is this knife illegal in canada?

3 good knife overall Javelin84 - AUG 25, 2014

I have had this knife for 1 yr 6 months as my edc. I use it at work (warehouse) and at home for just about everything. Good strong blade though it needs to be sharpened often. The FAST spring just recently broke. Only downside. Good knife overall.

5 ret. leo.,beekeeper, canoe builder will F. - JUN 28, 2014

I bought this knife in '05/'06 and was greatly pleased. Had it stolen. My local dealer didn't have any so I went to e-bay and bid on 4 / and won three. One is now again an every day carry the other two are in survival/ bugout bags.
On my original knife I did have two screws come loose- but a dab of the wife's fingernail polish on each screws thread fixed that. Like any good tool or weapon the knife should be disassembled and cleaned occasionally.
All-n-all the Gerber F.A.S.T. has been the best pocket knife I have ever owned. Never get dressed without putting it in my pocket- NEVER!
Thanks GERBER +++++

5 heavy equipment mechanic gdscowboy - OCT 26, 2013

This is a great knife. The FADT action is awesome. It is hard to find a pocket clip knife with a lock on it... this has it!

5 Great Knife Cheeto - OCT 22, 2013

I bought this knife right before going to Afghanistan in 2010. It's the best knife I've ever owned and I've been carrying it daily since I've been back in the US. I've used it for pretty much everything and it always holds a good edge and I've never so much as chipped the blade. I'll definitely be buying Gerber again if I ever lose/break this one.

5 plumber tom - OCT 22, 2013

my kids got this for me 5 years ago, this is my everyday knife!!in june i went to a concert, and the venue would not let me bring it in , so i walked to a near by tavern, the bar keeper held on to for me,til the show was over!!not just for the sentimental value, but its a GERBER ; I JUST LOVE IT, holds up in the trades

5 Handy Dave - OCT 21, 2013

Assisted opening, one hand operation, clips on the pocket for ready access anytime. The choice knife for on the job.

5 Your Title Webs - OCT 18, 2013

5 Retired Old Goat John Bo - OCT 15, 2013

I have had this knife for a few years I am well please with it I am well pleased with Gerber' I have had Gerbers for over 30 years, while on duty as a law enforcement officer and also after I retired.

5 Fricken' Awesome Adam - OCT 6, 2013

This knife i really good! I love having the spring in it. I just wish that it came in stealth black.

3 Boken spring/lock Antonio Castillo - SEP 27, 2013

Hello Gerber! I have carried this knife as my edc blade for about two months now. Today, when I moved the saftey switch to "fire" the blade didn't fly out and it couldn't lock into place. Basically, the lock, along with the spring are broken because the blade had a whole lot of up and down blade-play. When I folded the blade back into the hilt and moved the saftey switch to "lock" it locked. But when the blade is out, it does not lock into place at all, and it doesn't fly out via the FAST technology. Now, I will try to contact Gerber to get my knife fixed.

5 Army Matthew - SEP 22, 2013

I bought this knife about 5 months ago, and I have to say that it's probably one of the best I've ever owned. spring action is strong and reliable, size is sufficient for many tasks. No downsides that come to mind! truly worth buying. Should be worth a bit more though!!!

1 Cashier Can't believe Gerber made this trash - SEP 8, 2013

I am NEVER buying another one of these, the one I got less than a year ago just stopped locking in place, upon pulling it apart I find less than 5 tiny dog hairs that have got in the internal parts by the lock switch and very little debris(dirt particles) but that was all it took and my knife would no longer lock in place, this is on top of the fact that like someone else on here pointed out the clip broke in the first few days of owning this knife.

1 warehouse worker Alexander - SEP 6, 2013

I broke the clip within 6 months and the knife is less than a year old and it accumulated debris inside and stop locking in place. I am very upset by this, I have never paid more than 20$ before for a knife and all of those lasted a helluva lot longer than this piece of crap!

5 Damn good knife Loftus - AUG 7, 2013

I've been carrying on of these on me for the past 5 years everyday. It's needed to be resharpened a few times, but that is it. Thanks, Gerber.

5 legit Jack - AUG 5, 2013

Im a boy scout and two of my friend had the knife. After checking out and borrowing there's countless times i finaly got one. Best thing I ever did

5 Great for boy scouts! Jason - AUG 5, 2013

When my son first joined Boy Scouts i bought him this knife, 4 years later he still loves it and would never let it go. The kids in his troop always try to trade him knifes or knives for it and he has never followed up on a deal for it. The knife is still in miraculous shape, even and all the times he has dropped it, cut with it or flipped the switch to open the blade. This is the knife for any Boy Scout. The Gerber Fast Draw is the knife to get!

5 good for fighting zombies X-ray - JUL 28, 2013

best knife i carry it every day

5 Collector Malachi - JUL 19, 2013

This blade started as an EDC blade when I was about 13 years old, and now 5 years later it is still holding on! I don't carry it very often anymore, but this Gerber Fast Draw gets a 5 star rating in my books because of its inexpensive price, quick opening mechanism, sturdy build, and again LOW price. Good job, Gerber on this one.

5 Mr Troy - JUL 10, 2013

I loved this knife, I did everything with it, it was my daily! Until someone stole it. I will be buying one in about 5 mins

5 Retired Old Goat John Bo - JUL 1, 2013

I like this knife very much. My first assisted knife. I like the ergonomics, the blade and scales. It is Fast (F.A.S.T)

5 Retired-Knife Collecter John Bo - JUN 16, 2013

I am well pleased with this knife and Gerbers service. The safety switch works fine.

5 Tyler Tyler - JUN 12, 2013

Great knife! l have had it for 2 1/2 years and have never had any problems with it! My clip broke once but Gerber sent me a new one for free.
Thanks and keep selling this knife

2 Back to Drawing Board James - APR 18, 2013

I bought the knife because I like the smaller knives. Came out of package sharp as ever. Was wanting another assisted opening but found this knife not to be assisted as I am used to. Still have to use two hands to get it to open. Once I get it started, the assistance goes in effect. Should not take two hands to open an assisted opening knife. Two stars only because of this issue.

5 Great knife but the police didnt think so Dan - FEB 21, 2013

Had knife for years never left the house with out it..but I am currently fighting a weapons charge in NJ as they consider this a switch blade. But as for the knife after I win the case I WILL be purchasing another one. Then probably moving out of this arm pit.

4 Retired-Knife Collecter John Bo - FEB 16, 2013

I like this knife very much. I had to send it back to Gerber. I think that the spring broke. I can not wait until I get it back. The knife was my EDC. I was so used to it. It is like new. It was the nitride version that Gerber does not produce anymore.

4 Reliable Gavin - FEB 15, 2013

Its great for EDC and will still stay sharp for a great while. But i use a professional sharpener. I have had multiple versions and all are great.

1 Disappointed John - FEB 8, 2013

Very disappointed, I received it as a christmas gift. Was okay for a week until the blade starts to wobble then the thumb stud flew off and thats an important part because thats what is used to open the knife and thats what keeps the blade from bending back , the serrations aren't very good not that i care for the serrations anyway. and it will not hold an edge.

5 GREAT FIND mike - JAN 21, 2013

5 Outdoorsman GREAT!! - DEC 22, 2012

Wonderful knife -- the best I have ever seen.
I have had it for 3 years and I love it. I bent the clip on the 21 of December 2012 it really was the end of the world! I found out that i could bend it back, though :) If you want an indestructible knife buy this guy!

my finiace bought me this knife and i wasnt used to one of these knifes but i got used two it and i love it now i carry it everywhere i live in the country and i use it for anything and everything keep up the great work gerber

2 Failed A1C Tylor Miranda - NOV 23, 2012

The knife failed and the blade now flops around on the swivel. Under regular use the blade wore quite quick. I used this blade to cut fruit, cardboard, to whittle sticks, to open light packages, and just general use. It seemed like a great blade, but a complete failure on the mechanism is dangerous and completely ridiculous. When the blade failed as I was attempting to whittle a very skinny stick to roast marshmallows, it jerked from my hand and stabbed me in the thumb so deep that the tip bent on my bone. It's too bad really, because I was enjoying the knife.

5 Repo-man Frank - SEP 26, 2012

I received this knife as a gift about 5 years ago. It works Great! I use it constantly for opening packages, and prying on things and such. Only issue I've had was I snapped the clip a couple months ago, but Gerber sent me a replacement clip no problem. Never opens accidentally, and never fails. I fell more confident doing my job knowing I have it in my pocket as a last ditch effort.

2 Prefer the AR 3.0 Mike McDonald - SEP 10, 2012

At a similar size, the AR 3.0 is pretty similar to the Fast Draw, except the AR is easier to open even without the F.A.S.T. mechanics. The blade seems to stick in the closed position, requiring quite a bit more force to open than the AR.

Style, design, and functionality when opened are great on the Draw but the sticky opening mechanism is annoying. I'll be taking it back to the store.

5 American Carpenter Tom Slatton - AUG 28, 2012

I purchased this model knife off the clearance aisle at the Nashville, Arkansas Wal Mart.. I had not owned a Gerber pocket knife since the original Bolt Action I purchased at a Hope, Arkansas sporting goods store back in 1983.

This by far is the best pocket quality pocket knife I have ever owned, the Bolt Action Gerber that I unfortunately lost being the next best.

I actually paid less ($21+ tax) for this model than I did the Bolt Action ($33+tax) 29 years ago.

Within a week of buying this particular knife on the clearance aisle, I noticed that they were back on the shelf in the Wal Mart sporting goods section for around $28. Wow, did I fell like I got a deal.

I just hope I never lose this one, because as I said, this is my favorite and best pocket knife I have ever owned.

5 great EDC knife Jason - AUG 27, 2012

I have had 2 of these knives in my EDC rotation for over 2yrs now and have had no problems ever with them. I like the slim design and ease of opening with the FAST system.

2 Lasted for a few weeks Tristan C. - AUG 25, 2012

I recieve this knife as a gift and was very happy at first. The blade was sturdy and it opened easily. After using this knife in water a screw an the handle slipped out. The screws holding the pocket clip in are loosening therefore making the pocket clip loose and unsturdy. I have had no troubles with the spring assembly so far but I am hoping the screw on the handle didnt strip out the threads.

1 Very disappointed with Gerber products lately James - AUG 19, 2012

Purchased this knife and had it for about a day, the clip snapped clean off and flew across the room when I tried to clip it on my belt, there must have been one tiny flaw in the steel. The mechanism does not feel to promising and sturdy. I returned it to the store and purchased a "Gerber instant" I have had it for 2 days now and some how 2 screws have fallen out of it or where never there in the first place. Not impressed at all

2 Not for leftys Price Goosby - AUG 18, 2012

I've used similar knives to this one in the past with great success, this however I couldn't even open from the second I got it out of the package. Eventually I realized the issue, I'm left handed, so my index finger would always end up pushing down on the safety making it nearly impossible to open. If you're a southpaw you'll want to stay away from this one. Th knife on its own is still very good but I had to return it since it's useless for me.

3 Poor quality Derrick H. - JUL 31, 2012

I bought this knife 5 years ago, and since then have had to send it back 4 times to be repaired. Three of the times it was due to the spring mechanism snapping, allowing for the blade to swing freely without locking. The last time was because the clip snapped off when it caught on the inside of a door (not very durable).
I have gotten replacements every time that I have sent my blade back, but they seem to be getting cheaper in quality. The first one I bought lasted the longest, and had the finger-tip open accessory on it, but I guess that they did away with this.
Loved the weight and size of this blade. Hated having to send it back for a new one. The best lifetime garauntee is one that you never have to use.

5 good knife so far jake - JUL 24, 2012

i got this knife yesterday and so far i like it though i haven't tested it i have played with it a little and the spring assist
is good so far but i hope its as good as people say if it is i will get a nother one when needed

5 A grat knive usefull four all situations... Peener McGinty - JUL 23, 2012

I made this purchase about a year ago and ever since, have been kicking ass and keeping the streets clean. ;)

5 Perfect Malachi - JUL 11, 2012

This is the perfect everyday knife. I have carried it everyday for a couple of years now, and I have had no problems. It even survived a house fire. Stays sharp well, and a great size to carry. Very accessible and practical for all purposes.

3 eh, okay josh - JUL 10, 2012

i had this knife for about two weeks it broke the springs stopped working. So i sent it back and got another. Again, broke T__T, i am not pleased with this knife it may have been the way i was operating it or just the knife itself

2 Nice design - Poor Steel SGB - JUL 4, 2012

Easy to carry, opens and closes easily with either hand. Sharpens easily and dulls FAST.

5 An amazing knife! Hiep - JUL 1, 2012

I really like this knife. It was affordable, and easy to open. I use it for everything! Especially when I go fishing. I have no complaints for it.

5 this knife rocks matt v - JUN 22, 2012

just got this knife about a week ago i love it great for everyday carry well worth the price!!!!!

5 Amazing Knife and Customer Servie! Connor Ross - JUN 21, 2012

I acquired an older one of these, and it had some problems (sticky lock/blade, etc.). I sent it to Gerber for evaluation, and they replaced it for no charge. I am very happy with my new knife, especially its assisted- opening function.

4 Great buy UncleDick - JUN 21, 2012

I initially bought this for my wife, she never used it so I took over. I love assistd open knives, and this one is fairly easy. It took a while to get used to the way th locking mechanism works, but I couldn't see myself using the traditional style lock after this knife. At first, the knife felt slippery due to the pattern in the plastic grip, but I've also grown quite accustomed to it. I love that this knifes locking mechanism keeps it safe in my pocket, but quickly deplorable. The metal pocket clip is perfect. Long enough to stay in my pocket, and it's in a great position for concealment, other than its metallic color, since the clip reaches almost the tip of the grip, so it sits well in my pocket. What also makes it great for day to day carrying, is that it's thin and light weight as well. I hate carrying things in my pocket, so it's slim profile makes it easy and unnoticeable. The way the clip is positioned also is a key factor for me. It hangs in my pocket upside down, so when I reach for it, there's less fumbling and flipping the knife 180 degrees before using, and more straightforward draw and deploy functionality.

My ONLY gripe, is that he center plastic piece that runs through the knife has started detaching itself from the sandwiching metal plates that give the knife structure and rigidity. Still stays together, but nonetheless, a concern that I will try addressing with warranty. Overall, amazing knife. Just wish it was still in stock at my local shop I got it at. Sad to see that the reviews for the pricier assisted opens gerber offers have been quite poor, was looking to upgrade but looks like I'll be sticking with this one for a while.

5 Your Title Ethan - JUN 6, 2012

I bought one in 2009 and still carry it. Best pocket knife I've ever owned. My only complaint is the screw for the pocket clip broke, and the clip came loose.

I will own one of these for as long as they make 'em. I love this knife.

5 Your Title Michael - JUN 5, 2012

I was given this knife by my daughters about a year ago for fathers day. It has been a great knife. Recently the handle seperated, the sping action quit & the safety lock to keep it open has quit. I am sending back for warranty in hopes that I can get another one.

5 Great knife for anyone!!! Boy Scout - JUN 1, 2012

This is the best knife I have ever seen! I am a boy scout and I have taken the knife on camping expeditions, high adventure and hiking trips. I have used /abused this extremely durable knife for any thing you can imagine between everyday tasks and hardcore work for almost 2 years. As I said this knife is a good knife for anyone. Thank You Gerber for such a durable tool.

5 4 years old and still kicking Jax - MAY 30, 2012

My grand father got this knife for me as a gift 4 years ago and it is still working without a single issue. I have used it for everything from skinning game to puncturing sheet metal. This knife is tough and still opens as fast as it did the first day i got it. It is a bit difficult to sharpen but once it has it holds the edge for a very long time. Best knife i've ever owned!

1 after 2 days wesley - MAY 29, 2012

after 2 days i found a crack where the blade meets the handle. i have sent a warranty form in today and a waiting for a reply. all the ones u see are a 5 star so it must be a good knife i must of gotten a bad one. hopes this helps
Wesley

5 Best knife ever! Nick - MAY 22, 2012

Ive had this knife for 3 months now, and it absolutely kicks the living shit out of my ka bar knife i had before it. it flies open and is a very nice blade. I thought at first glance the knife was built cheaply but i was mistaken as it has held up to unsurpassable abuse. Go gerber!

5 A Knife for The Knife Kinda Person Connor - MAY 21, 2012

I've had mine for close to one year now, this is hands down one of the best knives I have ever owned. It does what its made for with no hassle at all. The spring system is super durable, I've seen many times where one bad landing and the spring gets dislodged, rendering it useless (or boring at that). Only recently has it needed to be sharpened a bit because of a few nicks in the serrations. My other knives are simply no match for this one, I absolutely love it. Its a well known knife as well, many people I know have it as well and love it. Buy it now, you wont regret it! I carry mine day in day out as an EDC. It has never let me down.

5 EMT John Costello - MAY 15, 2012

I bought this knife back in 2006 and still have it today. I have used this knife as my everyday pocket knife for 6 years and it still holds up. Working on an ambulance and a commercial fishing boat it has taken some abuse, I've sharpened 3/4 of an inch off this blade and started to look for a new knife. I was very pleased to see that gerber still carries this model. Couldn't be happier with the product.

5 Best knife I've ever owned!!! Bigjay - MAY 14, 2012

Got this last week at my local knife shop and I can honestly and easily say it is the best and coolest looking knife I have ever purchased. I am a little concerned about the springs wearing out and not working any more but nothing Gerber can't fix! :)

Keep up the good work.

Best regards,

Jon.

5 markd561@msn.com mark - MAY 1, 2012

i have always fiercely defended Gerber, i am now a civie and know many personal friends that carry this knife into rescue sits., if ya'll bad mouth this knife prove one that is better! then i will switch.!

5 GERBER EXP Red - MAY 1, 2012

I lost my Gerber Paraframe II the other day and decided to get a replacement. I went to my local knife dealer and went in to get another paraframe, as I was looking, I happened to see the new Gerber Fast Draw. I already knew that the Paraframe was an award winning formula but something just beckoned me to the Fast Draw, and I will say, I'm glad it did.

(I had bought a SOG Trident a few days earlier but it just wasn't cutting it, pardon the pun) I compared the Fast Draw to the Trident in EDC tasks on a regular basis at home and at work. The Fast Draw was the superior knife hands down. (Not to mention the fast draw opens about 5x faster making the Trident look like you are manually opening it)

It has a stronger deployment than the SOG does and is reinforced with metal on the inner linings where SOG is ALL Plastic.

This knife feels great in hand, very comfortable, opens faster than a bullet flies, and feels stronger than most other knives I have carried. Now as most automatic knives require, every now and then you have to tighten the blade because of the hard automatic opening but the Gerber has yet to show any signs of blade play.

As far as the blade is concerned, you just can't beat the Gerber Titanium Nitride Blades. (Again, this knife was even Sharper out of the package than the Trident ever thought about being)

I have always been edgy on carrying assisted opening knives for fear of the spring wearing out of the knife breaking, with the fast draw, I carry and use it, every day without a second thought.

Honestly, I am at a loss for words for describing how amazing this knife is.

All I can say is, go to your local dealer, get one of these, and you won't be disappointed.

Thanks Again Gerber Team for another amazing knife.

5 Your Title Jaime - APR 16, 2012

I've owned three of these so far and they all worked just fine. Maybe they work too well as they all end up missing... Great overall utility/defense knife. Came back to the site to get the part number to get another or see if it had been replaced. With the exception of the new Gerber logo looks like the same trusted blade.

5 Random Ginger :) Colton Richardson - APR 8, 2012

I got the knife yesterday, and my main reason was for protection, seeing as im living in a very bad area, but anywho, its a great knife, and so far i havent had to use it for self defense yet haha, hopefully i wont have to, but ive used it to cut ropes, and various other materials, and its perfect! I love it! Great Job!

5 outdoorsman rex - APR 1, 2012

I got this knife a few days ago. I like it, but for the price I was expecting something a little bigger, but it's a great knife and I love the spring assitted blade. Hope you find my review helpful.

5 Farmhand/ Outdoorsman Griffin - FEB 29, 2012

I have had this knife since 2007 or 8, I believe and I have had two of them. I used the first one on the farm for everything from cutting twine to digging up roots to cutting small branches, rope, and wires. Needless to say, I used my knife. I worked for a summer as a water ski instructor and I had to swim under the boat a couple of times and cut rope out of the prop. I believe because of this the spring mechanism rusted and broke one night in about -2 degree weather. I sent the knife back to get the spring replaced and Gerber sent me a brand new knife. I was excited at first, but the knew metal on the knife they sent me wasn't as high of quality. My first knife's metal was grey and my second one's is kind of black. It's still a great knife and I still don't leave my house without it. It has stood up to many things from cutting carpet, cardboard, rope, meat (after disinfecting), tin, and plenty of other things. After about years of use, I still believe it's a great knife. Now I could just use a knife with a metal body. Rookie mistakes, y'all.

5 A/V Tech. Nathan - FEB 25, 2012

My dad bought me this knife for Christmas in 2008. I made it my EDC knife immediately and used it until mid February of 2012. I used it for your average tasks around the house and office. I tuned the edge on it, probably, 2 times a month. It was always reliable and it saved me numerous trips to my tool box for wire cutters to cut zip ties (pretty normal part of my job) The reason I don't have it anymore...well, I left it in a dressing room. I'm guessing it fell out of my jeans when I was trying another pair on. Hopefully, whoever has it now is treating it well.

5 MIL Rick - FEB 12, 2012

I have had this knife for about 4 years as an EDC knife. Love it, I actually used it once to field dress a dear that was struck by a car right in front of me, worked great and still carry it..

5 SAR/LEO Sam - FEB 8, 2012

This is my second Gerber folder, and my favorite knife. I am an EMT, SAR Tech and LEO, and I carry the Gerber Fast Draw on duty and off. It's a great all-around knife. I think my next one with be a CLS for on-duty carry, but this one will always be around for off-duty.

1 Industrial electro-mechanical tech. Joe - JAN 9, 2012

The fast draw is a pice of trash. I had it for a week and now is no longer working. I dropped it from about a foot off the ground and it completly ruined the firing mechanism. Now I have a pice of trash for $40. I don't know who Butch Vallotton is but he should be embarrassed to have his name on such a P.O.S. I wouldn't recommend a gerber to anyone after this. I should have known when I saw it was made in china. I would have gave 0 stars if I could.

5 First gerber knife STH - DEC 23, 2011
