This pint-sized monster is the toughest ounce and half you will put in your pocket. A straight, non-stick stainless steel blade applies even cutting pressure, a smart frame lock keeps the blade secure. The open handle doubles as a money clip for added versatility.
How much does one and half ounces feel like in your hand? Not much at all, really. Almost nothing. Yet when it takes the form of the Ridge, you're carrying a whole lotta knife. And because it's from Gerber Legendary Blades, you can have a reasonable expectation of heavyweight performance.
Notice how the edge of the non-stick stainless steel blade is as straight as can be. That means you'll get absolutely even cutting pressure regardless of which part of the blade you're using. Its a strong little knife. With all the attitude you'd ever want or need.
So go ahead. Clip this pint-sized monster into your pocket. Take it with you wherever you go. Whip it out and open it with one-handed ease whenever there's something that needs to be cut. The Ridge and Mini Ridge will stand tall for you. Every dang time.
I like the look of the knife and the fact that it is so low profile, but the lock feature did not work properly when I purchased it, leading to me getting cut on the first use. The locking bar is too long. I used my rotary tool with the grinder attachment to grind it down very slightly and now it works well, but it should have been this way out of the box, and now I do not have the nice black coating on the knife where I had to grind it down. Seems like a basic Q/C issue that should have been addressed by now based on other reviews.
I love this knife. I bought one for each of the groomsmen in my wedding, and I am going to buy myself another one after I lost my first.
I like that it has no unnecessary parts, which indicates great design. Easy, one-handed opening, and it's cheap enough that I don't worry about it when swimming or climbing with it. I prefer the serrated edge to cut climbing rope and webbing, but it does take more work to sharpen with needle files. You can't just use a sharpening stone.
I being using my second Ridge for more that a year know (I lost my first one in a friend's wedding), for me is the best EDC knife ever. I have the serrated version but if Gerber made the fine edge I will buy it.
I have the version with the straight (not serrated) edge and it's the most useful knife I've ever owned. I've had it for over five years and still use it almost daily.... BUT... I don't care at all for the serrated edge version because you can't sharpen it.
This is, hands-down, my FAVORITE small knife I've ever owned. What I most enjoy about the Ridge's design is the fact that you can secure it clip out on your right pocket. and with a single smooth movement, you can wipe your fingers up to palm it, and a swipe of your thumb opens it. Before your pal can say 'Oh, let me grab my pocket knife,' you've already deftly severed the baker's string keeping you from those paczki. And, mind you, the lock mechanism is bullet-proof. I know you won't be leaning into a 2" blade, but you don't have to be wary of it the day you do dig into something. To be honest, despite it's size, it de-escalated a possibly bad encounter I had, because it is out and unfolded with scarcely a noticeable movement of hands from an at-rest position when clipped into your jean pockets; as opposed to reaching around your back or deep into a pocket, a very telegraphed motion. It seems expensive for a small knife, but is worth every penny, and you'll realize that by the end of the first day you own it.
I love this knife. For the past 6 or 7 years i've had one on my keychain and use it almost daily. I've bought several for myself and even more to give as christmas gifts over the years. The serrated one is good but the fine edge was better. I'd love if they brought it back!
I bought a mini ridge fine edge brand new from Lowe's when I was 19, it stayed clipped in my RSO bag for 6 years. It's now my edc knife. It takes an edge like a straight razor.
Considering buying the serrated one. Absolutely can't leave home without it.
I use it as a money clip - holds a mix of 3-4 cards and a few bills folded once or twice. Eight years of daily use.
I would rather have the fine edge but I will suffer until they bring it back.
I hope Gerber is paying Ed Halligan royalties since this is a copy of his original design. the KISS.
would love to see this blade on an inclosed full size liner like handle
want see the full fine edge come back
This the the best knife I have found if your one of those people (like me) who can not stand things in their front pockets.
Best pocket knife I have ever had. Super easy to carry as well as practical. I use it nearly every day, and Like sunglasses, I can't
leave home without it.
I am on my second Ridge; had the first one (a fine bladed model) for 5+ years until the hinge weakened, allowing the blade to stand a little apart from the frame, catching my hand while clipped to my pocket.
I bought a second one, this one a serrated; I use the Ridge as my keychain pocket clip. I've never used a knife so much as the little Gerber Ridge; always handy, always being used. Fantastic product!
I in fact have had the fine edge version for YEARS and wish they would bring it back..love it!
I have owned a few of these knives over the past 10 years, both serrated and fine edge versions. I have had the same serrated Ridge in my pocket for the past two or three years, and I feel lost without it! I did like the fine edge version, but I feel the serated edge is useful when cutting zip ties. It holds an edge pretty well, I try to touch it up about once a month. I would like to see a left handed version, but I don't expect that any time soon. Maybe a more reasonable request would be a stainless version without the black paint, half of it gets worn off after a year of hard use. Overall this is an excelent knife!
I have owned the fine edge version of this knife for the past 7 years, one of the best mini pocket knives I have ever used! It's strong, light and sharp and still works as well as the day I bought it.
Best pocket knife ever. Have had the same knife in my pocket for 8 years and still my favorite. Im going to buy more just in case Gerber discontinues it.
I've had one for 6 years but older fine blade version. I use it everyday to open metal buckets and cans! Great knife!
I've had one of these for a several years now, and I love it. I would have given it five star if they still offered the fine edge version.
This is easily one of my absolute favourite knives I've ever owned. Incredibly well made and I carry it with me every single day.
It's a great knife, perhaps the best once and a half to have in your pocket. I'd like to see a fixed blade version of this.
Fantastic little blade. Incredible quality in such a tiny package. Easy to open, holds an edge. Clip is handy, but doesn't get in the way. I'm a big fan of the half serrated blade.
Is a bit of a dust magnet, but it's very easy to clean.
Have it on my work keychain. Always there when I don't have my other knife. People take notice. Could imagine my day without it.
I will join in on the request to put some more straight edges out there. I have one that I have worn out with use over 10 years - best little knife I ever owned - always have it in my pocket as a money clip. A wad of bills folds around the handle while in use and makes it easier to hold. It keeps an edge. The Point of the blade is useful for getting out splinters, etc. If I could find the straight edges, I would buy a few to keep as spares. As it is, I'm thinking of finding a shop to work on this one... Don't know that I can pay a $29 knife a better complement than offering to pay $75 to get it reconditioned. I would also like to see them w/o the black paint. Thinking of sand blasting this one...
It's a nice knife. The only bad thing is that the pivot point has too much tension, so it's really difficult to open
It's an excellent knife. The only bad thing is that the serrations sometimes cut my thumb when i open it.
its a really durable knife, the only down side is that the inner lock isnt covered. So it accidently opens sometimes
It's more if a box cutter and a back up know than a workshop knife
My father had this knife for over 10 years but rarely used it he gave it to me recently and it's one of the most fantastic knives ever.
I have also recently lost my ridge straight edge that I have had in my pocket for 5+ years and am trying to find a replacement. Should definitely put the straight edge back on the market but for now, I'll just have to get by with the serrated
I have this without the serrated section .. PERFECT KNIFE ! great size .. I use it for everything !
Had a straight edge for 10 yrs. Its now lost and a fishing trip comming up in June. Help.
Love this little knife but it would be more useful to me if it came in a left handed version.
Glad to see these revised, lost mine and having trouble finding a replacement, best knife ever. The very definition of what a pocket knife should be.
The Ridge black serated/straight edge
knife is one of the handiest little knives I have ever carried. And I have sevral hundred knives, but none fit my hand or are as easy to operate. IT'S MY MONEY CLIP or my pocket knife. The one I have right now is broken. How can I find another?
Great little knife. Have purchased many over the years. I am also having trouble finding more ridge straight edges. They are one heck of a knife and something you people should be very proud of. Don't stop making them.
I have to agree with Justin about the straight edge. I have carried one for years. The reason I'm on this site, is to try and find another one. Please put the straight edge back in stores.
The ridge knife is one of the best knives I have ever carried. Its a shame they do not sell them in walmart anymore. PLEASE DO NOT STOP MAKING THESE RIDGE KNIVES. I stopped carrying Gerber knives when I got a mini paraframe and was dissapointed in its blade quality and performance. Kershaw leeks and scallions are my knife of choice now, if I could find the Gerber Ridge knife (Straight Edge) in stock any where, I would buy several so when I loose one, I will have another to replace it. It is a great knife, please dont stop making these knives.
AWESOME , COMPACT.....MONEY CLIP....OR KEY CHAIN.......USED DAILY
