STL 2.5, Drop Point, Fine Edge

One of Gerber’s many impressive innovations in knife engineering and construction is the STL 2.5 drop point fine edge folder. This rugged little featherweight folding knife can accompany its owner almost anywhere without causing interference.

RUGGED STEEL HANDLE
Elegant steel composes the ultra-lightweight handle of this little knife. Weighing in at a scant 1.5 ounces, it somehow manages to contain an agile 2.6- inch stainless steel fine edge blade within its tiny yet solid frame lock construction. The half-arc grooves stamped into the lower edges on each side of the handle offer the holder steady purchase with thumb and index finger while deploying the knife one-handed using the thumb hole in the blade. Frame locking prevents the blade from closure during use for safety.

A CAPABLE EDGE
Slice open box tape, cut rope, even whittle with the STL 2.5 folder’s fine edge blade. Its tidy structure makes cleaning the blade effortless. The fine edge of the blade allows for rapid and easy sharpening, regardless of location. A small lanyard hole provides optional tie-down and additional security for this reliable knife.

5 Soldier - LTC Bizywk - DEC 9, 2013

I love this knife and take it wherever I go. Its a great took to keep handy as a soldier. I've bought about a dozen of these as it's the only knife for me when in garrison. I've lost a few and made few folks happy when I give them mine.

Its small, thin and strong as an ox. A great general purpose knife. I have a problem keeping an edge on them, but other than that, you cant go wrong with this one.

I carry this knife everywhere I go, and while it may not be large enough to act as a good defense knife in a fight, it does its job as a general tool. The back of the blade is curved enough to act as a flat-head screwdriver and it's small enough to conceal almost anywhere.
I didn't like how skinny the handle is, as it makes it hard to use with gloves and doesn't work well with my large hands. It's curved enough that you can overcome the size factor and actually get leverage, however it requires a bit of practice to find that spot where it sits well in your hand.
The edge is easily sharpened and rarely goes dull from use or carry.
An excellent little knife to carry around and you hardly even know it's there.

4 great, but needs a clip tp - OCT 15, 2013

this is my favorite knife, of any i've had. very light and small, you barely notice you have it, but its still big enough to be useful for anything i need it for. it stays decently sharp too. i've seen complaints about the finish scratching, but who seriously cares? i've had had the hinge loosen up, but it's easy to tighten, so again, who cares?

my only complaint is that it has no clip. i'm on m second one. i lost the first because it kept falling out of my pocket. i liked it so much though that i got another one, and made a clip out of high carbon steel wire.

Disappointed and not impressed.

Although it's attractive and a nice size, it's difficult to use. Difficult and cumbersome to open with one hand, if not impossible. It's very slippery with the smooth sides let alone if it was a little wet.

When closed the blade is nicely protected and not capable opening accidently. When open it has a secure lock but forget about ease of closing. It takes two hands. The lock is my biggest issue. Takes quite a bit of effort using your fingertips and nails which get painful after a few times. Stop using this type of lock.

Gerber: in my opinion if you make it a fraction thicker with better side grip and put a normal lock on the knife, It will be perfect.

Until then I'm buying returning this one and getting something else.

Gave this to my son for his birthday. Went through the wash folded in his shorts and found half the blade had broken off. Not impressed with durability.

Easy to use, lightweight, and thin. Scratches easy, but if taken care of properly it lasts and lasts. Sharpness didnt last long, but knives are able to be sharpened! I like mine just fine. Fits just about anywhere without anyone knowing. Good quality!

Found this while out walking today, brought it home and cleaned it nice, put some 3 in 1 on it and gave it a nice edge. I like it :)

Nice size, not bulky. Anodizing is very soft, marred and scratched just from being in a pocket with keys. I expected more resilient, higher quality material.

Not sure how the guy above managed to break this during 'normal' use, or failed at sharpening it, possibly he put a 15 degree or less edge on it when 25-30 is more the ideal angle for this knife. I use this for when I must go to meetings or any time I am required to dress up, its small, light, thin, sleek looking and performs well under normal use. I wouldnt consider this knife as an everyday pocket folder, but for the occasions that i may not want a larger bulkier knife, this one is great. Also, not sure about the whole bit about it being a womans knife, can a knife be male or female? at the end of the day, if the thing in ur hand is doing what a knife is supposed to do, than all is good.

2 dont buy for your woman mac - JUN 25, 2012

i bought this thinking it would be a good knife for my girlfreind i am a knife collector and a big fan of gerber products but i do not belive that they should advertise this as a womans knife because i being a full grown man have a very difficult time operating the extreamly resistant frame lock my knife came with and there is no way my girlfreind can saftly disengage the lock so thumbs down on that

Handy and useful. Equipement I'm satisfied with.

5 IT Professional Joshua - DEC 27, 2011

Received this for Christmas and through light use so far, it has performed nicely.

Not sure what the above guy was doing, but it was used all Christmas day to open presents, and cut through bindings on toys and whatnot. Here at work, it opens packages just fine, It fits great with a small footprint on my keychain, for easy access, and no inconvenience.

An absolute load of rubbish! Wouldn't hold an edge and snapped during normal use.
