Based on the sleek, simple style of its knife counterparts, this tool is no frills and features easily accessed outboard components. Every component is locking, ensuring a confident grip and safety. Housed in a nylon sheath, this 12 feature tool is always nearby.
Time and again, Gerber manages to push the bar for innovation in the multi-tool category. The Evo is no exception. Based on their knife counterparts, the Evo exudes simple style and features all outboard components, meaning there is no need to open handles to access tools. Each component is locking, making these tools among the safest out there. When you do need the pliers, spring loaded handles reduce user fatigue during extended use.
Great tool. Great value. I had a different brand that rusted after exposure to sea water. This one is very sharp right out of the box and tough enough to survive rigorous duty. The case didn't fit on my duty belt so I've had to use an alternative. From the looks of the reviews, I'm better off without the case. No complaints!
The multi-tool is fantastic. I've had it for about 10 years and it still works great. My only complaint is the poor quality case that is falling apart.
I love the tool... The scissors could be better and the case needs an upgrade... My velcro wore out and the main belt loop strap broke... I need a new case b4 I loose it...
Great tool. great knife. Use it all the time. Still like new. Been in salt water, snow, deserts no sign of wear. Agree with others Velcro case is crap. Had leather one hand made. People see holder and ask about the knife. Have 3 other Gerber knifes
Good tool, but case is sub-par. Mine is all stretched out, velcro not holding. You have to come up with a better case for sure.
Really love this tool. Carried it every day and used it at least 3-5 times a week.
Sadly, the case and the Velcro on the case is so crappy that I lost my tool as it slipped out of the case while attached to my belt. It's now somewhere on the streets of Manhattan.
I would say this a fluke, but as with all my 5 Gerber tools I've owned so far, the case is the weakest link and always rips or fails to close over a very short time.
That being said, the quality of the tool is so good, I will be back to buy (yet another) again.
Went through cheap $25 multitools at 2/yr. This thing's predecessor has lasted me 4 now and still tight as a drum. Saved my hyde last night when I was able to use the flathead as a prybar to get the serpentine belt back on my car. had to pry with all my might but it did not bend, break, or even loosen. amazed at this thing's ability to take a beating. Getting one for every handyman in my fam for XMas.
I've had this tool for several years and have yet to find/use one that was better, for any price. I had a problem with the sheath as have many others. I emailed them about it and they sent me another that was much better made. That was 6 years ago and this one is still going strong. even when worn in a major trailer manufacturing plant daily.
Great tool when in a jam. Case sucks. Velcro lasted 4 months and its not used but maybe 3 times a week if that.
case is not commensurate with quality of tool...i suggest having a leather case made. adding a cork screw would make it perfect.
I use a multi tool literally every day. It is my most used tool by far. I got this Model last year and it has been fantastic! Best one I have ever used. Most break after less than a year and this one is in perfect condition still. The case however... All of the hooks on the velcro are straightened out, and it no longer fastens. I nearly lost my tool a couple times before I relegated it to my pocket space... which is less than desirable, as the tool is heavy. Not to mention the back nylon being shredded. Great tool. Terrible made in China case.
I got my gerber, vise ,multi tool for father's day. My kids saved they're money and went together 2 get it 4 me, and the very first time i used the pliers 1 side broke completely off. I contacted gerber online, and I'm pretty sure that they will make it right. If not they have lost a loyal customer, and I will give them whatever review they deserve.
I am am electrician at the army, and this tool really saves me the effort to carry all them tools. It has 90% of the tools I need for fixing things on the tanks real quick. Only problem is the lock mechanism, I use this tool at desert conditions and those lock springs get stuck after using it for some time. But its okay, after cleaning it with carborator spray it works well.
After researching other multitools I chose the EVO because of the weight and utility. It is a very solid unit with one exception - the scissors! My elderly Swiss Army knife has a vastly superior scissor and a corkscrew, in truth the corkscrew is more useful.
If you were to make a robust scissor or replace it with a nice corkscrew - this would be an exceptional unit
Love the tool, hate the stupid cheap case. I got mine for X-mas from my mom and had it on my belt once when the case ripped off. Barely even touched it on the truck door. Its a shame because it is such a good tool. If they only spent more time in the case....
This is a great tool. All the tools are easy to open and close. The jaws are spring loaded and work well. I had this tool for several months until I lost it due to the cheap elastic belt strap breaking. I normally carried the tool in a Leatherman case that I bought at Cabalas bargan cave. I am going to reorder the EVO again and use the Leatherman case.
I have a Gerber Flick that has been replaced under warrantee at least 4 times. The screwdriver tips are too soft. The jaws jammed after a lot of use. The tool locking mechanism jammed and one replacement tool came broken. The flick I have on my side I use for very light duty work. The EVO works so much better. the Wire cutter actually works on it. It feels great in your hand, and folds up to a small item on your belt. Just don't use the case it comes in.Get a stronger case with a nylon web type belt strap. None of the gerber cases are mush good. Most of the time the velcro flap that locks to the case degrades quickly. I don't like the way Letherman tools unlock to store away. Hence I buy Gerber.
I tour across the country and carry this tool with me all day, every day. The scissors are different than a Swiss Army knife, but they work perfectly fine and I use them literally every day.
Don't know what I'd do without this tool.
First, the scissors design is a little dangerous - the blade pokes out as you set it back into the handle-shaft. Second, when I was using this scissors in normal operation to fix a truck while stranded, the scissors blade did a 180 degree turn and got stuck behind the spring latch, leaving them useless and me stranded for a longer time period. I realize there is a lifetime warranty - but what if I am in a survival situation? I won't be able to redeem that if I die.
I got this tool to keep on me at work, for small jobs, and as an extra tool when camping or hiking. It's very easy to use and carry, the blades are typical Gerber quality, and I like the shape when closed-feels good in my hand. However, the one drawback is the scissors. They have never worked any time i have attempted to use them. Just by really looking at the design, you can tell they just kind of mailed it in on the scissor. Even a simple Swiss Army style would have been just fine. Other than that, great tool for the price.
