Adaptability is part of life for the modern day tactical professional. The Cortex Flashlight is built with adaptability in mind. Running on either three (3) Lithium CR123 batteries or two (2) AA batteries, the Cortex can utilize multiple power sources when having options is critical. The Cortex also offers a strobe mode for tactical applications and a low output mode for administrative duties. Proudly built in Portland, OR.
I purchased this flashlight and was very impressed with its performance for the first 6 months I owned it. It was great at first, but then the high beam completely stopped working so all it was good for was the low beam and strobe. This basically rendered the flashlight useless. I looked up gerbers warranty and filed a claim and sent it in. That was a month and a half ago and the only response I have gotten was them notifying me that they received it. Multiple calls and voicemails left to them and still nothing.
I have 10+ gerber knives but I can guarantee that this light will be the last gerber product that I ever purchase.
I bought a similar model Cortex Compact about 1 year ago maybe less. I use it about once a week - when it works. I have sent it back 3 times for repair and each time Gerber has honored the warranty but I bought it because I needed it and sending it back multiple times defeats its purpose. I recently retired and changed jobs, I put the flashlight in a drawer - batteries out - and left it since Nov 2016 untouched. Took it out today, put in batteries and wouldn't you guess? It doesn't work. Going in the trash this time around and another Gerber light will not be bought.
I bought one of these to replace a surefire I lost, have owned it since this model first came out, I love it, it has taken all kinds of abuse and is still running strong. I like the ability to use different kinds of batteries, because I can always find something to put in it. Have used it for hiking and camping and all around the house and yard, as well as taking it with me anywhere I need light. I have bought them for other family members because they loved mine and having good light is always a necessity. I would recommend it to anyone and have many times.
I had a TX 4.0 that had been deployed twice and the tail cap switch stopped working after 4 years. I sent it in and they sent me this flashlight as a replacement. While I still like the design of the tx 4.0 a little better this is a more capable replacement and it's good to know they stand by their warranty.
I've had this light for over a year and I've been very happy with it's performance. Feels much more solid than some of it's competitors. It does eat through CR batteries pretty quickly but I always have AAs sitting around. As a result, this light is already ready for more abuse. I love that, after especially nasty jobs (plumbing or car brakes) I scrub it down with some dish soap and it's ready to go.
Fantastic light. Anodized aluminum, over 600 lumens, and runs on AAs AND 123s. MADE IN THE USA. What else is there to say.
When can I purchase an Omnivore weapons light?
I had been eyeing this light for a while and found it for a pretty good deal. Now that I have used it I would definitely pay full price. The omnivore concept is awesome. I had another flashlight that used cr123 and they can be a pia to find some times. This light has held up great these past few months in the desert and love the fact I can use whatever batteries are available. Awesome product! Now when are the omnivire weaponlights coming out?
I bought this light for my deployment to Afghanistan and I couldn't be happier. This light has out-performed any other flashlight I have ever used. For the price, it is the brightest light you can buy. I have used it to light up our entire tent before. I would recommend this to anyone.
I'm a medic for the Army in Afghanistan right now and this tactical light is, by far, one of the best lights I have ever used. The best that Gerber has to offer. It is extremely durable, well made, very functional, and ridiculously bright! Batteries last for as long as you'd expect with such a high-lumen output. The only changes I'd make would be to redesign the clip and make it more secure, and to make it easier to mount to a weapon system.
