

Not what I expected, read the features wrong and thought that the bottle opener was a can opener. Had to purchase mine on Amazon since it took Gerber a WHILE to restock. Guess I will keep it since it was not that expensive.

5 Business Traveler George - NOV 24, 2012

I really think this is a great product. From the moment I saw it, I knew I had to own one. I have used it several times each week for a month now and it does NOT disappoint. Please make a version of this in solid titanium. Hey, I would be willing to pay $30 or more for one made of that metal! I just bought three more as gifts.

5 Volunteer Emergency Responder Shayan - NOV 7, 2012

I got one of these from a Heart Health event in downtown Portland, OR. The one that I bought doesn't have the Nitride coating, but it's still in PERFECT condition. I absolutely love it. I carry it with my everywhere I go on a carabiner. I've used this for so many different things, and everything on it works. I've used the two flathead drivers several times. I've used the pry bar to remove large staples and some nails from wood. I'd stripped wire, both single strand and multi-strand. I use the lanyard hole to attach it to my dual carabiner (it's in the shape of a yin-yang). I truly love this product and don't know what I would do without it. Since, I've purchased 4 more for my friends and family. The only thing I haven't really used is the cross(phillips) driver, but there hasn't been any need for it yet.
I wish you sold the un-coated version online...

5 Great tool Heath - OCT 11, 2012

This tool has surprised me a lot, the Phillips driver works really good in a pinch and so do the flatheads. The coating is holding up better than I thought it would with just a little bare metal showing wear the key ring is after 6 months.

4 ER Nurse Chris - SEP 29, 2012

I picked one up at the Gerber display at the Association of the US Army convention in DC this year. I absolutely love it. I keep it in my pocket at work in a very busy trauma center and it keeps me from having a kife or multi tool that is obvious to the "psychos" and irate folks. Only downside is there are so many pointy edges that if I sit down wrong I know exactly which pocket it is in and which way it is lying. I could keep it on my keys but then it wouldn't be of use in the ER. Overall a wonderful tool. Thanks

5 No on canned food... Pop - SEP 22, 2012

Jeremy, beer is necessary to survival, hence the bottle opener.

3 Bottle Opener + Hunter - AUG 27, 2012

Not impressed with the coating - it was wearing off noticeably after only a couple hours on my key ring. But if nothing else, useful to have a sturdy bottle opener that lays flat with keys.

1 Gerber Customer Jeremy - AUG 25, 2012

It needs a can opener instead of a bottle opener.. A can opener is an essential survival tool. A bottle opener is not an essential survival tool. It's not just Gerber. Most small multi-tools lack a can opener but instead have a bottle opener such as the small leatherman tools. It just doesn't make sense to me.

5 Owner Phil - AUG 7, 2012

I just got my Shard. Wow, I was really impressed with the size and sturdiness of the tool. Nice and small, very compact, obviously going to be very useful. All my friends I showed it to were impressed at first sight of it, they obviously wanted one. I tried it for all its uses and was stunned how well it all worked, minus the flathead bits, which seem rather unwieldly. A nice addition would be to notch out size measurements on it to take quick small measurements. I might just do that with an engraver.

4 Neat tool M.A.D.S. - JUL 22, 2012

The "flathead" screwdriver heads are too thick to be very useful, but the pry bar is neat, the bottle opener is good, and the cross driver head works better than expected. At this price point, and considering that it's "airline safe," I think it's a good deal. Glad to have it on my keychain--

5 Must have wondertool Omri B - JUL 12, 2012

This tool was an amazing addition to my everyday on-person items list. It's so small and lightweight that I'm barely reminded of its presence. Out of the 4-6 months that I've had my shard, there have been countless times that I've used it. Mostly for the wire stripper, bottle opener, and the cross head screwdriver. Thank god this thing is airplane safe, I've taken it multiple times on my person on inter-, and transcontinental flights.

5 Must have everyday carry Charles L - MAY 24, 2012

Small and unobtrusive, its the perfect key chain accessory. My only regret is not having bought this sooner. Today it is fast becoming an indispensable companion.

5 Excellent Idea Kaeromeous - MAR 21, 2012

I hate having useless keychain fobs, but need something that's easy to find. What better than a tool!
The only improvement that I can think of would be a one-bevel grind in the scoop of the bottle opener. This would be perfect for cutting twine and a myriad of other odd jobs.
I think it would still keep it airport friendly as it would recessed and exposed.

5 Senior Claims Representative Scott Graves - MAR 15, 2012

I purchased 90 of these tools this week! I wear one on my hip and gave one to every catastrophe rep in our entire company. We had tornadoes rip through our state and we needed an easy access tool to do just about anything. I guarantee we found a LOT more than 7 uses for it. P.S. When this is all over I intend to use it to repair divits on the greens in St. Augustine!!

5 Great Buy Omri - FEB 13, 2012

The Gerber Shard has lasted me about a month or so now, and it hasn't let me down yet. I would highly recommend this product if you work with electronics or just want to have a mini multi tool at hand. Besides the screwdrivers might be hard to use in tighter spaces, this is perfect. It is actually Airline Safe, when walking through security at McCarren Airport in Las Vegas, there were no problems whatsoever.

5 IT Pro, Camper Chirstopher - FEB 4, 2012

For about the same price as my old bottle opener key chain that broke off and is lost, this also has screwdrivers and can be used to strip wires. The flathead screwdrivers aren't bad (but a can be a little awkward to use in a tight area) and i was very surprised how well the philips screwdriver works. It's very sturdy, there is no way that this will break off of my keychain leaving me high and dry and unable to open a bottle.

5 nice compact tool hunter - DEC 28, 2011

The Gerber Shard is great because it packs seven tools into one small piece of metal. Plus, no blades so no need to worry about security confiscating it at the airport. Great job, Gerber!

5 USARMY SFC37F - DEC 21, 2011

Love this little keychain tool! I carry this on my keychain. Fixed a doorknob with it. Opened a few bottles. Used it as a box opener. Love it! It seems to be modeled after Atwood's pocket tool but costs a fraction of the price! Maybe Gerber will make more keychain tools...
