Propel Downrange AO
A good tactical knife needs to be a problem solver. Gerber drew on the experience of U.S. military personnel and its own expertise crafting technical knives and tools to develop the Propel Downrange AO knife. The result is a tactical folder with assisted opening and a full-size blade that’s as easy to handle and carry as it is durable and capable in the line of duty.
PREMIUM QUALITY BUILT IN PORTLAND, OREGON
There’s no question you’ll be hard on this knife. Gerber built it in Portland, Oregon, using premium S30V steel to offer the most reliable edge possible. The partially serrated blade adds utility when cutting stubborn materials like stout nylon rope or tough plastics, but it’s the premium quality of the steel and durable nature of the G-10 composite handle that set this knife apart from others.
The smooth pivot of Gerber’s Assisted Opening 2.0 mechanism offers seamless, one-handed opening, while the reliable plunge lock and safety switch secure the blade where you want it. Think easy, one-handed operation matched with a slim profile that sits comfortably in your pocket, whether you’re travelling on-base or off. The tanto-style blade’s matte-black oxide coating adds a stealth element where a stainless blade might give you away.
Personal preference dictates how you carry your knife, so Gerber designed the Propel AO with a three-way adjustable clip to customize the knife’s orientation in your pocket or on your belt. You can set it for tip-up or tip-down storage and left-hand or right-hand bias.
DISCREET AND COMFORTABLE
Gerber knows that to earn daily-use status, a folding tactical knife needs to fit your hand and pocket. The Propel’s composite maintains a slim profile that complements the knife’s balanced feel and still provides secure handling in all conditions. Maybe more importantly, you get a full-size tactical knife that carries discreetly and comfortably on the job and off.

S30V is a great blade. sharp out of the box. I had some problems with the belt clip. I was getting out of a vehicle and it snagged the seat. The clip broke off. Gerber was great though and sent me a new clip. G10 grip feels great in your hand you dont want to let it go.
Outstanding every day carry knife. The blade retains an edge and is easy to sharpen. I had to use lock-tite on the pocket clip screws because they would loosen up over time, since I have done that no issues. Great knife for the price and excellent quality. Keep up the good work Gerber.
first off, you'll need to break in the action, by opening and closing the it a lot. Secondly; because of how this knife is made, you can't just open it anyway you want, so you should experiment with how to hold it and make contact with the blade. Thirdly a drop of machinery oil does miracles. Hope this helps you to get your knife to fly open like mine does.
I really like everything about this knife, except that the assisted opening and the redundant locking system are both pretty weak. But otherwise it's really well made.
This is a great knife and the color of the handles here are correct. Some other photos on other sites show them lighter or a lot more darker. Also the blade is a matte black finish, not glossy. Maybe more matte then the photos here show.
CA 17235. As used in this part, "switchblade knife" means a knife
having the appearance of a pocketknife and includes a spring-blade
knife, snap-blade knife, gravity knife, or any other similar type
knife, the blade or blades of which are two or more inches in length
and which can be released automatically by a flick of a button,
pressure on the handle, flip of the wrist or other mechanical device,
or is released by the weight of the blade or by any type of
mechanism whatsoever. "Switchblade knife" does not include a knife
that opens with one hand utilizing thumb pressure applied solely to
the blade of the knife or a thumb stud attached to the blade,
provided that the knife has a detent or other mechanism that provides
resistance that must be overcome in opening the blade, or that
biases the blade back toward its closed position.
Good by my local laws.. so all good.
Nice knife, but don't fool yourself, this not in the same league as the 06 Combat line in Auto or manual, and yes I own all three. Unless you just have to have desert tan then hold out for the best knife in this class from any manufacture.........Gerber 06 Combat Folder in Auto or Manual.
The Propel Downrange AO has a great lock up, and blade. The Pommel is a little weak. I hope the assisted open breaks in a little and maybe this knife will grow on me. It is very light weight.
I got this knife as an early Father's Day gift from my boys. The G10 scales on this knife are excellent and provide a solid griping surface. The blade is also great but I worry that the coating on it will wear off, only time and use will tell. The blades opening action is smooth but lacks the spring strength that my buck assisted opening knife has. If they had a stouter assisted opening blade spring I would buy it and replace the original one so it would give the blade a little more speed/strength when opening. With all that said the knife is nice, has a great feel, and will make a nice daily carry knife for myself.
Great knife but the torsion bar is way to strong to start the push to open, I may de-assist it, other then that its a nice knife.
Great site although for the coming soon items a date would be extremely appreciated.
Brand new , the opening action is very stiff and nearly impossible to open. Purchased it on ebay new. I read reviews on the same knife and many people had the same problem. I hope I can break it in. The Blade is razor sharp, and its a sturdy knife. I really like it. Any ideas from anyone what I can do to loosen up the Action?
One of my best blades it is sturdy and very reliable although the price is a little much.
Good knife but mine opens just a little when the safety is on and when the safety is on it jiggles a little is it suppose to do that
This is the best dadgum knife on the planet
After several months of use, this knife has become my favorite. It just feels awesome in the hand and maintains a cutting edge most excellently. The problems with this knife are: 1st, the AO mechanism is stubborn at times when it is tightened. 2nd, due to the advanced locking/safety mechanism, dirt and grit are a real headache to clean out without taking it apart and voiding the warranty. With careful and diligent maintenance(mostly cleaning and lubricating) this knife will more than earn its keep as your preferred EDC/medium duty knife.
ffreakin awesome..love it
I love this knife. You guys took the tanto blade from the Venture and painted it black and put it between two composite handles. It is so grippy and really sexy looking. i like the lock so it wont open up in your jeans. Thanks gerber!!!
needs to be a drop point.
10 seconds on this page and Gerber have already bought me.
NICE KNIFE GERBER
If I want to buy this product, what should I do ?
Very nice heavy-duty looking knife. Spiked pommel coult act as glass-breaker, and assisted opening technology can make it a good self-defense weapon/tool while not going beyond the law in some states. I can forsee this to be one of Gerber's finer products.
The general appearance of this knife is very nice. By the looks of it, the Downrange Propel looks like one of the more heavy duty AOs. Should be great for camping and other outdoor activities.
